Discussion at COM:AN#Possible problematic image source
You are invited to join the discussion at COM:AN#Possible problematic image source. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:06, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Explicit. Would you mind taking a look at this? It involves files uploaded from what appears to be a Korean website. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:07, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
- Understand about the other logos. Some of them are actually from Japanese soccer teams, but they too may only need to be relicensed to {{PD-logo}} or something else. What about File:Gimpo Solteo Football Stadium.png? It's also sourced to Namuwiki under a "CC BY-NC-SA 2.0 KR" license. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:34, 10 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly: I only deleted the very obvious complex logos, like the ones with copyrighted characters on them and such. I got quite caught up at work, so I couldn't adequately considered the ones that were left over. I'll get to them.
- The source's description pages describes its use of File:Gimpo Solteo Football Stadium.png as copyrighted and not in the public domain, so it reads like a fair use claim. I have tagged it for lacking permission. ✗plicit 12:14, 10 February 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks again for taking a look at these. My apologies if I it seemed I was pressing you to act asap on these. I'm quite happy to let the normal Commons processes run their course. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:04, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

Please give images better names
Stefan2 (talk) 08:09, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker)@Stefan2: In fairness to Explicit, he didn’t originally upload the file; he just moved it to Commons from Wikipedia a few days ago, mostly likely using the same name the file had been using on Wikipedia. In addition, you actually made an edit to the file back in 2016 while it was still on Wikipedia. Was the file name different back then? If it wasn’t, then perhaps the name has been a problem for a long time. Is there some reason you didn’t request a en:WP:FNC back then when you edit the file? Since you both just basically made non-contentious administrative/cleanup-type edits, it might’ve been just as easy to make a Commons FNC yourself than “warn” Explicit about it. — Marchjuly (talk) 10:26, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
- I've suggested that the file be renamed as "File:Monterrey as seen from Cerro del Obispado (September 2005).jpg" based on the description of the image provided by the original uploader. Feel free to change it to something else if this is unacceptable for some reason. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:02, 18 April 2022 (UTC)

File:EmmaWiggs.jpg
Hi Explicit. File:EmmaWiggs.jpg is almost certainly related to en:User talk:Explicit#EmmaWiggs.jpg, but I can't tell whether it's the same as the file that you deleted, but my guess is that it might be. A Google Image search shows the same photo being used as the subject's Twitter profile pick, but I'm not seeing it released as it's licensed on Commons. My guess is that it's not a selfie and probably not the "own work" of the uploader. The uploader probably means well, but this is most likely a case of COM:LL. I'm not sure how this can't avoid at least being tagged with {{Npd}}, but I'm asking you about it on the chance that you might know of another way to resolve this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:33, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
Sound Logo
Hello,
I am messaging you because a contest for a sound logo for Wikimedia is being developed and your opinion as a Wikimedia Commons admin is appreciated. My team would like to know if it is possible for the top finalist sound logos in the contest to have attribution temporarily hidden from public view until all the votes are final? The idea is to let the public judge the sound logo contestants based on the merit of the logo, not the person or people who made it. Again, any feedback is appreciated.
Thank you,

Requesting review of the Speedy deletion request of File:Pengsoo.png
Recently, there was a speedy deletion request made by User:린눈라단 who says the work I uploaded, File:Pengsoo.png is a copyright violation because there was no permission from the author. However, considering the terms of the creative commons license of the work from the specified link that I linked, it seems I did not violate any copyright since there is no need for a explicit permission since it is by the terms of Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported, and I am confused if I am right about this. So I am requesting your review of this work's licenses. I hope you review on this since I am really not sure.Waltzingmogumogupeach (talk) 17:00, 2 July 2022 (UTC)
- I just found out that the YouTube video, the source of the file, is a CCL license I'm sorry. However, the YouTube video cannot confirm the exact CCL license because the license is simply stated as CCL. --린눈라단 (talk) 22:21, 2 July 2022 (UTC)
I already confirmed to you that it is Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported, as outlined there( you have to click a link to confirm that it is indeed 3.0). If you click the creative commons for youtube, it is that.Waltzingmogumogupeach (talk) 22:30, 2 July 2022 (UTC)

