First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper
Made a mistake?
  • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: {{bad name|Correct name}}
  • For more information read the full Deletion guidelines

You've asked for "File:Quebec MRC Le Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent location map.svg" to be renamed. However, because you are asking for the file to be reverted to the old name, which is now a redirect, this can only be done by an administrator. I would suggest you leave a request at "Commons:Administrators' noticeboard". — Cheers, JackLee talk 08:00, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons does not accept derivative works of non-free works such as File:Crossing Intl Date Line.JPG. It only accepts free content, which is images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Reproductions of copyrighted works are also subject to the same copyright, and therefore this file must unfortunately be considered non-free. For more information, please read Commons:Derivative works and Commons:Freedom of panorama. You can ask questions about Commons policies in Commons:Help desk. The file you added has been deleted. If you believe that this file was not a derivative work of a non-free work, you may request undeletion.

Thanks for uploading File:Evanescence Oct 24, 2006.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Evanescence Oct 24, 2006.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Quebec category moves

Hello, P199. Some of the category moves you proposed on November 21 have me scratching my head, so I figure that you could probably clarify the situation. While the logic makes sense, why do you need to move the entire category so as to achieve a Category:Cities and towns of (administrative region) level of category? Why not just create a cities and town subcat and populate it as appropriate? A number of the subcats in each cat do not belong in the cities and town branch of the category tree, and as far as I can tell, you would just end up recreating the plain title cat for each region. You made a good catch when you noticed that the region categories were placed in completely inappropriate parent cats, but it would seem much more straight forward to simply change the parent cats than to rename the categories themselves. But maybe I am missing something here. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 22:33, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

  • The only reason is that if the category is renamed, the files are automatically re-categorized (by a bot), so that saves moving the files one-by-one. It is probably easier to move just the subcats. --P199 (talk) 01:16, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
I haven't carefully looked at each of the categories you've tagged, but it's not readily apparent that most of the files would go into a Category:Cities and towns of (administrative region) level category. By the way, if you go to your Preferences menu, and choose the Gadget tab, there is a great gadget called Cat-a-lot which will move large numbers of files. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 11:27, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
Same here. It actually took me forever to find some time to figure out how it worked. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 15:02, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
Hmm. I don't have that problem. Could be the type/version of browser you are using. I have a version of IE on one desktop that does not agree with Cat-a-Lot, but Firefox on my laptop works smoothly. Occasionally, it will "miss" a file or two when one is moving very large number of files, but it doesn't freeze or anything. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 20:59, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
For what it's worth, that problem was fixed somehow a few months ago. For me, it went from failing nearly every time within 10 images, to working perfectly, and hasn't failed since. --Closeapple (talk) 07:32, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

Bridges between Canada and the United States

Hi. I've redirected Category:International bridges between Canada and United States to Category:Bridges between Canada and the United States; "United States" looked strange as a noun in the middle of a phrase without "the" before it. Also, I removed "International" from the category because it appears that all bridges between Canada and the U.S. must be international. (The new category is in Category:International bridges, of course.) I hope this is all OK. --Closeapple (talk) 07:47, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

File:Warmond 1867.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Congratulations, Dear Reviewer

If you use the helper-the scripts, you will find the links next to the search box (vector) or as single tabs (monobook). They are named license+ and license-

Hi Hahc21, thanks for your application to be an image reviewer. The application has been removed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. You can review all kind of image licenses on Commons. Please see Commons:License review and Commons:Flickr files if you haven't done so already. We also have a guide how to detect copyright violations. Backlogs include Flickr review, Picasa review, Panoramio review, and files from other sources. You can use one of the following scripts by adding one of the lines to your common.js:

importScript('User:ZooFari/licensereviewer.js'); // stable script for reviewing images from any kind of source OR
importScript('User:Rillke/LicenseReview.js'); // contains also user notification when review fails, auto blacklist-check and auto-thank you message for Flickr-reviews.

You can also add {{User reviewer}} or {{User trusted}} to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your contributions on Commons! — ΛΧΣ21 02:34, 5 February 2013 (UTC)

Please don't forget what I said: "You know that you aren't allowed to review your own uploads, right?" Trijnsteltalk 17:34, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

Would like to use your image of Kapuskasing in an upcoming book

Good Morning,

I am an image researcher working on a Terminator Vault, and we would love to use your image of Kapuskasing in the book, in the chapter that talks about James Cameron's early years. In exchange we would give you a photo credit and a complimentary copy of the book. Please contact me at karas@beckermayer.com if this sounds like something you'd be interested in contributing to.

