Administrator
Dharmadhyaksha, congratulations! You now have administrator rights on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and Commons:Deletion requests), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.
Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons on irc.freenode.net. There is also a channel for Commons admins, which may be useful for more sensitive topics, or coordination among administrators: #wikimedia-commons-admin.
You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading.
Please also check or add your entry to the List of administrators and the related lists by language and date it references.

- Congrats! If you need help with anything, let me know. The best advice I can give you is if you think a deletion, block, or protection is the right thing to do, than do it, and don't worry too much about it. You'll be wrong once in a while, but that's why there's undelete, unblock, and unprotect. Also, you'll want to go to Preferences/Gadgets/Tools for authorized users and enable all the deletion-related gadgets. Take care. INeverCry 23:50, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

For the love of God please will you put this file back? It had a proper fair use rationale for a logo but some automated piece of shit put a speedy tag on it. Then you came along and obviously didn't look at it properly. Why can't nerds stop making these automated pieces of crap? They never work properly! Nerds, you are NOT as smart as you think you are. These nerds are bit-by-bit rolling back the core principle of Wikipedia which is that anyone can edit. Folk should not have to negiotiate a million-and-one half-baked automated nerd-bots any time they want to add content. This rant is not directed at you, Dharmadhyaksha, you've just been a bit lazy and inept on this occasion. Please correct your sloppy error and undelete the file. And save me the trouble of uploading it again another way in five minutes' time. Thank you. Målfarlig! (talk) 14:07, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
- Snivelling apology time Dharmadhyaksha :- it appears I was lazy, inept and sloppy on this occasion, not you. Of course the logo should go on wikipedia but not commons. Huge apologies for any offence caused by my intemperate rant. Also apologies to any bot building nerds who do a splendid job most of the time, and always have the best intentions. Målfarlig! From the Tips for Novice Internet Users, Chapter 1, Page 2: "Make sure the url you are at is actually the url you want to be. There are plenty similar looking web pages which might confuse you. A quick url check can save you from embarrassment and awkward situations. You don't want to end up sending lovey-dovey smoochy messages openly to your ex instead of your current love interest."

Birds
I came across File:Names of birds in Marathi language compiled by Dr Raju Kasambe.pdf. Is this info available on mr.wiki in a list or article? Seems like a valuable resource. Perhaps mr.wikibooks or mr.wikisource should host this? INeverCry 04:43, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Bots
You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.
What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.
This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.
If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!
- The simple solution is to simply include the "rawcontinue" parameter with your request to continue receiving the raw continuation data (example <https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages&rawcontinue=1>). No other code changes should be necessary.
- Or you could update your code to use the simplified continuation documented at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/API:Query#Continuing_queries (example <https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages&continue=>), which is much easier for clients to implement correctly.
Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.
Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.
Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. I came across this file when I was looking for the contribution of a sock of a globally blocked user, User:व्लादिस्लाव. This sock nominated this file for speedy deletion, first removing the license and then claiming it has no license. The file was originally uploaded from Flickr, got Flickrreiewed, and I checked again that the Flickr license is good. Therefore I restored the file. However, if you know more, please feel free to FFD the file. Band_A5.jpg
Hi, Just now I saw a deletion request of the image file Band_A5.jpg. There is no intention of promoting and advertising the Bengali band A5. I am providing the facts about this distinguished and popular contemporary and folk fusion band A5. I took the picture on the day of the release of A5's folk fusion album "Folkus" at Citi Center, Kolkata. This picture is nothing but a group photo of all the members of A5. I own this image file and also have necessary permission to use it form the members of A5. So there is no copyright issue and therefore I used it in Wikipedia. All the true music lovers in and beyond Bengal (Kolkata, West Bengal, India) should know more about this band A5. I request you to reconsider and please do not delete this image file.
I appreciate your kind cooperation. Thanks in advance. - — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jwiki100 (talk • contribs) 03:52, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