In response to the removal of Squadron Gaming Logo.png
I would like to humbly apologize for any violation I have made uploading the image, I did read the rules and regulations pertaining to Wikimedia Commons prior to uploading so it wasn't a case of negligence. After seeing so much donate to Wikipedia memes I decided to create an account and tried to get my feet wet. Drafting a Wikipedia page for my aspiring gaming group / e-sports team in my personal sandbox after reading the terms and policies pertaining to writing articles about stuff you have direct influence in. Which got taken down under the pretense of 'webhosting', which I assumed is because I shared the link with the members of the gaming group via a WhatsApp group and Discord DM, in hopes of checking spelling errors. Which I was completely fine with just wished I could of copied and pasted it into a word document because I took my time with it and didn't have a back up but such is life. As for the Image I do own the rights as I made it from with open source free for commercial us elements, so there is no copyright infringement on those ends, I even have it legally trademarked in my country of Trinidad and Tobago. But regardless I understand why it has to be deleted under the tense of "non-notable YouTube channel, likely the uploader's own" Which is true as we are nobodies so I agree with the removal and the policy. I just want to know in the case that we actually become notable and someone tries to make an article. Because it was removed originally due to me testing out my sandbox, will it be marked as void and blacklisted via what ever content ID system Wikimedia Commons uses (assuming that there is one). Or can someone in the far future still upload the image and make an article on it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Squadr0nX of SquadronGG (talk • contribs) 18:41, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

Spanish language assistance
Hi Explicit. From you user page, you seem to be a native understanding of Spanish. Would you mind taking a look at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Crimeo III.png? Sockpuppetry related question
Hi Explicit. Since you both a Wikipedia admin and a Commons admin, you might be able to provide some input at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Blocks and protections#Sockpuppetry. While it's true that an account blocked for socking on English Wikipedia doesn't mean it also needs to be blocked on Commons, it seems that user here intends to continue to evade their block on Wikipedia by creating new accounts to add files they upload to Commons to articles. It also seems that based on this edit and this edit that they are going to use their Commons accounts to engage in discussions related to English Wikipedia content. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:21, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

File:Brazil National Football Team (no stars).svg
Hi Explicit. Would you mind taking a look at File:Brazil National Football Team (no stars).svg? It might be argued that it's "PD-logo" under US copyright law, but things seem a bit more complicated per COM:TOO Brazil. FWIW, the same logo (also see en:File:Brazilian Football Confederation logo.svg) has been treated as non-free content on English Wikipedia over the years, including quite a few en:WP:NFCR and en:WP:FFD discussions, and there never seemed to be any consensus that it was even "PD-logo" in the US. If this is really OK for Commons, then the logo with the stars is probably OK as well, and both non-free files can be deleted. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:39, 8 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly: Hi, this logo is a little more difficult to assess since the threshold of originality of Brazil is higher than that of the U.S., but it's not so clearly defined at COM:TOO Brazil. I'm erring to the side of caution and not deleting it outright as {{Logo}}. This may be best resolved at COM:DR. ✗plicit 01:46, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
- Understand. Thanks for taking a look at this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:42, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
- I started a DR for the file. One question about COM:TOO Brazil though. It states that "consequently the threshold of originality is considerably higher than the United States", but I think that's possibly a mistake. A TOO higher than the US would make it less (not more) restrictive, wouldn't it? The lower the threshold, the less amount of creativity you need for a logo to be eligible for copyright protection. So, it seems that it should say "considerably lower" like it does in COM:TOO United Kingdom. If the Brazil's TOO is truly "considerably higher" than the US's TOO, then much more creativity is required for a logo to be eligible for copyright protection. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:04, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
- After thinking this over a bit, the wording in TOO Brazil is probably OK; it's just a bit confusing and seems counterintuitive. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:15, 9 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi. User:Orijentolog, At first, he edited a page of his own accord, and there was no evidence to change the name of that page. I tell him to please stop his destructive activities, but he continues his behavior. Please stop the destructive activity of this user. I am sure this user will message you and repeat his false claim. I asked him more than twenty times not to edit my page and not to leave a message for me. But he continues to work. Hi Explicit. Would you mind taking a look at File:Black Reel TVAwards Logo-stacked.png? It's almost certainly not the uploader's own work unless the uploader is blackreelawards.com, but there's nothing indicating the logo has been released as licensed even if that's the case. Categories for men wearing buttoned shirts
I think we need to clarify whether "buttoned shirts" means shirts that have buttons or shirts whose buttons are fastened. Maybe these should say "shirts with buttons" instead of "buttoned shirts"? -- Auntof6 (talk) 07:21, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Auntof6: A "shirts with buttons" category wouldn't clarify that, would it? Shirts that have buttons or shirts with fastened buttons would still fall into this type of category. Category:Buttoned shirts is complemented by Category:Unbuttoned shirts. ✗plicit 13:55, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification. If "buttoned shirts" means shirts that have their buttons fastened, the categories related to button-down shirts need to be removed from categories for buttoned shirts. Whether a shirt is buttoned (buttons fastened) or unbuttoned (buttons not fastened) is a separate thing from whether it is a button-down shirt. A button-down shirt is a shirt that allows for the collar to be fastened to the shirt via buttons on the collar points. The buttons on those shirts can be either fastened or not fastened. -- Auntof6 (talk) 19:18, 16 July 2023 (UTC)