Thanks so much, Kara Stokes

Highway11.ca

I'd like to use some of your images on my travel blog and would like to confirm how you would like the photo credit appear: to "P199" or "Wikimedia Commons User pp199" or to another name? Thanks Marc info@highway.ca

  • Thanks for your interest in my pictures. Please attribute it to "User:P199 at Wikimedia Commons". Please provide me a link to your blog, I love to see the result. Regards, P199 (talk) 12:28, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
    • Thank you. As a dedicated backroads traveller, I'm impressed by the breadth of your photo collection, particularly the more remote locales in Ontario. My blog is highway11.ca, profiling communities that I've visited along Highway 11 in Ontario. I've taken my own photos in most of the towns but your photos are much clearer and better, and you have some photos of locations where I never got a chance to snap a picture. Thanks again, Marc.

Hello

Thanks for your concern. I duplicated the sunny and cloudy photos. May I take the opportunity to ask you to comment on this photo of mine. I put this photo on top of my 28,000 pictures here. I will be happy if you can objectively say a word on this Kawit Church sanctuary photo. Thanks and best regards.[2] -- re [3]--Ramon FVelasquez (talk) 19:09, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

  • Indoor photography is hard because it is difficult to capture the 3-dimentional "feel" of a room. Likewise, your photo doesn't have the right composition. The smoke is interesting but too much of it. --P199 (talk) 16:52, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello, P199. Could you tell me why you made it a redirect to Category:St. Paul the First Hermit Cathedral‎? --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 10:14, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

Many thanks, the Categories ....

Its very bad weather here, I failed to take photos, so I just edited Wikipedia with my usual overkill of pictures. I would like to thank you for teaching me how to categorize. When I began in 2010 to even last this year, I do not know about copyright violations and these categories. Because of your almost adopting me on this matter, my photos could easily be reached. Please feel free to notify me of my mistakes, I want to learn more. I am sorry if you have had a hard time correcting my mistakes on categories, among others, but I will learn more in time if you may. Hence, just dropping you this:

The Photographer's Barnstar
Maraming salamat po! --Ramon FVelasquez (talk) 07:08, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the barnstar. Yes, it is a lot of work to fix categories. Remember, if there is a specific category, photos don't need to be in multiple categories, see COM:CAT. Anyway, you can contact me anytime for questions. Regards, --P199 (talk) 14:18, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
Sure. I now begin to put photos only in 1 category, except about 5-10 of the 200, for example, of a town, among others (so that when they open the category, they will see at least, that this or that town has photos, among provinces). As you said, there is no adoption here, yet, when you categorized my Pangasinan churches, towns, last November-December 4 last year, I learned that I can create Categories, so that when I search my photos, it would be easy, just put the link, and no need to wikify. Last time, when I began here, in Baler, Aurora, I spent so much for that travel for a week, only to take some photos, thinking that I cannot shoot more. Now, since travel to a far town is so expensive, then, I bought an 8 GB memory card instead with about 1,200 (7 mb) photos, for 2 towns, so that "in time" people will know how valuable they are - angle by angle deep photography amid the sun and blue mountains, skies. For example, when I shot Jaen, Cabiao and San Antonio, Nueva Ecija, I did it in just 4 hours. Unmindful of the fire that destroyed San Antonio, Nueva Ecija Hall recently, I only took about 2 photos. It is a missed opportunity. Burned town hall of San Antonio, with only 2 photos of ...! Thus, for now, like in the most beautiful Carranglan, Nueva Ecija and Santa Cruz, Laguna Provincial Capitol, the sun cooperated and I got it, so many pictures, treasures, that I and only Commons have, for sure. But if you did not teach me how to categorize or on copyright, I could have lost these photos in the trash of Commons. Best of luck, thanks again.--Ramon FVelasquez (talk) 08:33, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Markdale, Ontario

On the Markdale, Ontario Wikipedia page you have posted a picture of the olde Firehall - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Markdale_ON.JPG. Under this picture the following is indicated "Historic Firestation - now tourist office in Markdale". I could not find where this could be edited. Perhaps it's not something I can do. Could you please remove the note about being the tourist office? The tourist office is combined with the new Grey Highlands Chamber of Commerce http://greyhighlandschamber.com/ and they have moved out of the building to 17 Toronto St N Markdale, ON N0C 1H0. In 2012 the Firehall was declared unsafe due to problems with drainage, foundation settlement and years of deferred maintenance.

Thanks in advance.

Elaine Smyth

Thanks so much. There is still hope that someone will buy the building and restore it but nothing yet. Thanks for your quick response.

