Thanks for uploading File:Badakhshan (Afghanistan) - 37153251680.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Amanullah Khan poster.jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Amanullah Khan poster.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Color changes
[edit]Hi, is there any reason you are adding what looks like a purplish tint to various files? The edits summaries say you are correcting the file's colors, but you seem to be just changing to an incorrect version different from the original. Zoozaz1 (talk) 15:45, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Zoozaz1: Hi. Apologies it was clearly a mistake. I made color corrections (in terms of making the subject appear clearer) but accidentally had a color tint filter on that I couldn't notice on my display at the time. Thanks for letting me know. I will have to do again without the weird tint. --Weaveravel (talk) 12:11, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
File:HeroinWorld-en.svg
[edit]I have made the change to File:HeroinWorld-en.svg.
SVG files are a breeze to manipulate. I use Inkscape to do them, which is a free download. Hogweard (talk) 12:16, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the change, and thanks for the tip. Are they really easy to perform? I recently uploaded this non-free city emblem (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Kabul_Municipality_logo.png), is that easily converted into vector? --Weaveravel (talk) 12:20, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
- Simple changes like dragging an object or moving a line or changing the colour of an object are the work of a moment. Starting afresh with a complex shape will take longer. The more you do it the easier you find it. I have been uploading a series of diocesan shields, for example, and the first ones I did years ago were pretty much flat shapes and colours, but as I did more and taught myself more, I refined them with graduated colours to give a 3D effect and did more complex shapes. I started with File:Diocese of Southwark arms.svg and got up to ones like File:Diocese of the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands arms.svg.
- You have to love the subject to take the time.
- Borrow work others have done to save time too.
- For the Kabul one, I will leave you to teach yourself! The main motif could be done by tracing the shape, or using Inkscape's "trace bitmap" function and then tidying it up. I'd do just one wing, and do it one section at a time, align the sections, group them and and copy and paste it to keep the shape symmetrical. The Persian text can be done as text if you have the right font, but is best then converted "Object to path", or just traced.
- The colours on the wing sections look as if are graduated, so you do one section in one colour, copy and paste it in the other colour, and use the "Create gradients" function to graduate between them.
- There is a lot to be learnt, and you only get that by trying.

[edit]I saw your request on the village pump about this file. Of which my answer was this:

- @FanNihongo: Thanks for making the effort anyway. Yes I too understand that making it in vector does not necessarily make it valid for Commons. In that case if you wanna make a good improvement you can edit the existing file and remove the background, make it transparent. I tried but failed to do it properly but if you have the best tools to make it accurate that would be good. --Weaveravel (talk) 11:18, 22 November 2021 (UTC)

Shri Asa'Mai Hindu Temple in Hicksville
[edit]Hi, After COVID delays, I finally made it out to Hicksville to photograph the Hindu temple you requested. The lighting was pretty bad, but on the plus side the trees were bare, so the building is more visible. I hope it is useful to you. Maybe there is a place for it on the Hicksville, New York article, it could certainly use some information about the diversity of the population.
- Thanks a bunch for these. They are certainly useful. --WR 15:23, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
- @Kzirkel: Although since I'm not from Hicksville or NY, there's only so much I can do. I have added the image to the Hicksville article, but someone else would be better suited to write about the diversity and communities over there. --WR 19:37, 9 March 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Afghanistan and Pakistan map (UN).png.
Thank you. |
