Comment It was an accidental upload. When i´am writing this the upload where this image is inserted ended 7 minutes before. It seems like Ies expect that others work and clean their uploads in supersonic mode. Proposal that these images not be deleted or they should be resubmitted in the recommended way
[edit]Copyright is an important issue.
I would propose that these images not be deleted, but rather be preserved, or that other third party sources be found for them. They are part of a new article USPS Building Bridges Special Postal Cancellation Series and enhance the article and also give important reference for the descriptions of the content of the article.
Here are some things to consider, and some knowledge:
- Copyrights for cancellations are different than for stamps. Stamps are created by USPS, and thus are a USPS copyright. Cancellations are created by Postmasters and an independent art director (if the art director is not an employee of USPS) signs contracts with USPS giving permission for USPS to use the illustration for the one time cancellation, but the copyright for the cancellation remains with the original copyright owner and is only used by USPS with permission in connection with one event, for a period of 30 days. Since Karen Lile is the copyright owner, she has the ability to grant permission to Wikipedia to use these images. (I obtained this information from two retired postmasters, who are familiar with the process and have been involved in issuing postal cancellations.)
- USPS has published a Press Release for the media for these, which is still online, which has copies of the images of the cancellations for the media to use, and the press release is published permanently for the public to view. If it is not appropriate for Karen Lile to contribute the images, could I take a section from the USPS Press Release and submit it to Wikipedia?
- On the US Copyright law. Another approach would be to take a photo of a cancellation and stamp that was issued at the Special Postal Cancellation Station. This would be the same as taking a photo of a letter someone received through the mail. The photograph is the copyrightable intellectual property, in this case, so the photographer could contribute to Wikipedia because they own the copyright?
- Can we use an image of from a published newspaper?. There are some newspaper articles that published the image of the cancellation.
- Creative Common License? What if we asked Karen Lile to publish the images online with a Creative Commons license? Would that be a better approach? And then the images could be brought from Creative Commons to wikipedia. We as authors, would want to respect the right of Karen Lile, the copyright owner, to determine how this image is used, since it is something that she licenses actively to USPS. And I would not suggest violating any US Copyright.

[edit] Delete any files that include USPS stamps are copyright and should be deleted without question. For the other images we would need evidence that the postmarks, which are certainly not COM:TOO, have been released under a free licence by the copyright holder, who mostly likely be the USPS. I have never seen an instance where they have released anything under a free licence. On the other hand, perhaps the designer retained the copyright but we would need to see the contact to verify that and then be given a release permission statement per OTRS. Copyright Ownership
[edit]The copyright owner of the Building Bridges image common to all the images is Karen Earle Lile, not USPS (Building Bridges Website reveals designer). Lile is both Art Director and designer. In the rectangle to the right of each concept, illustrators vary. USPS requires that the designer/illustrator signs a release that she/he has permission to use illustrations included in the cancellation. See my comments above. From Copyright Owner: Please remove the images for now, but continue the discussion
[edit]I am the original and current copyright owner, designer for the Building Bridges logo and I have given permission to USPS to use it for cancellations over the years. However, since there is an ongoing discussion on this topic on this page, I suggest that we remove the images for now, but let the discussion continue. I need time to evaluate the issues that are brought up by the above discussion and to understand how Wikipedia does things. If there is a way that you can include these images through third parties, and allowable use, that would be best. I partner with USPS on this series and I completely comply with all their policies and patterns of behavior, in the interest of good relations. I prefer to err on the side of caution. - @TaronjaSatsuma. Only OTRS volunteers are allowed to put tickets on the images after they verify them, the uploader does not do that unless they are OTRS volunteers. Just get the copyright holder, who is usually the author of the image, to send an OTRS verification email per the procedure found at COM:OTRS and it should be good assuming the licences is acceptable. BTW, I wrote appears to be false I did not state it is false. Also we do not make initial contact with them, they can contact us initially and maybe they will even give a blanket licence for all their images so all uploads can be properly licensed in future to avoid problems. This file unbeknownst to me, the user Kenrick95 move this file from Indonesian Wikipedia to the Wikimedia Commons. So I ask that this file is immediately deleted from the Wikimedia Commons. In addition I initially knew nothing about the license of this type can be used by anyone and can be moved to Wikimedia Commons because at that time I was still a beginner in Wikipedia. Moreover, these files do not have a description or explanation is sufficient so that it can be used on Wikipedia. And also this file is also not used at all in any Wikipedia. Hi, I just got the message that some of these images have been put on the deletion notice board, and since there appears to be confusion, I'll explain.
Firstly, File:Wilmington Delaware Skyline.png. I uploaded this image way back when and I didn't see a copyright logo so I assumes it would be okay to use. I have removed it from the List of Tallest Buildings in Wilmington, Delaware article just to be safe in case it was copyright because back then, I didn't know better.
Secondly, File:Comcast Innovation and Technology Center.jpg can be found on my personal Flickr account. The link is here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/146875064@N03/31512090804/in/dateposted-public/
Third, the rest of the images were taken by some fellow members on a development forum website that can be found at http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=72398 and I think it was ok to use them here so I did.

