Hi, all the images I've uploaded, I can guarantee I have 100% permission to use them, because I am the creator and owner of them myself. How would you like me to prove them? Clammy77 (talk) 01:32, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

M&B WFAS Logo / M&B WFAS Logo 2
Excuse me but I can not understand the reason for reporting and removing images uploaded by me: these images are both modified compared to the original, one of these has as a source a picture already uploaded in wikipedia for several years, but I can not ( I do not know for what strange reasons) to load it in the template, as well as all those of different nationalities. The fact is that I am disheartened that I have been reported twice for trying to fix a problem I have been trying to solve for several months : \ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leonfav of the Pigeon Gang (talk • contribs) 02:15, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

Regarding the block on User:Namo20
Hello! I’m a SYSOP from the ckb wiki. This user which his account you have blocked indefinitely edits on the ckb wiki and is a very new user. I wanted to let you know that the user is inexperienced in this field and, like many of us, wasn’t aware of the strict Wikimedia Commons copyright rules. This user has uploaded the images for fair use but didn’t know these types of images are uploaded locally. I’m asking you to reconsider the indefinite block and at least add an expiration. I’m not asking for the block to be lifted, just add an expiration, because the user has been uploading in good faith. Thank you :).--Épine (talk) 19:51, 15 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Épine: They were warned numerious times to stop violating policies here, and from their actions they refused. They can be unblocked when they make a proper unblock request. They can still edit their talk page. 1989 (talk) 19:55, 15 March 2019 (UTC)
- If you look at my talk page, I was also warned numerious times about some violations I made when I was still inexperienced. we’ve talked about this here, and it’s clear that the user has been uploading in good faith and was only trying to help the projects :). Many of these new users tend to overlook the warnings, so I think it’s great if we are a bit more patient and assume good faith more often. I will let him know to follow the process and let you know so you’re the same one that reviews it. Thanks.--Épine (talk) 20:00, 15 March 2019 (UTC)

Indefinite blocks
Hi, 1989. You use mostly indefinite blocks, even as first block. This is not good. First block for copyright violations should not be indefinite, in my opinion. This does not give the user opportunity to reform himself and to become a better person. Indefinite block should be usually third or even fourth block, so progression should be week-month-year-indefinite or in worse cases month-year-indefinite. First block for copyvios should be indefinite only in extraordinary cases. Taivo (talk) 10:26, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Taivo: You may want to think of raising this more generally. Commons has no standards for block escalation, nor how many warnings there should be before an indef. Sysops on en.wp are supported by a simple hierarchy of blocks, and it's then easy for blocks to be used consistently, regardless of who places them. --Fæ (talk) 11:01, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Taivo: In cases like uploading copyvios after warnings, it would be best for them to make an unblock request to demonstrate they are familiar with the licensing policy, as the ones I end up blocking either ignore the warnings or create another account if blocked. It alone shows they are unwilling to learn. I would take note above and seek changes to the blocking policy if your way is how it should work. -- 1989 (talk) 16:54, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
Hello 1989. I am writing about the block you administered to the said user. In fact she is an Italian secondary school student in Rovereto. She has not abused multiple users, she is simply writing from a shared ip address which is her school's. Basically she is working with her classroom on a project developed with their teacher that teaches them how to share knowledge and to deal with photographs licence. Of course, being they 12-13 year old kids, sometimes they made mistakes but not in bad faith. We at Wikimedia Italy sometimes organize similar workshops with newbies too, and grown people make bigger mistakes than those students. Many of the media they have uploaded are their own creations, and they are providing with consistent contributions i.e. here (if you deal with Italian). So please consider unblocking her and mostly the IP associated because the whole schools is not able to operate. Though I am an administrator too I'd prefer it's you who does that. Thanks. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 16:20, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Blackcat: This account and Carbonara.isera-rovereto (talk · contribs · logs · block log) seem to be similar based on their uploads and username style. Is the account named not their account as well? Also, what is the IP address that was affected from the autoblock? 1989 (talk) 16:43, 20 March 2019 (UTC)

About the file "Bourriquet.jpg"
Hello,
On 7 March 2019, due to Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by AlexHrlt, you have deleted File:Bourriquet DS.jpg and File:Bourriquet.jpg. But, on the same day, the second file has been recreated. I am not sure (because I can not see the deleted files) but I suspect that the new file contains the image of File:Bourriquet DS.jpg under the name "File:Bourriquet.jpg". How to handle this situation?

