User talk:Yamanbaiia
Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which information may be missing. Thank you.

Hola! Cuando subes una imagen de Flickr, asegúrate que tiene las dimensiones originales. Un saludo -- RedCoat 14:26, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Hi there! I'd probably say that there's no need to revert the above picture. Commons policy would seem to indicate that the photo is fine (it's clearly been taken in a public place and doesn't defame the subjects), so I think it works fine without being cropped. If I were using the picture in an article, though, I'd probably prefer it to be cropped. Why not simply upload a cropped version and link to it with the other_versions=
switch? Esrever (klaT) 02:00, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
- The
other_versions
thing allows you to link other versions of the same image in the {{Information}} template. For example, let's say you upload a cropped version of Image:RupertEverett.jpg and call it "Image:RupertEverett cropped.jpg". In the {{Information}} template on the larger image, you'll see|other_versions=
(if you don't, add it). Change it to read|other versions=[[Image:RupertEverett cropped.jpg|100px]]
, then do the same thing on the cropped version (changing the image link to be a link to the larger version, of course). That will sort of "link" the two images, so people who find one can see that there's a different version of it available that might perhaps suit their uses better. Make sense? Cheers! [edit]Wow - thanks for fixing my brackets - really appreciate it. I'm exhausted - didn't notice that. I have been put on the literal "A List" for the festival, which means I get into a private room with only 5, 6 other photogs for the events, which means I have the opportunity to get really good shots. Uploading soon - Julianne Moore, Mariah Carey, Robert De Niro, Ben Kingsley.... Who knew free culture was so exhausting? --David Shankbone 02:32, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Dear Yamanbaiia,
Please forward your reply asap/immediately to Hollmarsh1@aol.com.
I found your scans of photos from two books (Lytton Strachey: A Biography (1967) by Michael Holroyd and Lytton Strachey, His Mind and Art (1957) by Charles Richard Sanders) at:
1. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:LyttonAndMarjorieStrachey.jpg
2. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:LyttonAndMarjorieStrachey.jpg
3. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:SomeBloomsburymembers.jpg
4. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:StracheysCarrington.jpg
while doing photo research for a textbook publisher on a project. I thought that these images might be appropriate for inclusion in a literature curriculum.
I am specifically seeking to confirm the sources listed in these books for the four photographs.
I would like to contact that party or museum/collection immediately. I work for a publisher who wishes to possibly publish the four images within their curriculum.
I look forward to hearing from you as quickly as possible; the publisher is eager to finalize images to be used.
Thank you,
Holly Marshall

Hello Yamanbaiia!
Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.
To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.
You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.
The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!

Questionable copyright claim
[edit]You have tagged a number of images (e.g. File:RogerSenhouse.jpg, File:DavidGarnett.jpg) with template:PD-US-no notice, but these images are described as being taken from the book Lytton Strachey: A Biography (1967) by Michael Holroyd. Are you asserting that this book was published without a copyright notice? That would be highly unusual for an experienced professional biographer. Just because there isn't a copyright notice next to the picture itself doesn't mean it isn't protected by the copyright for the book it is in. - JasonAQuest (talk) 19:53, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:RogerSenhouse.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:RogerSenhouse.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