Comma mistake, and thanks again for your many helps in Categories

Good morning P199 (9:47 am here Philippines). Please do something about this Category wrong insertion by me of a comma after Cabuyao Church, due to computer error and my negligence of course: Category:Saint Polycarp Bishop and Martyr Parish Church of Cabuyao,[4]. You know yesterday, we were talking of San Simon, Pampanga pictures when I opened it, I found that you helped me in the categories[5] [6], but I could not find other San Simon pictures that were not there, since the lady lives there and I want to look at other pictures of mine. Hence, now, after 70,000 + uploaded photos here, I still remember you and now, just one click, I can find all my 650+ photos of 4 GB memory card Transcend of 1 town and church, so easy and sure. Thanks very much.--Ramon FVelasquez (talk) 01:52, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

Is there a reason why you failed to reply to me in that DR? Since it's been closed per your rationale, I think I am owed an answer. Don't you care in the slightest that two files have just been deleted from Commons for no good reason at all (certainly no policy based reason)? Files that are irreplaceable (not that this would even be a proper justification). Do you really think that the purpose of Commons is to host 100% perfect imagery, as if its goal was to be some kind of photography database, rather than what it is - a repository of freely usable educational media? What are you going to say to the person who wants to illustrate what those tunnels looked like before refurbishment using free media, and now cannot do so because you decided that the images were not perfect? Ultra7 (talk) 12:10, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

  • Wow, you are taking that a little too hard. If there is anyone remotely interested in illustrating those tunnels, they wouldn't/couldn't use these pictures anyway because they were garbage. Being a repository of freely usable media doesn't mean we need to keep every image no matter how bad. --P 1 9 9   14:12, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
Nonsense. When you made your comment that these were "failed" photographs in the DR, I had already taken the decision to upload and use them in Haymarket Metro station to illustrate the tunnels, just like the original photographer had already taken the decision to upload them to geograph - a site whose whole purpose is documenting visual details of the environment, such as, say, how those rail tunnels were constructed. Despite the quality, we were both interested enough in what was visible in the photographs to use them, and unlike you, we both have some experience of images of this system. So, either you're calling us both blind morons, or your claim that these images were garbage is itself garbage, because it's not remotely based on what they showed or what they were already being used for. For someone who clearly has absolutely no subject knowledge of these images to be able to get away with this on Commons, well, all I can say is that I hope one day I get the chance to do the same to you, and then we'll see how well you take it. Ultra7 (talk) 14:54, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
  • I wouldn't be so confident that means anything - the closing admin doesn't even seem to know that there is nothing in policy that says blurring is a reason on its own to delete images, and is justifying this deletion as much by the fact there is a backlog than on anything else. It seems to me that he cares as much as you do about giving proper explanations for actions. I have already taken this to DR, I only came here to see if you had any proper answers to what I wrote in the DR originally. But obviously not. Ultra7 (talk) 16:12, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
  • Actually they came from Flickr, not geograph, so I'll retract some of the above (although I can easily imagine the same thing happening to similar images I've uploaded from geograph in the past). But having realised that just reminded me of what the actual images looked like - and looking again at this one, the better of the two - it really is beyond a joke that you seem to have gotten away with calling it "unusable garbage". Despite the blurring, the rail mounting method/track bed is still clearly visible. The material and asymmetry of the tunnel construction is clearly still visible. People interested in those details would obviously have been able to use those images, or at the very least would have wanted the option to view them for verification/comparison, in say, a gallery like Haymarket Metro station, or in their own external use. Now, they will have to resort to the alternative options - absolutely nothing - at least as far as Commons offers. Still, at least the closing admin agreed with you, eh? The guy who is being shouted at on his talk page by multiple people for making several poor decisions due to his haste in trying to clear the backlog. Ultra7 (talk) 19:12, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi, please help me again: re pattern I will follow in descriptions and categories