Speedy deletions
Where did you find such speedy deletion criterion as “Out of project scope”? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 07:49, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
- It was listed in the general reasons for speedy until it was removed with little community feedback. Knowing the reason was removed for being “obsolete”, I don’t see a problem with using it as I find it useful in certain situations. -- 1989 (talk) 09:24, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
- I guess that File:Utah.2020.svg (hist • logs • abuse log) and all these ElectoralCollege⋯.svg depicted made-up “elections” similarly to File:1976alt.svg (hist • logs • abuse log), but anyway, next times you should submit regular deletion requests because speedy deletion rationales based on scope haven’t a community support. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 09:57, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
While I agree that the two examples above are out of scope, the issue is usually subjective. Many times I have seen a DR where the nominator thought that it was a "unused personal image, out of scope" and another of us pointed out that the subject had an article in one of the smaller WPs. While it is our policy that uploaders must prove that images belong on Commons, it is up to the rest of us to give them every opportunity to do so. This is particularly true for newbies, who might simply go away, never to return, if an image is speedied that should not have been. . Jim . . . IP blocked
Hi, a school contacted me (I am admin in Italian Wikipedia) because they are doing a work and their IP is blocked cause this [2]. I don't know exactly the reason of the block, but the whole school is now blocked of indefinite... too much in my opinion. This school basically cannot continue to contribute to Commons, and they are starting to upload in Italian Wikipedia, so the admin have to transfer the images in Commons --Ilario (talk) 13:45, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Ilario: You should know autoblocks last 24 hours. I never heard of an IP being able to upload images, so I’m assuming they have an organization account. If this is the case, that (unless identity verified) and uploading copyvios are not allowed here. 1989 (talk) 15:14, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
- @1989: Thank you. They are not uploading as IP, what they said is that the whole school cannot upload or create an account since 5th March [3], basically students are uploading content from home. So I understood that they have been blocked because they are uploading as "organization" and not because they were uploading screnshoots of Scratch even if Scratch is under free license, as they supposed. How to solve the problem? It may be possible to unblock the IP and to allow the upload through their personal accounts as they are doing from home? --Ilario (talk) 20:24, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Ilario: I was unaware of the program they were using. Instead of the school explaining that to me while making an unblock request on their original account, they are making accounts with similar names to evade what they were blocked for, which is unacceptable. -- 1989 (talk) 20:31, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
- @1989: Ok, I have explained them to don't evade the block trying to create accounts. Sorry but they don't speak english very well. I am mediating the communication with them. --Ilario (talk) 20:56, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

Sherwin2
Not sure what got into that user, but the user was already blocked for a week. Why did you overrule this? In the almost 10 years that the user has been active, the user never had a warning or a block. This seems to be a bit heavy handed. I would change it back to the week (or a month if you think that is needed) and leave a strong worded reprimand about not ever pulling these kind of tricks on Commons again. Multichill (talk) 19:37, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Multichill: Did you see what they said? Both diffs had to be revdeleted. From their actions of hateful conduct towards Ellin’s gender, we can’t have that kind of hostility toward long term members who are familiar with how the project works, or anybody for that matter. This user needs to make an unblock request to edit here again. If you disagree, feel free to have my changes reviewed by the community, -- 1989 (talk) 19:46, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Yann and Ellin Beltz: as overruled admin and victim, what is your view on this? Multichill (talk) 20:01, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
- I hesitated for a longer block, but indefinitely is quite harsh. This behaviour is indeed far from usually edits of this user. Anyway, a message from Sherwin2 would be good. Regards, Yann (talk) 05:40, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Yann and Ellin Beltz: as overruled admin and victim, what is your view on this? Multichill (talk) 20:01, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Since this behavior is so far removed from Sherwin2's norm (aside from this, they've apparently never posted a user talk page message), I'm inclined to think the account may have been compromised, which would justify an indef block until Sherwin2 can show that they have regained control. clpo13(talk) 20:33, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
- I don’t know about that. Recently, Ellin nominated a number of their images (Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Sherwin2) for deletion. When they performed the personal attacks, they were immediately reverted and blocked. -- 1989 (talk) 20:37, 18 June 2019 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Tommy Fashion
Hello,
Per insight from Patrick I'm reaching out to you about my photos being scheduled for deletion. I received notification that 11 of my photos are scheduled for speedy deletion. "The given reason is: CSD F10 (personal photos by non-contributors)". Patrick told me that you have deleted one of my photos based on COM:SCOPE. I read the COM:SCOPE page and the Upload Wizard. Those pages don't say that I have to have a contribution on other sister projects in order to upload photos. It does say that I have to own the copy rights and be willing to allow others to use the photos, which I have agreed to.
Please note, the pictures uploaded today are a part of a project for a non-profit school and some of my older pictures are being used by other wiki sites (both of them being non-English speaking sites).
Can you please stop the deletion process and explain?
Thank you in advance. --Tommy Fashion (talk) 01:22, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
- Commons is not a webhost. 1989 (talk) 01:24, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Administrator 1989,
- Please note, the pictures uploaded yesterday are a part of a project for a non-profit school. Posting them to my page was done so because I do see Wikimedia an educational resource, and not a social platform like some other photo sharing site. My older photos were posted because I just thought they were really cool and similar to what was being posted at the time and to this day. There are tons of pictures of Selena Gomez on tour, at events and doing press marketing. There's also several photos of my favorite supermodel Coco Rocha, walking the runway, at networking events and doing brand advertising. Both of those cases fall under the topic of COM:SCOPE.
- Since the photos recently uploaded were done so for educational purposes, please stop their deletion process. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tommy Fashion (talk • contribs)

