Djibouti FOP
[edit]I had filed this DR assuming that Djibouti, had no FOP. But I see that the uploader changed Djibouti's FOP laws here...before I filed the DR. Is the uploader's edit correct--or should it be reverted? The picture in the photo I took is not incidental as it is the focus of the photographer's camera. Djibouti's FOP statement now seems a bit unclear--as what is incidental?
Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 04:34, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
Sleeping Giant - Quinnipiac Trail Tower Photo
[edit]Definitely my photo. Let me know what I need to do to tag it with appropriate Commons license, etc. I can no longer find the photo on Wikimedia -- I know it was referenced from some Wikipedia articles.

My sassy girl pictures
[edit]Hi Denniss, I put these pictures because when I surch on the web, I found with Creative commons license, so I believe that I can put on the web. I put the picture about Jun Ji-Hyun because she is the main actres; I do that for a work of my university, later I will delate it.
- No, because unfortunately a lot of pictures have been pirated on the web and "released" under a false license by someone claiming to be the copyright owner, when in fact they most likely stole the copyright from someone else without asking permission. Around here it is often called license laundering. TeleComNasSprVen (talk) 09:32, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Denniss! --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 00:13, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
--Denniss (talk) 07:22, 11 April 2014 (UTC)

File:BriarcliffManorCompilation.png
[edit]Hello Denniss,
You added a tag labeling one of my images as unsourced, but in fact I clearly labeled the source of File:BriarcliffManorCompilation.png as "own work" and the author as User:Ɱ. Whatever evidence you need that I personally photographed all of these locations and put them into this compilation on GIMP, I can provide.
Thank you. --ɱ (talk) 10:27, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
- Nowhere on the page is a statement that this compilation is based on your own images, we have many "own work" compilation using images taken from everywhere that have to be sourced or deleted. Please add this statement and remove the no source template. Even better would be the addition of links to the source images. --Denniss (talk) 10:51, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
- Well I haven't put the original images anywhere on the Web yet, the only exception being File:AllSaintsBriarcliff.jpg. I'll add the statement. Thanks for clearing this up. --ɱ (talk) 10:59, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
Deletion query
[edit]I see that three photos on my watchlist, all with "Centre of New Zealand" in the file name, have been deleted. I suspect that I uploaded these, given that they were on my watchlist. What was the concern with those photos? If I was indeed the uploader, should I be notified if there are concerns? Schwede66 21:19, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- AFAIR these were incomplete uploads, just the filepage but no image. --Denniss (talk) 21:20, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, I remember the upload bot not performing the other day. Given that it records the link to the photo, it would be easy enough to upload those photos manually. Would you mind restoring the three files? Schwede66 22:54, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- Just to let you know that the files showed up on my watchlist (thanks!) and I have dealt with them. Schwede66 18:48, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

Muchas gracias y Saludos!
Answer at your 58 remarks
[edit]Guten Tag
Thanks for all the 58 remarks about the media I put on Commons wiki. Concerning the source of the media I have intermingled where I found the media and the one whom made the picture. I have changed that information for all the media you have indicated. I hope it's OK for a max of them. I have changed all of them excepted:
- N° 1 Technical shaft. It was a shaft from a skyscraper in Dubai, but I think photos from tower in Dubai are not accepted. It can be cancelled; but I think it’s already done.
- N° 2 Tour al Hamra à Kowet. I think it’s already cancelled. I am going to prepare another one.
- N° 3 Hotel Marina Bay à Singapour. I think it’s already cancelled. Another one was prepared on Commons to be accepted N° 19.
- N° 4 Vieux gazomètre à Zwickau. I think it’s already cancelled. Another one was prepared on Commons to be accepted N° 57.
- N° 5 La tour Khalifa à Dubaï. Dito Tecnical shaft. Already cancelled.
- N° 6 Tuyau en bois calorifugé. Already cancelled. The remarks from the man in charge at that time said the photo was not clear. I did à new scan and that new photo is on Commons to be accepted N° 28.
- N° 7 La tour de l’hôtel Burj el Arab in Dubaï. Dito Tecnical shaft. Already cancelled.
- N° 8 to 20 Sources have been changed.
- N° 21 Pipe from the National Museum in Berlin. I gave on the source the references given by the museum. I don’t what to do else. “If you like, the credit line is: (c) Ägyptisches Museum und Papyrussammlung, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin - PK, ÄM 23716” Klaus Finneiser. Please tell me.
- N° 22 to 27 Sources have been changed.
- N° 28 and 29 Tuyau en bois calorifugés d’Alaska and Maison des compagnons d’Anger. These two photos are « my own work”, I think it’s a mistake from the computer.
- N° 29 to 41 Sources have been changed.
- N° 42 I think the photo was cancelled. I cannot found it on Commons.
- N° 43 to 45 Sources have been changed.
- N° 46 La tour de l’Honneur de Lesparre. I think the photo was cancelled. I cannot found it on commons. But I went on that city and took a photo which is on Commons “on my own”.
- N° 47 to 58 Sources have been changed.
If you are following the draft “brouillon” of my article about “Le Plombier et son Histoire “ or “The plumber and is History”, you can see that the text is finished. As soon as the photos I am introducing in the text will be accepted on commons Wikimedia, I will be able to put the article on Wikipedia (I don’t know yet how, but I’ll find!). Sorry for my English, which is not very good, but I am a French plumber! Best regards. Le plombier du désert.
Remarks on my media

