Sorry, it's not very convincing. These images looks borrowed from corporate advertisement or at least some clip art is used. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:07, 9 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
They are my own works. I am not famous but a professional designer and editor. ok. I will get an OTRS ticket rather than making an unproven claim. Thank you. -- Calmdownman (talk) 23:54, 9 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, OTRS authorship confirmation is best solution in this case. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:37, 10 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Eugene I am a little bit astonished, because I am a user since a lot of years. It was wikipedia, who gave me information, better to change my user-name from "Neumann-Meding" to Kenichsberch (see perhaps in old pages). And administrators looked for my files and accepted all files in between the history of the university "Albertina" of Königsberg, todays Kaliningrad / Russia. Why did they accept? I am curator of the "Stiftung Königsberg" (for cultural and science-questions) and am authorized, to catalogize lectures and pictures from old journals in between to the former capital of East-Prussia Königsberg and other German cities (before the Second World War) f.e. like Danzig, todays Gdansk-Polen. All originals of the presented pictures come from old newspapers, which are situated in my home (and of course in other archives in Berlin and Göttingen). Therefore I was especially authorized, to upload them. But you are right: The last picture is something new: Prof. Karl Heinz Kämmerling was a very important padagoge for music theory here in Germany. See his page. As schoolboy, I gave lessons in piano even to me. But I was a bad scholar, I think. A little school-book remaind in my hands, in which the teacher Kämmerling wrote down his opinions to the fact musik theory. I think that it is a great honor for him, to upload or show his theories, which he wrote down in this book. I don´t want to be mentioned as scholar. I only want to honor the serious work of the wonderful Musician Prof. Kämmerling. Otherwise, if I made mistakes in between licence questions, cancel the pdf-version. Well, if you have other questions, please contact me. Greetings --Kenichsberch (talk) 17:22, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

To fix problems with that files you need to add missing author information (if that could be determined) and use proper public domain tags if images are in public domain. See Commons:Copyright rules by territory. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:43, 8 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Eugene,

Regarding all the deletions (See Below) I am pretty much in the dark as to how to deal with this. I sent Wiki permissions some info. There are four types of photos in the bunch. The first type are photos took with my trusty Pentax K1000 SLR cameraon 35mm film. I've been shooting photos and slides with that camera since college. Those are the ones on the Dennis Nyback page including the main photo and one of me in front of the band. Both of those were set ups where I handed the camera to my wife to take the shot. The photo in front of the Pike St. Cinema that is on the Jack Stevenson page is a similar shot. I'm in the photo, I set up the shot, and my wife took the shot. The Pike St. was my cinema. It was in business in Seattle 1992-1995.

The 1920 shot of Lew Cook is in the public Domain.

The picture of Jack Stevenson and dust jacket of his book were provided for me by Jack Stevenson. They are publicity shots and meant to be scattered where they may. There is no copyright control. I asked Jack Stevenson for them so I could put them on the page I created. If you want to ask him about it, I can provide you contact info.

The picture of Bob West with Son House was given to me by Bob West. He died. It is not copyrighted. It is a great shot of Bob, who was a friend of mine.

On a completely different subject. I created a page titled Swanee Songs. When I first created it, it was rejected. I then stuck it on my blog. I also made improvements before I stuck it on my blog. I included those improvements on the post and it was accepted. I was then accused of infringing on myself because the page on Wiki and the post were identical. To deal with that I deleted the page on my blog.

Thanks for all you do

Dennis

I think Commons:OTRS will be best way to confirm your authorship for your own photos. See Commons:Copyright rules by territory to find out if works of other authors in public domain or not. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:49, 3 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Eugene, I went to commons today to delete the photo File:Bill Plympton and Matt Groening.jpg . I found that hard to do. Could you delete for me, please? I never did use it on a page and see no use for it. Thanks, Dennis

America The Beautiful.wav Audio Deletion

[edit]

Hello Eugene,

Can you clarify this deletion for me? Your deletion is apparently because of a Derivative Work licensing question. The holidays kept me away from reading and acting upon your deletion notice. But in advance of your explanation, the author of the music (Samuel A. Ward) died in 1903, and there are no lyrics in this audio version played, recorded and uploaded by me. David Douglas Bunker (talk) 20:04, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I restored file. Description still needs to be fixed. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:41, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

File:Sguerso.djvu File:SAV Altare Italy.jpg

[edit]

Sir, while I understand your doubts in regard of Sguerso.djvu.

Please note that the author has deceased and the book is no longer on sell. Its commercial interest is nil while its academic interest is huge, especially for linguists and scholars who may find in it information which is difficult to locate otherwise. The book is hard to find elsewhere and internationally, it is only available in a handful of libraries in Northern Italy. I thought that making it available online would advance science.

Conversely, I realized that the picture you mention exists elsewhere on the internet. It comes from an old unused postcard, I can delete it and replace it if necessary.

Best regards --Badano5 (talk) 07:46, 30 December 2018 (UTC) gb — Preceding unsigned comment added by Badano5 (talk • contribs) 07:46, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It's important to know when author died or when/where anonymous work was created. See Commons:Copyright rules by territory. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:16, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, but now I do not know how to add that information. --Badano5 (talk) 07:49, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You just need to edit file page to change description and/or license tag. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:56, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

All right, go ahead and delete it. I found out that the author has living heirs. --Badano5 (talk) 19:29, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You could try to reach them and ask for permission. See Commons:OTRS and Commons:Email templates. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:28, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Eugene, Re this notice you sent me https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:CarneyCG#File%3ABusiness_plan_The_Center_as_pdf.pdf

What is your issue regarding copyright? This is an original report created by the author who is incarcerated. Hence, I'm not aware there is any copyright issue here, he has granted use to anyone. I am acting as his agent to get it posted for anyone's reference and use.

Please advise. CarneyCG (talk) 16:09, 31 December 2018 (UTC)CarneyCG — Preceding unsigned comment added by CarneyCG (talk • contribs) 16:06, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that you replaced all these files by newer versions, so there is no point to keep old ones. Actually you could override existing file for same purpose. You could use drawing software with SVG export capabilities for such diagrams. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:47, 3 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Datasets.load

[edit]

Hi,

I object to this completely overzealous deletion of files I created.

All of the software in this file is completely open-source (datasets.load, R, even the linux OS!!!), and the video and screenshot were made by me as indicated.