Revdel
Hi 1989, Hope all is well,
Not sure if revdel would apply here but if it does could you maybe revdel all edits at File:Consumers Distributing original logo.jpg so it just shows the author only,
An editor has been messing about with the image but as can be seen there are way too many revisions/changes and as such you have to go to the next page just to see who the author is which imho is rather silly just because of the amount of changes done,
If it can't be done then I guess this'll have to be ignored,
Many thanks, –Davey2010Talk 01:39, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello 1989, I received an inquiry at OTRS attached to an unrelated, closed ticket regarding deletion of https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ARD-Korrespondent_Udo_Lielischkies.jpg . See OTRS ticket #2019072410005652 (scroll down to the last entry). JGHowes talk 23:35, 13 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi, I am very disappointed that 1. You didn't read my post entirely and carefully. This was not just about the The Stand News case. I made that clear in my message. Regards, Yann (talk) 15:24, 17 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Yann: Besides saying they have a long list of problems, you didn’t list those problems which is unclear, you mostly just talked about the DR closure they made, how they felt about you, and linked a previous discussion that was closed as no consensus without giving to detail to the other messages you left. 1989 (talk) 15:50, 17 August 2019 (UTC)
- Then I will reopen this with all the details. Regards, Yann (talk) 17:07, 17 August 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, BTW you have it backwards in your comment: I didn't restore the template because I have a disagreement with Jcb. But I have a disagreement with Jcb because he deleted the template and the files without a valid reason. Regards, Yann (talk) 12:02, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
- I didn’t say you did, I said you restored it while in a dispute over their closure and should of let an uninvolved admin restore the template. As far as your reason, that’s your perspective that others in the AN/U discussion I closed didn’t agree with. 1989 (talk) 15:08, 18 August 2019 (UTC)

You recently deleted File:Emmysmithlivestage.jpg as "Out of COM:SCOPE, COM:NOTHOST", per Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Iamemmysmith. It was used on Wikidata; see [4], which makes it in-scope. I have nominated the Wikidata item which used it for deletion, but please check in future before deleting as out-of-scope images which are in use. User and talkpage Protection
Hi 1989, Hope all is well :),
Just wondering could you possibly full-protect both User:Davey2010 test account and User talk:Davey2010 test account please?, No one would ever need to edit both as both only redirect here however I'm slightly worried some moron will vandalise it at some point (Haven't added both to watchlist as don't see the point),
Many thanks

Deletion Userpage AKMaier
Did you see that there was already a deletion request on my user page that was declined? A user gallery is appropriate content for a user page. Please detail the reasons for the deletion. AKMaier (talk) 04:01, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
This was the previous discussion: Commons:Deletion requests/User:AKMaier AKMaier (talk) 04:04, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
- @AKMaier: Yes, and your user page did not look like a gallery to me. Your user page was encyclopedic content which is not allowed per COM:PSP. It was explained on a message I left on your talk page. 1989 (talk) 04:27, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
- Please advise a commons page with a correct Gallery layout. To me images with captions appeared as an appropriate gallery. This was also the result of the previous discussion. I would have loved to apply the correct gallery format instead of immediately deleting it. To a new user like me this kind of behavior feels quite harsh. AKMaier (talk) 04:32, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
- @AKMaier: See COM:GALLERY. The way you had it replicates a Wikipedia article, and shows encyclopedic content. 1989 (talk) 04:37, 19 October 2019 (UTC)

- @User:1989: It does does not replicate anything from Wikipedia. It merely had captions. If you want me to modify my gallery, please tell me to do so, but not delete my user page. This is even more problematic as I already successfully turned down a deletion request last week. It seems you did not follow any of this discussion. This feels very frustrating. AKMaier (talk) 04:45, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
- @AKMaier: (No need to ping me here) Not from what I saw. While you explained yourself on why it should be kept and an non-admin closure was performed, your arguments are not valid in this situation. Yes, the reason itself was not a valid reason for deletion, however, violation of COM:PSP is. 1989 (talk) 04:54, 19 October 2019 (UTC)

