Commons:Rinominare una categoria

Questa pagina contiene le istruzioni su come “rinominare” o “spostare” una categoria, in modo da associare un nome appropriato al tema trattato (in Commons:Categorie è presente la definizione di categoria e sono definite le istruzioni per nominare le categorie).

Commons ha diversi bot e script che possono aiutare nel processo. Se sia corretto o no utilizzarli dipende dal tipo di rinomina.

Siccome spostare tutti gli elementi si deve ancora fare manualmente, le "edit wars" sul nome corretto della categoria potrebbero essere complicate. Se hai dei dubbi su quale dovrebbe essere il nome corretto, chiedi prima consiglio agli altri. Discutere non costa molto. Spostare 300 elementi da A a B e viceversa, un po' di più.

Identificazione dell'argomento

Ciò che segue presuppone che la categoria che deve essere rinominata ha un unico argomento che può essere identificato e che questo argomento segue le politiche di Commons.

In caso contrario, le categorie dovrebbero essere svuotate e poi cancellate (secondo le Regole per la cancellazione). Esempi:

• Categoria:Persone coraggiose della Svizzera (argomento non specifico)
• Categoria:Sale e zucchero (accostamento inadeguato)
• Categoria:Sacchero (argomento inesistente)

Il titolo di una categoria sarà determinato dai seguenti parametri:

• nome attuale della categoria
• testo nella pagina della categoria
• collegamenti interwiki
• categorie superiori

I contenuti della categoria (le pagine categorizzate e i file) non importano, poichè ogni pagina o file dovrebbe essere stato categorizzato in concordanza con i soggetti appropriati, e questo processo non è legato ad ogni associazione ai nomi di questi soggetti. In particolare, la maggior parte dei contenuti di una categoria potrebbero essere categorizzati erroneamente.

Tipi di rinomina

Per "modifiche controverse", per favore discutine prima

• Piccole correzioni: correzione di errori di battitura, maiuscole o singolare/plurale (i nomi comuni dovrebbero essere al plurale, per esempio Categoria:Cose invece che Categoria:Cosa). Queste possono essere fatte dai bot senza intervento dalla comunità. Ricorda che sono accettate sia la dizione inglese che quella americana.
• Correzioni non ambigue: standardizzare il nome della categoria con le linee guida sulle lingue di Commons (attualmente: latino per le forme di vita, inglese per il resto) e i suggerimenti nelle linee guida per nominare una categoria. Aggiungi il template {{Category redirect}}; un bot sposterà il contenuto alla categoria corretta. Categorie che fanno solo da redirect non possono essere categorizzate. Se una categoria contiene molti elementi, considerala una correzione ambigua.
• Controversial fixes: where a category name has been in use for a long time or a lot of items, or where the naming policy is unspecific. Any category that has a corresponding Wikipedia article which has had a naming controversy over that article definitely falls into this lot. Tag these with a {{Move}} notice. Start a discussion on a talk page, and link to it from any other relevant categories, consider posting a note on Commons:Categorie in discussione (which is usually best done by clicking the "Nominate category for discussion" tool on the category page) and/or the Village pump; the latter should typically only be used for discussions affecting (roughly) ten or more categories or thousands of photos. Let consensus develop before going on with a bot rename.

Procedura per rinominare

If you want to do the move yourself, you need to do two things:

• Move the category page using "move" tab from the top bar of the category page
• Move the included pages (files, subcategories, galleries etc.) from the old category to the new category. You can use Cat-a-lot tool which can be activated in your personal preferences.

If appropriate, also mark the old category page for deletion as described below.

Bot

• User:CommonsDelinker/commands – put your requests on the talk page. Use the template {{move cat|Old name|New name|3=Explanation|user={{subst:REVISIONUSER}}}}.

Any bot doing category moving should receive community approval first as noted on the bot description page.

In cases where it's likely that a new user might try to use the old category by accident, it's best to retain it as a redirect. This might include alternatives that are equally valid or synonyms; older and outdated terms; translations; or some other correct expectable name for the category. In such cases, the old category should be marked permanently with a {{Category redirect}} template.

If the old category is a simple typo or you are the only person who ever used the category and you are the one fixing it up, it can safely be deleted. Request it for speedy deletion by marking it thus:

Don't delete categories that were fine (and had the correct name) for historic objects (notably countries or subdivisions): they have a distinct history and most often not the same geographic definition and we have a lot of historic documents and photos that relate to these historic entities. Use {{Category redirect|new category name}} instead (it is much easier to revert: a deletion is destructive, it removes all page history, and this just wastes the precious time spent in properly collecting the relevant documents!).

We cannot sort everything according to the most current modern definition that will mix everything, with various unrelated contents, forgetting that some regions were part of the history of another country: at least the redirects are easy to recover and we don't lose the useful distinctive information.