I would appreciate it if the person deleting my file could clarify if he / she intends to delete all screenshots of open-source sofware? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aditisrinivasan (talk • contribs) 09:57, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please read Commons:Screenshots carefully. You must use proper license tags, indicate all sources for derivative works and make sure that all of them confirming to Commons:Licensing. Actually you had week to fix all problems. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:12, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, can you please update me on what's the matter with a dispute? The discussion is about File:Famille du Puy-Montbrun.pdf. On my talkpage two users are debating about an old OTRS ticket (that I am double checking right now), and it seems that you did some verifications on the file here on Commons. Thanks! --Ruthven (msg) 12:00, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, you need to ask help of person who knows French. See Commons:List of administrators by language. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:13, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, the reason I'm writing you is not the French part, but the fact that you were mentioned. Basically the user that wrote me in French, said that you verified this file personally. As I am answering the relative OTRS ticket, I was wondering what does it means (if it has a meaning at all). --Ruthven (msg) 10:16, 9 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I looked into users' talk pages as well as my e-mail, but I was not able to find anything related to this particular file. Files itself seems to be excerpt from book, so I may recommend to handle it via OTRS. But I definitely didn't handle permission myself because I don't have OTRS access. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:52, 9 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It is what I suspected. Thanks! --Ruthven (msg) 09:05, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Vinay and Vaibhav Maloo photographs

[edit]

Hi EugeneZelenko, I received your notice regarding few photographs I have uploaded. These files are my work, some of them, and some of them are given to me directly by the family for use on Wikipedia. I am a freelancer author and it's my hobby to edit pages on this site. I have over 100 edits on Wikipedia and have worked on semi-protected pages as an auto confirmed user. The file HFCL.jpg was taken from the internet and the other pictures are my own. You may delete HFCL.jpg, I don't care. I can provide a letter of consent to use these images from Vinay Maloo or Vaibhav Maloo( who's images these are) if you require and in any case my IP address is on your record I am sure so don't worry. Vinay Maloo is a semi-protected page. Can I satisfy you any further? Waiting for your kind reply. Nuttyprofessor2016 (talk)

Please upload your own photos in full resolution with EXIF to proof your authorship. For other people works, please them to send permission to Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates). Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:34, 8 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Structured Data - file captions coming this week (January 2019)

[edit]

Hi all, following up on last month's announcement...

Multilingual file captions will be released this week, on either Wednesday, 9 November or Thursday, 10 November 2019. Captions are a feature to add short, translatable descriptions to files. Here's some links you might want to look follow before the release, if you haven't already:

  1. Read over the help page for using captions - I wrote the page on mediawiki.org because captions are available for any MediaWiki user, feel free to host/modify a copy of the page here on Commons.
  2. Test out using captions on Beta Commons.
  3. Leave feedback about the test on the captions test talk page, if you have anything you'd like to say prior to release.

Additionally, there will be an IRC office hour on Thursday, 10 January with the Structured Data team to talk about file captions, as well as anything else the community may be interested in. Date/time conversion, as well as a link to join, are on Meta.

Thanks for your time, I look forward to seeing those who can make it to the IRC office hour on Thursday. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:22, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of three images

In particular, the following originals are the property of my family (Bonarelli), have been directly photographed by me and can therefore be used on Wikimedia Commons:

Hi @EugeneZelenko, I'm unaware as to why these files have been nominated for deletion.

Here's why, these following 3 files:

(-File:2018 Access to Information and Protection of Privacy online course Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Hopkins (1).pdf,

-File:2018 Environmental Health and Safety online course Environmental Health and Safety Hopkins.pdf

-File:Student Environmental Health and Safety Awareness at Ryerson University EHS Awareness for Students in an external placement Hopkins.pdf)

are professional certification documents that I received from my university, upon completing required training courses. I now display them online as part of my work (I am Jack Hopkins), so they absolutely are -1. used, -2. clearly of "UNquestionable notability" for myself, and -3. owned by myself-- so there's no copyright issue at all.

For the following files I've uploaded:

-File:Profile light green pictogram.png

-File:White arrow.png,

-File:Clicked find friends.png,

-File:Find Friends pictogram.png,

-File:Integr8logo.png,

-They are pieces of work that I've originally created (by using tools such as Microsoft Paint or Google Slides to create these shapes and taking screenshots of those) on a personal website I'm making, so they are used. In using HTML coding for this, I need an online link to reference for them, and Wikimedia Commons has seemed like the perfect place to do this. Am I mistaken? Also, is the file format required to be in SVG? If so, I'll gladly try to fix this.

Please advise as soon as you can on this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheJhops96 (talk • contribs) 16:23, 9 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, even if diplomas belong to you, it doesn't mean that you are copyrights holder for their design.
Why Commons should host icons for your personal site?
Please read Commons:Project scope carefully.
EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:07, 10 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

RE: the icon images. They are not merely for a personal site. They are part of a website framework that I'm creating myself, for an educational business (focused on exchange and international students). You can type in your URL browser "integr8.global" and my work (so far) should appear-- apparently viewing it in Chrome browser is better quality.

RE: my certificates. Under Canadian law (I'm solely a Canadian citizen who has not been out of the country for any length of time in 18 months --long before any of this material was created), I strongly suspect that academic accreditations fall under the scope of me at the very least being able to show them in the way I have been, if not me being the outright copyright owner of them myself. Check for yourself here in Section 29.4 of the Copyright Act (https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/C-42/page-10.html#h-31). It gives students wide scope in what they can do with work that they either created or earned on their own.

I look forward to this being resolved soon. I hope this content can remain, but if not-- then I look forward to finding another place where I can safely keep such harmless work without fear of it being taken down, simply because I wasn't able to justify its existence fast enough.

It's your own opinion about scope. Other people may disagree with you. See also w:en:Wikipedia:Notability.
Please note that w:en:Scalable Vector Graphics is much better format for trivial logos.
Sorry, but certificates are similar to movies in this respect: you could use them for specific purposes, but not everything what you want. See Commons:Derivative works and Commons:Fair use.