AKMaier (talk) 04:45, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
- @User:1989: The reasons for my replies are that I want to understand my mistakes and improve on them. It is very difficult to understand for me which rules and content are appropriate and which ones are not. There seem to be always to sides to the discussion. I would like to create an overview on the images that I created. From the description of gallery, I read, however, they are rather centered around a topic rather than a user. Are user galleries generally discouraged? Was I merely missing the Gallery Tag? It would be great to see an example for what I am trying to create. I really like sharing ideas and content and I would love to contribute actively to this. I hope you can understand these reasons and why I keep asking questions. Merely accepting the deletion without learning and understanding feels like defeat. I do not think that this would be in the spirit of wiki commons / wikipedia. AKMaier (talk) 05:06, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
- @User:1989 From how I understand COM:PSP a user gallery on educational material under CC 4.0 BY license is perfectly acceptable. AKMaier (talk) 05:10, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
- @AKMaier: I meant there is no need to link my name as I’m aware of your messages. As for your first question. no. The first sentence you had on your user page, you introduced yourself (allowed). The next was a section with encyclopedic (educated) content, which is not allowed in user pages as stated in the “User pages, galleries and categories” section under non-allowable. Examples of user galleries are Category:User galleries in the “Pages in category” section. 1989 (talk) 05:26, 19 October 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!
Hello,
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at Wikimedia Commons.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.
Thank you!

Deletion affecting WP Main Page
Just an FYI - you recently deleted File:HistorGruenGewPretiosensaal.jpg as a copyright violation. Fair enough, but that image was featured on the main page of the English Wikipedia, so deleting it has left a red link on the Main Page for over 30 minutes. Possibly in future you could consider notifying editors before deletion to avoid this sort of situation. Ivar the Boneful (talk) 07:24, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

Files by User:Gabriele Sotgiu
You tagged all three uploads of this user on 2 November as no permission, and they were later deleted. Do you remember what a specific problem with these uploads was (they were all marked as own work)? One of the images was shortlisted for WLM Russia, I tried to figure out what is going on, but I do not see anything anomalous in the deleted file. Thanks.--Ymblanter (talk) 07:34, 14 December 2019 (UTC)
- Per the metadata, I tagged them for verification, to see if there was no impersonation. A ticket was sent in (ticket:201911031000140) to address the uploads. @~riley: Care to take a look and restore if needed? 1989 (talk) 08:31, 14 December 2019 (UTC)

Hello! I had asked riley for some help, but he/she is apparently taking a break. Could you help me? Veverve (talk) 14:18, 26 December 2019 (UTC)

Ask for possible deletion
I believe the first two versions of File:World-iq-map-lynn-2006.svg use a copyrighted map from Simple Maps, as the author admited. The current version uses a CC 4.0 map, so I believe that only the first two versions (i.e. 21:00, 18 November 2019; and 20:26, 28 December 2019) need to be deleted. See also the monologue I have had with the author who quickly cooperated and likely acted in good faith; his/her mistakes were due to inexperience with copyright I believe. Veverve (talk) 00:50, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
- The map is copyrighted? 1989 (talk) 02:16, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
- This is what I understood when I read: "Ownership of Code: All rights in the Map are owned by the Provider. This includes copyright 2010-2016 of all program code and documentation. Ownership of any intellectual property generated by the Provider while performing custom modifications to the map for a Customer (with or without payment) is retained by the Provider. Customers can transfer their license to a third-party, at the sole discretion of the Provider, by submitting a request via email." (source). I believe this is also supported by the fact there is apparently a copyright in the code ("Copyright (c) 2015 Pareto Softare, LLC DBA Simplemaps.com"). The MIT license apparently does not concern the map but concerns the "Basic" data: "Basic World Cities Database: The Provider offers a Basic World Cities Database free of charge. This database is licensed under the MIT license as described at: https://opensource.org/licenses/MIT." (source) Veverve (talk) 10:36, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
- Given the complexity, I can’t help you with this, If you want assistant on this as well, I’d suggest going to Commons:Village pump/Copyright again. 1989 (talk) 15:37, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
- My train of thought is that since the base map has now been replaced by another one with a license which is sure to be compatible with commons, you might as well delete those using the Simple Maps version I mentionned, i.e. the first two versions, just in case. Veverve (talk) 16:00, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi 1989. It's just a face with simple lines/shapes. This is clearly PD-simple. If you're concerned by the "complexity" of the shapes, I can smooth the edges, but I don't think this is an outright copyright violation. -FASTILY 01:12, 2 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Ankry: I'd like a second opinion. Do you think this drawn face from a manga is ineligible for copyright? 1989 (talk) 05:23, 2 February 2020 (UTC)
- No opinion. This is about Japanese ToO. Maybe, ask some Japanese? Ankry (talk) 08:04, 2 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Miya: Is this image {{PD-simple}}? 1989 (talk) 03:28, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- In the first place what for is this image uploaded? If it was uploaded to explain the manga en:One-Punch Man, maybe it was not PD-simple but a derivative work or a fairuse image, perhaps. And if it were not for the manga, is there any article which needs this image?--miya (talk) 12:49, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- It's my user page image. It could be just as easily be used in an enwp article, but may I remind you that Commons does not editorialize other projects? This file is purely a simple face composed of easy-to-draw shapes; it is below Japanese TOO. If someone is bothered by the "complexity" of the shapes, I'll smooth the edges and call it a day. Quite frankly, I'm troubled it was deleted in the first place, given that there are many other logos/graphics from Japan uploaded here that are significantly more complex. 1989, please restore, thanks. -FASTILY 21:38, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- With what I’ve requested above, no one has really been in your defense in regards of what you’ve had to say about the file, nor supportive of the proposed solution. Because of the complications of the copyright status and your further response, precautionary principle is warranted here. 1989 (talk) 22:34, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- You've got to be kidding me. That's a complete logical fallacy. The fact that nobody has offered an opposing/supporting opinion does not mean I am wrong. I generally hold you in pretty high esteem but YOUR behavior these past few days is the exact reason that Commons has such a terrible reputation among its sister projects. -FASTILY 22:50, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- I understand your anger here, but please, you need to chill out. 1989 (talk) 22:59, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- You really just don't get it, do you? I suggest you do the right thing, and restore the file. Doubling down on current position and going the cavalier route isn't doing you any favors. -FASTILY 23:25, 3 February 2020 (UTC)

- I understand your anger here, but please, you need to chill out. 1989 (talk) 22:59, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Miya: Is this image {{PD-simple}}? 1989 (talk) 03:28, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- No opinion. This is about Japanese ToO. Maybe, ask some Japanese? Ankry (talk) 08:04, 2 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Fastily: Your "user page image"? - I see. Perhaps the file itself may be PD-simple, I'm not sure though. I assume 1989 would not have speedy-deleted it, if only the filename was not "Ok Face" but "My Face" or something like that, because you would find numerous One-punch man illustlations relatively simillar to this file with the search words of "ok face". --miya (talk) 00:58, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

Your edit on Template:SD
Hi, I believe your edit on this template is the reason what caused 300+ images to appear in Category:Other speedy deletions when most of those images don't even have a deletion template tagged. See if that edit is the reason that caused all of this, if not please report it. Thanks! Zaxxon0 (talk) 19:57, 13 March 2020 (UTC)

World of Warships screenshots for the article
Greetings,
Recently you have deleted all 5 my screenshots from World of Warships game, created by my specifically for the article here on Wikipedia.
The reason given was "Screenshot of non-free content (F3)" which is not true since both the game and the ships are free to play and it's also a great example of fair use - both the article and developers will benefit from gameplay screenshots of the game.
Could you please suggest ways to include screenshots in the article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zxmerlin (talk • contribs) 16:29, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
Flickr users top 10
Hi! I put the photos of Scot in Category:Photographs by Scot Nelson to make it easier to start a mass DR (I asked OTRS-team if they have anything). Do you know a way to find out which Flickr users we have most photos from? I'm talking about Category:Flickr public domain images needing human review. --MGA73 (talk) 15:54, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi 1989, your decision there is wrong. The model cars are not eligible for copyright protection because they are reproductions of the originals without any space for any individial creativity. Individial creativity is even not intended by the manufacturers of such model cars because they should look exactly like the orginal cars. Please undelete the images. Empty categories
Hi. Please notice the current Deletion policy. Empty categories don't longer fall under speedy deletion unless they are "obviously unusable for the future (unlikely to be ever meaningfully used)". Thank You. --ŠJů (talk) 20:46, 26 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi 1989, you have just deleted this category. I have two questions, can you consult with the creator of the category before you delete it? and what is the meaning of the narrative you have left on that page here I'd like to follow up that reference you refer to with "The deletion, protection, and move log for the page are provided below for reference". The same here. Your thoughts, please. Eddaido (talk) 14:13, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Eddaido: If categories are not in use, they usually aren't kept for long unless it's notable to be used in the future. 1989 (talk) 14:25, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
- This is a regular issue for me. I have created many categories. They are filled when created. Editors mistakenly move items from categories leaving them empty (I'm not notified I don't know why) and then a civic-minded editor like yourself comes along and deletes my category because it is empty.
- How do I arrange to be notified when one of my categories falls empty?
- Thanks, Eddaido (talk) 00:19, 18 April 2020 (UTC)

The blocking of User:呂承新
Hello, I'm Reke, the staff of Wikimedia Taiwan. In 12 March this year, you blocked User:呂承新(Lu Chen-hsin) by the reason "Abusing multiple accounts". Several days ago, a lab group of the Department of Physics, National Changhua University of Education (Phys-NCUE) asked me to help Lu.
According their explanation, Lu didn't try to use multiple account to avoid blocking. In the beginning, the lab wanted to donate Commons some physics educating files which are made by teachers of PhysNCUE. However, cause of careless on the TOU of Commons, the lab registered a shared-account "User:彰師大物理實驗室" (彰師大 = NCUE, 物理 = Phsics, 實驗室 = Laboratory. So the full name means Physics Lab of NCUE.) to upload all files. After User:彰師大物理實驗室 being blocked and all files being deleted by copyrights, they though if all files are uploaded by their own author, it may work. So Lu, as one original author of the files, uploaded some deleted files again.
I knew the action is not a right way to let those files come back. Your blocking is a right decision. However, I've explained to the Lab the policies of Wikimedia and ask them to cooperate with WMTW if they still want to continue the project. I can promise that they won't do any things that violate the TOU. Would you please unblock User:呂承新?
Thanks for your reading.--Reke (talk) 07:50, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

Deletion of logos
Hello. You deleted some company logos I uploaded a while back because of supposed copyright issue. All of them should have been covered by the rudimentary work clause though that every other company logo on here goes by without issues. The uploads had the proper copyright banners to show it. I never received an answer on my talk page when I asked you what the problem with them was and I'd like one. I work on a project that uses company logos in Wikidata. So it's good to have them. I don't really feel like getting my account blocked because of people who claim copyrights on my uploads though. So, it would be extremely helpful if you could enlighten me as to what the issue was so I can avoid the problem in the future and not get my account blocked for nothing. It's also not helpful to anyone if files people upload get arbitrarily deleted either. Thanks. --Adamant1 (talk) 05:59, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Adamant1: I wasn't aware of your message as the ping you gave me wasn't received because you added it too late. The logos you uploaded contained complex symbols in which can't be kept. See COM:TOO. Please keep in mind copyright violations are removed on sight as it's helpful to Commons. 1989 (talk) 22:48, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
- @1989: That explains it. Let's see the Banco di Sicilia logo is just a circle with a dash through it. Banco Internacional Ecuador's logo is three lines next to each other (pretty universally used symbol in a bunch of places). Banco Internacional's logo again is just a circle with lines through it. Banco di Napoli Logo is a square with upside down Us. Banco Popolare di Sondrio's Logo is a square with letters in it (letters aren't covered by copyright as a unique work and a square isn't complex). Banca Popolare di Novara Logo is just oval shapes. Antonveneta's logo is a basic triangle. So, which logo's out of those are complex or not just basic rudimentary shapes? The squares? What about the circles with a line through them? Maybe the ovals? Or how about the three lines? The triangle? I'm just not seeing it. Anyone could design any of those logos. Especially Banca Popolare di Novara's logo. It's just a oval silhouette of people. There's nothing complex, unique, can be copyrighted, or let alone not work in Commons about a basic shape of a human that even a child could draw. Same goes for the other logos though. It's extremely laughable to suggest that three lines next to each other is in any way complex. --Adamant1 (talk) 02:38, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Adamant1: I'm aware of your messages, so there's no need to ping me on my talk page. I've taken another look. I agree with your observation of the BIE logo, so I've restored it. The other ones I don't agree with. If you wish for another opinion, see COM:UDR. 1989 (talk) 02:54, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

Metadata Deletion
Hi, I apologize for bothering you but I uploaded an image from my friend's daughter's computer because I am staying with them and I did not realize it would add her name to the file in the metadata. I didn't see it but she did and wants it removed and I can't remove it. I've tried. Now she's upset and her mother's upset with me for upsetting her and you don't need the messy details. Can you either remove the metadata or just delete the file and I'll try to start again? I put in a deletion request but I don't know how long that takes. The file is: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Oscar_Wilde_Memorial_Bookshop_Advertisement.jpg Thank you for your help. Lilipo25 (talk) 23:00, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Why did you delete this and other categories? It's clearly indicated on the categories that these are tracker categories. Please correct your errors. Multichill (talk) 17:04, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Multichill: I stated in the log summary why it was deleted. I wasn't aware tracker categories are exempt, let alone it being one. Could you please be specific on what you want restored? That'd be helpful. Thank you. 1989 (talk) 17:28, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- Exempt from what? Common sense? You're only allowed to speedy delete an empty category if the category doesn't serve a useful purpose. This an other categories clearly serve a purpose as you can see on the categories itself so these don't qualify for speedy deletion. Please undelete the remaining categories with " ID" in the title. Multichill (talk) 18:21, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- Just to be clear: also a series of categories of the type Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Blasbach was deleted. Do you include those in your request, Multichill? I can't see the content of the category description, so I'm not sure. Effeietsanders (talk) 18:35, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Multichill: Exempt from being deleted due to them being empty. I didn't know those categories served a useful purpose. A lot of them were blank. I've went back and undeleted the ones with ID on it. Let me know if I missed anything. 1989 (talk) 20:21, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

Please undo your deletion of this maintenance category
Hi,
You just deleted this maintenance category. The category is filled with images that are not properly identified as cultural heritage monument, and once they are identified, they disappear again from the category. Most of this activity will happen around September, when the country participates. In a good year, the category will be mostly empty, by design.
Please undo your deletion. Thank you. Effeietsanders (talk) 17:42, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- PS: this is true for all categories in this series. Effeietsanders (talk) 17:43, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Effeietsanders: I went back and restored the ones with "unknown IDs". Let me know if I missed anything. 1989 (talk) 18:05, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks. I think there's another 'unknown region' category for the Philippines that basically serves the same purpose. You seemed to have missed a few more (Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Nigeria with unknown IDs, Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Malaysia with unknown IDs, Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Andorra with unknown IDs)
- There's a whole other discussion about how constructive it is to delete the empty categories that make part of a structure (Cultural heritage monuments in XYZ are usually there to complete a tree, and make sure that people don't use the wrong name for a region/place). As we have an annual photo drive to trickle into this, I think that this is reasonable. But that is a discussion where you could reasonably disagree. I don't think it is appropriate to delete them in that case though, especially after so many years, without first having that conversation (or maybe I'm overlooking an element of urgency). I recall (but can't find) an extensive conversation about this structure 8 or 9 years back, and it would have been nice to at least see some appreciation for the structure that people try to provide for some level of consistency. Because the categories are pre-created, and the name is therefore guaranteed, maintenance with bots and tools becomes easier. I do hope that you also reconsider that set (yes, we're talking thousands this time...) Effeietsanders (talk) 18:32, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Effeietsanders: I believe you're referring to Category:Cultural heritage monuments in the Philippines in unknown region, in which I have restored. As for the Cultural heritage monuments in XYZ, like I said above, I wasn't aware of those categories serving a purpose like being a reservation. I'd be happy to restore all of them if you like. 1989 (talk) 20:26, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

Reason for deletion
Hi why this File:VE60LHD-used-ALFA-ROMEO-MITO-DIESEL-HATCHBACK-1-3-JTDM-95-Lusso-3dr-Diesel-Manual-RED-2010-XC-L-10 (34538443764).jpg was deleted and more importantly why no message was send before its deletion, that people can review it? I need to check its license but I cant find it anymore because you have deleted it, where from that image was transferred to wikimedia? --Typ932 (talk) 09:47, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

File:Dandelion Gosling (49922177848).jpg featured picture nomination
Hi 1989,
Basotxerri made a higher quality version of that image here that addressed the underexposure issue. I'd nominate it, but I personally don't think that photo was all that great or special to begin with, so I'll let you do the honours if you want.

If you think that this is not a copyright violation, please see the source and the comment in the file history. Leonel Sohns (talk) 19:29, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Leonel Sohns: The file has been verified by OTRS, per the template at the Permission section. 1989 (talk) 19:38, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
This image was not a copyright violation. I took the photo myself and release it CC-BY-SA, and the subject is a work of an agency of the US Government (NASA) and is thus not subject to copyright. Please restore the file. Swpb (talk) 17:00, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Swpb: Restored I changed the license to NASA, as while you took the photo, it's derivative work. 1989 (talk) 18:34, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks. Swpb (talk) 14:44, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
Clarification
Hi @1989: .I just wanted to know how these 2 file can be deleted within the scope of 'F1'.🤔 The, Inbound387624725191552324.jpg & 'Inbound8869451841378899818.png' were uploaded by the author himself, because of my request.--Ahm masum (talk) 10:48, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Ahm masum: If the author allowed this, you can have them send an email to OTRS. 1989 (talk) 19:24, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
- @1989: . I Don't seeing the reason?
- Q1: The description of 'Inbound8869451841378899818.png' clearly mentioned 'Own work' under c.c licence. Why would any admin think otherwise?🤔
- Q2: I'm seaing his Account & all '7 edits' has been deleted. Why's that?
- Best regards.--Ahm masum (talk) 19:43, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
- It's been found elsewhere on the internet and generally those aren't allowed. 1989 (talk) 20:40, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
- 1.::@1989: I know that very well. On which basis you claiming that? What proof do you have that 'Inbound8869451841378899818.png' is a 'NETCOPYVIO' ??
- It's been found elsewhere on the internet and generally those aren't allowed. 1989 (talk) 20:40, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
- Best regards.--Ahm masum (talk) 19:43, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
- 2. You didn’t make Commons Delinker action which happens to
- made my 'Bengali Wikipedia' page a disaster. Do you deny it??--Ahm masum (talk) 19:36, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- Looks like a drawing of the copyvio you uploaded, which is derivative work of a non-free internet image. That isn't allowed either. As for ComonsDelinker, if it didn't delink the deleted files, not sure what the reason is. I have no control over it. 1989 (talk) 20:40, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- @1989: It was first published in 2 April, by the author Himself & before that it Didn't exist in the internet. I believe, the version he uploaded in the 'commons' had 'metadata' from 'facebook.com'. I also believe, sending email to OTRS could be hard for him, cause he has no experience about the 'Commons' environment, even thow it's not impossible.--Ahm masum (talk) 08:51, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
- They don't need to have experience on Commons to send an OTRS email regarding the images. All they have to do is follow the instructions shown at COM:OTRS. 1989 (talk) 18:34, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
I noticed you deleted those files at the recent changes on simplewiki. I think a longer explanation than "per nomination" should be provided to sum up all the deletion arguments in case anyone wants to skip the long text of discussion. ミラP 20:59, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

Will you please explain that why the file above mentioned have been deleted. I mean I have no doubt about your activity. But I am just a bit curious why the file have been deleted. It was just an ordinary photograph of a college. I humbly request you do not take any offence. A. Shohag 08:44, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
- @ShohagS: Hi there, no offense taken. It was deleted because it is derivative work of a non-free college logo. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. 1989talk 08:47, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Hello, why have you reverted my ask for speedy deletion of the logo? --Scroch (talk) 09:25, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
- A DR is currently opened for it, so there's no need to ask for copyvio speedy, unless it's blatant. 1989talk 09:29, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
- There is no movement on the request for a month and this is clearly an copyright violation --Scroch (talk) 15:11, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
- Looks below COM:TOO, which is why it was declined. DRs don't close right away. You will have to be patient. 1989talk 15:56, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Green copyright tag
Thanks for questioning. But I didn't understand what you are trying to say. I am simply trying to make a tag non-copyrighted restriction without any red copyright icon for only my personal pictures. Please, explain what did I do wrong and what you are trying to say. Thanks. A. Shohag 12:12, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
- There was no need to make a custom tag. {{Personality rights}} would of been fine. 1989talk 20:26, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
- But I want one just for my personal use. I don't think that there's certain restriction about that. I mean why can't I? A. Shohag 04:02, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
- Seems redundant to me, but I have gone ahead of undoing the change I made. 1989talk 11:50, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
- I like it. I was going to ask you for that one. Anyway, thank you very much. A. Shohag 04:19, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

Closing nomination
Hi 1989; I hope all is well. I'm currently trying to close a deletion nomination (the original comments were that more information was needed) Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by SerAntoniDeMiloni - the appropriate alterations have been made to ensure that the photos have the correct licences and extensive descriptions. The admin who nominated told me to contact another administrator to have the nomination closed. It would be super helpful if you'd be willing to have a look. Thanks! SerAntoniDeMiloni (talk) 14:31, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
- Some files require the author contacting OTRS. Since you say they have done so, you will have to wait until they are verified by OTRS. Also, keep in mind there are a lot more nominations than this that need to be closed. I for one in regards to your request will not be the one to do so. You will have to wait patiently until an admin volunteers to close the DR. 1989talk 16:12, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
- No worries. Thanks anyway. SerAntoniDeMiloni (talk) 17:38, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
Unblock requests
Hi! I unblocked User talk:呂承新 since it has been there for quite some time and because of the comments. Hope it's okay. There is another unblock request at User talk:Oooptt that is also a bit old. Are they related? --MGA73 (talk) 19:57, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
- Yes. See COM:AN#The blocking of User:吳哲源 and User:Oooptt. 1989talk 20:01, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
- Okay thanks a lot. So if you don't mind I would also unblock that account? --MGA73 (talk) 20:51, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

A short note
Hi. I do not agree with you on everything (heck, I do not agree with anybody on everything), but it is a sad thing that you were forced to leave like this. I begin to see that the most important aspect of being an admin is seeing when you have made a mistake and apologising for it. Here we have the situation, where an admin that has apologised has resigned, and the one who hasn't is still an admin. How is this even possible, I do not understand. Stay safe! ℺ Gone Postal (〠 ✉ • ✍ ⏿) 06:31, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
Thank you
Hey 1989, Sorry to see you resign, Thank you for everything you've done here over the years and thank you for your service here too,
+1 to what Gone Postal said - It's a shame the other party couldn't apologise and make amends but I guess that says more about them than it does about you.
Anyway thanks again for your service,
I wish you all the very best,
Take care,
Dave /// –Davey2010Talk 11:03, 22 August 2020 (UTC)

License review
Hello 1989, I see you voiced your opinion on my LR request, I appreciate that you opposed. True, I has copyvio messages stored, on my archives. I did alot of mistake, everybody learn from their mistakes, and I do have regret of what I did. But if you could spare few moments, do consider and look at my work, may be it then you can understand me, everyone doesn't have a second chance to fix the mess they created, I have and I'm working really hard and trying to correct my mistakes. Thanks, have a good days, stay safe. C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 02:54, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