Lizenzheader
[edit]Hallo! ;-) Also Geduld (und keine Sorge), die Korrekturen kommen.--XRay talk 14:09, 9 May 2014 (UTC)
Removal of separators between multiple deletion requests
[edit]I notice you removed the separators between separate deletion requests for a particular user that were on the same page.
The second one took place later and was decided separately. I don't understand what benefit this change makes- it makes the two different requests harder to differentiate- but perhaps you could explain? Thank you. Ubcule (talk) 16:05, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
- I reverted the edits to the deletion nomination and closures because every single discussion says to make no changes to the discussion. I quote from the header visible to any user at the top of the page: This deletion debate is now closed. Please do not make any edits to this archive. You can read the deletion policy... I see absolutely no reason to change a deletion discussion in spite of bold red text saying not to and hence the reversion. I would additionally suggest that changing deletion discussions for any reason ever again is highly unrecommended as the policy instructions at the top of each closed DR states. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:18, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
- Additional; had not realised when I made that first comment that Denniss was an administrator, and therefore more likely to have known what he was doing. I'd still probably have asked anyway, though! :-) Ubcule (talk) 18:20, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
- With these intersections the Delreq handler does not work, that's why I removed them to correctly close the DR on the affected pages. And this did not affect the DR discussion as the statements of the closing admins were kept intact and the discussion closed.--Denniss (talk) 20:18, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
- I disagree that it doesn't affect the discussion, as it makes the separation between two different (albeit related) requests harder to follow. However, I understand your reasoning if the change was necessary to close the DR. Hopefully some kind person will fix the delreq handler so that this isn't required.
- As mentioned, I had not originally noticed that you were an admin and wrongly assumed you were an ordinary user, possibly "helpfully" tidying things up! That's why I'd asked Ellin Beltz to contribute, since she's an admin- with more assumed experience and authority on this sort of matter. OTOH, if I'd noticed you were an admin too, I'd have assumed there was probably a good reason for the change... which there was, of course!
- All the best, Ubcule (talk) 13:35, 11 May 2014 (UTC)

Why were my files deleted?
[edit]Hello! Just want to know why my files were removed? Did I do something wrong? I happened to attend the the Film Festival in Krakow where Cumberbatch was at last May 10. I took the photos myself with my camera. Here are my tickets: http://instagram.com/p/n3H6oTKPQo/ Alextheweirdo (talk) 09:28, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
Dear Admin Denniss,
Would you be willing to mark this image and pass or fail it? I am not sure if it dates to the 1980s or to 2005 or who took the picture but flickr account owner says in the 9 more comments section of the source that he finally added this photo to his collection. His other images on his account seem to be ARR. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 21:42, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
- Secondly would you be willing to pass this image below since it survived a DR (mentioned in its talkpage)
- File:Moscow House in Minsk.jpg
It has remained in picasa human review limbo.
Kind Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 03:06, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- Comment: Thanks for marking the flickr image. Perhaps you know what to do with the picasa image I mentioned. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:08, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- I can't review it if it's not available anymore. I don't know if the given link was ever valid as it doesn't look like a standard image link (at least not for me). --Denniss (talk) 11:05, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- OK. Thank you, --Leoboudv (talk) 18:08, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
Dear Denniss,
I assume that most of these cover images are free for Commons use and not copyrighted images. If not, someone should consider filing a mass DR to images with no COM:OTRS tickets. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:31, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you for tagging some covert art images. I launched a DR on one. PS: Would you know how to mark this image as I cannot tell if it is a US Federal government work:
- File:Missouri Reserve Military Force Oath.jpg
Kind Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:35, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for your review here. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 04:38, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
- Is there any copyright packaging issues with this image? Its not a standard design. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 05:40, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
- Maybe, maybe not. I don't see an urgent need for a DR. --Denniss (talk) 12:14, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
- OK. I passed the image in this case. Kind Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 21:16, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

Image for Jan Johnstone
[edit]I notice that you've deleted images "Jan Johnstone" because you found them on the web. If you'd bothered to follow procedure and notify my that you intended to delete the images, I would have explained to you that I emailed the person in question and, in order to obtain appropriately licensed images for Wikimedia use, asked them to publish one of the photos on Flickr. They responded by being kind enough to post all of the images from their website on Flickr with the required CC BY-SA license (as indicated in the attribution on the uploaded image). If absolutely necessary, I could even forward the email (sent from the email address listed on their website) where they advised me of that Flickr address where they published the photos. Why wouldn't you put a message on my talk page, asking about it, before running all over Wikipedia/commons/my user page and deleting images? Who R you? (talk) 15:47, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

Deleting my first contribution
[edit]Hi, I don't understand why you deleted my first contribution to the Wikimedia Commons. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Warning_Radiation_v001.png
The image was my creation it does not breach copyright and I released it to the Public Domain. Why did you delete it? It had no content that could be considered offensive.
Rupert. PS I was just about to upload a series of another image that I had spent 2 days creating but now I don't think I will bother. Not a good way to encourage new users.
Hi Rupert I am more also coinciding with your issues as well. I had posted also into wikipedia many Radio and information and they deleted it. Is the first time I do Radio in 22 years as a Queen Fan and I have to be angry about I would use my own methods of creations and other sites as well. They push that way to do so and I am a local student which is now not recommending wikipedia. Such as really awkward reports. As well.
Andrés Ardito. if you delete the page I would go on legally issues and there are many ppl angry with these issues.
About File:Ouidah banner.jpg
[edit]You send me a message because of a problem with source informations about File:Ouidah banner.jpg . I don't see the problem with this file. You have the name of the source file in wikimédia commons (maybe you needed a link ? I just make one) and authors of the file are written. What's wrong with this file ? It's not clear for me …
Also, if you know an equivalent to DerivateFX that doesn't work anymore to upload derivative work faster, it would be helpful for me and for wikimédia commons, it's a pain to copy information from the source to the derivative work, and it's not also a very nice presentation.
Thank you for your answer. Inkey (talk) 14:58, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
File:Coccinelles MHR championnes 2014.jpg.
Cordialement. --34 super héros (talk) 17:24, 31 May 2014 (UTC)