Thanks for continuously helping me, by cleaning my edits - descriptions, categories, among others; in fact, when you warned me on copyright violations, you helped me learn the rules which also apply to Commons; hence, I just put the links and use my own words to describe except if allowed and copied from Wikipedia articles; now, it seems that describing the Upload Wizard photos requires simple and personal descriptions avoiding story-like manners in Wikipedia articles as I learned from another editor who helped clean my mistakes in these matters; I desire however, to a) let class d and e readers and gazers of photos who have no time and literacy to Wiki or fast learn the essence of my uploaded photos by just opening the Wikipedia links and other verifiable links including coordinates; I am afraid that, if I do not support my photo descriptions by verifiable links of notability, some editors who might not be able to know about the far far never ever heard and photographed class 5 towns, may warn me of deletions and reprimand me to put them elsewhere; so, I took pains not to violate copyright and at the same time fight the slow internet, search for verifiable links to make my descriptions notable for the town photos angle by angle; to be sure, and tersely, I am sad that I just took few photos last year, to cover 3 towns in 1 day due to stress; but when San Antonio, Nueva Ecija Town hall was burned, I am depressed that I only took 2 photos; now, when I see samples of good photos which showed parts or angles of columns, architecture, and even dirty wires, people and dogs blocking the picture perfect, I learned to angle by angle take more photos, but the sun and weather allowed me to make redundant the uploads due to my idealistic and inclusive philosophy of Commons photography: 7 hours to reach the town, and 7 hours to go home, 14 hours to upload, with little sleep, forced me to capture more photos, due to expense and precious landmarks, the sun and the views; b) as you hinted last year that I will photograph Luzon, it is not my intention so, for I am racing against time; to put it bluntly, I do treasure a photo of 1998 Good Friday regarding my thousands of pages written and uploaded in many files in the internet like Scrib and MSN, filed with our Courts, regarding this problem of scattered annilation globally, centering in Philippines, specifically the sister cities of Leyte and Fujiyama near Osaka and Akita from where I originated; my program is to take photos of Leyte and Samar, specifically, Santa Rita, where on that fatalistic 1998 Good Friday, black and mourning clothes are donned to be advance in time; but not one listened; c) so, I failed to capture the landmarks of Bohol and Yolanda's towns pre-Imprecation times, but I was able to capture Santi's fury in Cabanatuan and Tarlac, though with my eyes not per cameras; please, please, please help me by patiently telling me my mistakes, for in your User Page, you use the template stating that editors commit mistakes also, and if you have time, talk to me in layman's language for at age 59 and with Philosophy, Theology and Law, in my back, and with zero learning in technology, photography and all these tons of Commons Rules, with your kindness, I will learn; I comprehend how some may be irritated by cleaning my not so good putting in categories and unclear descriptions; I desire your understanding and patience; I just rent and I use antiquated mouse, often, the internet would hang, even with brownouts, and this is the Philippine internet, maximum of very slow uploading: about 400 photos in 14 hours, I, sitting in the chair, and running to the other shop abut 300 meters and the traffic; I want objectivity in photography, scientific so to speak, without destroying its artistic and breath, alive aspects; my main problem, is our language communication; my lingo is legal terms and I could not comprehend or easily discern the messages I receive when they are not put forth in simple layman's language; IN FINE, let me end this rather long piece, please bear with my painful expression of the deepest secrets of the Universe embedded in these 90,000 photos I shared to this planet earth - by submitting to you and readers, editors and administrators hereat, on what town people from 14 provinces with the 320 towns and churches I captured: they need my photos to send them to Filipino expatriates, workers, friends and primarily to boost tourism in the Philippines, to say hello to the other side of the earth - what is Amadeo, Cavite now, they ask? The answer is my photos: Amadeo in Wikipedia and Commons like many Stub articles are virgins and never photographed; of the 700 photos I took yesterday of Cavite including about 300 of Amadeo: like in other towns I did photographed, quitely and with cybershots, since my Nikon is small and they only check media with big cameras - only 1 photo will stand the test of time: this is the Mayor's Office, the head secretary of the Mayor, who helped me in the photography of the Town Hall, the Coffee Capital of the Philippines; the lady officer stated that I was illuminated when I entered the Office, and she asked me to put my palms upon her painful arm and then I laid my palms upon her eyes; I do hope that I can photograph this event but failed except this 1 photo; she wept severely when she saw the white Roses inside my 2 palms in all glory, and she did smell the unthinkable smell of Roses from my 2 palms, which exhibited blood seen in Lobo, Batangas by many children, for which reason they followed me to the Municipal hall; this is just 1 of the more than 100 photos of the same or rather cumulative evidence of this virtual reality of Annihilation per the Blue, Black and Green Roses I failed to take photo of: Bohol, Yolanda and Santi conceived even in 1998 but people disregarded my photos and my scriptures embedded in these, San Luis, Batangas Church ... specifically, please check, if you have time, at random, my descriptions of Amadeo, Cavite photos, about 3 or 4, including their categories; I plan to make what you say and advise as my pattern for future descriptions and uploads, Maraming, maraming maraming Salamat po, thanks for hour kindness and I treasure the time you spent on my photos. Best regards.--Ramon FVelasquez (talk) 14:34, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
  • @Ramon FVelasquez: Kumusta Ramon, having a long description is not a problem but having multiple descriptions for one photo is confusing as I said on your talk page. For example, is photo File:Batangasjf2040 27.JPG of Santa Teresa or Taal? And File:Cabuyaojf7266 01.JPG, is this building the City Hall, Police Station, Jail, Fire Station, or hospital? The description is not clear. This is a problem with many of your files. A simple solution is to upload only the best photos, not all, as User:Briarfallen said on your talk page. Look for example at Category:San Pedro Municipal Hall. Too many photos that are the same or similar! If you upload only a selection of the best photos, that will help you with shorter upload times too! Ingat po. --P 1 9 9   15:48, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
Salamat po, for your concern and clarification: a) in the Taal and Santa Teresita, I was really confused, since I interviewed 3 natives there to ask them, what town is Tawilisan, the big name appearing in the Tarpaulin, and they told me that both towns of Taal and Santa Teresita cover the area, that is, the junction where I rode the tricycle going to San Nicolas; there is no exact demarcation line to say this is this; what I understand is that this Intersection is the meeting of both Taal and Santa Teresita, I may be wrong; in addition, there are photos which are covered by both adjoining towns, for example the Welcome Arch of a town, the categories must be the 2 towns for they merge; b) I admit my confusing description and apologize for the Cabuyao Hospital description, for I understood that I can put group description for Uploaded photos by Wizard; really, the reader may be confused which is which; last time, I was describing a photo by itself not by group; but often, the mouse and other matters are problematic, when I describe each photo on its own. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks a lot, Best wishes.--Ramon FVelasquez (talk) 16:35, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