- You seem to be making two major assumptions with no real evidence to support it:
- that the photos were published the year they were created
- that the first publication took place in Italy
- Not all photos are published immediately after they were created. Not all photos of persons from Italy are first published in Italy. Not even all photos created in Italy are first published in Italy. Several of the photos you have uploaded may have been created by international news organisations and first published elsewhere. - The logo has been designed by the State Commission on Coordination of the events for the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, and is its official logo, it is hence an official logo of a governemental organisation. It qualifies for PD-AM exempt. Moreover, there is panorama exception in Armenia, and this logo is publicly shown everywhere (at least in the genocide museum) in Armenia. - Deutsch: Das ist ein einfacher Doppelsitzer mit kurzer Spannweite, T-Leitwerk, starrem Fahrwerk, ohne Winglets: typisches Schulungsflugzeug, da gibt es nicht viel Auswahl. Vom Flugbild her mit großer Wahrscheinlichkeit eine hundsordinäre Schleicher ASK 21, eventuell ein Grob Twin II. Allenfalls noch ein Schempp-Hirth Janus (am ca. 8km östlich gelegenen Flugplatz gibt es tatsächlich einen), aber ich meine eine geteilte Haube erkennen zu können und der Rumpf müsste am Heck mMn dünner sein. Es gibt nichts was auf irgendetwas Seltenes hinweisen würde. Und selbst wenn dem so wäre, würden wir es nie herausfinden, weil das Bild zu schlecht ist. Es ist damit nicht sinnvoll nutzbar und fällt ergo aus dem Projektumfang.

Pretty sure it's just a common Schleicher ASK 21: two-seater, short wingspan, no winglets, T-tail, fixed landing gear, the over-all appearance. Could also be a Grob Twin II (doesn't have the fat fuselage of version I nor the wings of version III). Can't totally exclude a Schempp-Hirth Janus (they have one at the airfield 8km to the west), but the rear end of the fuselage looks a bit too wide and the canopy looks like it consists of two sections. The original cover image seems to be copyrighted by the publishing house in 2008. It comes from the recently published book in Ukraine. The entire book is copyrighted. It has no place in Commons as a complete PDF file unless the OTRS ticket #2015112710013066 is about the entire publication, not just about the cover image. - Could we hold our horses on withdrawing the nomination. It's an unattributed reproduction of the image on the stamp. We have no idea of who owns the copyright. While the use of the stamp can be justified as fair usage, the copyright is not that of the uploader to claim it as their own unless they can demonstrate that they are the actual artist who owns the image, or have been given permission to upload it as their own and "... grant anyone the right to use this work for any purpose, without any conditions, unless such conditions are required by law."