Copyright violation accusation by Denniss
[edit]You accused me here of copyright violation for uploading a what is in fact a PD work. As was fully documented on the file page, and properly tagged. I uploaded an image from the cover of a newspaper, which as noted in the description, is from http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=UHZIAAAAIBAJ&sjid=o4IMAAAAIBAJ&pg=1024,6134586 , where anyone can see it was published w/o notice, I uploaded it to commons, using the same filename as a deleted image that is also a derivative of the same famous photograph but from a copyright law perspective, it's quite a different image indeed. The copyright status of the image I uploaded is PD because it was published w/o a copyright notice, and I've provided rock solid proof that it was published w/o a copyright notice. Your reference to Commons:Licensing is severely lacking in specificity. --Elvey (talk) 08:12, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
- This copyright claim is irrelevant if the basic image was never free or had it's copyright restored. Uploading an image again that was deleted in a DR borders vandalism. --Denniss (talk) 15:07, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
- Asserting I uploaded an image again that was deleted in a DR borders on lying. I uploaded a different image, and you know it. --Elvey (talk) 07:42, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
Not a URAA case?
[edit]Hi Denniss... I hope you are well. You speedy kept Commons:Deletion_requests/File:1935_Reid_Pictorial_Map_of_Edinburgh_and_Leith,_Scotland_-_Geographicus_-_Edinburgh-reid-1935.jpg citing URAA policy... However, I don't understand why you consider it a URAA case? URAA "restored copyrights in the U.S. on foreign works if that work was still copyrighted in the foreign source country on the URAA date." This is not the case, as far as I can tell, for that file. That file never had lost its US copyright, and was never PD in the US. According to the Hirtle Chart, this seems to fit the line in the section "Works First Published Outside the U.S.", "Solely published abroad, without compliance with US formalities or republication in the US, and not in the public domain in its home country as of URAA date[3]" , for which the copyright term is "95 years after publication date". Could you please explain the fault in my reasoning? Cheers, Storkk (talk) 15:52, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
- The question has basically been answered as best as it probably will be given the WMF's position, but I would still appreciate your thoughts if you would be so kind as to give them. Cheers, Storkk (talk) 20:55, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- It seems plausible the image is still copyrighted in the US, and not via the URAA. I'll reopen the deletion discussion assuming that Denniss doesn't object. Kaldari (talk) 03:12, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
Donetsk and Lugansk
[edit]Why do you counteract to add Donetsk and Lugansk republics to this map ? --Nicolay Sidorov (talk) 04:51, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
- No recognition of these self-proclaimed "republics" by anyone, they are still Ukraine. No need to present facts that are none. --Denniss (talk) 07:19, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
- First, on this map both partially recognized and unrecognized states are designated (Somaliland, for example). Secondly, South Ossetia recognized independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics. Thus recognition of these republics is equivalent to recognition of Transnistria or Nagorno-Karabakh. And thirdly, these republics aren't Ukraine any more and will never become Ukraine. It is possible to try under different pretexts not to notice their existence and not to add them on maps, but it won't change the fact of independence of these republics of Ukraine at all.--Nicolay Sidorov (talk) 07:29, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
User: David Condrey
[edit]Okay - this is an odd one, but I think User:David Condrey is POSSIBLY legit - especially after finding his page on Pixabay which includes the original upload of File:Red-mx.JPG. But some of the other uploads - those stock photos(!!) - have really cast a lot of doubt on their credibility/legitimacy. Mabalu (talk) 13:33, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Bitte stell mein Bild wieder her und kläre mich auf
[edit]Hallo Denniss! Ja! Stell bitte das gelöschte Bild wieder her.

Danke! Gruß! --LGB-ler (talk) 18:23, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