Requested revision deletion
Hello, I would like to request revision deletion of the original version of File:DE cycle.png because of copyright violation (the bin symbol). I have previously contacted the creator of the file, and the non-free version has been replaced, but it hasn't been revdel-ed. Janhrach (talk) 09:20, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

Hey, I noticed you tagged File:Consensus Flow.png as a derivative work. I just reverted to the non-copyright infringing version (the keyboard icon is a copyvio). Would you mind doing some revision deletion on Commons, and deleting the version on enwiki? Thanks, —MATRIX! {user - talk? - useless contributions} 11:02, 19 November 2023 (UTC)

Hello, you deleted all my files on Wikimedia Commons for no reason with no evidence. I took all of these photos and it makes me very heartbroken to have my work deleted like this without warning or reason Dalvago (talk) 18:59, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

National Assembly Building copyright status
Hello. I tried reading parts of the Korean Wikipedia article w:ko:국회의사당 (대한민국) to determine who were the architects and when it was built. It appears to date to 1976. However, under the section "설계공모 논란", there is a curious but confusing passage claiming that the organizers of the design competition claimed the copyrights of the architects must be revoked to establish "a better national assembly building", and this infuriated several architects to the point that they withdrew from the design competition. A new design was later approved. Your thoughts on this as well as the non-incidental images at this category? Regards, JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 03:36, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
- @JWilz12345: Hi, I started doing a bit of digging since reading this message yesterday and found this newspaper article by Kyunghyang Shinmun and this one by The Hankyoreh, which confirm that the architects' copyright was not recognized by the government. There should be no issues with hosting pictures of the National Assembly Building on Commons. ✗plicit 06:07, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Explicit some PD tag or similar needed? Or just a note on the category page? JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 07:08, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- @JWilz12345: A note on the category page should suffice. I doubt there's a tag that covers this particular situation, so it likely needs to be written out. ✗plicit 01:09, 8 April 2024 (UTC)

File:Jang Jin-young, 2017.png
Hi Explicit. Would you mind taking a look at File:Jang Jin-young, 2017.png? I believe it's the same as the non-free en:File talk:Jang Jin-young, 2017.png you deleted earlier today and that the uploader is also the same. I can't see any CC-by-3.0 license on the YouTube video's description so it appears to have been uploaded under a standard YouTube license. However, the video's description is in Korean and I might just be missing something. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:20, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
- Can you also take a look at File:Shin Su-won, South Korean director, May 2022.png? Same uploader and it also appears to be a reupload of the non-free en:File talk:Shin Su-won, South Korean director, May 2022.png you also deleted earlier today. Once again, this appears to have been released under a standard YouTube license and not a CC license as claimed. My guess is that this uploader probably mistakenly thinks anything uploaded to YouTube is OK for Commons under a {{YouTube}} lIcense. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:25, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
- File:Kwon Eunbi, 2023 KBS Entertainment Awards.png is one more that you deleted as non-free and File:Kwon Eunbi in July 2021.png is an older upload that has the same problem. I left a message about this on the uploader's user talk page, but feel free to add to or correct anything that I posted. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:46, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly: Hi, the first three files you listed were speedy deleted per the author's request. Lonedirewolf appears to understand the problem and has taken steps to remedy the situation.
