- The photographer Jay Godwin is hired directly by the Library[1], so it should be public domain as a work of the government. - Can you explain this to me further? I've just uploaded 250 images donated to us by BBC's former Turkey correspondent, and some of them may have 2D designs in them, because some images are of protests, shops, etc. I would argue that this is not a work of art, but a protest banner. Are you going to delete all images that contain 2D designs in Turkey? Surely this means that no images of shops or signs in Turkey are allowed? This seems like overkill to me. - Hi Patrick, I think there's been a misunderstanding here. I didn't suggest that you were going to do anything with the other images I just uploaded. I was just seeking more information about whether NO-FOP applies to protest banners like the one in the image you have nominated here. If this rule were to apply to protest signs, then some of the other images I have uploaded would be affected. However, I do not think that any of these designs constitute works of art, because they are intended as either political promotion, or protest signs, and I have just never considered that our rules on copyright would apply to such images. --Jwslubbock (talk) 16:41, 1 October 2019 (UTC)

- Keep per criteria for deleting a file. You've provided an argument for protection, not for deletion. Valid arguments for deleting a file entirely can be found at COM:CSD. If the file itself was created with the intent to vandalize or mislead, that is a reason to delete it; the file being subject to vandalism or misinformation by other editors is a reason to impose sanctions on said editors, not a reason to delete the file. Comment in response to FOARP, the anonymous IP editor, and Scolaire With all due respect I kindly request that you familiarize yourselves with the policies of Wikimedia Commons. This is not synonymous with Wikipedia itself, and especially not synonymous with English Wikipedia. It's one thing to remove an image from the article on English Wikipedia per consensus. It is in every way different to delete it from Wikimedia Commons entirely. I've taken images off of articles off of Wikipedia due to original research violations before, such as the English Wikipedia article "Minarchism." That doesn't mean that I pushed for it being deleted from Wikimedia Commons because that's not how it works. Being removed Wikipedia is not a reason to remove a file from Wikimedia. Since no country in the world recognises the independence of Catalonia, a map of the world showing (some) countries not recognising it serves no purpose. Worse, the red area is for states not recognizing and/or rejecting the Catalan Republic, without distinguishing between the two, while orange is for states voicing a position but neither recognizing nor rejecting the Catalan Republic (so what position are they voicing?), and grey is for states not voicing a position. The author of this foto Lucian Parvulescu (and the specie author) granted use of it until a new (and better) foto of an Austropotamobius bihariensis is obtained. This was achieved and a new file named Austropotamobius bihariensis 2 was uploaded and is used for the species page. So this foto of species habitus is redundant and no longer holds the permission of the author. Also i would like to know if there is a way to request deletion of previous versions of Austropotamobius bihariensis 2.jpg as those versions holds in the metadata some metadata that could hurt the specie protection. First, de minimis requires that the copyrighted work be such a small part of the image that if it were removed, the average viewer would not notice that it was gone. That is obviously not the case here, as the Rex is either the principal subject or a major contributor to every image. As noted above, the right to freely license images of the building is not owned by the owners of the building, but by the architect. Keeping images of the building would require a free license from the architect. As to the information plate, the text on it is certainly copyrighted. A) the copyright is owned by the writer, (B) it is owned by the writer and a second copyright is owned by the translator, or (C) there are two copyrights, owned by the two writers, whichever applies. There is no freedom of panorama in France (at least none that is acceptable for Wikimedia Commons, it's for non-commercial purposes only). The files can be restored in 2042.

- I think the copyright of this picture belongs to me. Because this flag was designed by me, it has many differences with the flags used by Hong Kong demonstrators. Their differences include but are not limited to:
- Different color choices, I used special red and yellow color to match the visual effects to the CCP's flag color.(Not simply used #FF0000 or #FFFF00)
- The size and proportion of the stars and aspect ratio of the banner. are also designed by me. I don't know the size of the Hong Kong demonstrators chose. So I used the design of the CCP. The ratio of big stars to little stars is 3:1. The aspect ratio is 3:2.( When I designed this picture, the demonstrators used obviously not 3:2.)
- The arrangement of the stars is also designed by me, including the cross shape and the proportion of the spacing between the surrounding stars.
- The stars in my flag have been rotated and they have a specific direction. Little stars all point to the big stars. But the version used by Hong Kong demonstrators does not.