Inappropriate deletion
[edit]Please revert your oddly uninformative and inappropriate deletion of File:Nsa-ant-typhon-hx.jpg. There is no duplicate in Category:NSA_ANT or on commons at all, AFAICT. You provided no indication as to what it supposedly duplicated. You should have. As Ppelleti has noted, it would be nice if the "Exact or scaled-down duplicate" message would include the name of the existing file which it was believed to be an exact or scaled-down duplicate of. Or maybe even replace the duplicate file with a redirect to the original file, rather than completely deleting it. Sometimes the "Exact or scaled-down duplicate" message does include the name of the other file; I would like to know why it didn't in the case of your deletions. Especially in the case of documents that the NSA would rather not have us host. Deletion already overridden. --Elvey (talk) 08:05, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
Ukraine location maps
[edit]I noticed you have reverted my edit on the Ukraine location maps. The main Ukraine location map should be the one that shows Crimea as a disputed region, a counter map with Crimea shown as an integral part of Ukraine was already made. Showing Crimea as an integral part of Ukraine on the main map is POV pushing. --Leftcry (talk) 15:54, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for replacing {{Delete}} by {{Trademark}} on lots of CC icons on my watchlist. ;-) –Be..anyone (talk) 08:17, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
- But deleting File talk:CC-BY icon.svg based on inappropriate use of file talk pages is not covered by COM:SPEEDY, presumably because revert/blank or user blocks should be good enough. If somebody creates the talk page again for {{Editprotected}} it could be messy, e.g., good faith suggestion to do X, with an unavailable history of reasons why X was rejected. –Be..anyone (talk) 22:12, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Santa Claus makes an anonymous donation to Wikipedia's fundraising drive.jpg
[edit]Thank you for closing Commons:Deletion requests/File:Santa Claus makes an anonymous donation to Wikipedia's fundraising drive.jpg. It is quite obvious that the travelling peanut gallery was simply using it as an avenue to attack myself, and would continue to do so if left open. The ed17 took it upon himself to revert your closure, which I have undone with a note for him to contact you instead of re-opening. I'm not taking any other action here other than to revert The ed17 and to bring this to your attention. Thanks, russavia (talk) 00:18, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
- I have a lot of respect for you, Denniss, but your close was a clear supervote. I could care less about the image itself. Ed [talk] [en:majestic titan] 01:32, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
- There's no need for further discussion, the image is not problemematic and is in scope. Keeping the discussion open is just attracting some trolls or the usual Russavia haters from en wiki. If you want to discuss this further I suggest you copy this discussion to the DR's talkpage. --Denniss (talk) 01:50, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
De Minimis
[edit]Hello, why do you delete all my DR ? It's because you don't want 100 DR so it's easy to remove ?
I'm an adult who know who I do and who know the rules of Commons. I'm not a child. My choice have the same level than your choice. I'm OK on 10% I was so strict on logo but 90 % are good requests, so don't remove.
COM:DM OK for that
-
X is the team logo. (example of COM:DM)
-
You understand adidas but it's small part (I don't do DR for that because I'm not stupid)
-
Omega is small and OK I did mistake with a DR
but where is the COM:DM here when you read this : Very unlikely. Copyrighted work X is a key part of the subject (eg it is the reason for taking the photo). Removing it would make the derivative work radically different, but potentially still useful. Or this : Definitely not. Copyrighted work X is the central part of the subject (eg it is the reason for taking the photo). Removing it would make the derivative work useless.
- 1st : Copyrighted logo is central. If it's a red & yellow shirt, the user never take a picture. He takes a picture because it's a RC Lens jersey with the logo.
- 2nd : Face is central but logos are bigger than face. Maybe the DM here is the 3 faces but certainly not logos (3% are face, 97% are brand, logo & advertising). How can you explain me brand, logo & advertising are minors ?
- 3rd : Cyclist is central. If there is not cyclist, the user never take a picture. And cyclist is a living COM:ADVERT for fdj.fr. (fdj.fr pay him to be an advertising people) How can you explain me fdj.fr is minor on this picture when you compare with the adidas example (2nd picture, black people)?
10% of my DR are mistakes OK but 90% are with 1st, 2nd or 3rd reasons if you take the time to really understand it. Thanks and sorry for my english. --Guiggz (talk) 16:05, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
Other example, I don't do DR for this 1st because the central things are supporters & board with logos is minor, I understood it. But why remove DR on 2nd picture ? Board is central & there are 4 copyrighted logos.
Thanks --Guiggz (talk) 16:21, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi! This account was blocked (by myself) on enwiki for username concerns, and the user has requested a rename+unblock, which at first seemed like a totally doable thing. However I notice you have blocked the account name on Commons for sockpuppetry, but haven't been able to find any contributions or note or summary of what the alleged sockpuppetry is; I am an SPI clerk on enwiki and if there is indeed socking here, it is not at all unlikely that there is some on enwiki also, and that would certainly make me reevaluate any potential unblock. Please ping me on enwiki when you reply (or reply on my enwiki talkpage directly), or drop me an e-mail. I know Commons and enwiki folks don't always see eye-to-eye but I'm just concerned about abuse prevention, not interwiki politics. :) Thanks in advance! Salvidrim! 05:20, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

Drei Messina-Dateien
- File:Fritz Erler (geb. 15. Dezember 1868 in Frankenstein (Schlesien), gest. 11. Dezember 1940 in München), Bildnis Frau Chillingworth.jpg
- File:Paul Ludwig Troost (* 17. August 1878 in Elberfeld; † 21. Januar 1934 in München), Umriss Haus Rudolf Chillingworth in Nürnberg.jpg
- File:Paul Ludwig Troost (* 17. August 1878 in Elberfeld; † 21. Januar 1934 in München), Grundriss Haus Rudolf Chillingworth in Nürnberg.jpg
Du hast diese mit der Begründung "Missing essential information such as license, permission or source" gelöscht.

Was meinst du?
Gestumblindi (talk) 19:41, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Why delete File:IRN OF1-3Michman 1909-1917.jpg?
[edit]It is impossible to figure out why this file was deleted. No motivation other than the general "copyright violation" was given. Why is it more of a copyright violation then any of the other Russian imperial naval rank insignia still retained?
- Was it not freely licenced?
- Was it not in the public domain?
Creuzbourg (talk) 10:11, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
- Was uploaded by a serial copyright violator, most of his uploads are not his own works but scanned or taken from elsewhere. --Denniss (talk) 12:42, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
- Why didn't you motivate it? The community must be given a chance to evalutate if a removal is done based on fact or out of a whim, or of bad faith. Now, it looks like the removal is done out of caprice. "Most of his work"; what about this work? A specific motivation is required, I believe. Creuzbourg (talk) 14:48, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