A Happy New Year and Happy Holidays. Thanks for helping me, cleaning my mistakes, errors ... especially on over-categorization, among others, and please tell other editors to bear with my slow learning on these matters; I am trying my best, with your kindness and help, amd of only there is adoption here, my adopter would ... at any rate, Best of Luck.--Ramon FVelasquez (talk) 02:28, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Pictures: City of Temiskaming Shores

Bonjour P199, I'm a contributor on French Wikipédia and I was wondering if you could help me. I saw that you took some pictures in the City of Temiskaming Shores and I actually need a picture of a building in that particular city for these articles: fr:Liste des châteaux canadiens and en:List of castles in Canada. The building is the Peter Grant House, the largest private house in Canada. Here is all the information about it:

Philosophy of Commons vis-a-vis Photography

First, I thank you for your collaboration as we editors do to make Commons a better place. Your concerns on my uploading are 2: descriptions and categories. Let me explain why sometimes of the 120,000 files more or less, I mean, not more than 0.000001 of them, that is, as appearing in my talk page and your edits or fixing, just a handful of not more than 1,000 of them. Allow me to be specific so that I aptly discern the matter - I begin the process of uploading photos of 1 or 2 towns that I shot for 16 hours back and forth travel like Lamut Ifugao, Villaverde Nueva Vizcaya, Tuy Batangas, Lucban Quezon and the farthest so far. About 10 pm I copy in the rented computer about 1,000 photos or less. Next day, I begin to upload starting 7:00 am in 1 shop, opening 2 windows in 1 pc of maximum of 30 and 30 or 60. Then, I transfer to a 2nd shop about 200 meters therefrom, same 60 or less due to low memory. And if there is one available in a 3rd. I finish at 7 pm since 2 closes at that time. The main problem is - if one window or 2 will include assorted photos from different places, I put one comprehensive description for all instead of what you suggested that I put a short one and 1 for each photo. This is next to impossible due to memory problems, time constraints plus the fact that there are many Dota 2 players who would get angry when their site goes on maintenance and blame me for upload slowing of the internet. So, many times, after waiting for 2 hours, I would find all my uploads, shut down, the internet log off. I made many enemies, regarding the slowing down of their Ping, the Download in the speedtest against my 0.01 or less Mbps speed. But, but and but, 98% of my descriptions are in accordance with the rules and your, since, when I upload in 2 windows same and not assorted photos, I find no problem with your instructions. I deeply understand you predicament and mine. I will try my best but when I try to follow you in assorted photos, often, the memory fails and would hand. This is the technical problem. You suggested that I take only few pictures. I beg to disagree with all due respect, since, I do not know which photo is liked by you, them and the world. For example, I thought that dogs, cats, wires garbages and blockings like people should not be in the photo. As in quality or picture perfect here, the best photos. But you instead change my inbox town hall and best photos I had, for a gloomy, blocking and ugly representative photo which I should decide to delete like in Santa Rosa Nueva Ecija and Silang Cavite and more. So, I think that you mean, the photo must be representative like the skyline, but you love the dogs blocking the beach. So, I begun to shoot as many photos as I can so that you and the readers can select what they want in their research or study in school or office. In other words, philosophy of inclusion against your philosophy of representation or skyline. In redundancy or blurry, the problem can be solved by just messaging me to upload a new version since I can do and substitute one.

