Too low a resolution to be useful. In any case, this is a derivative work of a likely copyrighted emblem. I'm also adding File:Stjohnsdiocesanschool1.jpg to this nomination, which appears to be the same image, but with its resolution artificially increased, making it very poor quality. All of those images include copyrigthed images.
For example:
1. Image of Vartan is too modern and the uploader is not copyright hodler.
2. Image of Mimar Sinan is too modern and the uploader is not copyright holder.
3. The autoportrait of Martiros Saryan was drawn in 1942 and copyrighted. М. С. Сарьян.«Автопортрет с палитрой». 1942. Картинная галерея Армении. Ереван.
4. The portrait of Charles Aznavour was taken from the jacket of Desormais that was published in 1972 in France.

No source or author (or description, but we all know what it is), and this upload dosen't fit in with the rest of the contributor's work. I think it best that we swap out the three legitimate uses (the fourth is a galley of arrows in a userspace page) with a different green arrow and get rid of this one. It is dubious if the uploader really is the Serbian man who made the logo as claimed in the templates on this page. Made by a Serbian man who was honoured in New York. Thus, I take it that the source country is not Germany, despite the German text on the logo, so it is presumably too complex for Commons without OTRS. These sources are earlier: [1][2] Stefan4 (talk) 12:42, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Copyvio (original building made by an architect) Remi Mathis (talk) 11:51, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
- As far as I know, if the law is not clear (as it is in this case, it is a precaution) you don't delete the file, you put a warning, because peeple can still use it for some purposes and in some countries. in any case, I never really though of this "Bibliothèque Marie Curie" as an "artwork" (or similar), for me it was just a building that required an higher resolution image of an already existing one here on commons.
- P.S. In any case, can I at least know the name of this "famous" architect? --Alexmar983 (talk) 12:18, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
- The law is perfectly clear in France: "original" buildings (made by architects, unique and created especially for this purpose) are protected by the "droit d'auteur" (copyright) and there is no FoP in France. The architect of this building is Michel Rémon. Remi Mathis (talk) 13:40, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, but in France. I can use in another country, right? So the most simple precaution is to put a warning that says "don't use it in/on X, Y, Z" in the cases "1","2"... for example if I am prof and I want to display this slide in a teaching presentation, i can still use it. it is the same principles of old photos, you say that you may have a problem in certain countries where the limit is 99 years instead of 75... but you don't remove them. Or logos of Univeristies which are use on some en.wiki pages but can't be used on others, if I remember correctly. In all these cases, you just leave a warning. If you really want to apply the rule "there is problem is some countries" >> "i remove directly from commons everywhere" it is fine for me but I woould prefer the system to be coherent.--Alexmar983 (talk) 16:58, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
- Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that on Commons, you have to respect the copyright both in the US and in the country where the photograph was taken, don't you? [Otherwise, we would make no selection and this photograph would also be displayed on the French-speaking Wikipedia, saying "it's perfectly legal for Swiss people and it's not a French Wikipedia : fr is also for the Swiss"]. According to this source, it seems that tourist development planning began in the 1970s and things didn't really get going until the 1990s. It seems likely, therefore, that this building was designed and built in the 1970s or more recently. Given France's 70 years pma copyright term, this means the building is still a copyrighted work of architecture. Since there is no freedom of panorama in France, this is an unauthorized derivative of a copyrighted work, which must be deleted from Commons. cmadler (talk) 14:18, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Before deleting, I'd like to ask for a short delay : I live a few kilometers from the site and I'll ask as soon as possible for an authorization. I guess I can find thenecessary form on wikipedia. Only two points : -1- if the two files concerning the house have to be deleted, there's a third one which must be deleted too : the wharf, which is a part of the house, i. e. File:Vendoire 24 Embarcadère 2011.jpg ; -2- I don't exactly kow how things are managed in such a case but if deletion is compulsory as soon as possible, do it, and I'll upload again the files when I get the authorization. -- Regards. --JLPC (talk) 16:40, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
- I think deletion discussions normally run at least 7 days. If you get authorization after that, you can file an undeletion request, which is probably better than re-uploading. As for the third image, I personally think the wharf in and of itself is more an uncopyrightable utilitarian object than a copyrightable architectural work (or a meaningful part of the building as a whole). cmadler (talk) 18:07, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