Imagen del mapa de Venezuela
[edit]Hola. Gracias --Jyajure (talk) 17:22, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
- Territorial claims do not belong to locator maps, you may create an alternative version named as Venezuela location map with claims but do not force other wikis to use this alternative version. --Denniss (talk) 17:46, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
Venezuela (orthographic projection).svg
--Jyajure (talk) 17:08, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
AMU Map
[edit]Denniss, there is a valid reason why I nominated the AMU map file for deletion, and I gave it in the description. If you disagree with the nomination, we can discuss it on the page, but please don't delete it with reasoning such as "nonsense" - this really doesn't help the issue. Help asked
[edit]Hello Denniss, a legitimate user, Zotteteen1, asked us on nl-wiki to block an impersonating account, Zotteteen, who does unwanted edits and replaces legitimate images. You can find the request here. He told us that this account had been blocked as a sockpuppet on commons and I saw that you block him for socking. Can you please give me a link to the sock master and other socks so I can investigate matters with us and take appropriate action as an admin there. As far as I could ascertain looking at en-wiki also the accounts Germany2014 and Rizky Iconia and Spiraaal should also belong. Thank you in advance. Kind regards, MoiraMoira (talk) 07:50, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
- Futbase is the suspected sockmaster although there may be others involved in this football kit revert war. Futbase is known to use impersonator names for new socks. Overwriting images
[edit]Hello Denniss. I saw that you reverted my cropping of this photo, even though "minor cropping" is listed as a minor improvement over here. I then tried uploading a new file here; however, I seem to have done something wrong as the bot could not find the original source. Was the cropping of Burton's photo not "minor" enough (all I did was cut out his legs a bit to lower the height of the photo)? Is there another way I should crop the photo to lower the height? "Speedy Kept" closure with no explanation or notice given
[edit]You closed this nomination as "speedy kept" with no explanation.
The nomination was made in good faith, as I felt it was a cutesy trick shot that wasn't usefully in scope. You're obviously entitled to disagree with that, and I'm happy to engage in constructive discussion. However, that was not what happened here.
"Speedy kept" (i.e. bypassing the usual process) implies that there was a problem with the nomination, but you did not bother to state any reason, let alone notify the nominator (i.e. myself).
Whether or not you felt there was a legitimate reason for the rejection, the problem is that you did not even bother to mention this reason.
Ubcule (talk) 09:31, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
- Given the words you chose when opening it it was not opened in good faith. Images is useful anyway as a trick shot so speedy kept. You could have seen yourself it's in scope. --09:35, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
- At least now you have given the explanation which should (at the very least) have been provided in the first place.
- If you had a problem with the words I used (or any aspects of my conduct) you should have notified me personally, or at least given this as the reason for the rejection.
- The nomination was made in good faith. I have no wish to get into the issues surrounding Russavia (as I became aware that there is some politicking surrounding him and his banning) except to say that I only recognised the name because I'd come across previous Flickr transfers of his that were blatantly out of scope (and deleted for that reason after nomination) and IMHO carelessly bulk-uploaded. I agree that this case isn't as clear-cut as transferring a Flickr user's selfie, but IMHO it was still out of scope for the reason I stated above. We shouldn't keep every arty or trick image, IMHO. You're entitled to disagree with that, but it's a legitimate opinion.
- Perhaps the comment was unhelpful and should not have been included, but if you had a problem with it, it should still have been made explicit.
- Both your cursory dismissal of my stated good-faith rationale (without discussion) and the fact you felt it was unnecessary to provide an explanation for the original rejection come across as both very high-handed and contrary to AGF policy. Ubcule (talk) 10:10, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

Belgian NFT kit body images
[edit]Greetings! I was wondering why you reverted my edits to the current Belgian home and away shirts? I made these changes mostly based on the docs on Wikipedia which clearly state that manufacturer logos should not be included. The little logo that I removed on both shirts is the Adidas logo (see the real shirts). (I also improved the colors on the home shirt a bit.) Could you please explain why you believe the Adidas logo should be on the shirt, contrary to that documentation? And if so, should I add the Belgian crest as well? Sygmoral (talk) 14:20, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
- These docs at Wikipedia are not really relevant here. We usually keep the logo'd version and have another without logo. Replacing/overwriting either way shall not happen. --Denniss (talk) 17:46, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

multiple image deletion
[edit]Hi Denniss, This is the second of my images that have been removed today, I am the photographer of both File:Johnny_Strange.jpg and File:Johnny Strange, Guinness World Record, heaviest weight pulled by pierced ears 2014.jpg
Neither of these images are copyrighted, and I give permission for anybody to use these images. Both of these images have been used on various websites such as Facebook, twitter, tumblr, Google+ and Johnny Strange's official website, etc and I would be greatly appreciative if they would be undeleted so they can be added to wikipedia too.
I appreciate that images that are found at several places on the internet are probably not copyright free, but in this instance the images in question both are. What information would you like off me that would convince you that I took both of these pictures? (I have many more similar photos I took at the same time as both of these that I could upload, however these two are by for the best of the series)