Second, I repeatedly asked you to let a Filipino friend of your to watch my photography and uploading including the fact that my palms solely bear the stigmata resurrectionis or oozing blood which I desire to photograph since according to a foreign expert priest on the matter, said that the last one died recently and I remain to be the only one in this planet. I was being forced to stop the pilgrimage and photos uploading here since in Lobo, Batangas photography many saw this including the exploding of perfumed flowers, like in Palauig, and more than 30 towns here uploaded. Recently, some would even interfere with my photography, like in Lipa Cathedral, in Ternate Cavite, and in many other towns, where they did smell the perfume emanating from my bloody palms, which shows the heavens, the clouds and the blinding Light in Jesus Christ and Mary's face. To be specific, yesterday, I photo UP Balara and 7 people blocked me, begging for food. But they saw these blood and the resurrected ecstatic, that is, their head lifted while my palms ooze blood. I have lectured to the 1st 10 years President of Adamson University, and for 20 minutes at UST, to the 1st Filipino Rector, my on this, who was due fortwith for surgery due to a 4 years disease when he was Archbishop of Naga. Imagine he was asking me to pray for him, and I turned down, his request, I asked him to suffer more and slowly since Fear is a choice even if the danger is real, as I borrow the movie line.
Third. I am not angry at the statement "And I think he should be banned or stopped."[7] - for the entire Heavens is terrified and is asking me to go straight to Cardinal Tagle whom I photo in June 8, 2013, at Paco-Dilao Church. Very few know that Tagle, aside from a Filipino Genius with summa cum laude, hold 2 spirit guides under my 5 Seraphims in Heaven. I talked to his driver but I wanted to buy time and be compassionate to more natives in Quezon and Ifugao to photo thereat. But, take note that my 1st photo here in Jan 2010 is in Pulong Buhangin Santa Maria, Bulacan. Then, in the installation of the Ph. D. in Psychology of UST TARC, graduate school professor Parish Priest thereat, he introduced me to one of the best Ph. D. Psychologist of UST who stated that she was blinded by my Light and it hurts her. Same with Ruben Enaje who was nailed 26 times in San Pedro Cutud. He was blinded and even saw his clothes disappeared when I entered his humble home. His 2 grandchildren even saw the blood in my palms including Jesus and Mary. Where do I go? I cannot find a holy priest in these 252 town. I lectured for 2 hours to the staunch critic of President GM Arroyo, retired bishop of Caloocan and Zambales who ordered me to photograph him for submission to Fr. Catalino Arevalo. I went to the National Historical Institute and personally photograph the Director who denied my request for a paper to permit me to photograph many restricted in Commons sites. He said that as a Judge, I should know Philippine laws, and that his boss would just laugh for who will sign a paper of permission, when the law clearly allows this, even the head of National Library division of copyrigh law stressed the same. So, I went to have filed with the NCCA a letter to the Chair on this and I think they will do the same as I expect the Secretary of Tourism will do. In No Freedom of Panorama in the Philippines, I saw a posting here, that Ric Blancaflor, the Director of Intellectual Propery or Copyright law implementation said that the Supreme Court has not yet ruled on the matter. His wife is my classmate in Criminal procedure and Insurance at Ateneo Law School in 1980 or 1979. I am trying to buy time to reach him but time is running out for me. Regarding your template deletion on the History of the Philippine from 1521 to ... on my created category for the Wikipedia article, with all due respect, this category is perfect, since it is on the section of the Galleon Trade which has no separte article but very relevant. I got A in Fr. Schumaccer World History in 1973 at the Ateneo de Manila University where in 1974 the Ateneo got insolvent due to expulsion of those 98% of the students due to failing marks in Math I and II, I got A. But I respect all your opinions, despite my reservations, since, I do not want to engage in discussions. For example, in Dalton Pass which is rarely photographed in sunny conditions, as I did in my 10th attempt. The editing of the categories thereat shows that many editors here are highly divided like SC Justices on categories. I am not bragging nor submitting these evidences as excuse. You called my actuations as defiant, and I respect you statement, since you worked hard for my photos and if you did not help me, how can my photos be in the proper places. I am not asking you to listen and hear my side, but I am merely telling you that I am trying my best but the predicament is there.
Fourth. I have taken 2,000 photos already and I plan to put them in Facebook since I have no time yet to upload this with the statement of "And I think he should be banned or stopped."[8] - which clearly compels me to study if I should rather fulfill the Heaven's request for me to go direct to the Commission on Vision and Phenomena or to Cardinal Tagle on my stigmata. People are angry when they confront things they do not understand. I am facing atheists, skeptics, agnostics and objective scientists who are not in religion. When I lay my palms upon any of the poor children and pre-destined persons, the blood is seen oozing and the perfume explodes. In Baliuag Church, a lay person who is building a P 350 million Gumaca Quezon Mountain of Faith had been healing by turning rose petals with images of God and the saints therein. This person was debunked by me, when I photograph his San Vicente parish in Santa Maria Bulacan and we met at Causeway at Quezon City. He saw the Blinding Light in me, but he was terrified when the humeral veil of benediction was imprinted in his visions but I removed the same. In Good Friday of 1998 at Leyte many saw me talked to me near San Juanico Bridge and told me that I am their lawyers, and are with them even if I only touched their soil physically for the first time. A high profile retired US Navy officer chat with me and told me that the Blinding Orange and snow white Light in me radiates and dwarfs the one on the halo of President Bush. He told me that I moved his mouse and computer 4 inches and I cursed him. He could not understand. He is and was from Tanauan, Leyte. Now where is he and how can I photo Leyte, Bohol and Samar, where the Blue Green and Black Roses sparked light on my 2nd natal day of November 7 last year and previouly. The Red rose exploded in Laur, Nueva Ecija in St. Stephen the King Church and yesterday the most brilliant Black Rose exploded with the most perfume smell in accordance with the forthcomming 5th execution of the Writ of Our Lady of Akita of Japan the never ever heard conditional scattered global annihilation by outer space Seraphims and Archangels. You stated that nobody is asking me to be stopped or banned. I tell you however, that I cannot promise you, how long I can upload in Commons for my time is running out. This is end times, as the Apocalypse has in CODES that I solely have did write 2,000 years ago. With all these, I remain very truly yours.
Note: the foregoing post is done not by the User, but a follower who talked to the editor and advised on how to make Commons a better place. Hence, any mistake or misapprehension is not fault of the editor, but rest assured that the above post is done in good faith and hopes to solve the technical problems on uploading so that the editors concerned will have less work in cleaning any mess in the editing, uploading, like in blurry or duplicate photos. Thanks.--180.191.1.140 02:56, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