So there is no copyright issue. I own the rights of this image. As a matter of fact some of the contents like artwork and texts were designed and provided to A5 by me. re: Tip of the day: Category
Hi!
Thanks for the tips. Excuse me, do you know if there is any tool to mass upload images, which all can share the same description and category? petrohs (gracias) 04:48, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
- @PetrohsW: Hi! I use Special:UploadWizard. In the first tab you can select multiple images for uploading and when you reach the 3rd tab of "Describe" while uploading, you will be asked to fill all description. There, you can also add categories in the form where categories are actually meant to be. After that there is an option of copying all the information to other images too. So all description, categories, geocode, etc. is automatically copied on all images. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 04:57, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
Tamil Eelam stuff
I came across some insertions in the Tamils article on en.wiki and coming here I found some derivative stuff of Eelam/LTTE that's been resting in Commons for 3-4 years now. I've tagged for copyvio, but I think there's more to this problem that I'm not seeing. As neither Sodabottle or I have been active on en.wiki for a while, a lot of this sort of copyvio has been added to en.wiki and given that the images aren't there, no one has been checking. Just alerting you, perhaps to see if you can also "search" for this. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 05:44, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

- The problem with Eelam flags is that the "logos" for want of a better word have been created by different groups and therefore not in public domain. Country flags have separate flag codes that govern the copyright. —SpacemanSpiff 11:13, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

- @Mdann52: Sorry for late reply. The copyvio reason stated by User:Wdchk for this file was Uploader states here that the image is his own work but has stated on his English Wikipedia talk page that it is not. He is currently blocked on English Wikipedia for uploading similar images multiple times in violation of copyright. This may actually be a derivative work of the original file on the web site listed below; it looks like it has been put through a fax machine or something like that, maybe to "justify" claim of own work??? |source=http://www.clan-duncan.co.uk/images/crests/andrew-duncan-crest.html. Two sets of copyvios
I've tagged two sets, one was straightforward from User:Puli.jaipal, but the other there's a lot from User:Saifivns, all copied from this blog. Can you handle it or do you want me to waste time finding the individual source images? —SpacemanSpiff 06:29, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
- Have deleted files from both sets that you had tagged. The rest I tagged myself. Do you know this tool called Help:VisualFileChange.js? Helps a lot in mass-tagging of files. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 12:15, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
- I've used it in the past (there's an outstanding deletion discussion from me using that), but only now did I realize I can use it for copyvio tagging also. That'd be very useful as I've always tagged copyvios manually. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 12:19, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
- You can use it to append any text also. That way you may categorize files using it, although Cat-a-lot is better in doing that. 12:23, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
- Switched to common from monobook and added it, and it seems to work (haven't done the full run through). cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 12:30, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

Image descriptions
Are these kind of parochial changes to descriptions right? I've seen that it's been done to a few image files by the same IP. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 14:12, 27 September 2015 (UTC)
- @SpacemanSpiff: Actually Commons' scope focuses on the content that excludes file descriptions, galleries, and also categories. These are just for simplicity of searching. You may revert such edits if you see some agenda for promotion or vandal. But if reverted back you don't really have a case. Commons is just a dump and while organization of it necessary and important it really is not the major function. There were discussions about making "Featured Gallery" but those were concluded. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 04:40, 28 September 2015 (UTC)
- I don't exactly care about it beyond the fact that these are silly and in this case dumb as it changes from a factually correct description to a link that hides more information than provides. But I didn't revert for exactly this reason: I thought Commons was more accepting of this sort of crap, so no, I don't want to revert :) —SpacemanSpiff 07:34, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

Hello, you have removed this image => File:Nyle DiMarco - head shot.jpg citing a copyright violation. However, I contacted Mr DiMarco via his verified twitter and he specifically told me that he had this photo taken for his own portfolio and that he owns the copyright. This photo and four others were submitted to WikiCommons with his authorization attached. Why did you remove it / them? Thanks, SchoolMarm101 (talk) 16:57, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

Deletion of Picture file Tehilla Blad.jpg
Hi
You deleted the picture File:Tehilla Blad.jpg claiming Copyright Violation. Why?
I uploaded this picture and stated that it's free to use since it's my own picture taken of my daughter Tehilla Blad by me. I as the photographer has no claims on the picture and Tehilla Blad as the person on the picture has no objections or claim for use.
Otherwise I can not understand what other rules are making this as a Copyright violation. I have also used it on Tehills's IMDB page but that doesn't make it as IMDB's property. So who has the copyright claim other than me?
Kind regards
Tobbe Blad --Eight-ch-dad (talk) 14:48, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Tha D.f4c3r indicates that Priya.wom (talk · contributions · Move log · block log · uploads · Abuse filter log) who has uploaded copyvios here is a sock. There's obviously some other stuff on en.wiki that now needs checking, but I nominated two images for deletion before I realized this, if I'd checked in advance I'd have just gone for a copyvio look at the other uploads. But you may want to look at all the other socks too. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 16:35, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

