Link
[edit]Hello, You can use en:name of the article (link in the left column) or :en:name of the article (inline). Regards, Yann (talk) 14:51, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
- You link in the same way as if the image is local. You can't link to an image on Commons if an image with the same name already exists in a local Wikipedia. Yann (talk) 14:58, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi ! I'm using a long exposure method. My camera was on a support and the rolling stock was moving, that's give this type of image. I nominate the picture for the quality label. You can support the image by reviewing it. Thank you for your appreciation. greenski (talk) 10:41, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:58, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Brigade Road War Memorial
[edit]Hi Srikanth,
Is it possible to get images of each face inscribed in the Brigade Road War Memorial? What's written there is of great historical interest!

Intentionally blurred
[edit]Hello! Your file File:Kanakapura-Road-Thalaghattapura-Post.jpg is not intentionally blurred, else I would have moved it to Category:Intentionally_blurred_images. But you are right, it is questionable if this image is really that blurry for the non-intentional category, it's just just slightly out of focus. --Funfood ␌ 19:00, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
- It isn't out of focus. It's clear enough. : ( --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 19:55, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

Animals and copyright
[edit]I know of no law in the UK that says animals can't hold copyrights, though my ignorance of the law does not mean the law does not exist.
My statement was based on multiple statements by Wikimedia editors and by the Wikipedia foundation that as copyright of an image belongs to the person who took the photo, and they assert both that a macaque ape is the "person who took the photo" rather than the wildlife photographer who set up the shot, and that in US law an animal such as an ape cannot hold copyright, the photos are public domain. I object to this: it seems merely a rather high-handed way of removing the legal ownership of the photos from the photographer, David Salter, and transferring the photos to Wikimedia. - Ahem, seriously @SeraphinaWinsham: , how much are you being to represent Slater? :D --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 18:20, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
Copyright status: File:Music-2543389 1920.jpg
[edit]Copyright status: File:Music-2543389 1920.jpg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Music-2543389 1920.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