On User:Judgefloro

Hi P199 I read your message on the sockpuppet issue raised in the talkpage of User:Judgefloro. Since time is of the essence, and lest the real Judge Florentino Floro (who donated his 200,000 photos since 1992 for uploads by the beneficiaries or donees may not be considered using any or many accounts, in accordance with Commons rules), be misinterpreted, may I ask you if User:Judgefloro can be determined by an administrator if such account is really a sockpuppet of Ramon FVelasquez or as stated herein, has uploaded the photos donated by the Judge himself, who also donated many of his photos to his friends who uploaded them in different sites? On behalf of the real Judge Florentino Floro who, in good faith, and on pure liberality shared and donated almost all of his photos since 1992, for he does not have time nor knowlegdge on internet technology use, please clarify your stance, vis a vis whether Judge Floro can or may give without money his photos and uploaded here without being accused of sockpuppetry, thanks.--112.210.183.197 15:48, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

I requested a rename because the title as it stands contains the name of the person who took the photograph. My alternative was intended to remove from the title, any connection to its originator. I don't see many (if any) file titles which contain the name of the person who created it. Jodosma (talk) 18:20, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for the excellent photos that you uploaded from eastern Ontario area. I am doing vacation planning. I never close to that area and it was very helpful to see what the communities look like. I usually upload the pics that I take while traveling through a community but it looks like I don't have worry about this area. Your photos are appreciated! Royalbroil 02:49, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