Files Rob Møhlmann

[edit]

Dear Eugene, As a newcomer on Wikipedia I am trying to make a page for the Dutch painter Rob Møhlmann: https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gebruiker:Robert_P._Peters/Kladblok For this I am using a number of pictures by (my friend) Rob Møhlmann, for which he has given me permission to use them / do with them whatever I want. You have nominated the pictures for deletion. I have contacted Rob Møhlmann to let him give permission, using https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Email_templates#E-mail_template_for_release_of_rights_to_a_file But because of the fact that you have nominated the pictures for deletion, I cannot copy the proper url's. Please advise. Best regards, Robert P. Peters (talk) 10:26, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please ask Rob Møhlmann to send permission to Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates). Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:57, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Which is precisely what I have done. Best Regards Robert P. Peters (talk) 17:29, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Please mention this of deletion request page. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:16, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand what you mean by this. Please insert link. By the way: there surely isn't any copyright on "File:Rob Møhlmann Museum Møhlmann Leyden, Lucas van, De Chirurgijn, 1524, gravure, 11,5x7,5cm.jpg" as this work of art is almost 400 years old. Not under Dutch law. Please advise. Best regards, Robert P. Peters (talk) 10:38, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Just mention about sent permission on Commons:Deletion requests/File:Rob Møhlmann Museum Møhlmann Leyden, Lucas van, De Chirurgijn, 1524, gravure, 11,5x7,5cm.jpg.
For historical drawing you need to fix author, date of creation and license tag.
EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:45, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've tried to fix the data for "File:Rob Møhlmann Museum Møhlmann Leyden, Lucas van, De Chirurgijn, 1524, gravure, 11,5x7,5cm.jpg". I don't know if I've done the right thing. BUT I still don't understand your "Please mention this of deletion request page." As I've stated before, I am a newcomer, so it would be nice if you would take this into account. It's all very well to nominate pictures for deletion, but why aren't you more clear about what has to be done about it? I am trying to make a page on Wikipedia with the best intentions, but for that I am being treated as a sort of criminal. Apparently I am not the only one here who feels "misunderstood". So please advise properly. regards Robert P. Peters (talk) 08:33, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
File description and deletion request pages are regular wiki pages and could be edited.
For File:Rob Møhlmann Museum Møhlmann Leyden, Lucas van, De Chirurgijn, 1524, gravure, 11,5x7,5cm.jpg you need to change source and author fields in {{Information}} as well as license tage which should be {{PD-Art}}.
For Rob Møhlmann art deletion request page: just write sentence OTRS permission was sent and sign it.
EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:44, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Dear EugeneZelenko, Robert P. Peters sent this statement and I hope File:Rob Møhlmann Museum Møhlmann Leyden, Lucas van, De Chirurgijn, 1524, gravure, 11,5x7,5cm.jpg is fixed now? Am I right no further action of Peters is needed until OTRS confirms permission (which can take a while, I understand)? Thanks in advance for your answer. Encycloon (talk) 13:58, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If you didn't ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard yet, please do this. I closed Commons:Deletion requests/File:Rob Møhlmann Museum Møhlmann Leyden, Lucas van, De Chirurgijn, 1524, gravure, 11,5x7,5cm.jpg. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:11, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello EugeneZelenko Thank you for your comments. I would also like to have your help I am a beginner on Wiki and I needed these two files for the project of the Wikipedia page of François Croze and I do not know how to do it to respect the rules. File: François Croze 1915.jpg is the photograph taken by me of a painting of more than 100 years that I own (unknown author). How to use it if it can not be on wikipedia commons? File: Nécrologie Annales of the University of Paris.pdf is the reproduction of a document that I own written by Pierre Jacquinot and which does not exist

more in the arches of the University of Paris .How to use it in wikipediaif it can not be on wikipedia commons? it is the obituary of François Croze

Thanks for your help — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jcneboit (talk • contribs) 20:35, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

See Commons:Copyright rules by territory. If author is unknown, work is considered to be anonymous. But you'll need to get an idea about country of origin and about approximate date of creation/publication. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:39, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletions - historical photos for Montville Qld Wikipedia page

[edit]

Eugene Zelenko Please clarify what I need to do to make these photos available either as Commons or just for the Montville page. These are digitised versions of glass negatives that were originally taken by my Great-Grandfather's nephew, Alf Smith. The copyright has been given to the Montville History Group (I am the Co-Ordinator) by Laurie Grimwade who still has the original glass negatives. The photos were digitised as part of a History project when I wrote the book, 'The Smith Family - From Birtsmorton to the Blackall Range' in 2012. It was a request to the Historical Group for some historical photos for the page which prompted the upload of these photos to the Montville page. Best regards Cate Patterson — Preceding unsigned comment added by Catepatterson (talk • contribs) 23:34, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What are Alf Smith dates of life? Images may be in public domain (see Commons:Copyright rules by territory). If not and Alf Smith is not alive, heir(s) could give permission. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:42, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Su respiru iscurtamus.ogg

[edit]

Hi. I see you've posted a warning on my talk page about this file. The heart of the matter is, I don't know whether by "permission" one refers to the file audio being posted on Commons (in that case, I made the recording myself) or the poem in itself (written by a person who, unfortunately, I could not ask for permission to publicly read the piece of poetry, being that he has not been among the living for quite a while).

It shows that I'm relatively new to Wikimedia Commons, since that I may have provided the "wrong" info on the template: by "author" does the template reference who has done the recording (me) or who has written the poem instead (Antonio Mura)? Thank you in advance for reading and providing clarification.--Dk1919 Franking (talk) 15:53, 20 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This file is Commons:Derivative works from poem. What are Antonio Mura dates of life? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:56, 20 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
He was born in 1926 and passed away in 1975, at 49 years of age. No children that I know of, unfortunately.--Dk1919 Franking (talk) 16:42, 20 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If this work was created in Europe, most likely it's still copyrighted, because European copyrights laws stipulates 70 years after death terms of protection. I think orphaned works should be mentioned there too. See Commons:Copyright rules by territory. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:59, 21 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Elektron photos

[edit]

Thank you for your diligence with regard to the Elektron photo uploads.

Please note that these are not historical images whose copyright need be verified. These are images I created specifically for use here. They are free for anyone to use.

--Neopeius (talk) 16:01, 20 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

These images look like old drawings, not photos. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:00, 21 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That's because they're not photos. Nor are they old drawings. They are new drawings I made from photos. This month! :) --Neopeius (talk) 21:44, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This mean that files are Commons:Derivative works. What are source photos? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:05, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for asking. :) The source for Elektron 1 is this painting: https://i.etsystatic.com/9268709/r/il/da7a7f/1331177798/il_570xN.1331177798_3mkw.jpg My source for Elektron 2 is that painting and this photograph: https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A4%D0%B0%D0%B9%D0%BB:Elektron-satellite.png --Neopeius (talk) 23:24, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Second image is clearly marked as copyrighted. Most likely same is true for first one, since ex-USSR countries have 70 years term of copyrights protection. Please read Commons:Derivative works. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:56, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you again. I would and will argue that my works are derivative works, which I made specifically so as not to intrude upon copyright. Neither of the pieces I worked from are technical illustrations, which mine are. Their context and presentation are completely different. --Neopeius (talk) 22:12, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Both images seem to be rotated originals. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:50, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The basis is the rotated original. They are obviously not just rotated originals. Certainly no one would mistake either of them (especially the first) for the original, nor use them in the same contexts (which is the test for derivative works). You might have an argument on Elektron 2, since though my drawing is different, it is being used for similar purpose as the photo I used for reference. But Elektron 1 is based on a painting which would not be used in this context. There's no copyright infringement there. --Neopeius (talk) 15:41, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, there are no significant difference between your files and originals. See Commons:Derivative works. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:43, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That's clearly not the case, particularly with Elektron 1. I guess we'll leave it for the committee to decide. Thank you for raising your concerns and the conversation! :) --Neopeius (talk) 22:04, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Permission of Basque math images

