Hi. I was trying to add a drop shadow effect (using illustrator) to this file and I get the next warning:
This file contains HTML or script code that may be erroneously interpreted by a web browser. See the FAQ for more information.
Can someone help with this? thanks, Eitan96 (talk) 08:11, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

- Great, it will take months to fix that. Thank you any way, I will search for another solution. Eitan96 (talk) 10:46, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Eitan96: , you don't have to wait. The discussion concludes, that only external links to filters are blocked. Drop shadow effects can be done without external filters. I tested it here. There are several ways to make it work. I recommend to try using Inkscape's drop shadow filter. Another way is to look into the svg file with a text editor and manually fix external links (needs svg knowledge). Further either me or another editor can add it, if you either describe or draw an outline, where you want the shadow. -- Maklaan (talk) 22:24, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

- Btw the SVG should be 1kB not 171 (or 300). ↔ User: Perhelion (Commons: = crap?) 23:54, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
- Why is it so important if the svg is 1k or 300k? Today for almost every viewer an image that is 50 or 500k is not a problem regarding speed. To me the most important thing is how the image looks, what it gives the viewer. Then of course you should try to make it as small as possible, valid svg, good rendering at wikimedia. Then to me comes size. I use Inkscape and I'm not very good in optimizing the code manually, I do try to learn to some extent, to me that is secondary. If you have the knowledge to optimize the code afterwards feel free to do that, that's just great. What I show on that link is by the way a DRAFT and not the final image. --Goran tek-en (talk) 10:36, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

- Graphist opinion(s)
- @Kopiersperre: I narrowed it down to #p mask, when you remove the mask it renders the image. I can't look further into it just yet, but thought I would point you in the direction of the problem. If I get a chance later on I might be able to dig more into it if someone else hasn't already.Offnfopt(talk) 15:12, 23 May 2015 (UTC)
- Also I want to add that the svgcheck tool is good for testing SVG > PNG bugs/problems. It will render the SVG as a PNG using the same software as wikipedia/common so you can test without having to upload to commons.Offnfopt(talk) 15:17, 23 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Kopiersperre: I took a closer look at the markup and tried to come up with different workarounds but didn't have much luck. I'm still fairly new to SVG markup (only started 2 months ago, dabbling in my free time) so maybe someone else with more experience could figure a work around since RSVG is not rendering correctly. At this point there are two options: (I) Remove the mask - This would take away the transparent fade and make a circular arrow which would render in a PNG. The problem with this is it would make the icon look more like a refresh icon instead of undo. (II) The other option would be just leave it as is and maybe in a future update of the RSVG rendering software the problem will be fixed.Offnfopt(talk) 20:47, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

- Actually, I am not sure what is the right English term for "Foyer" (hearth, fireplace?). Yann (talk) 16:19, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
- héliostats -> heliostats;
- miroirs orientables -> adjustable mirrors
- Four solaire de moyenne puissance -> Solar furnace of average power
- miroirs en parabole -> parabolic mirrors
- Four solaire de 1 Mégawatt -> Solar furnace of 1 Megawatt
- Neither "hearth" nor "fireplace" sounds good there. Simplest would be "focus"... AnonMoos (talk) 08:14, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- I'll do this one. Maproom (talk) 14:23, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- Done, see above. Comments follow.
- I have translated "miroirs en parabole" as "parabolic mirror", not "parabolic mirrors" as specified. Hundreds of small, probably flat, mirrors together form one parabolic mirror.
- I have used the word "focus", as recommended by AnonMoos.
- I think the diagram is really two diagrams, showing a "Solar furnace of average power" and a "Solair furnace generating 1 megawatt" side-by-side, for comparison. I have therefore moved the former caption to the left and the latter to the right, for clarity.
- I suspect that the single flat mirror at the bottom left of the diagram should be slightly curved.
- I don't know what licence is acceptable when I upload a modification of an image already on Commons. In the past I have tried guessing, and my upload gets deleted. This time I have not even bothered to guess, I have just said that I don't know what licence to use. Unless someone who understands this can assign an acceptable licence to my upload, it will be deleted in a week.

