File tagging File:Half-Life_2_arcade_neepster.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Half-Life_2_arcade_neepster.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Half-Life_2_arcade_neepster.jpg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

[edit]I needed a photograph of a cassette containing a computer game. I can hold my breath for a long time but probably not as long as it would take to have a photograph of a KIM-1 cassette to be uploaded here.

There are a lot of really great things about working with young people. This is going to be about one of the not-so fun things about working with them. If all a person gets to see is toddlers learning how to walk.... Whee!! You took your first step on two feet! And then the next one, Whee!! You took your first step on two feet! And then the next one, Whee!! You took your first step on two feet! ....
This group is a little older though. Due to the circumstances, the age, the lesson being learned -- it is usually not good to ask directly "have you beaten hunt the wumpus yet?" So there is a surplus of time spent being respectful and not asking if they have beat this one particular game yet and in this "time of respectful not asking" a lot of superiority from the recipient of the respectful not waiting is often exuded which makes it feel like I am saying to toddlers over and over again Whee!! You took your first step on two feet!
That being said, I am quite certain that this computer I use here -- that the design of the box was probably augmented by a gamer. I often cry when I take it apart, it is so perfect with snap together parts and about as perfect of a cooling design as can be made and still be so attractive and even the snap on decorative plate over the bays prevents me from acquiring the cheapest of addons. Do you know, they even included the correct number of screws needed for adding a new cdrom or whatever on the little plastic piece that gets removed when the piece is added? 3 for the cdrom bays, 4 for the floppy bay.
I admit, perfection is overwhelming to me and makes me cry. My computer box is such an instance of perfection.
Anyways, before I go dab my eyes (even writing about the perfection of this box does it to me), thanks for acquiring and uploading that image. I really really needed something like that and am grateful that it was here. -- carol (talk) 10:49, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Max Payne on PC
[edit]I honestly don't understand why you deleted the image. That's not copyright infringment, otherwise, why aren't File:Game & Watch NWS- Donkey Kong JR.jpg, File:Nintendo Game & Watch Donkey Kong JR.jpg, File:Zelda-Game&Watch.jpg, File:Super Mario Bros - Game & Watch NWS.JPG (to name a few) copyright infringment also? They even show a better image of the game than the one I added. Explain yourself. Melancolicsphere (talk) 14:28, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hey, Kungfuman, thanks for your reply! Well, I see what you are saying but the Game & Watch pictures clearly show the games, and the Max Payne picture you can hardly tell the logo is there, it is quite dark and out its normal colour. I never understand what happens in cases like this, because usually it seems like files are excluded purely out of admin's own individual views, leaving other images on Commons that would fall in the same case. File:Mario Kart Arcade GP videocrab.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

I don't understand why you mark my own work as violation licensing. For you information, I am taking this picture by my own with my own camera and doesn't have intention to reproduce any of the comic character. The picture was taken during a Talk Show about launching a republished the famous comic "The Adventures of Tintin" in Indonesia, and I do believe I doesn't break any violation at all. So please reactivating it. Thank U NaidNdeso (talk) 02:12, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Your marking of my Image:Isolde Hallensleben.jpg as "derivative work of a copyrighted image" (which it isn't)...
[edit]Hello Kungfuman!
For your information: The Image:Isolde Hallensleben.jpg is a picture, entirely created by me. I had never heard of the website you were presenting a link to (chakana.nl), but you aroused my curiosity, so I went to take a look there.
As I already expected, it was most definitely them infringing on my copyright, instead of the other way around... Upon my first request they have sent me proof that they removed the picture from their site.
My reason for not using the "original shot" is quite simple: that was a rough image with poor quality, only meant as a starting point for the image I uploaded to Commons. Isolde owned a copy of that pic and without given it much thought she made a copy for Chakana (for which she recently became a goodwill ambassador) to use on their site. She, too, understands now that this should not have happened, and she apologized for letting it slip.
I am an author and graphical artist myself, and as such I have never infringed on any rights of my fellows ever. I am a creator, not a thief, and I take your trying to finger me as one extremely serious. And personal! -- Thor NL (talk) 22:18, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for your swift reaction. I see no need whatsoever to send a usage permission to OTRS for a picture which is entirely my own work. That would be like giving myself permission to use my own picture as my own work. I have never done that; Commons does not require OTRS permissions for uploading your own work, and I will not be the first to do so regardless. Please look at my other uploaded work to see that I have always been very exact in working with licenses. Whenever I uploaded pictures from third parties I DID take care of OTRS permissions as required. This picture, however, does most definitely NOT fall into THAT category. Kind regards, Tom Ordelman. -- Thor NL (talk) 19:00, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

- I did a copyvio on the third 239, which only showed a near screenshot. The others are not clearly copyvios and show arcade cabinets like many others. Especially the one with a player. File:Donkey Kong arcade.png which even you had edited and stayed for years is not more copyvio. There are some more in Category:Musée Mécanique. Perhaps even all images are problematic as it's unclear if it's allowed to photograph other properties in this museum. I did some other copyvio, but will only make deletion proposals for obvious cases. But you might to do it if you want. --Kungfuman (talk) 19:27, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

dein Problem mit meiner Datei
[edit]Hallo Kungfuman,
--Kungfuman (talk) 17:18, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 18:13, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue.