[edit]

I don't understand: if File:Trikimailu.jpg is indeed the own work of the uploader, why would it need another permission than the given one ({{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}})? Similar for several other files. - Jochen Burghardt (talk) 19:14, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think it'll be reasonable to have authorship confirmation in Commons:OTRS. Such own work may be just screenshot or usage of clipart. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:32, 31 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

DR File:Delete.atest-11.delete.jpg

[edit]

Complaint: Why was it not deleted "on sight", now I spend time commenting an obvious delete ? :-) But, to be more serious, how can I tag test file for "delete right away, do not send notices, do not think twice"? If I had the Delete-permission, I would have gone in and deleted after testing. Sorry, I need to do several more test uploads to figure out how to mass-upload with "hidden Categories". So maybe it could be useful to know how to signal "delete-no-questions-asked". --Janwikifoto (talk) 19:56, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

And it would be good to know how to make the file delete silently, without notices on my talk page - I do not want to archive --Janwikifoto (talk) 19:59, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You could use {{Speedydelete}} for such purposes in future. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 20:00, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ah great, will try that as well! Will it by-pass the "Mifter-BOT" that also writes on my talk page? BTW, just delete the picture now, and (if you can) clear the cache of the picture checksums, so I can use the same test upload again. Thanks --Janwikifoto (talk) 20:04, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Uploads by Barry Baron - images - photos

[edit]

Dear EugeneZelenko -

Having gone to your talk page and after reading many of the similar inquiries about, use, source and copyright I might be in agreement that possibly some items may need added information (yet I am a bit baffled – as many others are on the list you sent). Most items are personal correspondence and pertinent or integral in some way in a developing project on Wikipedia. Some image items are from Wikipedia and are used in whole or by example to reference or explain with greater clarity the standing I am trying to explain or clarify in directing to an authoritative source. Some items are a sample of the news article for the convenience of reference since the articles are so old, any research by Wikipedia or others as to source is made simpler. There are professional journal pages (copyright) I have seen with no linkable source elsewhere in Wikipedia (to make my point). Please suggest how I might proceed in helping or adjusting necessary information such as copyright (if) or original source ownership (non-copyright). This good, I already see redundancy.

How will I know on an item for item basis what is the issue and the correction needed? I shouldn't have to guess since any challenge should be clear. It may be that items might not be classified in the proper venue of use. I am guessing it is missing a proper “Copyright Tag”. There seems a lot of options that are similar and often conflict on Copyright Tags... Being new to Wikipedia- it is a hit or miss learning experiance. Your help is welcome. BARRY BARON (talk) 20:52, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Scanning or taking photo of other work doesn't make you and author of original work. So this is why you need to find out copyright status of later. Original should be in public domain or explicitly licensed under term of license compatible with Commons:Licensing. See Commons:Derivative works and Commons:Copyright rules by territory. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:27, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi EugeneZelenko, I received your request for strictly copyright in my file https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Comparison_of_halfrotae_to_a_traditional_engine_with_the_same_displacement.jpg&action=edit I used the scanned image from the 1982 book about the vines. but I even saw this picture, in other books in a library from the 1950s ... Nevertheless, I am sending a scan of this book with full details. My file is used as an educational, showing the size difference of two engines, one traditional and the other my idea. Probably also because of this could be released from copyrights .. But the fact that he was in public space quite a long time, it is also a good premise to preserve this file. Please, say which of these circumstances would be the best to leave this file in use, because I do not have any experience in this direction .. Here are 3 files / scans of this book, which I have at home. http://www.felixconsultings.com/music/leszek/WP_20190209_21_15_57_Pro.jpg http://www.felixconsultings.com/music/leszek/WP_20190209_21_16_43_Pro.jpg http://www.felixconsultings.com/music/leszek/WP_20190209_21_17_21_Pro.jpg Best Regards, Andrzej Feliks AFeliks (talk) 00:02, 10 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please add information about book (source) into file description. If photos were made in Poland, they should be in public domain ({{PD-Polish}}), but you need to check if book contains any credits or was it translated from other language, so other country law should be applied. See also Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Poland. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:20, 10 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I did it after checking. Thank you very much. User:AFeliks

I received a warning about deleting files due to their pdf format:

This was followed by a warning about deleting files due to their pdf format: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:New_4_stroke_engine_pdf.pdf That's why I put this file in this pdf format, because it's about being able to print it easily throughout the first major assumptions of this brand new engine. There are many mathematical formulas and mathematical calculations, which if they were normally presented in the wiki, could be mistaken for the order. Also, the engine phases should be arranged in such a sequence next to each other that they can be easily tracked. .. This is a description of a completely new, previously unknown engine, and will be printed from this file many times, which will be a simplification for the printers. It is a kind of simplification of the diploma theses on the subject of Cracow Uniwersity of Technology in 1979 and 2005 http://www.felixconsultings.com/music/leszek/PD_Andrzej%20Feliks.jpg http://www.new4stroke.com/gadula/motyka~1.htm At 1.1, the author writes that it is about my, Andrzej Feliks' engine ...