@KAVEBEAR: IMO this would be better suited for the Photography workshop and instead of creating vector images, to make the background transparent and keep the images in raster format. Converting signatures to vector is a bit of a pain because of how many micro adjustments it takes to try to get the vector signature to match up with the raster signature. The point I'm trying to make is that it is easier to create the raster version of the signatures so there will be more users who can do the task fairly quick. With that said, I've created some raster signature images of your request since no one has took on the request to create vector images. Offnfopt(talk) 21:22, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

- Request
- A while back I approached Commons on whether poor quality physics drawings could be posted with the undertanding that students would later improve them. The one person who answered approved. Shown above are three examples of "editable" images that I have contributed. Now I want to do something a bit more involved. The project would begin with a simple but expertly drawn image of Man Ray's Object to be destroyed. Originally created in 1923, it consisted of a metronome with a photograph of an eye attached to its swinging arm. In 1957 it was actually destroyed by a group of students who called themselves the 'Jarivistes'.
- This editable svg drawing would serve to help students learn Inkscape. The Inkscape facsmile must be an svg file that is simple enough so novice students could understand it as they edit it. The svg file does not have to look exactly like an actual photograph. But the layers should be simple enough so that editing it would be a learning experience (see the editable eye for a sample). When teaching programming skills I find it useful to give students a simple skeleton file from which to begin, and Inkscape is not unlike a computer language.
- This ends the reasonable part of my request. The rest might not be allowed by Commons/Wikipedia, but there is no harm in asking.
- I will seek permission from Wikipedia and Commons to replace the photo currently on Wikipedia:Object to be destroyed by the Inkscape file, with a caption explaining that this is an editable svg file. Then a group of people proceed to stage a fake edit war as they edit the image and/or attempt to restore it (or better yet, just post it and see if anybody edits it). If Wikipedia is not interested, we can use Wikiversity (where anything goes). It is possible that Commons would not welcome such activity. In that case, we confine all the nonsense to an internal server associated with our campus computers (other people could do the same thing, namely download the image and edit it on personal computers). --Guy vandegrift (talk) 15:40, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

- * Hi, I am natively Dutch speaking. Reading the Dutch article and coherent with what I know myself about the disaster, I'm suggesting some corrections, since the English translation appears to be incorrect:
- EXIT > Uitgang
- Fatal > Dodelijk gewond
- Serious injury > Kritieke toestand
- Moderate injury > Zwaargewond
- Minor injury > Licht letsel
- Injury not known > Onbekend letsel
- Vacant seat > Onbezette stoel
- Explanation:
- Ernstig letsel literally translates into: severe injuries. The text of the Dutch article though states these where critical injuries.
- Critical injuries translates into: Kritieke toestand.
- Matig letsel translates into: moderate injuries. The article though states these where severe injuries.
- Severe injuries translates into: Zwaargewond.
- Geen inzittende translates into: No passenger.
- Vacant seat translates into Onbezette stoel.