Karl Eberhard Schongarth
[edit]Dear Denniss, This is an undeletion request for File:EberhardSchongarth.jpg , that you deleted: 18:27, 10 June 2015. The file is depicting Karl Eberhard Schongarth as a SS-Oberscharfuhrer, which means the photograph was taken between 30 Jan. 1941 and 1943. (See the German Wikipedia). As the photographer is unknown, and the photograph is >70 years old, this means the photograph would fall under the license Anonymous-EU. Thank you in advance, Vysotsky (talk) 22:07, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
- No. I don't buy this anonymous claim which is an too easy way to work around uncertain copyright status of old images. --Denniss (talk) 22:28, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
- But could you give arguments, and not just a decision? My arguments are not just claims. (1) I looked at all websites where the file is used (like this one, and 6 others), and could not find any photographer's name or original heritage organization anywhere. (2) And I clearly stated why I am certain of the date, between 1941 and 1943 (Schongarth as Oberscharfuhrer). I think these arguments are not "too easy", but founded on searches, reasoning and logical thinking. Vysotsky (talk) 23:42, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
- For these kind of photographs I also always check the image database of NIOD, the Dutch War Institute. This database contained two images of K.E. Schöngarth: an older one (Schöngarth dressed as a civilian), the other one -dated "Summer 1944", (image number 36646)- depicts Schöngarth in the uniform of a Brigadeführer (thus: after 30 Jan. 1943) sitting in a garden. This adds to the argument that the undeletion request is for a photograph that is taken before Jan. 1943, definitely between 30 Jan. 1941 and 30 Jan. 1943. As Schöngarth is posing for the photographer in the photograph (now deleted from Commons), the photographer is most likely an army photographer, in German military service. Most of these photographers are unknown. Copyright rested with the German State, and to everything before 1 January 1945 (if: author unknown) the license Anonymous-EU applies at this moment. As to his rank: according to the badges the photograph was indeed taken during his time as Oberführer (Jan.1941-Jan.1943). I hope this suffices as an undeletion request. Vysotsky (talk) 09:36, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

Sock of user you indefinitely blocked
[edit]Hi Denniss, about a year ago you blocked User:WhyHellWhy for "POV-pushing with pro-russian agenda, purpose-created account for edit-warring". Shortly thereafter, and following a similar block on en.wiki, User:KronosLine began making identical edits pushing the same agenda and edit warring. Look at the history of File:BlankMap-World-v2.png for example. WhyHellWhy had been edit warring with you to depict Crimea as Russian, and following WhyHellWhy's block, KronosLine resumed this edit war. Similar behaviour can be observed on File:Foreign Currency uses and pegs, Ruble included.png for example, and on en.wiki: [8] vs [9].
KronosLine was subsequently abandoned by the user in favour of User:Leftcry, who has been engaging in very similar behaviour, edit warring to retain past edits made by WhyHellWhy (ie File:BlankMap-World-v4-colored.png, File:Death rate world map.PNG, File:BlankMap-World-v4.png, File:DaylightSaving-World-Subdivisions.png, File:Christians distribution.png, File:RussianLanguageMap.png). When asked about the situation, Leftcry admitted to being KronosLine, but denies being WhyHellWhy, but given the evidence above I find that very hard to believe. It seems clear to me that this is a case of socking to evade WhyHellWhy's block. TDL (talk) 17:10, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- Any thoughts on this Denniss? Are you not convinced by the evidence? I can provide plenty more diffs/behavioural evidence connecting the two if you require it. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that these are the same person.
- Or is there some place better on commons to request a SPI (ie COM:AN)? TDL (talk) 11:52, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
Please review files if you have the time
[edit]Hello Denniss, I have a favor to ask, I recently uploded a number of pictures of the w:en:Cares Trail at w:en:Picos de Europa National Park that do have the propper license some (CC BY-SA 2.0) and some (CC BY 2.0) all from flickr and from 2 authors. The bot user:FlickreviewR is apparently malfunctioning (according to the user page) and was not able to find the source of the pictures. The link points to the album in which they are included instead of the individual pictures. If you have the time and want to take care of it I would appreciate it. They are all named Ruta del Cares followed by a number from 1 to 36. Regards. --Crystallizedcarbon (talk) 17:49, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Question about restoring overwritten image
[edit]Hi. I see that you recently restored an overwritten image at File:Notable indians.jpg. You didn't include an edit summary, so can I ask why you restored the overwritten version? My understanding is that, as explained in Commons:Overwriting files, overwriting images with different versions is not allowed, as it causes problems when the image is used elsewhere (on other Wikipedia projects and external sites). If my understanding is incorrect, I would certainly appreciate being corrected. Also, as you restored the modified overwritten version of the image at File:Notable indians.jpg, the descriptions no longer match the content of the image itself, but can't be changed by non-admins as the page is now edit-protected. Anyway, I await your response. Thanks. --DAJF (talk) 12:53, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry to bother you again, but I should also add that the license for the File:Hon. Gurbax Malhi.jpg image is incorrectly described as "Public Domain" in the File:Notable indians.jpg montage, when actually it is "CC BY 3.0". As the image page is edit-protected, maybe you can correct this. --DAJF (talk) 12:57, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
Undoing actions by User:WMFOffice
[edit]Hi Denniss,
I was made aware that you disabled (locally) a global block that User:WMFOffice placed earlier today. While i'm sure you did so in good faith I want to make clear that undoing any action by that account (which are all considered Office/Official actions ) is not allowed. As its used page states: "Queries about actions made with this account should be directed to ca@wikimedia.org." we can not always explain why we did an action but we will always respond to legitimate questions. In this case the user in question is banned from editing or participating on the projects in any way. Obviously I left the request he made intact so that it could be addressed by the commons community if they felt it legitimate but the topic of the specific request (or any other edits made from that IP ) do not change the fact that he is banned from editing. Like you he also has the option of emailing us if there is another issue that needs addressing.
Undoing an Office action is a serious thing and can result in a lock or other action on the account of the person who did it (even without warning). You're a long term user and deserved this warning, but I trust that you will not do it again. Jalexander--WMF 20:06, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
- Stop threaten people who are working for no cent that you get every month your money! You all in Frisco should start to think about what you are doing here! Marcus Cyron (talk) 18:06, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- "Like you he also has the option of emailing us" gives the impression that if Russavia emails you with a question, then you will give an answer. My understanding is that basic questions about Russivia's office block (like why, on what evidence and how to appeal) have to date remained unanswered. --Fæ (talk) 20:12, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
- I value licensing issues higher than the BS WMF made with this block/ban/whatever so If I see a requirement to enable him to post something to resolve the issue I will unblock such an IP again. Anyway this unblock was meant to be temporary. I am not required to be a WMF slave following the Master's orders, I'm here to work for Commons and support its integrity/validity of licenses and help resolve issue with them.--Denniss (talk) 20:41, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
- +1 I think both arguments can be reasonable, depends very much on the detailled case. All 3 sides could perhaps try and work on a solution to enable one safe way of communication in case one of these really needs some xtra-care. --Trofobi (talk) 07:50, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- +PS: @Jalexander-WMF and LilaTretikov (WMF): It makes me sad to see that the way treating contributors is still on the same level of escalating aggressions like Erik Möller treated DaB. Some years ago I have made a really astonishingly good experience that we have people in our community who are able and willing to help de-escalate and find solutions (see en:WP:DR). Lila, you once promised finding and establishing better ways of communication; I would be happy to find that this is on it's way? --Trofobi (talk) 23:58, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