That's why I think that this format will be a great help, giving some very basic messages in one place.

in turn when it comes to this file https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hafrotatete_engine_history_pdf.pdf It is also about the possibility of easy printing, and in a similar order, including also with Mathematical formulas. this story. From the psychological point of view, it shows the next mental steps that lead to a completely new discovery. And the order here is of fundamental importance for understanding this thinking process. Therefore, I think that this file should remain in the Pdf format, especially that its internal images are already properly licensed thanks to your help .. Best regards and thanks Andrzej Feliks — Preceding unsigned comment added by AFeliks (talk • contribs) 09:43, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It'll be good idea to use wiki-text in relevant project (Wikipedia, Wikibooks, etc) for such purposes. Mistakes could be easily corrected and content expanded. See w:pl:Pomoc:Tabele, w:pl:Pomoc:Wzory and w:en:Help:Gallery tag for relevant MediaWiki formatting techniques. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:15, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have reviewed your suggested materials .. Maybe I could give something to you, but I do not know how it would be with printing. You would have to experiment for a long time ... The worst thing is that I have had big problems in 3 years, because I got sick, from the fear, Miastemia Gravis. and it is troublesome because I have double vision, which results in great difficulties in writing and reading texts ..https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myasthenia_gravis

These are my texts, from old times ... it's still one, as I was in Detroit at motor show, with lectures about my engine ... then I was healthy. I am sending such a pdf, from the abbreviation of the lecture, at this conference. .

https://www.ukintpress-conferences.com/uploads/SPEXNA14/Day1_10_Andrzej_Feliks.pdf?fbclid=IwAR3-jIF71CKd20KChYToJkSApiewg-6KHbdaphwFewngMchCuF5y-YGnzFI

I still have a lot of work, and I try to use periods when I have something to do .. Well, for example, I would like to do wikipedia like Andrew Feliks and not as User Andrzej Feliks .. and I do not know how to do it. what template to use, and is it enough to copy and paste the text there? I would not like any trouble with her ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Andrew_Feliks
maybe you know how it would be best to do it ... in any case, he's designing for your help so far. Best regards Andrew Feliks — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 5.172.255.181 (talk) 21:09, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Uploads by SASBORG

[edit]

Hi Eugene,

I am trying to upload documents that I could use to edit and correct the page for SASB.ORG. Specifically, the founding of SASB is inaccurate- the founder is not mentioned, the IP is not mentioned, and the date and location are wrong. The documents establish the true founding of SASB which was by Jean Rogers in Oakland, CA and the IP behind SASB which came from research done at the Harvard University Initiative for Responsible investment (as documented in a paper I am trying to upload). Perhaps there needs to be another page with the facts associated with the founding of SASB. I can contact Wiki and ask them to develop another page. I do not understand why all these documents are proposed for deletion as they are factual government documents or documents of which I am the author. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by SASBORG (talk • contribs) 19:14, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Coronel Ulpiano Paez Eulogy at General Morales's Funeral on April 12, 1901 in Quito, Ecuador

[edit]

Dear Eugene Zelenko,

I uploaded the hand-written copy of Coronel Ulpiano Paez's eulogy at General Morales's funeral because in Ecuador the copyright laws specially state that one's copyright expires 70 years after the death of the author. In this case, Coronel Ulpiano Paez who wrote and delivered the eulogy at General Morales's funeral died in what is known in Ecuadorian history as the "Hoguera Barbara" or the "Barbaric Barbecue" that occurred in Quito, Ecuador on January 28, 1912. Coronel Ulpiano Paez was killed by a mob of 20,000 people and dragged through the streets of Quito, Ecuador with the former President Eloy Alfaro, Flavio Alfaro, his nephew, Medardo Alfaro, his brother, Luciano Coral, and Manuel Serrano Renda. All the named person were mutilated while they were alive. Their bodies were incinerated at the park El Ejido in Quito, Ecuador. This where the bloody episode got its name "Hoguera Barbara or Barbaric Barbecue".

According to Ecuadorean copyright law, the copyright protection for the author of the General Morales's eulogy which was Coronel Ulpiano Paez expired on January 28, 1982. Hence, I checked the box that said that I was the owner of the copy of the eulogy that was written for General Morales's funeral by Coronel Ulpiano Paez.

Regards,

Bodvar Antonio Gregersen--Bodvar Antonio Gregersen (talk) 21:44, 2 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Eugene Zelenko,

I realized that Wikipedia is interested in the proper license tag for the document by Coronel Ulpiano Paez that I had uploaded to Wikimedia Commons and used in the General Juan Francisco Morales Llerena Wikipedia article. The license tag that I should have used is as followsː

Public domain

This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 70 years or fewer.

You must also include a United States public domain tag to indicate why this work is in the public domain in the United States.
This file has been identified as being free of known restrictions under copyright law, including all related and neighboring rights.

I hope that the above license clears up any confusion that I may have caused as a new contributor to Wikipedia. I will not commit this error again.

Thank you.

Bodvar Antonio Gregersen--Bodvar Antonio Gregersen (talk) 12:17, 3 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you are correct according to Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Ecuador. Please also fix author field (it's fine to mention that you made photos) and provide link to article about Ulpiano Paez if it exists. If it doesn't, please mention his dates of life. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:23, 3 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Mr. Eugene Zelenko,

I added the date that Coronel Ulpiano Paez died, which was January 28, 1912 in the caption under the image of the Eulogy that was written and delivered at General Morales's funeral on April 12, 1901 in Quito, Ecuador. I checked to make sure that the image had the correct copyright licence, which it did. But I am not sure of where I should enter the author's name as requested. Are you talking about a citation template? Also, I found an April 15, 1901 edition of El Tiempo newspaper that said that Coronel Ulpiano Paez was a speaker at General Morales's funeral and he delivered the eulogy.

Thank you.

Bodvar Antonio Gregersen--Bodvar Antonio Gregersen (talk) 16:20, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

As I am a new Wikipedia User, I want my article of General Morales to be in complete compliance of Wikipedia Rules and Regulations.

I meant license tag in Licensing section and Description and Author fields in Summary section of File:Col.Ulpiano Paez Speech at Gen, Morales's Funeral.pdf. Files pages are regular wiki-pages and could be edited. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:49, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It is a historical file yes, but I recorded it and converted it into an ogv file, for which I am the author of the file. The details of the original file are the following:

Fuente / Source: Youtube, url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wpv4R8qLkMI

Autor / Author: Youtube

Autor archivo ogv / Author of ogv archive: Villalaso

Country of origin / Country of origin: Mexico

Thanks for your attention. I hope you DO NOT vote for the deletion of the file. Please. --Villalaso (talk) 21:52, 2 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, you are not author of original video. See also Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Mexico. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:24, 3 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

But we can do something, you delete the file and I upload it again but with the correct data. What do you think? --Villalaso (talk) 18:27, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

File is not deleted yet. You could fix description, but I don't see a reason why this file in public domain because Mexico has 100 years term of copyrights protection. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:20, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
But I'm saying that the television program was recorded in Mexico, but the file does not. The file comes from Youtube and would have been recorded by anyone. You can review the URL that is in the data above. --Villalaso (talk) 13:28, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't matter. If content created Mexico will be removed, what will remain in file? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:18, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

They could record the file in Cuba, in Panama, in Colombia, in Spain, in the United States, in any country, all with different laws in the public domain! The archive dates back to 1966, 53 years ago, and why? (you must ask), the television program ended in 1969 and is currently still broadcast by 10 countries. THE FILE COMES FROM YOUTUBE. --Villalaso (talk) 17:54, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

photograph of Professor Leonide Goldstein taken in front of his polygraph in the Neuropharmacology Department of the New Jersey Neuropsychiatric Institute (NJNPI) in Princeton NJ. january 1965/

(I am also a former student of Professor Goldstein, 1971-1978. We co-edited a book together in 1977, and I know the polygraph in the photo, and have met the photographer, Dr. Etevenon. I can vouch for the identity of Dr. Goldtein and the polygraph. If there is anything he needs to provide to vouch for the fact that he is the photographer, I can communicate it to him. He is not sure how to proceed to make sure his photo is not deleted. He is the one who posted it, and he gives permission for it to appear with whatever license WP requires.)