I am nominating this item and others in Category:Promised gifts to the Walters Art Museum for deletion.
Promised gift item, no permission from the Walters Aude (talk) 21:34, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
We did a batch upload of ~20,000 images from the Walters Art Museum a few months ago. See: Category:Media contributed by the Walters Art Museum and Commons:Walters Art Museum
We mistakenly uploaded a subset that are in Category:Promised gifts to the Walters Art Museum, which are promised gift items. The Walters doesn't have the permission to be granting us permission (the OTRS stuff) and we shouldn't have uploaded these.
Now, I realize the items are old enough to be in public domain anyway, but if any of it is going to make it's way on to Commons, we'd rather it not be part of the official donation and have these deleted from the batch upload. The derivative work part is the photograph, which on the Walters website is marked as CC-BY-NC but via OTRS we have them as CC-BY-SA 3.0. The metadata (specifically, the descriptions) are also CC-BY-NC, except where we have OTRS permission. (for everything in their donation, except those in this category)
Deletion is requested as a sacrifice in favor of ongoing broader partnership with the Walters and for all the images we did get with clear permission, etc. Furthermore, we want the Walters to have a good experience with working with Wikimedia Commons and hopefully inspire other institutions to also contribute.
In practical terms, it's problematic to have these images on Commons, with the OTRS tag, the descriptions, etc. which we don't have permission for. To make things totally clear, we request deletion of the items in the promised gift category. Cheers. Aude (talk) 21:40, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
- Delete as a courtesy (and for copyright reasons because of the metadata, in any case). These were clearly uploaded in error, and we should respect the wishes of the Walters since it is their goodwill that has brought us so many high-quality images already. Only ~20 of the hundreds of photos here have been used so far, so there is very little disruption that will be caused since this was caught so soon. Dominic (talk) 21:57, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
- Delete (except images in use) per Aude and Dominic. The Walters Museum has been very generous to Commons and I don't think it will hurt us too much to remove these as a courtesy. Kaldari (talk) 00:55, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
- Delete as a courtesy, as they were uploaded in error. It does not reflect well on any party to have images uploaded of uncertain copyright status, so in the meantime it is reasonable to remove them. In any case, considering that 1/3 of the photo is the sky, 1/3 is the ground and half of the library is covered by trees, in my opinion you can just rename it "Parvis descartes - debourg" and it becomes a simple photo of a panorama...

- Keep The principal part of the building dates from the Middle Ages, it's the same case that the Louvre Pyramid.--Citron (talk) 17:42, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
- The case of the Louvre pyramid is essentially a de minimis situation (not exactly de minimis, but a pretty close analogue under French civil law). The copyrighted work must be an "accessory compared to the main represented or handled subject" and its presence must be unavoidable, and I don't think that's the case here. In both of these photos, the new (copyrighted) portion of the building takes up more—much more—of the photo than the old building, so I don't think it can be deemed merely an "accessory". Further, both images seem to be framed to include both the new and old buildings; the inclusion of the new building (or at least, of so much of the new building) doesn't seem unavoidable but rather deliberate. Rather than compare to File:Louvre at night centered.jpg, which is allowable for the above reasons, I think this may be more comparable to something like this or this, which are deliberately framed to juxtapose the old and new, and would not be allowable on Commons. cmadler (talk) 12:47, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Per my post on Glasshouse's talk page (User talk:Glasshouse#Coronets in British royal monograms) one year ago (and Keivan.f's post there four months ago {User talk:Glasshouse#Royal Monogram of Prince William, Prince Harry and Catherine}): Glasshouse has produced inaccurate work, this has been brought to her/his attention and s/he has corrected some but not all of her/his (otherwise excellent) works. --† DBD 12:23, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