- I hope I am not the only one here that thinks that if Russavia contacted them with a problem that they would summarily ignore it. AGF and all that aside there is absolutely zero chance that this problem would have even come to light if he had emailed it to the WMF. I have never once in all my ten years of editing seen the WMF leave a message to the community saying X was brought to our attention in private, please discuss and address if appropriate. So +1 to what Denniss said. Reguyla (talk) 19:41, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- Without trying to stir up yet more past Russavia drama... such things have been an issue in the past. Russavia was not the person who originally noted that copyright problem, but it was ignored for years. It is worth noting that the copyrighted material WAS eventually revdeleted in June of 2014, but not until over a month after wikilegal was notified, and not until Russavia ended up taking the drastic step of contacting the copyright holder directly. (That he did so was in fact later cited by a number of editors as a reason to ban him from enwiki)
- This was a case where the 'but we can get away with it' game was played on multiple levels. The English Wikipedia has huge, massive, known copyright problems, and they are systematically ignored. While that is not directly 'our' problem here, we can't fall into the same trap of systematically ignoring licensing issues, and I don't personally think we can trust that the WMF is going to always take the right position with respect to the interests of this project... the digital 'safe harbor' makes it easy for them to ignore an issue unless it's formally reported by the copyright owner, and there are too many behind the scenes political games.
- Our 'obligation to reusers' to ensure that content is legally reusable is talked about a lot, but this is just one case (of many) where that obligation was willfully ignored for far too long, including (apparently) by WMF legal. I find it highly disturbing that JAlexander is acting as if he was doing us a favor by allowing a major licensing issue to be brought to our attention. Revent (talk) 08:46, 20 June 2015 (UTC)

@Jalexander-WMF: I would consider that engaging in the lobbying against the newest EU freedom of panorama plans a much more important thing than playing office action games on Russavia. At the moment millions of pictures at commons and therefor, counting all language versions, the illustration of many hundreds of thousands of wikipedia articles is at risk, to a broad extent the quality of Wikipedia is a risk and all you do is caring about wether a global locked user does some IP edits or not? Unbelievable. --Matthiasb (talk) 20:50, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

- Jalexander, be bold and block as many admins as required to stop this nonsense and to protect the interest of ordinary users here. If some admins here have no interest to defend ordinary users from severe harassing through IRC, WM Projects and all related venues, they are not essential part of this community here. I already provided some evidence to explain how toxic that user is. Jalexander, if you still prefer to stay mellow, Commons will end up a heaven for these type of craps. Jee 03:27, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
(Tangental statement for clarification, this is not a discussion with Jkadavoor) As Russavia is not here to respond to claims of "harassment" by Jkadavoor, I feel it ethical to highlight the last comment as a claim about (old) events not on this project and have never been presented correctly as a claim of harassment to anyone with authority to do anything about it. The above allegation that seems to claim that Russavia is engaging with harassment of "ordinary users" (I think we can read that as Jkadavoor, nobody else has made a claim) on "IRC, WM Projects and all related venues" which is not true. Should Jkadavoor continue to fuel drama by lighting fires on multiple noticeboards with these false claims (as we have seen in the last 24 hours), then I feel it would be right to consult with Russavia on what action to take to ensure Wikimedia applies natural justice, rather than bureaucracy for the sake of it. Jkadavoor's allegations are both pointless drama, considering that Russavia is already Office locked so no further action can be taken against Russavia, and using this project to falsely defame someone who is unable to bring a case and present the facts themselves using Commons project procedures. In addition please refer to this action where Jkadavoor has been warned about his use of IRC texts on Commons, a practice expressly forbidden in the IRC channels in question and where he is free to approach local sysops with reports of harassment; to my knowledge a procedure that Jkadavoor has repeatedly refused to follow, preferring to repeatedly create a hostile environment on Commons instead.

Hi Denniss,
I have taken the time to fix this report today (it needed adapting to the API change). I am not convinced that many admins have used it, perhaps it is not exciting enough? If you do find it useful, in the longer term you may have some thoughts on improving it which I would welcome. For the moment I'm not planning on moving it to Labs, though that is not a practical disadvantage, especially as I have yet to work out how to keep API keys private on a public platform. Deletion of Baruch Shemtov at WNYW
[edit]Hi Denniss! I'm wondering why you deleted the photo of "Baruch Shemtov at WNYW on June 20, 2014." I took the photo and uploaded the raw image to Wikimedia Commons. Is there a reason? Or you're just suspicious of the photo because it has been used elsewhere?
Thanks for your concern!