I NEED HELP...There is a mass deletion request on my photos.

I created Gholamreza Ghodsi page for a Persian poet from Iran. I aimed to provide detailed information about his work. In order to ensure accuracy I have always kept the page updated with valid references; some were dating back to 30 years ago.

For example, this 1990 newspaper page talks about his travels and his teaching career at university.

Another example is this 1976 photo showing his connection with other poets. A user cropped this photo as a cover image: Here.

Another from 1976 is this photo from one of his commemoration. This photo already has a GNU free license. Why is it on this list?!

Or why this photo used as page photo is in list of deletion?

Please let me know what should I do at this point.

Structured Data - development update, March 2019

[edit]

This text is also posted on the Structured Data hub talk page. You can reply there with questions, comments, or concerns.

A development update for the current work by the Structured Data on Commons team:

After the release of multilingual file captions, work began on getting depicts and other statements ready for release. These were originally scheduled for release in February and into March, however there are currently two major blockers to finishing this work (T215642, T217157). We will know more next week about when depicts and statements can likely be ready for testing and then release; until then I've tentatively updated the release schedule.

Once the depicts feature is ready for testing, it will take place in two stages on TestCommons. The first is checking the very basics; is the design comfortable, how does the simple workflow of adding/editing/removing statements work, and building up help and process pages from there. The second part is a more detailed test of depicts and other statements, checking the edge-case examples of using the features, bugs that did not come up during simple testing, etc. Additionally we'll be looking with the community for bugs in interaction with bots, gadgets, and other scripts once the features are live on Commons. Please let me know if you're interesting in helping test and fix these bugs if they show up upon release, it is really hard to find them in a test environment or, in some cases, bugs won't show up in a testing environment at all.

One new thing is definitely coming within the next few weeks, pending testing: the ability to search for captions. This is done using the inlabel keyword in search strings, and will be the first step in helping users find content that is specifically structured data. I'll post a notice when that feature is live and ready for use.

Thanks, let me know if you have questions about these plans. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:34, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

File:The book-cover of the novel OGLIANIS.jpg - обложка романа "Оглянись".

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Antonioglotano (talk • contribs) 19:38, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Попросите, пожалуйста, Вашу жену послать для File:Step left step right.jpg разрешение в Commons:OTRS (пример: Commons:Email templates). Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard.
EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:14, 15 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

File:Step left step right.jpg - обложка книги "Глотов.В. В.

File:The book-cover of the novel OGLIANIS.jpg

Preceding unsigned comment added by Antonioglotano (talk • contribs) 18:08, 16 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:16, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Antonioglotano (talk) 19:34, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:14, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Antonioglotano (talk) 20:22, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I was checking my talk page and saw a deletion claim from you on two of my uploads. I'm a bit surprised about the reason. Could you be kind of explaining me why I need permission to upload this images? No one will be doing copyright claims because both are mine and I decided to release them on CC license. Thanks Coin76 (talk) 03:31, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Both look like promo photos. You could send authorship confirmation to Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates). Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review and files undeletion. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:21, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've done it, but reading Commons:OTRS#When_contacting_OTRS_is_unnecessary I found on the second statement that, if the work hasn't been published in any other time and if I own the rights of the picture isn't truly necessary to contact Commons:OTRS. The picture isn't promotional, it's only function is to incorporate an profile picture to an already existing wikipedia page. For example, would you say Carlos Baute, profile picture is promotional? Thanks.--Coin76 (talk) 02:25, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think OTRS in this case will definitely could clear all doubts. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:44, 16 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Structured Data - early depicts testing

[edit]

The Structured Data on Commons development team has the very basic version of depicts statements available for early testing on Test-Commons. You can add very basic depicts statements to the file page by going into the new “Structured Data” tab located below the "Open in Media Viewer button." You can use the Latest Files link in the left side nav bar to select existing images, or use the UploadWizard to upload new ones to test with (although those images won’t actually show up on the site). The test site is not a fully functional replica of Commons, so there may be some overall problems in using the site, but you should be able to get a general idea of what using the feature is like.

Early next week I will call for broad, community-wide testing of the feature similar to what we did for Captions, with instructions for testing, known bugs, and a dedicated space to discuss the feature as well as a simple help page for using statements. Until then, you're welcome to post on the SDC talk page with what you might find while testing depicts.

Thanks in advance for trying it out, you'll be hearing more from me next week. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:59, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Historical newspapers on csurla's page

[edit]

Dear EugeneZelenko, I didn't intend to upload the historical newspapers for a wider use, but to prove my point against editor csurla, who removed my editing request on the page of József Szabó.

Despite I, by no question, edited the page to follow the truth, I was left without an answer, unwithdrawn my editing request and now threatened by deletion. I urge you to check my case again and complete the requested changes on Szabó's page - and then you are welcome to delete the historical newspapers.

Thank you, Prost Acer — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prost Acer (talk • contribs) 09:39, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you need newspapers as proof, you could upload them on other place and use external links in discussion.
Please read Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Hungary. These newspapers could not be in public domain even if date of publication counted, not talking about dates of life of individual authors.

--EugeneZelenko (talk)

-- НоуФрост (talk) 13:52, 15 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
-- НоуФрост (talk) 13:59, 15 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm confused as to why I received a notification that this is incorrectly attributed and set for deletion. I've attributed it to self, which is completely accurate, and set the license as I understand it. Would it be possible to send me a more specific note about the problem?Wtfiv (talk) 03:38, 25 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This image seems to be historical illustration or drawing colorized recently. You need to clarify its origins. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 12:45, 25 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I guess I owe you a thank you for the compliment! If you take a look at my talk page (I sent a ping to you on that page), I detail how this image is not an unattribued drawing or colorization. I accurately attributed it as a self-created object. I didn't think I had to detail such things since it is indeed an original work and I had no idea anyone looking at it would think otherwise! (Hence the compliment that you did!) One of the images I used as an inspirational model is Anne Hutchinson on Trial.jpg here on the commons, but if you look at that image, you can see that I am no Edwin Abbey. Thank you also for the reply, and if possible, I would like to request that you remove the template from the image. If there is still a problem, please let me know Wtfiv (talk) 01:25, 26 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Answered on your talk page. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:55, 26 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you [[User:EugeneZelenko, There is no large image: For most of the time, I worked in a 600 x 450 pixeled space, which I eventually cropped down to a 570 x 406, then to 570 x 395 space to heighten the pictorial drama (e.g., slightly clipping the dress, the table, and the figure on the left to heighten the dramatic tension by having the figures slightly out of frame). And yes, I built it in black and white before coloring, so could focus on the difficult drawing. After I created the image, I then determined the coloring based on my own sense of dramatic color theory (e.g., Anglican preacher's dark blue on mid-height left, contrasted by a yellow coming from the upper window that creates a Vermeer-like contrast.

The individual elements are constructed from dozen of composite micropieces that I individually work. Cecily is a good example. The original is made of a over a dozen separate elements, were modified and reworked- often pixel by pixel- until they form a single personal ensemble. I had to create the arms, the heads, the face, and then rework them into a whole. For example, if you look at the history of the images where the final one is posted, you can see my working method in the previous images. After I posted the original, I realized- based on further research- that I got both her collar and later, the sleeves wrong. If you examine the comparison, you will see the sleeves' composites of multiple shaped and proportioned rectangles, which are then textured shaded (pixel by pixel) to match the dress, which itself is based on multiple modified images. However, you will find not find anything like the figure of Cecily on the web (or in any book illustration either).

Similarly, if you look carefully at the back wall on the right, my sloppiness makes my working method obvious to inspection: I created a single panel for the back wall by creating three rectangular objects and texturing (one for a vertical board, one for a horizontal board, and one for a panel). I then duplicated the resultant panel three times texturing it, duplicating it, slightly changing the distortion of each to break up "too easily observed" sense of repetition. I then arranged them into a fixed-horizon vanish point frame I created that vanishes off-screen to the left.

I've posted the actual Hutchinson image that I mentioned previously along with my image on my talk page to show how it served as the inspiration, but to illustrate too how it is not derivative. Thank you again for your consideration. Speedy deletions are reserved for clear cases of copyright violation, but in this case, there no evidence of such a violation, and I don't see how the image meets any of the other 10 criteria for speedy deletion. Maybe there are ongoing concerns about how I work to create images? But, wouldn't this be appropriate for a discussion? I'd like to request again that the speedy deletion template be removed as this does not clearly meet the criteria for speedy deletion. If you still have concerns, then I would like to request moving the deletion process to the appropriate normal deletion space so it can be properly discussed. Again, I appreciate both your timely responses and your working with me on this. Wtfiv (talk) 16:15, 26 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think somebody else need to make decision. I'm not big specialist in drawing, especially with computers usage. I still hold my opinion about problems with image and possible workarounds. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:57, 27 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you EugeneZelenko . What is my next step? Can I have the template changed so it can be discussed? (By the way did you go to my talk page to see the image comparison, which I think makes the case clearly) Or, is there a site I can go to? I went to clpo13 talk page and reached out as that admin had posted a comment, but I'd appreciate your advice on what I should do next to get other opinions.

(By the way did you go to my my talk page to see the image comparison, which I think makes the case clearly. In case it does make the case, I added a note and link in the file description that the design of Ann Hutchinson on Trial inspired my composition design).Wtfiv (talk) 15:46, 27 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think two images comparison in too convincing argument. It's necessary to read some book about that historical period, just to see illustrations. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:43, 28 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I understand that we have not reached a consensus, so I changed the speedy deletion to a regular deletion so it can be discussed. My reading of deletions guidelines suggested this was the appropriate step to take at this point. If it wasn't, and I should continue to work it out with you directly, please let me know. Though I clearly want to defend the status of this image in wikimedia commons, I also don't want to disrespect your concerns and experience either, even if we are not in agreement--Wtfiv (talk) 18:44, 28 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Eugene,

I am planning to update the Ambarella Wiki page. I noticed that the page doesn't include the Ambarella logo. So, I added the Ambarella logos (from their website) to the Common page so that I could use it.

The Ambarella logo can be found https://www.ambarella.com/about/news-events and I listed the link when I upload the images.

Please let me know if I need to provide additional information.

Rgds, Gaja

P.S. I can converted the image to SVG but then I can't list the Ambarella website of the source then. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gaja Satrawada (talk • contribs) 18:17, 26 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You need to just use one of files to keep it. It you'll create SVG version, you could mention that it based on images from official corporate site. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:50, 27 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Eugene,

When I convert the image to SVG, it appears with a white background. I may be doing something wrong. The Ambarella_color_cmyk.png is the only one I want to use. It has a transparent background. We can delete the rest. How do I delete images from the commons?

Rgds, Gaja — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gaja Satrawada (talk • contribs) 17:05, 30 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I looked on SVG and it has transparent background. But please change license to {{PD-textlogo}}.
I nominated PNGs for deletion already, so you just need to mention that you used one on them on deletion request page.
Regular users could only nominate files for deletion with Nominate for deletion link in Tools section. Also there are also special templates for particular deletion reasons like {{Copyvio}}. Actual deletions are performed by administrators.
EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:28, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Eugene, I changed the license on the SVG to the one you suggested. I guess I don't need to do anything about the PNG files as they will get deleted automatically?