- I think he won't correct them. Specially monogram of Catherine. If he correct them, then I'll agree to keep them, like Fry1989. Keivan.f (talk) 17:46, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

- Keep Now we can keep them but the monogram of Diana is NOT correct because she was not the wife of a child of the Sovereign. She was the wife of the British Heir Apparent and she should have the Coronet of the British Heir Apparent like Camilla. And also I just said my opinion dear Fry1989. Relax! Keivan.f (talk) 11:42, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
Fry1989 is absolutely correct; a coronet change is NOT a valid reason for deletion. In the research I've done, I've found that heraldic crown and coronet standards for monograms were not very strickly adhered to in European monarchies, including the UK, until the late 19th and early 20th century, but more so in the latter part of the 20th century. In many countries, including those that have princely, ducal or comital heraldic crowns such as Denmark, all members of the royal family use an arched sovereign crown just like the monarch's. Often, a generic crown is and has been used on monograms for various royal houses throughout history, including Britain. Personal stationery especially is lax in the type of crown used.
However, for some reason this seems to be a desperately troublesome topic so to preclude any diaper fillage, I have reviewed the listed entries:
- File:Royal Monogram of Princess Diana of Wales.svg This monogram is already correct. As the wife of the child of the monarch, her monogram contained the coronet portion of the Crown of a Child of a Sovereign--crosses with fleur de lis.
- File:Royal Monogram of Prince Alfred as Duke of Edinburgh.svg This has been changed to the full Crown of a Child of a Sovereign
- File:Royal Monogram of Empress Victoria of Germany as Princess Royal of Great Britain.svg This has been changed the full Crown of a Child of a Sovereign
- File:Royal Monogram of Princess Louise of Great Britain.svg This is already correct. The coronet is from the Crown of a Child of a Sovereign--crosses with fleur de lis.
- File:Royal Monogram of Prince Alfred as Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.svg I have changed this to a generic, common crown.
- File:Royal Monogram of The Duke and Duchess of Windsor.svg This coronet has been changed to that of a Child of a Sovereign--crosses with fleur de lis.
- File:Royal Monogram of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.svg This coronet has been changed to that of the Crown of a Child of the Heir Apparent.
- File:Dual Cypher of Prince William and Princess Catherine of Great Britain.svg This one will be changed. I'm going to re-do the entire image.
- File:Royal Monogram of Queen Mary (of Teck) of Great Britain.svg This is already correct. As the spouse of a sovereign, the coronet is the same as those used in the various sovereign crowns—crosses with fleur de lis.
--Glasshouse (talk) 00:28, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
- That's great work so far, Glasshouse – and my sincere thanks for finding the time for these corrections. However:
- File:Royal Monogram of Princess Diana of Wales.svg Diana was the former wife of the heir apparent. Shouldn't her coronet have a single arch?
- File:Royal Monogram of Princess Louise of Great Britain.svg shows a double-arched British sovereign's crown. It ought to be without arches. (Also, it might be nice to clarify which Louise this is.)
- File:Royal Monogram of Queen Mary (of Teck) of Great Britain.svg conversely shows no arches (child of sovereign) while she was a wife-of-sovereign (two arches). Or are arches omitted because the crown is 'slipped' around the monogram? † DBD 18:41, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
This goes back to what I stated earlier; "crown and coronet standards for monograms were not very strickly adhered to in European monarchies, including the UK." If you look at the source for Queen Mary's monogram, you'll see that it comes from a button of The Womens Royal Army Corps. And if you'll Google "Princess Diana Stationery" you'll see that she never used an arched coronet, though Camilla, as Duchess of Corwall, and spouse to the very same man, does. The rules are not set in stone.--Glasshouse (talk) 11:54, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
- Great stuff. We're done here. You have my thanks and I withdraw this deletion request. † DBD 15:04, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