Your reason has been further considered but they are not persuasive. Specifically, your reason includes the following two features: (A) The color of the current flag and other Chinazi flags share same color in visual (red and yellow); and (B) The amout and the arrangement of the stars are the same. However, it should be pointed out that most of the Chinazi flags incorporating CCP stars/colors into Nazi flags would include these features, thus they should be regarded as "common features of the Chinazi flag" but not "features which could distinguish one works from others."
Regarding to the feature (A), most of the communist flags are yellow stars on red. The color of the current flag could merely be regarded as a symbol of communists but not a plagiarism of other Chinazi flags.
Regarding to the feature (B), as we know, the Nazi symbol could be outlined as "45-degree turmed 卐". In order to represent the symbol "卐", 1 star has to be put on the intersection thereof, and further 4 stars on the 4 turning points, 4 stars on the 4 end points, and 8 stars on 8 line segments. Therefore, almost all of the flags that incorporating CCP stars into Nazi flags, namely using the rearrangement of the stars to represent the Nazi symbol, include these stars.
In contrast, the elements in this flag, as the differences I mentioned above, are significantly diffrerent from prior works including the flag you attached..
Regarding to diffrence 1: the designers skilled in the art would clearly realize "the red in communist flag" are different to the color #FF0000. The red used by communist should be darker in order to represent the color of blood, as you know. On the other hand, the yellow in this flag is also not #FFFF00 since a slightly orangish yellow is more common used in ancient China as the color of Emperor.
Regarding to difference 2: The previous Chinazi flags, for instance the flag you attached, are merely put the stars on a red flag. However, in my view, the size of the "big star", which represent CCP, should be significantly larger than the "small stars", since the flag of PRC represents "the four classes should follow the CCP. " We use the ratio in PRC flag (size of big star is 3 times to size of small stars), to ensure the "big star" is not too small.
Regarding to difference 3: In the beginning, I would like to choose the same distance from the big star to small stars of PRC flag. However, since the distance between the four small stars and the big star in PRC flag is different, and anyone of the distance is too long that the Nazi sign draw according thereto would bigger than the red background, the distance used in the current flag must be reduced. However, after the distance reduction, the collision would be happened among the big star and the nearest small stars on the center cross if we put these nearest small stars in the middle points of the big star and the stars on the turning points (as used in the flag you attached). Therefore, in the current flag, the ratio of "the distance from big star to the nearest small stars" to "the distance from the nearest small stars to the stars on the turning points" is 2 : 1. The arrangement could also produce a visual effect that, the center cross looks like more "powerful" arms thereby the center big star (CCP) could "lead", or say, "drive" all the stars (e.g. to turn like a fan).
Regarding to difference 4: The direction of small flags in PRC flag is an inportant feature. For instance, a PRC flag in 2016 Olympic Games, which turns all the stars upward, is clearly criticized by CCTV (https://www.weibo.com/2656274875/E2qDdacIs). The flag you attached fails to represent this features. In contrast, the small stars in current flag clearly point toward the big star, as in PRC flag.

Both the original flag and the derivative in question fail to meet the threshold of originality required for copyright protection. Both flags feature a simple geometric shape (a 卐, rotated, which is already included [7] on Wikipedia under public domain laws) made up of five pointed stars, which are also not under copyright protection due to their simplicity.

- Btw. The picture is in use now on pl-wiki -> pl:Wychodek. Also we have not many art works that illustrate outhouses -> Category:Outhouses in art (there are only few arts) so every piece of art is valuable. I do not clearly can understend the meaning that good dravings or paintings, even of unknown authors is something worse than the same photograps of unknown authors. Why? - The original uploader on Flickr is obviously from the original dev team. The piece of Google map in there is very generic and featureless and shouldn't qualify for copyright protection. - I know that there is copyright. But there is also the threshold of originality. So my question is whether these few roads and this piece of coastline with nothing special to their rendering really qualify for copyright protection.

- Thank you Roy17 for your efforts, however, all photography images taken in public places in Saudi Arabia are permitted, unless the place itself prohibits photography. This is based on a royal decree that was issued in 2006 which states the following:
”photography shall be permitted in public places where no signs prohibiting photography are provided, and shall be prohibited where such signs are provided.” The second clause of the decree has aims, one of which is the following: "Promoting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a tourism destination.”
Furthermore, The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property’s laws and regulations do not prohibit taking photography images of public places, unless a sign that prohibits doing so exists.
In addition, currently, there is no law or regulation that prohibits taking pictures of public places In Saudi Arabia. The freedom of Panorama does not exist either. Deleted: You misunderstand. The fact that photography is legal is irrelevant. Photography is legal everywhere in almost every country. The issue here is that the building in the image was built in the last 100 years and therefore its architecture is still under copyright.
