Image Tagging Image:Sarah_Brightman.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Sarah_Brightman.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-2.5 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. —LX (talk, contribs) 10:34, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT (talk) 06:12, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Picture of the Year 2013 R1 Announcement
[edit]Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement
[edit]Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!
[edit]- ⧼Wikibase-terms/Lockal⧽: Deutsch, Ελληνικά, English, français, magyar, italiano, македонски, 日本語, русский, svenska
Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:
- 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
- In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
- In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

[edit]Hi, Lockal, I noticed your edit on wikidata and was wondering if if you could do something about the template:Antoin Roux, as it is rather confusing with the birth dates, may you could in the meantime fill in the alternative names. I am not very familiar with the wikidata procedures. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 18:19, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
Why did you removed a lot of my good uploads?
[edit]With text "This file is ONLY published under a license that does not allow unrestricted commercial use. Under Commons licensing policy, files must be published under at least one license which permits unrestricted commercial use.", but the source license is Creative Commons BY-SA 4.0 Vitaly Zdanevich (talk) 15:34, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Vitaly Zdanevich: Hi, unfortunately, for 2032 it is clearly stated that license is not CC-BY-SA 4.0, it is CC-BY-NC 3.0 [1]. It is a common misconception that all Creative Commons licenses are open-source, but CC-BY-NC 3.0 isn't. Wikimedia Commons disallows creative works with NC mark, and the fact that "Автор также даёт согласие и на любое коммерческое использование произведения в тех случаях, когда оно не является основным источником прибыли" does not help, because it is still non-commercial. Other compositions from Complex Numbers are CC-BY-SA 4.0, 2032 is CC-BY-NC 3.0 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. --Lockal (talk) 18:50, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
- Fuck, you are right... If author will change the license on the website - there is no ability to restore deleted files? Vitaly Zdanevich (talk) 19:05, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Vitaly Zdanevich: Yep, I also was not happy about this story... Discovered it when filling wikidata:Q105834355#P275. Yes, admins can easily restore all the files after request at Commons:Undeletion requests. You can also update then Wikidata item with new license too.