[edit]Hi, why was this deleted? Two images from Wikipedia were in the public domain, and the rest were sourced from Commons. Where was the copyright violation?--F2416 (talk) 21:35, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
Why did you revert the image https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_Bean_and_McCormick_Tribune_Plaza.jpg to a wrongly cropped version?
[edit]The page is elaborating reflecting surface in Cg programming, and is using the high polished mirror-face sculpture Cloud Gate as a real life example of this attribute. Why did you make to photo wrongly cropped to field of view that only presents the irrelevant skating arena ,without the Cloud Gate aside?
- The gate is not covered by FoP thus it's a derivative work. --Denniss (talk) 07:27, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Just a note: it would have been better if you’d left a note on my talk page, so I could have just updated the thing, wouldn’t it? (The point being, I get an email notification when you edit my talk page, but not if you revert some edit of mine). Kind regards • • hugarheimur 22:17, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

Sockpuppet
[edit]I'm not sure whether you were handling it before I reported it to you or not, as it seems my PC's time was out of sync. But whatever the case, thank you for handling this so swiftly. Tom-L (talk) 20:37, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
- User:CondeDeBuenosAires might be another one as well, though looking at his work, he might just be uploading work by other people, including Rolando. File:Escudo de Armas de Cornejo.png from Heraldica Blog is a clear copyright violation (http://sairafblog.com/copyrights/). So are File:Escudo de Armas de Uriburu.gif and File:Centro de Estudios Genealógicos de San Luis.png, as far as I can understand the Spanish. Tom-L (talk) 21:01, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
- Another probable sockpuppet of Rolando I forgot to report: User:Joseph Luis Lopez. All of his work, except "CoA of Aberdeen", is related to his persistent families, and he has inserted these on Wikipedia himself. Tom-L (talk) 23:40, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

- No. --Denniss (talk) 06:55, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
I am asking that you revert the file to my last previous version of 20:29, February 26, 2015. Omar-toons keeps fighting against the smaller star, but we have a construction sheet and until Omar-toons provides a differing construction sheet and not just their opinion that the star is too small, the revision should not have taken place. Tropenmuseum license template must be updated to reflect the museum's merger
[edit]Hi Denniss! You have reverted several of my good faith edits on the KIT-license template today. I am in the progress of preparing a new upload by the (former) Tropenmuseum and have been specifically requested and instructed by the museum staff to change the template to reflect the museum's new situation (it has merged with two other museums, and the newly merged museum has a new name). Since you reverted my edits that intended to reflect this new situation, I would like to hear your suggestions on how to approach this in a different way. The text at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:KIT-license/en is correct on the new situation, but I am only proficient enough in English, Dutch and French to make sure the texts are correct there. It's not correct to keep the old texts in the other languages of the template. I'd appreciate your suggestions! Thank you, Spinster (talk) 19:50, 17 August 2015 (UTC) (former Wikipedian in Residence - this upload is a follow-up to my WiR project Expedition Wikipedia)
- Also, the old Tropenmuseum logo must not be used anymore. The newly merged museum has a new logo; unfortunately its designers don't approve it being released under a free license. The museum currently does not want to use any logo at all on Commons. Spinster (talk) 19:54, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
- I went ahead and updated the German text to reflect the current situation. De728631 (talk) 20:47, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you! The Malayam text was also translated... nice. Spinster (talk) 07:40, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

My talk page
[edit]Hi Denniss, this is Scott (Russavia). Mate I see that my user talk page has now been semi-protected because of some trolling. Semi-protecting it is going to prevent notification of an DRs by IP editors, which could very well lead to files being deleted, and also means that the deletion policy itself isn't being followed as the uploader is not being notified. Could you please fully unprotect the talk page so that this can occur. Trolling can be dealt with as appropriate by reverting, and revdel/oversight if need be. Semi-protecting is giving the gutless troll what they want -- the opportunity to disrupt. 60.228.45.147 18:52, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
- Done. Protection was useless anyway judging from the recent Troll attacks on multiple pages - they just attack other user pages. They must be really sad/dumb people (or just one idiot). --Denniss (talk) 07:20, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
- Yep, thanks for that. Now any IP noms will be able to be seen, and those who are following my talk page will be able to deal with them as they see fit. By the way, do you have any background on why the Russavia account is now indefinitely blocked after a wheel war with Yann? I've tried looking for info but can't see anything anywhere where the block has been discussed, or even endorsed. Cheers, 124.178.51.111 05:46, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
Denniss, I noticed you kept File:Eirepas.JPG, but left the file without a license tag. I presume your rationale for keeping was something like {{PD-ineligible}} or {{PD-old-70}}, but I couldn't fix it myself, since you didn't include your rationale for keeping the file at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Eirepas.JPG. Would you mind adding a license tag? —RP88 (talk) 22:03, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
- reverted to last good version with a valid license tag. --Denniss (talk) 22:09, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Russavia DRs
[edit]Hi, Why do you allow this banned user to edit here? I don't mind if you create the DR yourself. Regards, Yann (talk) 14:02, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
Hey Denniss, it's Scott here mate. Could you please keep an eye on Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Northeast_airlines_uk_logo.svg. I have no problem if another admin believe's it's COM:TOO, but I don't believe it would be under UK law and ask that any admin who closes it, if kept, deletes it and uploads in their own name. As far as I was aware it was deleted years ago after Stefan4 DR nomination, and only realised it hadn't after I used it as an example on IRC as a logo which was deleted because of UK TOO. Cheers if you could look at it. 120.145.9.53 18:07, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
- Just a heads up to Special:Contributions/Josve05a. Yann has threatened him, and then blocked him, all because he took the independent course of action in re-instating the DRs. This is pathetic. 120.145.9.53 18:22, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