- For some reason the text which I added to the image are rendered as black boxes on Commons. Does anyone knows why? --Helder 17:53, 9 July 2015 (UTC)
- Graphist opinion(s)
- This is due to the use of flowed text, which is an Inkscape-specific feature that isn't supported elsewere, causing text to render as black rectangles in MediaWiki. See Commons:SVG#Black rectangle (Flowed Text bug). (FYI, the graphics village pump is a better place for discussing technical problems with images than the Graphic Lab.) - Please update the color... Red is now #DD0000 per their branding website. Thanks. --Corkythehornetfan 17:06, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
- Graphist opinion(s)
- @Corkythehornetfan: Please verify change in color. According to the linked branding guide, #DD0000 is used for the "Academic" N while the "Athletic" N (depicted above) should be Pantone 186. "Athletic" red is described on page 19 and the current file appears to approximate Pantone 186, although I'm not very familiar with the Pantone system (and am working on an uncalibrated monitor). Various unofficial sources put Pantone 186 as #c8102e, #cc0033 (websafe) from rgb.to or #d21034 from mera.se. There are numerous other approximations for Pantone 186 based on a quick web search. The current file uses the color #e11d38. Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 15:33, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
- @Mliu92: In their guidelines, they use #DD0000 (page 28) which says PMS 186. Just because they list it as "school colors", doesn't exactly mean that it is only for the academic side. The guidelines from the Athletics website shows PMS 186 for both academic and athletics. The Madeira and RA codes are also the same (not sure what exactly those are, but they're the same), which tells me it is the same code (#DD0000). The athletics link also says it was as of August 11, 2015. If the university lists a certain hex code, that is the one we've usually gone by (at least on the English Wikipedia), because they have a certain code used in their branding. We usually refer to those sites if they do not have a code listed. The current file is outdated (color-wise), which is why I've requested this change. Thanks, Corkythehornetfan 19:57, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

- @Feuermond16: take a look at these vector versions. I used Nimbus Sans L in lieu of Helvetica Neue for the lettering, so some of the shapes are not exactly correct (for instance, the "5" in the last sign). I stuck with 1000px high sizes for the most part (the majority of the signs are 800x1000) and used the red color from Eco Pfad Bad Emstal. Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 04:26, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

- A moderator commented on my page saying how I should change the file from .png to .svg in order to improve the quality of the image. In short I used a few converters, but they ended up just becoming completely black. He said I should ask for a request here. So, how can I make it .svg? And why is the black thing happening? Thanks in advance! -Tardis218 (talk)
- Graphist opinion(s)
Both images are of such a good quality that technically there is no need to redo them or convert them to svg. If they are converted to svg in commons and wikipedia they will be rendered as png anyway which would end up with the same resolution quality. That is why I recommend: save your time and leave them as is. -- Maxxl² - talk 18:18, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
- As a trial, I converted (redrew) the first image to SVG, which yields an 84x savings in space. It helps pages load faster on bandwidth-limited machines, which is one motivation to change to vector drawings. On the other hand, it's not like 84KB is a huge file by any means, either, so the advantage may be slight for most broadband connections. I agree, the original file is of sufficient resolution to scale cleanly to smaller sizes, as well, but that's the other primary reason to convert to SVG. Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 18:30, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
- It does not help to load faster as the server immediately converts every svg to a serie of thumbnails and standard size png and returns on request of the svg file only png images to every wikipage as svg files can not be displayed in context. The space saving is to be neglected as the storage capacity we have here in the wikimedia world is unlimited. A huge file is 8 MB jpg file which contains the photo image of simple shack in the outback. Files of that kind and size are uploaded and stored here by thousands every day. -- Maxxl² - talk 18:47, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

I don't think the rainbow stripes are intrusive. If you're determined to remove them, you should fork a new image instead of overwriting the current one. To do that, open the SVG file in Notepad++ and remove codes from line 17 to 93 and save as a new SVG file. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 03:49, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
- I disagree, Sameboat. The colour bars meet UK's threshold of originality, which is very low. See COM:TOO#United Kingdom and Commons:Deletion requests/File:Pet Shop Boys - Introspective.jpg. --George Ho (talk) 06:36, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
- Then go on. As I said, removing those stripes is very straightforward which doesn't even require you to open the SVG file in any graphic editor. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 06:50, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

- I guess you removed the wrong codes. I uploaded my revision, but due to recent Wikimedia cache issue you may not see the result (PNG render) immediately. - @Corkythehornetfan: Scarlet updated to #CC0033 (was #D53D40). Inspection of the logotype at the linked visual identity manual shows the line weight is approximately 14.3% of the serif height, so I adjusted the line weight as well. The existing line was #000000, so no color adjustment was needed.

