Image dates

[edit]

Thanks for the heads up, I appreciate it. I think I either copy and pasted the previous image template I uploaded and forgot to change the dates, or the author corrected them (as he is currently uploaded higher resolution versions of some of the images). Anyway, I fixed the three occurrences. I want to thank you for all of the corrections and categories you have created based on the images I've uploaded, I see you in my watchlist all the time! Feel free to point out any other errors I make, I know they always sneak in especially with the number of images that are uploaded. Thanks again! --Happy editing! Avis

Salut, que penses-tu de Special:Contributions/EE55. En gros il charge des photos d'un photographe mort en 1986 (si on en croit fr:Henri_Jean-Baptiste_Félix_Boudin). Suppression immédiate ou AfD ? Merci, Nakor (talk) 03:44, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Categorisation

[edit]

Why are you re-categorising my Miss America images like that? It's extremely frustrating because previously you could go to Category:Miss America titleholders and see all the photos available of Miss America titleholders. With what you're doing, you'd have to click on each individual name and are unable to see the photo collectively. Can you please stop what you're doing? I set up the categories as they were for a reason and I'm not very happy about what you've done because you're creating a lot of work for me to undo! Waste of time for both of us. Why? None of these images have the Studio Harcourt as a topic; it's only their source. So topic categories should be applied to those images (such as the category of the portrayed person), and making the source category hidden helps identifying images lacking those. It's the same as Category:Images from the Library of Congress or other user categories. –Tryphon 11:21, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the page now falsely states that the permission is below when it's really over the note. Is there a reason you reverted to that revision? I thought my edit summary was clear. Hekerui (talk) 23:06, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Of course it refers to the license. This is the order automatically given when the Flickr upload bot uploads an image, and the language makes no sense otherwise. And people are able to read two boxes at the same time. Regards Hekerui (talk) 07:46, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Photos de Laurent Bordier

[edit]

Salut,

Please do not edit how I choose to list myself as source

[edit]

I choose, quite deliberately, not to use {{Own}} on my photos. Reused photos are often miscredited simply to "Wikipedia" or "Wikimedia Commons". I try to minimize that by explicitly listing myself as the source of my photos. There is nothing inaccurate about that listing, and I ask you please not to alter it, as you did at [2]. - Jmabel ! talk 18:35, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yet another complaint

[edit]

[3] - License template was nested inside {{Information}} for a reason. To protect license tag from accidental deletion. Every now and then, trailing license templates are accidentally overwritten or removed when good faith editors change categories, add geocoding etc. I sure did it and then saw files deleted for my errors and nothing else.

So the point is - license tags should stay in a safe place. NVO (talk) 11:59, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The picture of Peter Robinson at Solon du livre de Paris

[edit]

Bonjuor Okki, We would like to use the picture of Peter Robinsson from Salon du livre de Paris as a front page to our commersial book club magazine. I have problems understanding the license. Can you help me? Is it free to use and what do we have to add about the copyright? Best wishes! /Helena

Yes, all my pictures are under a free licence, and you can use them for any purpose (websites, books...). The only thing I ask, is that my name and the license are properly specified somewhere : Georges Seguin (CC-BY-SA). Thank you. Okki (talk) 12:33, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your answer. How do I specify the licence? Should I insert this text somewere in the magazine with your name in it?: Copyright (c) YEAR YOUR NAME. Permission is granted to copy, distribute and/or modify this document under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 or any later version published by the Free Software Foundation; with no Invariant Sections, no Front-Cover Texts, and no Back-Cover Texts. A copy of the license is included in the section entitled "GNU Free Documentation License".

CC-BY-SA is a diminutive for Creative Commons Attribution Share-alike. For me, Georges Seguin (CC-BY-SA) is enough. Creative Commons licenses are much simpler to use than the GFDL. Okki (talk) 13:17, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Female writers from the United States has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

[edit]

Bonjour

Okki (talk) 16:15, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour Okki, Bon tout cela me semble bien compliqué!

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!

[edit]
2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

The 2013 Picture of the Year. View all results »

Dear Okki,

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

  • In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
  • In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

  1. 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
  2. In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
  3. In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

We also sincerely thank to all 4070 voters for participating and we hope you will return for next year's contest in early 2015. We invite you to continue to participate in the Commons community by sharing your work.

Recreating deleted categories

[edit]

Hello. Why are you recreating categories that have been deleted after being nominated for discussion? I don't understand why you think each of these files needs it's own category. Why not wait till we have two files to categorise? FredWalsh (talk) 00:32, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nobody has participated in these discussions. In the category of a person, we can put subcategories for her date and place of birth, people by name... without ending up with a lot of loose photos in these categories. It's also easier to categorize future media or to indicate the category on Wikidata and having a Commons link on other projects like Wikipedia. Finally, I see only advantages to having a category per person rather than having a large number of photos in a parent category. Okki (talk) 00:48, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