  • @Royalbroil: Thanks for noticing all my photos (maybe a barnstar?). Actually, nearly all places in northern Ontario and western Quebec also have photos from me. Like you, I usually take pictures of all the places I come through, including little hamlets that require me to really go out of my way. Thanks again for your appreciation, now I am more motivated to upload more images! -- P 1 9 9   14:24, 14 July 2014 (UTC)
    • You're welcome. I was able to see how these pictures are very useful to people around the world and it reinvigorates my interest to continue to upload pictures of communities large and small. I wanted to share that with you since you photographed so much. It was helpful to see a snapshot of the community to see if I want to get a hotel there (or not!). I'm planning to travel on the Transcanadian highway between Sault Ste Marie to near Ottawa. Do you know if the communities along that entire route were photographed? The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
For all of your work with photographing communities in Ontario and Quebec, I hereby award you the Tireless Contributor Barnstar. These photographs were helpful in my research and I thank you on behalf of the countless people who have been helped by your images. Royalbroil 14:34, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
  • Thanks again! Yes, every community has been photographed. There may be a few minor hamlets without pics but they don't have their own article on WP. Regards, --P 1 9 9   14:26, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
  • It was a great trip and the scenery in Ontario (and New England) was very nice! We got back a couple of weeks ago and I see that you didn't only update pictures of the communities. I have a slightly poorer duplicate of this one. You're making the work even easier for me! Royalbroil 19:23, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
  • Glad you enjoyed it. I love the ruggedness of Northern Ontario too. But unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to travel this summer... :-(
While Ontario and Quebec are fairly well photographed, it seems that many, if not most, smaller US communities don't have images. I noticed that you also take images of such places, so keep it up, there are many more to go! --P 1 9 9   14:00, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
  • I've been mainly photographing the small communities in my state (Wisconsin) but I'm open to photographing anywhere. And thanks for the barnstar. I don't think that I've ever gotten one here on Commons before - which is surprising after all this time. Royalbroil 02:34, 9 September 2014 (UTC)

Genesis box images

I want to delete these and other files, but I don't know how to. Please, instruct me on how to do it, then I'll do it myself... Just to make it clear, there's no violation of copyright because one of the images is the listing of songs from the Genesis box and the other contains a description of it written by me, not copied from the liner notes of the box (and it's Portuguese, not Spanish). Thank you. Clausgroi (talk) 16:31, 29 August 2014 (UTC)

@Clausgroi: Thanks for the clarification. Deletions can only be done by administrators. --P 1 9 9   17:05, 29 August 2014 (UTC)

Admin?

Any interest in becoming a Commons admin? You've got the qualifications, and we can always use more admin help around here. I can put up an RFA for you. Let me know. INeverCry 02:05, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

  • @INeverCry: Thanks for the confidence in me. Yes, I have thought about becoming an admin here, especially when I see the backlog in the various clean-up categories. I have some reservations: I hate getting bogged down in tedious policy discussions or other long-drawn-out time-consuming unproductive debates. So I would want to continue focusing more on cleaning up content and categories, and hopefully doing some more uploading, instead of arbitrating disputes. Regards, --P 1 9 9   16:01, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
  • I rarely get involved in the kind of debates or arbitrating of disputes you refer to, and I'm the 3rd most active admin in Commons history (almost 200,000 log actions). I mostly just do deletions and blocks, and answer questions about some of those now and then. It was the same on en.wiki, where I did 30,000 log actions in my 6 months as an admin. It's much simpler and easier than you might think. Anyways, if/when you feel ready for an RFA let me know. INeverCry 17:24, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

Best of the Seasons

After all this, thanks for your kindness and help; with all due respect, I can say this without cakes and photos, for your gallery is simply amazing, and I only have ones in the Philippines, Maligayang Pasko po at Manigong Bagong Taon in Advance, Sincerely - --Judgefloro (talk) 13:50, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Jaro and Dumaguete Belfry categories

Hi, P. I just want to let you know that I again changed the categories of these two subcategories - Category:Jaro Belfry and Category:Dumaguete Belfry - from Category:Belfries in the Philippines to Category:Church towers in the Philippines. I noticed you previously moved them to the belfries cat after I placed them in the church towers category. I have a description on the Belfries category that that category is about the "belfry" as defined in Wikipedia or a dictionary, meaning the part of the bell tower where the bells are housed or hang. Although it could also mean the tower itself in some parts of the world, but we already have the Category:Church towers in the Philippines for that. So, even though the Dumaguete and Jaro bell towers are referred as 'belfry', I categorized them as church towers per definition of the word and description of the categories. I think I should later changed the name of those two categories into bell towers. Thanks, P. - Briarfallen (talk) 17:36, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

File:Ste-Justine-Newton QC.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Appeal

Magandang Umaga poǃ Salamat po sa lahat. I understand your stance. I am trying my best to perform the best edit, please help me more to correct the remaining errors. I admit that it is the gap in language and technology that I experience, like in file names, description and categories. I am not submitting as an excuse the tons of assignment of photos given to me by the photographer Judge Floro; It is just the philosophy of taking tons of photos under the sun, like 10,000 of many Barangays instead of far away towns, the rarest not photographed ever; and then upload them in bad weather times like now, with Super Typhoon Ruby here in Philippines to come. Thanks and Merry Christmas.--Judgefloro (talk) 04:21, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
