Thanks for uploading File:Ceremonia de apertura Pyeongchang 2018 03 (cropped).jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Ceremonia de apertura Pyeongchang 2018 03 (cropped).jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Thanks for uploading File:Warren 2020 logo 02.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Category:Colin_Powell_in_1981 has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Good day. What is your reason for removing "Category:Boston in the 1960s" from File:An_unidentified_man_with_US_Speaker_of_the_House_John_McCormack,_Massachusetts_Attorney_General_Eddie_McCormack,_Mayor_John_F._Collins_and_Mary_Collins_(10559360245).jpg? That describes the place and date of the photo, neither of which are covered in any of the other categories. Wondering, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 05:00, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

@Infrogmation: Because Category:John F. Collins belongs to this already. SecretName101 (talk) 06:19, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. (Seems a little strange that a person would only exist in one place for one decade.) -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 15:57, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
Place should be restored. Putting a person in a place category is just a shorthand because we lack a "people from" or "people lf" category in between. But with or without that middle category: it clearly isn't an "is-a" relationship and doesn't even mean "is always located in". This sort of thing is an exception to the overcat rule. Use common sense. - Jmabel ! talk 16:34, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
@Jmabel: @Infrogmation: We have hundreds of images of him. Nearly all of which are from Boston in the 1960s. We do NOT need to tag each and every image with that tag. He was mayor of Boston in the 1960s (holding office 1960-1968). Tagging his category with that should suffice. SecretName101 (talk) 18:41, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
But many, perhaps most images of John McCormack are not in Boston, they're in D.C. & elsewhere, and that's why it's relevant here. - 18:52, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
SOME are taken elsewhere, but nearly all are in Boston.SecretName101 (talk) 18:53, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
I also notice that at least one photo we have of Collins is not from the 1960s. Putting the person in a decade/place category seems inappropriate (except perhaps for some extraordinary case where say someone notable lived 10 or fewer years and never left that one place). -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 01:09, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
As he apparently lived into the mid 1990s, I see no reason to assume that no photos of him were taken after his time in office. Some such photos may make their way to Commons, if they haven't already. I've removed the decade/place category from the person. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 01:11, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
Feel free to create a category "John F. Collins in Boston in the 1960s" if you think that would be useful, but already not all media in Category:John F. Collins would accurately fit in it. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk)

Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2018 is open!

Dear SecretName101,

You are receiving this message because we noticed that you voted in R1 of the 2018 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in the second round. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2018) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked.

In the final (and current) round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2018.

Round 2 will end 17 March 2019, 23:59:59.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 18:05, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Barbara and George Bush (11440082454).jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:StopNSEERS - 1.jpg.

Thank you.

Question on Flickr photos for upload

First, thank you for uploading my photos from the Heartland Forum. Much appreciated! Do you have any feedback on how the fields are filled in within Flickr so that uploaded photo's Summary section are a bit more precise? Right now the Description is off saying "Please attribute to Lorie Shaull if used elsewhere." This should really be labelled as a Permission and the Description should be more related to the photo, like here: File:Amanda Boulier.jpg. In hindsight, I should have also included a location so that the location would have been added. I haven't yet used flickr2commons so I'm not sure how it works.Lorie Shaull (talk) 13:15, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Since I an not a Flickr uploader, I am uncertain as to any suggestions on how to optimize uploads for transfer with flickr2commons (aside from what you already touched on, a geo location being provided is always useful). However, I'd like to personally thank you for the many valuable images you have made available for use over the years. SecretName101 (talk) 16:09, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply and I appreciate the thank you very much. I'll try to do a little research to see if I can find a good, efficient solution. I sometimes upload directly to Wikimedia Commons but it takes a lot of time so finding a better way to label in Flickr would be ideal!Lorie Shaull (talk) 20:06, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Explain to me what is a block-wrothy offense of disruption? SecretName101 ([[User talk:SecretName101#top|int:Talkpagelinktext]]) 21:37, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
Commons is curated. That means it's not just a dumping place for every single image of a station you can find. 80-90% of the uploads of this set were either identical or near-identical to others in the set, blurry, completely useless, or redundant to existing images on Commons. That is true for every single mass flickr upload I see you do, because you just batch-upload the whole set rather than choosing what images are actually valuable.
Your categorization is improving, but it's not sufficient. If you intend to upload many images of Amtrak, you should gather enough knowledge to be able to identify common rolling stock, paint schemes, and train identities. Being able to categorize by those (which represent many of the use cases on Wikipedia) makes images vastly more useful. If you're not interested in doing that, then let someone else do the upload. Flickr has indicated that CC-licensed images are exempt from the caps, so they're not going anywhere.
Default flickr file names and descriptions are almost never sufficient - they need to allow someone without intimate familiarity of a topic to understand what a file depicts. That is particularly true for rail transport images (among other topics), where specific identification of station parts, rolling stock, and trains is needed for images to be useful. File:Albany-Rensselaer Station (47775488151).jpg could describe literally any image of that station (or its two predecessors), and would not be helpful for someone searching through the category. File:West platform at Albany-Rensselaer station, April 2019.jpg would be a useful and descriptive file name. Similar, you don't bother to change the default description from flickr. "Rensselaer, New York" is a completely useless description for any user. "The western island platform (serving tracks 2 and 4) at Albany-Rensselaer station in April 2019" is useful. The fact that you're doing this en masse makes the problem much, much worse - one badly named image of a station is still obviously the station, but 100 of them makes it very difficult to find one that depicts the part of the station you want to depict.
It takes a massive amount of work for others to do the curation after images are already uploaded. Even after deleting the obviously OOS and duplicate images, it will probably take me the better part of an hour to rename, categorize, and describe the images. Meanwhile (or if I wasn't here to clean up your mess), your mass-uploaded images clog categories and search results, making it more difficult for users to find useful images they actually want. It's akin to mass-creating unreferenced stubs on Wikipedia, a behavior unambiguously considered disruptive and block-worthy: just because some of what you're creating might be useful after others fix it, doesn't mean you're absolved of responsibility.
You are welcome to continue mass-uploading other flickr streams, though I ask that you increase your attention to curation. But Adam Moss's stream is particularly unsuited for mass upload due to the large numbers of files, highly mixed quality, many duplicates/redundancies, lack of descriptive names and descriptions on flickr, Adam and others already uploading most of the actually valuable images to Commons, and the need for detailed curation of rail transport images. My threat of a block was slightly premature, so let me phrase it this way: unless you are willing to put in the work of full curation, please stop uploading Adam Moss images. Your uploads thus far have been disruptive because of the very low signal-to-noise ratio. Pi.1415926535 ([[User talk:Pi.1415926535|int:Talkpagelinktext]]) 22:22, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
Template:Ping It appears to me you are holding your personal standards as though they are the guidelines and rules of the community. I will respect your request pertaining to Adam Moss photographs as a courtesy, but I am not convinced there is truly enough grounds for me to be obliged to do so. You seem to be mistaking your personal perception of "sub-optimal" for "disruptive". And you seem to be mistaking more helpful for prerequisite/'necessary. If you are going to put things in Category:Jeanne Kohl-Welles, you probably should create the category. - Jmabel ! talk 23:41, 28 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi SecretName101, I was wondering if there is a possibility to find out/check if the Judge could be Template:W. If positive, it would be great to have an image for the infobox. Thank you for your time. :-) Lotje ([[User talk:Lotje|int:Talkpagelinktext]]) 13:51, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
