Thanks for uploading File:Glasschord by Beyer, 1786.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

- Thank you for pointing out the problem. I had misunderstood it was produced by Feutron Klimasimulation GmbH at Langenwetzendorf, but according to an entry on the radiomuseum.org, it was produced by its predecessor, Feutron Greiz, VEB at Greiz, Thüringen. So I have corrected the categories. --Clusternote (talk) 01:38, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Hammond RT (edit1).jpg
This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Hammond RT (edit1).jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

File:Donkey Kong II Game & Watch by Nintendo, closed, Model No. JR-55, Made in Japan Copyright 1983 (Handheld Electronic Game).jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Copyright status: File:Fishing at Tama River, and railway bridge (1961-02-12 by Charles Dunn).jpg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Fishing at Tama River, and railway bridge (1961-02-12 by Charles Dunn).jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

- Hi, @廣九直通車: This photograph was taken in 1961 by Charles Dunn (1915–1995) who was a professor of Japanese at the SOAS, University of London, and later posted on Flickr by his daughter (joined Flickr on May 2016), according to the About page on Flickr. His photographs were the results of his private hobby, and there is no particular reason to doubt that inheritances of his private hobby was inherited by his daughter after his death in 1985. Why do you think the license of this photograph is inappropriate ?

- Thank you for your question. The file is marked using a "Flickr public domain mark (PDM)", which is used to mark a file might be in public domain. However, it is not a valid license according to COM:PDM. In fact, PDM does not means that the author released the file into public domain. As we know, the file is photographed in 1961, yet according to Template:PD-Japan-oldphoto/en, the file is not in Japanese public domain, because it is neither released after 1957-01-01 nor taken after 1947-01-01. As the source page does not provide a clear and valid license, and the file is not in public domain in the source country, the file is unfree. Should you have any further questions, please feel free to ask here.廣九直通車 (talk) 03:23, 21 January 2019 (UTC)

Important message for file movers
A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

Akihabara maids
Regarding your recent additions of gallery items (eg Special:Diff/608391155), are these actually "other versions" or are they merely related images? If they depict the same subject, we might consider them "other versions", but this should be made clear in the description. Otherwise, I would consider them merely related images, which do not belong here, but rather in a relevant category. Brianjd (talk) 04:01, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
- I also note that File:Akihabara Maids.JPG is missing an information template. Brianjd (talk) 04:03, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Brianjd: Hi, Brianjd. I've a merely short time so I will describe you briefly.
- The files on issue:
- File:Akihabara Maids.JPG
- File:Akihabara Maids2.jpg
- File:French maid handing out flyers - Do bunny ears go with a French maid outfit ? Who cares, she's attractive. (2006-07-09 01.37.20 by interiot).jpg
- File:French maid with sad bunny ears that matches the mood nicely ... (2006-07-09 01.35.09 by interiot).jpg
- The first two photos have not the detailed information, so once I had categorized these on Category:Unidentified year in Akihabara, about five years ago. The last two photos with detailed information, were that I have transferred from Flickr, about four years ago.
And on today, I checked the above Unidentified year category, and I found that the maid with rabbit ears on her head, is photographed on above four images. The location of these photos taken, is the place I visited every week at the same time, and it can be estimated that these four photos were taken of same subject at almost same season of same year. So I put them together in one gallery for grouping them. - The usage of
other_versions
field seems to be not officially defined clearly. This field is useful to show the other media related to the main media at a glance, and we can use it virtually freely, in my opinion.

I’ve noticed that you rarely use the summary as to why you’re moving a file or category per COM:FR. Failure to use the file mover right correctly, will result in it being revoked. Bidgee (talk) 22:16, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Bidgee: Thanks for your sincere advice, and also thank you for helping my renaming request in 2010. Just now, I added renaming reason on the file description field.
I often tend to omit the reason for file renaming only when it was uploaded by myself using implicit multiple accounts, once legal on Wikimedia. However, above my behavior is not good, so, from today, I want to fill the reason for file renaming. --Clusternote (talk) 02:10, 2 December 2021 (UTC)

My recent uploads
Hi there. I didn't notice you were uploading files from this Flickr album when I uploaded that set. I did so because an edit to Category:Marshmallow sofa popped up on my watchlist, and I decided to find other files to populate it, one of which was in that set. Note that I use the default naming because it prevents future duplicate uploads by Flickr2Commons. Mindmatrix 14:32, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, Mindmatrix. Thanks for your notification on my talk page. As for Flickr2Commons, until several years ago, it used to be duplicate-checked even if the filename wasn't the default, in my memory. However now it's not, so it's inconvenient. I'm sorry for trouble you. --Clusternote (talk) 14:57, 1 July 2022 (UTC)

Category:Media related to sweets shops outside the UK seems a very odd category. Do you intend this only as temporary while you break this down further? In particular, for a traditional Japanese sweet shop, "outside the UK" seems a very strange description. - Jmabel ! talk 15:00, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- Jmabel Yes, this is an improper category. I am currently depopulating it. Clusternote, before creating new categories, do a bit of due diligence. The description at the beginning of Category:Candy stores clearly indicates that sweet shops are to be regarded as such, and the various Category:Candy stores by country categories are where most of the files in Category:Media related to sweets shops outside the UK actually belong. -- Andre Carrotflower (talk) 15:38, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for your opinions. This issue seems deeply problematic, in my eyes
- Surely, the "Candy store" in American English may be including the "Sweet store" in British English, in the view point of American English;
- On the other hand, for other countries, their original confectionery / sugar confectionery may be not counted as candy at all.
However, their shops natively considered as a kind of Sweet stores or Confectionery shops in their country, are previously/potentially sub-categorized unnaturally under the Candy shops;
For example, Chocolate shops have their own raison d'etre in Belgium, France, et al, however these are unnaturally sub-categorized under Candy stores.
- In my opinion, these should be properly resolved, with the view point of other countries. --Clusternote (talk) 00:52, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
- P.S. The sweet foods under the category Category:Media related to sweets shops outside the UK are, also the sub-categorized under the Sweet food of India, Wagashi, etc. And their shops (for example, Wagashi shops) are potentially sub-categorized under Sweet stores and Confectionery shops, however these are previously/currently redirected to the Candy stores, thus we can't properly organize.
Therefore, we can resolve this issue by introducing new categories: Category:Sweet food shops and Category:Sweet food shops by country. Any problem ? --Clusternote (talk) 01:25, 23 August 2022 (UTC)- I think you're overthinking this issue. Even if we consider the question of whether we prefer the word "sweet shop" or "candy store" important, it remains a separate issue. If reflecting the fact that other countries draw a sharp distinction between the two is really crucial, then the parent category should be called "sweet shops", the by-country categories can use either term depending on national preference, and for those countries that do draw a distinction, "Candy stores in X" should be subcategories of "Sweet shops in X". However, Commons generally doesn't do categories formatted as "item X not located in country Y", so Category:Media related to sweets shops outside the UK isn't going to pass muster in either case. -- Andre Carrotflower (talk) 02:26, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
- As Jmabel said, this category may be a temporary category while resolving the issue wrote above, as a result. I'll resolve the issue around this category, and want to request the deletion in a few days. Sorry for trouble you. --Clusternote (talk) 02:40, 23 August 2022 (UTC)

Category:Cute_couples has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |
