I explained my actions in the same discussion. All are my own uploads that done by user Matanya because the COM:Pattypan tool is broken. both criteria 4 and criteria 1 are suitable. -- Geagea (talk) 11:07, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a play tool, you say the right one might follow? This is very strange, but I let the other admins decide. On Village pump I agree with RZuo's comment. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 11:12, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not done, Geagea is an admin, so it's not possible to revoke the filemover right. Nor this is a right page for this type of discussions, please use COM:ANU. Thanks! -- CptViraj (talk) 12:43, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi.
I am requesting this access so that I can help in this regard. I have read the whole page Commons: File renaming and I am familiar with it. --Parsa 2au (talk) 13:21, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, to help with the backlog, or to rename other files? I don't really see where you can help. There are already, 1450+ file movers, not all active of course. For helping with the backlog, I rather see a more experienced user, but that's only my opinion. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 22:24, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,This is just your opinion, no I am not looking for access, I need this access and I can help. -- Parsa 2au (talk) 06:49, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think that was the question that Richardkiwi has asked you. What do you need this access for? ℺ Gone Postal ( ) 07:08, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I need this access to handle renaming requests. --Parsa 2au (talk) 09:51, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That's clear, but what exactly you need it for? You 'need' it, or do you 'want' it because you find it useful? It's no candy. If you have a good reason, I have no objection, but to help with the backlog, you need more experience. Even I, still make mistakes, as every file mover sometimes does, and that's why I'm curious why you want the rights. If you sometimes have a request, you can just place that request, and it will be handled, if it is by the guidelines. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 17:38, 10 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: I suppose more experience needed (File:بزرگراه شمالی کرج.jpg, File:Farzadfarzin111.jpg were declined) and I have found less than 10 renames in the last 1k edits, for example. rubin16 (talk) 07:57, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have a significant amount of old uploads that have names inconsistent with my current file name format. Thank you. Elise240SX (talk) 16:32, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Elise240SX:  Not done, while you're certainly a long-term and trusted contributer, I don't see any or significant number of rename requests made from your account, filemovers are usually required have prior experience with the renames. I suggest you to first start making rename requests, they'll be handled by existing filemovers or admins, would also suggest using RenameLink gadget as it's very easy with it. Please come back after some experience. Sorry! -- CptViraj (talk) 04:21, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to help with moving files in Commons Wikipedia. As I found some of the files in Commons Wikipedia may not adequately reflect their contents. I hope I can do this post not only move the file names by someone request, but also find the files which may not adequately reflect their contents to rename them by myself. Thank you. Fran1001hk (talk) 06:19, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not done This is actually close to vandalism. --Didym (talk) 19:19, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm mainly requesting this right to allow me to get edits on other language Wikis without me having to know the language so I can revert vandalism on those wikis without being stopped by edit filters. User:Nihonjoe was the one who told me to request this right. Thank you. Blaze Wolf (talk) 18:03, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I support Blaze Wolf in this request. ···日本穣 Talk to Nihonjoe 18:04, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Blaze Wolf: Filemover is not and should not be treated as a workaround to override local restrictions. You can start patrolling crosswiki using m:SWV for a few months before requesting m:GR, the appropriate solution. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 18:43, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh: I'm not attempting to override local restrictions. I'm attempting to get autoconfirmed and extended confirmed perms in other language Wiki's, however the issue is that the only language I know is English, so making edits in other language Wikis isn't possible for me. Unless I'm misunderstanding something. Blaze Wolf (talk) 18:47, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Blaze Wolf: I speak English at a intermediate level yet I'm a global rollbacker with edits on 400+ wikis. Vandals act nearly the same no matter where. Also, on most wiki, you can be autoconfirmed after 4 days since registration (by auto-attaching) without having to make any edits. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 18:51, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh: The issue is, vandals may act the same no matter what Wiki you're on, however I won't be able to correctly identify some edits as vandalism unless I speak the language (For example, if on a Japanese article a user added a bunch of text in Japanese that is either complete gibberish or is against the Wiki's policy, I wouldn't know if it's a constructive addition or not since I don't speak Japanese). Blaze Wolf (talk) 18:57, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Blaze Wolf: And that is when crosswiki patrollers leave things to local people. They mostly deal with simple vandalism, not complex cases. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 19:00, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh: I'm still struggling to understand. Blaze Wolf (talk) 19:03, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
We'll continue this discussion at your enwiki talk page. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 19:09, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not done - There are means and ways of reverting vandalism across various wikis and this isn't one of them. As NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh correctly hints you can either be a global rollbacker or be autoconfirmed on those wikis. NAC. –Davey2010Talk 23:55, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
File names are often mistaken, and there is a right to move files on the zh-wiki. Thank you. RyanCray (talk) 13:03, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • @RyanCray we usually expect >1000 edits on Commons, including some renaming requests to ensure that the user understands local policies.  Not done at the moment due to lack of contributions here rubin16 (talk) 13:51, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have been very active on Commons over the last year. Occasionally I see small typos or other mistakes in my own or other user's files. It would be convenient if I could fix these myself instead of bothering other users. I have read and understand Commons:File renaming. Thank you. FMSky (talk) 15:56, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have any examples of request for renames you have done for files? Also can you give a link to a file that requires a rename as per COM:FRC? Bidgee (talk) 22:52, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
ping @FMSky about the question above. In the latest 1k edits I have found just two rename actions: File:Terry Jones – Monty Python Live 02-07-14 (14621992853).jpg which eventually was renamed to a different name and successful File:Ferdinand Marcos 1966 (cropped).jpg. I would personally not grant the flag at the moment and would like to see more renaming requests before assigning a flag rubin16 (talk) 13:40, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have been very active on Commons over the 14 year. I have read and understand Commons:File renaming. Thank you!--Avner (talk) 18:21, 25 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I have uploaded many images by myself and others. Many of which require renaming. Especially these. Previously I used to request the file Movers, which takes a lot of time to get the response. If I have this right, I can do it in less time. I already have file mover rights in Bangla Wikipedia. I have read and understand Commons:File renaming. Thank you. Owais Al Qarni (talk) 08:52, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Comment [1] [2] two links just say nothing. I have found three request, they have filled via talk page, but this is not an standard procedure —MdsShakil (talk) 03:52, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not done I have scanned contributions for the latest 12 months but haven't found many requests there. Please, start with {{Rename}} requests first to give us a chance to see how you use the renaming policy rubin16 (talk) 13:42, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I do work that often identifies files with obvious misspellings in their name, which I'd like to easily be able to fix without jumping through hoops, eg. the many of the blue images in this category that have "loaction" instead of "location". Thank you. Jason Quinn (talk) 15:03, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Not done it is usually expected to have >1k edits here or a large number of justified renaming requests. Edit count is a little bit lower and while there were some renaming requests, I think there are too few of them to make a decision @Jason Quinn. Could you, please, use {{Rename}} for some time to show that you understand the policy and reapply later? rubin16 (talk) 09:32, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I want to ask to give me right of filemover since I create many charts for Wikipedia, and sometimes I understand that originally choosing by me pattern of naming is not good - I would want to change it to make my collections of charts more structured and understandable from title. Making dozens requests via {{Rename}} is not good behavior, and causes long waiting. I understand that changing of file names can break links, that goes from Wikipedia pages to these files, and undertake to fix them. I already have almost 4-year experience on editing Russian and English Wikipedias. All blockings that I got on Wikipedias are technical by IP (I can't explain why my IP-s periodically get in list of open proxy though they are direct IP-s from my Internet-providers) - 4-year history of my activity is open to explore. --Lady3mlnm (talk) 08:06, 17 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

had filemover before pandemic. Useful to have as I upload my own files, sometimes with wrong name. Thank you. Janwikifoto (talk) 14:50, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Note that logs at Special:UserRights/Janwikifoto do not confirm you had filemover before, unless I'm missing something. AutoEdits shows no moves in file namespace either (and only one move request, at least with RenameLink). 𝟙𝟤𝟯𝟺𝐪𝑤𝒆𝓇𝟷𝟮𝟥𝟜𝓺𝔴𝕖𝖗𝟰 (𝗍𝗮𝘭𝙠) 21:33, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea what FR1 is, so i am not gouing through that.. It is significantly much much easier for me, to be able to quickly and swiftly rename a file. I have been given FIle-Mover rights, LONG time ago, as "everything" stopped early 2020... pandemic. You see that I have uploaded several thopusand pictures, many taken WITH PRESS ACCREDITATIUION meaning regular users cannot do it. I own my own web server. I want to be able to administer my own pictures. Now I hgave spent oven an hour to get back file mover from antique times. Insteda of upload pictures and videos waiiting for it. Janwikifoto (talk) 16:37, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am in a llot of stress, and it is not going to change anytime soon. So, if you want to help, make ity easy and possible to the job of uploadin IN ONE GO, without "requesting name changes that might take forever and needs atttention to check it up".... Janwikifoto (talk) 16:50, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not done we need more examples of prior rename requests to evaluate whether you understand the local policy. There is no backlog in Category:Media requiring renaming, so, you won't have to wait forever. And I still haven't understood your comment that you had file mover before: you can check the log and this right was never assigned to you. rubin16 (talk) 05:51, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As part of my contribution to Wikipedia and it's subsidiaries, I upload images and sometimes maybe made in file/images descriptions. Granting me the privilege as a filemover will heart to correct the mistakes. Thank you. 160.119.228.228 09:09, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I rename several files with wrong file name. I have more than 1000 edit and have many rename request. So, I think I am eligible enough to apply for the the filemover right. Thank you. Wasiul Bahar (talk) 17:15, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Oppose You've clearly made a lot of requests before, especially on Oct. 16, but I'm going to have to oppose because it seems you don't have a thorough understanding of the file renaming guidelines. In your case, you requested a bunch of files for rename under criterion 3, when they were in fact supposed to be renamed per criterion 2. I only moved the files because they also fulfilled criterion 1, but I don't feel comfortable with you having file mover privileges. Also, no, edit count and solely being eligible to apply doesn't mean you should. --SHB2000 (talk) 10:49, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@SHB2000 Thanks for mentioning this. I'll be more careful while choosing the reason in future.. Wasiul Bahar (talk) 13:10, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Weak oppose - I think File:パラグライダー.jpg is ambiguous name. Do you have a reason for choosing this broad subject name? Didn't you have other choices such as File:パラグライダーで降りる人 2008712.jpg? Syunsyunminmin (talk) 08:57, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I write about the American Civil War on enwiki, and large number of the files uploaded to here relating to the war are the result of mass-uploads from various PD sources, so the titles are largely uninformative or scanner gibberish. To help cut down on needing to request minor spelling fixes, corrections, etc. SashiRolls (talk) 04:03, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. I'm trying to be a good egg over here on Commons and just thought it would be nice to lighten the load for the renamers. That said, if my request rate has gone down as much as you say, I'm perhaps less of a burden than I think. Still, I make dumb mistakes (one turned up on my talk page just now, even). I can withdraw this request if you prefer, SHB2000, I certainly have no complaints about renames... people have always been very helpful and quick. SashiRolls (talk) 15:22, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I'm not really concerned that you're blocked on enwiki, I'm only more concerned about the fact that file moves are (mostly) global and as you're blocked on enwiki, you won't be able to update filenames under your account (and that can be problematic). SHB2000 (talk) 01:57, 24 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That's a good point. I generally only ask for file renaming very shortly after uploading and don't add images to en.wp, but I understand that this would be a serious handicap for a file renamer. I should try & get myself unblocked one of these days and maybe ask again once that's done. :) SashiRolls (talk) 09:50, 24 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I do hope you'll eventually be unblocked (and will be happy to support then). SHB2000 (talk) 23:44, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