I don't quite get what exactly this request is for. Because all logos in question contain merely typeface, you can upload the original source to Commons with the {{Pd-logo}} license tag. In this particular case I agree that it's unnecessary to insist on the "text" over "path" version of the SVG files due to the inconsistent font metrics which misrepresent the company's logos. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 03:06, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

Recommending the escutcheon shape and the blue from the fourth image, the coa of Dalmatia (which doesn't require modification). Thanks in advance. --DIREKTOR (TALK) 13:19, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

- Why? Anyway the Dalmatia escutcheon is not well formed, in addition Dalmatia coa is also unheraldic. I suggest to give it to an heraldic project. → Perhelion 13:39, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
- Well the three coas were all taken from various sources that do not relate to the actual regions. One is taken from the Croatian republic coat of arms, the other is the Istria County coa.. I.e. their shape is wrong for the purpose we have in mind over there, which is simply representing the regions with their respective traditional symbol, and it would be rather well for the coas to appear less haphazard.
- Naturally, the escutcheon shape was merely a suggestion. A well formed escutcheon would be preferable to one that isn't such.
- But please do clear that up. What do you mean exactly that the Dalmatia escutcheon isn't well formed? And what makes it unheraldic? Also, where precisely do you suggest I take the Dalmatia coa? --DIREKTOR (TALK) 13:57, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

- If this project were to be undertaken, I would also suggest simultaneously fixing font problems in these pyramid diagrams. Many of them use fonts that the Wikimedia Commons SVG-to-PNG graphics engine cannot render correctly. A 'bot could easily perform font substitution in the SVG file text. I've fixed a few dozen manually, but there are so many of them I eventually gave up. — Quicksilver@ 20:13, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

- Is there proof for the white hem actually being a part of the flag? The "Construction" section of the EnWP article is unsourced, and while the government page sourced elsewhere in the article includes the same table of measures, it's not clear the "Uçkurluk" (translated as "hem") is actually part of the flag design. In fact the flag image on the government page does not include a white stripe at the hoist. SiBr4 (talk) 17:14, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

- Nominally, pre, but with a bust form in use.. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:39, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
- Without wanting to be thought of as politically incorrect (which I am most of the time), I'd suggest flattening out the curve of the butt, increasing the shoulder and chest width marginally, the same with the thighs, reducing the bust, also marginally and maybe introducing a slight groin bulge (a straight forward curved path like the eyebrows could do that). The face could stay the same as that's purely cosmetic anyway. Mostly it could be done with the existing SVG and just moving the relevant anchor points in or out to taste. I took out most of the cusp points and replaced them with curves so it should be relatively easy to do without introducing too many distortions or angular points. I'd volunteer to do it, but I'm right in the middle of a couple of larger jobs (one that's already been delayed a couple of weeks) --Fred the Oyster (talk) 17:07, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

'French' maid design
3. I've uploaded a basic pattern for the 'French' Maid design. It will need some tweaking before it's directly usable on fabric.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sfan00 IMG (talk • contribs) 22:43 26 October 2014 (UTC)
- As I said, I can't do anything at the mo', but I can recommend a couple of techniques that will make life a lot easier for you when doing vector graphics. These are especially useful when doing symmetrical shapes that have curves.
- If it's a pair of things you need to do like legs or arms. just do one of them, then when that's done to your satisfaction reflect it, et voila you have matching legs. Likewise, when you have a symmetrical shape like a face, only do half of it. Again when you are satisfied with that half, reflect it then join the two halves together. This way all the curves will match on both sides instead of struggling to get the bezier curves identical.
- If you want to get things to fit inside another shape, e.g. the fishnets in the diagram above. There are two ways in which you can do it.
- Either design the leg the way you want it and use it as a clipping path to contain the fishnets so nothing goes outside the lines of the leg.
- The other alternative if you aren't too sure about clipping paths/masks is to use pathfinder operations, i.e. use one shape to cut out a section of another shape to create a new third shape. E.g. The legs and the fishnets. Now I'm not sure how the exact procedure goes in Inkscape, but it will be close to this... 1. create the leg. 2. create the fishnets. It doesn't matter how big so long as it's wider and taller than the leg. Then copy and paste a copy of the leg on top of the fishnets then subtract the leg from the fishnets (ie all that's left of the fishnets was what appeared inside, intersected, the leg shape) so that only the fishnets remain. Those fishnets will now exactly fit the inside of the leg so all the tiny nooks and crannies will fit and there won't be any gaps or protrusions.--Fred the Oyster (talk) 23:57, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