Thanks, gaja — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gaja Satrawada (talk • contribs) 18:00, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I probably had put in the incorrect licensing (cc-zero), and instead it should have been changed to this: (self|cc-by-sa-4.0) So, I'm working on getting these updated in the licensing section of each file. Zul32 (talk) 18:01, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

License plate designs were created by states. You need to dig into their copyrights laws and use appropriate license tags. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:44, 17 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand why using this license when I'm the person/author which took the photograph of some listed on this list. I've used the appropriate license (self|cc-by-sa-4.0), as is the same for this plates:

File:1972 Wyoming license plate.jpg File:1973 Prince Edward Island license plate 75-921.jpg File:South Dakota 1974 license plate - Number 1-32334.jpg File:1976 Sample Michigan License Plate.jpg the list goes on and on.. you get the idea

and yet my images are marked for deletion, and these aren't?? Please explain. v/r Zul32 (talk) 19:58, 17 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I've looked around and seen multiple variations of licenses on pictures of license plates which aren't marked for deletion that are for example, this plate:

File:1972 Virginia License Plate.jpg has (self|cc-zero) and this plate: File:1993–2002 series Virginian license plate, with October 2002 sticker.png has (3-D in PD|PD-textlogo) So, would you recommend I used one of those, or something else that perhaps I may have missed? Thanks Zul32 (talk) 20:19, 17 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please read Commons:Derivative works. File:1972 Virginia License Plate.jpg and File:1993–2002 series Virginian license plate, with October 2002 sticker.png have trivial design that fall under {{PD-textlogo}}. I nominated similar uploads by other user for deletion. Sure, more reviews are needed and you could help in this task. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:18, 18 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Uploads by Gaby.alvz (Cipolletazo)

[edit]

Hello EugeneZelenko:

The photos on Cipolletazo that I uploaded were taken more than 30 years ago, in 1969. As regards copyright laws in Argentina, I quote "Photographs are protected for 20 years after creation and 25 years after publication, and cinematographic works for the lifetime of the authors plus 50 additional years (Art. 34)". I don't think they should be deleted.

Warm regards, --Gaby.alvz (talk) 19:46, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

See Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Argentina for proper copyrights tags. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:42, 17 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

California Hill Uniting Church and Sunday School pdf upload i wish to request a non deletion this is a family history document with ties to the church i would like to know which part of the 350 page document you have issue / issues with thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bognol (talk • contribs) 13:01, 22 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Who is author of document(s) composed into PDF? If it's yours it should be moved as wiki-text into relevant project, like Wikibooks. Who are photographers? If photos are in public domain or your own word, they should be uploaded on Commons as separate files. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:05, 22 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The aurthor is mysef the photos are of my own or if they are not they are stated in the document please go thro and read each individual page and you will see each note of if its a self photo of a photo gained from other sources — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 121.219.111.225 (talk) 01:50, 23 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

So text belongs to Wikibooks. Please upload your own and public domain photos separately. See Commons:Copyright rules by territory for later. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:50, 23 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion request for the PSL drafting maps.

[edit]

Hi Eugene, I have noticed that you requested a deletion for my PSL drafting map. I have whatsoever no problem in the deletion but I would like to know what caused the need for the deletion so I don't make this mistake anymore. Thank you. These files were not used and in not best formats. See mw:Extension:Graph/Demo and w:en:Scalable Vector Graphics for better ones. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:47, 23 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi EugeneZelenko, you opened a deletion request for this scan of a chronicle created more than four centuries ago. As this apparently happened in error, I've opened an undeletion request for it. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 08:19, 26 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This has already been restored by the closing admin. In the meantime I have opened an undeletion request for the other two files from the same DR. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 08:53, 26 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Have now been restored as well. --AFBorchert (talk) 09:13, 26 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Notification about possible deletion

[edit]

Hello Eugene, I received your notice regarding a few photographs I uploaded that were marked for possible deletion.

Affected: • File:Riad with parents.jpg

And also: • File:Riad Khashoggi3 1988.jpg

• File:Riad Khashoggi North Africa 1988.jpg

I am fairly new to Wikipedia and I want to respect all the rules…so I appreciate your guidance. The owner/author of these photographs gave me permission to use and upload for the Wikipedia page I am creating for her. I have contacted the author of the photographs and asked to send permission to Commons:OTRS. If there is more I need to do, please let me know. Thank you.Pchipster (talk) 01:15, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you follow right procedure! You could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:17, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Eugene, Can I still submit my article for review when the photos are marked for possible deletion? Or would you suggest I remove the photos for now until they are reviewed and approved so that I can get the article published. Thank you for your help.--Pchipster (talk) 00:49, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You could create article without photos and add them later. Did you ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard? Alternatively you could try to find volunteer who speaks language used in permission. If not, please at least mention on deletion request that OTRS permission was sent. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:45, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Digital Coast

[edit]

Hello Eugene,

I am mystified by your note that my Digital Coast submission to Wikimedia was "of questionable notability." NOAA's Digital Coast is used by countless agencies and nonprofit organizations in the U.S. coastal zone to tackle problems we see in the newspaper every single day. These Digital Coast users get access to data, tools, trainings, and other information--at no cost--that they then use to help lessen local flooding and sea level rise exposure, improve tsunami evacuation plans, revitalize their local coastal economic sectors, tackle water quality problems affecting tourism and fisheries, and other purposes. What else can I do to convince you that this topic is high-profile enough to feature in Wikipedia? Please let me know

If Digital Coast is notable, text belongs to Wikipedia, not Commons. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:30, 1 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Files uploaded by Mada59

[edit]

Hello, i am very surprised by your flag. Those are my own works, most of my images are found in other web sites after i upload them in wikipedia, you can check the date of images in other websites. Resolution are obviously low to avoid to upload heavy images in wikipedia. Mada59 (talk) 00:09, 3 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You could upload photo in original resolution with EXIF to proof your authorship. See Commons:Derivative works to understand problem with trophy photo. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:39, 3 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand, i took them with this resolution to upload them in wikipedia Mada59 (talk) 01:04, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I meant original photos from camera without any further modifications. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:28, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

La Ilustracion Militarː Publication Mensual Por Alejandro Andrade Coello, Volume 2...

[edit]

Dear EugeneZelenko,

The answer to your question that asked who is Sr. Alejandro Andrade Coello? Alejandro Andrade Coello was a writer and educator who was born in Quito, Ecuador as described in the online website, Enciclopedia del Ecuador. The article about Alejandro Andrade Coello states that Sr. Coello was born in 1875 and Sr. Coello died in 1943. By my calculation, Sr. Coello lived to be 68 years of age. Therefore, when one adds 70 years to the year that Mr. Coello in which he died (1943), then one gets the year 2013 which is the year that the copyright protection under Ecuadorian law ended.

One can see the Enciclopedia del Ecuador about Sr. Alejandro Andrade Coello as followsː

Structured Data - testing qualifiers for depicts

[edit]

As you might have seen, testing is underway for adding qualifiers to depicts statements. If you have not left feedback already, the Structured Data on Commons development team is very interested in hearing about your experience using qualifiers on the file page and in the UploadWizard. To get started you can visit Test-Commons and chose a random file to test out, or upload your own file to try out the UploadWizard. Questions, comments, and concerns can be left on the Structured data talk page and the team will address them as best as they can. Thank you for your time. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 19:08, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