could you please kindly explain ??
Dear mr , Dharmadhyaksha (talk) ,
you said "possible copyright violation" about my upload.
my statement : i am completely denying the antecedent .
1 st : according to wikimedia , i can upload content that has public domain or creative commons share alike 3.0
status/license . [1] [2]
2 ND: according to creativecommons.org & archive.org , THIS content HAS "Public Domain Dedication" ,& No Copyright .
3RD: IN 2 February 2012 Wikimedia Commons administrator , FunkMonk UPLOADED THIS FILE ,FROM THE SAME archive.org SOURCE
NOW,
could you please kindly explain ??
- Looks like this concerns me also, because I tagged the file as copyright violation. Anyway, answering to your question, BBC is the copyright holder of the said video. Archive.org is an online archive. Anyone can upload any file there and that does not mean that the uploader is the copyright holder, who has released the file into public domain. Unless BBC releases the file under public domain, it is always necessary to get a permission from them to upload in Commons and without that permission, it is definitely a copyright violationa and Dharmadhyaksha deleted the file for that reason. Besides, the file which FunkMonk uploaded is definitely in PD, because it was uploaded by National Archives and falls under {{PD-USGov}}, so he has done the right thing. I agree with FunkMonk that whether the second file is in PD or not, should be checked before uploading in Commons. Thanks, -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 14:52, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2015 is open!
You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2015 Picture of the Year contest.
Dear Dharmadhyaksha,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2015 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the tenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2015) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1322 candidate images. There are 56 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category. In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 28 May 2016, 23:59:59 UTC.
Thanks,
-- Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 09:44, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

Please restore book poster of the Geometric Modeling by Dr. Golovanov
Dear Dharmadhyaksha,
You have removed the image File:The Geometric Modeling Book.png citing a copyright violation.
I uploaded this picture and stated that it's free to use since all the Geometric Book rights is property of the C3D Labs company, which I represent. So, C3D Labs has no claims on the picture and Dr. Nikolay Golovanov as the author of the book has no objections or claim for use.

Baal Veer, Naagin, Ichhapyaari Naagin
Hi! I want to ask that why these pictures were deleted? These were uploaded by me to show the logo for the TV series. First one was "only" the official logo of Baal Veer. Second one was the logo-screenshot from Naagin (TV series)'s S2E2. And the third one was the picture, used in video preview for E1 of Ichhapyaari Naagin. I think these should not be deleted, because these might not have "Copyright Violation". Thanks! M.Billoo2000 (talk) 08:55, 13 October 2016 (UTC) M.Billoo2000 (talk) 08:55, 13 October 2016 (UTC)

Special:Contributions/Jilukv2--suspicious uploads
Hey. Take a look at Special:Contributions/Jilukv2. Three image uploads are of well-known people and are just too good to be true IMHO. Usual redflags are present: too less information (no EXIF etc) and less resolution (more likely not the original owner). For Pramod Mahajan's pic, I did a quick search by image. Quite a few links already using it before its upload in Jan--like this. What is to be done? Ugog Nizdast (talk) 08:02, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
Another: Special:Contributions/Sumant1993, Nagpal image, do a search test and news reports use it. Other image has a watermark of some website. Two random instances, both I found suspicious works...is this so prevalent here? Ugog Nizdast (talk) 09:11, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) Ugog Nizdast, you are right. Leaving behind the two school pics of the user Jilukv2, all the pics are taken from the net. So, I filed their deletion request. - NitinMlk (talk) 19:39, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks NitinMlk for doing my dirty work. In retrospect, pretty obvious cases and I should have done it myself. Ugog Nizdast (talk) 07:46, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
- Hey, couldn't we just Commons:CSD it per criteria 1? Ugog Nizdast (talk) 07:54, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
- As rightly suggested by you, I should've filed the deletion request through the appropriate channel. Then again, I haven't gone through Commons' policies yet, as the regular deletion request always gets these types of files deleted for me. Having said that, Dharmadhyaksha or any other admin can still speed-up their deletion if they feel that these are clear cases of copyvios. In fact, that's what happened in my first DR – Commons:Deletion requests/File:Burhan Wani.png. - NitinMlk (talk) 18:43, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