Someone with ChemDraw help please?
I need a lot of images for the ton of work I've put into my page to go with the tables I've added: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cocaine_analogues
I just need someone to remake the following images, with suggested names (BME standing for Benzoyl Methyl Ecgonine, the numbers being S. Singh's alphanumeric for the compound, etc.):
[3] BME401a-f
[4] BMEnoncatalyticHapten394, BMEnoncatalyticHapten395, BMEnoncatalyticHapten396
[5] 3alphaModifiedBenztropine
[6] 3alphaDiphenylmethoxyBenztropine
I need a ton more, but this would be a start! Thanks Nagelfar (talk) 17:36, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

- I don't know what operating system you run but Chemtool is a program on Linux and it has a test version for windows here. Into this program you can import files x.mol, edit if you need and then export as x.svg. At this link you can search and download x.mol files for each compound. If you don't run Linux I'm sure you can find a similar program for your OS.
- It's much better if you download them your self as you have the different formulas and you know what is right or wrong.
- Also if it's that many you are more motivated to do them all. --Goran tek-en (talk) 15:37, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

- @Offnfopt: Do you think you can make the gears background transparent as well? -- とある白い猫 ちぃ? 08:01, 16 June 2015 (UTC)
- SVG and the PNG-24 file formats allow for a variable level of transparency, because of this it is easier to use anti-aliasing to make smoother looking edges while maintaining the ability to have transparency. GIF on the other hand just has one level of transparency, it is either 100% transparency or 0%, there is no ability for 50%, 25% etc transparency. Because of this it is hard to have smooth edges of curved elements in a picture when using a transparent background, this causes the edges to be more pixelated. So I can't have a transparent background on the GIF because the edges would be pixelated and look horrible. Offnfopt(talk) 00:41, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

@とある白い猫/15: Take a look at the upload history for File:Revision Scoring as a Service logo-rev2.svg there are 5 revisions of the logo, see if any are what you had in mind. If not even just providing a rough mspaint sketch can help me to get it how you want. Also just for fun I animated that last revision of the logo I uploaded. Edit: Note: I can remove the borders I added if they are undesirable. -Offnfopt(talk) 02:51, 16 June 2015 (UTC)
- @Offnfopt: The inspiration behind Revision Scoring logo was File:Squaredcircle.svg which is the glyph of the w:Philosopher's stone. I like the final version of File:Revision Scoring as a Service logo-rev2.svg (shown) overall but I wonder if it'd be better for the red circle to remain within the triangle of the letter A. Would that make it too small? Also I think the borders make it feel a bit weird though I am not really sure. What do you think? -- とある白い猫 ちぃ? 09:56, 16 June 2015 (UTC)

- @Offnfopt: Do you think you can rotate the outer circles so that it resembles the configuration of the community logo (aka meta wiki logo). I am also curious if you can play with this design a little, 4 fragments are strange but also perhaps the tail of the i can be a bit longer, longer than the A so that its more prominent - there seems to be some white space around all logos too :/ . Also, feel free to come up with a radical design too. I'd not want you to be confined to our suggestions :) -- とある白い猫 ちぃ? 20:19, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

- It's the UK road sign font, stencil art or a font based on these would be useful in implementing more accurate road sign graphics for WikiProjectsShakespeareFan00 (talk) 14:02, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
- Having inspected the images of Category:SVG road signs in the UK with 319 excellent files I doubt that there is a huge demand for new and more accurate drawing in the future. Please keep in mind that it takes several man days of intensive work to transfer the PDF-data to a true type font by hand. The font itself can't be uploaded here as part of the SVG-code, but has to be transformed into path elements by Inkscape (or another editor) beforehand and is then rendered to a PNG file by librsvg to be displayed. If there is a realistic need for 100+ SVG files to be generated within one year one could consider to invest the labour in this project only if the text elements cant be retrieved from a PDF file. -- Maxxl² - talk 15:09, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

Unless one of the graphists happens to be very knowledgeable in this area of anatomy, I think you'll need to tell us what is wrong with the diagram in much less technical language. :) NikNaks talk - gallery - wikipedia 11:40, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
- DS has asked me to comment here. This reference indicates that another synapse should be present. The red line that descends from number 1 should go much lower—to C8-T2. This is at the bottom of the neck/top of the thorax. At that point, there is a synapse within the spinal cord. For consistency, that point should be marked on the diagram with a red dot, similar to number 3. That synapse is called the ciliospinal centre [of Budge]. From that point, the red line should move forwards (towards the right of the diagram) out of the spinal cord up the sympathetic chain to numbers 2 and 3. Axl (talk) 13:13, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

- @DragonflySixtyseven: @Axl: OK now you can look at a draft with the new information in it. I tried my best to understand and I looked at other images also. The original illustration was done in such a way that I had to redo it to be able to edit it easily, and to me it was to wide front-back so I made the version above more compact front-back.
- Should there not be explanations on what the other stuff there is or is this just for people with knowledge in the subject?
- Should not the other stuff have more "body/texture" in it so it's easier to understand?
- So give me feedback on what to change and so on, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 19:08, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
- Goran, thank you for making this draft. It is certainly an improvement.

- I am not sure that the double line descending from number 1 is helpful. I think that it would be better as a single line. Perhaps the red line should mirror the curve of the back of the neck, similar to the spinal column. Even though the line does descend lower now, it is still not low enough. Also, I now realise that numbers 2 & 3 (the stellate ganglion and superior cervical ganglion) are also too high. This picture gives a better idea of the levels of the ganglions.
- Regarding the "unlabelled" parts, there are parts of the brain, the carotid artery, and the muscles around the eye. If you think that the picture would be improved with these labelled, that would be fine. Axl (talk) 09:10, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
@Axl: I have zero knowledge of this subject, please remember that when explaining.
At the beginning of this request there is a link ciliospinal center which is supposed to be correct and in the image there are two lines going up, that's why I drew like that.
You refer to the spinal column but I can't find it in the new image you provided.
- In the new draft you can see that I have joined the structure (blood vessel?) between 4 and B, is this correct?
- I have added other things (and more surface) also but I'm not sure I have understood it right so you have to check the draft thoroughly.
- As you can see I have added letters to the parts that I wonder what is this and I guess I'm not alone. That information has to be added into the information but right now I wonder what is F (part of the brain...)?
To an illustration like this you can work with lights, shadows and texture as much as you want but I think we should keep this in this more simple style.
So look at this draft and give me feedback, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:49, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

- I am sorry for the delay in my response.
- The image in "Ciliospinal center" shows two separate nerve fibres/paths to the eye. These two paths remain separate throughout; one goes to the upper part of the sphincter while the other goes to the lower part.
- You are right that the spinal column is not explicitly marked in the image. This is because it is hidden by the overlying muscles. However the descending part of the path (marked D in your new image) is in the spinal column.
- I suppose that the blood vessel (marked B, leading upwards) is the common carotid artery leading into the internal carotid artery. I am unsure if "B" is supposed to represent the branching of the subclavian artery; if it is, it is far too high. In any case, the pink line (nerve fibres) should not curl forward around a branch of the blood vessel.
- On your diagram, "F" is the cerebellum. (It should occupy more space, but it is not really necessary on the diagram.) Axl (talk) 18:45, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

- These three coats of arms all belong to knights of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem. Members at that grade are permitted to place their shields on the badge of the Order as seen in this picture. Would someone be able to place the Maltese cross behind each of these three shields? Thanks so much.--Boven (talk) 16:19, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
