Request: There are images of many computers and consoles with white or transparent background, and I think it would be nice to have one of the C65, too. This photo has the highest resolution compared to the rest. Remove smearing from a scan

Request: Several scans of ancient documents have a bad smear. I tried removing it by mixing channels:

Red: 0.2 green + blue
Green: 0.4 green + 0.65 blue
Blue: blue

as red is badly smeared, green is slightly smeared but has least noise, and blue is not smeared but has most noise. The smear is gone (as above) but there are some artifacts and the colour is not quite right. Can anyone do better? Cheers, cmglee (talk) 04:26, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

Remove polarizing filter effect from panorama

Request: This panorama was stitched together from images that were taken with a polarizing filter - the panorama is light in the left and gets dark towards right (= luminance ?) - this is the effect of the polarizer. Hi @Dianakc, I can't judge whether the stains on the forehead are of the person or caused by damage to the image. In total the quality is just too poor to make such statement. Wire removal and improvements

The background of the frames is a little bit transformed to suit each other and the second frame is slightly rotated. But that is not enough for smooth playback. While a crop can be made from File:The Navy-Yard at Brooklyn, New York, June, 1861 - NH 59308.tiff the quality is so poor and unsharp it hardly seem worthwhile. I think it would be better to use a crop from the original source that File:USS Vandalia (1828) sketch.jpg comes from as the quality is better though not a high resolution. I've done that and can upload it later. However, neither seem to be a satisfactory solution; a better source would be preferable. @KAVEBEAR: please respond. Sorry @KAVEBEAR: , no real improvement will be seen as there is such lack of detail in the tiff file and it is very unsharp, so all you will end up with would be a higher resolution image, less sharp and less detail. Ww2censor (talk) 10:30, 17 September 2016 (UTC)

I only just noticed this request here. I had already seen your request at w:WP:GL/PHOTO and uploaded a version. However, Ww2censor is correct that no real improvement could be made using the tiff. I used the original source given on the file page, not having seen your preference here. The result is an improvement, but not stellar - a better source would obviously be preferable. I'm not entirely sure why you don't like the idea of using this slightly improved version until/unless a better source is found, but, as I noted on the upload, please feel very free to revert if you don't prefer this version. --Begoon - talk 00:13, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

There's a limit to what I can do with that, without taking diabolical liberties - a better original would be ideal as that one is badly smeared. A black/white jpg with brighter midtones might give better thumbnails: File:Mirza Abu Taleb Khan retouch.jpg, but it's in the eye of the beholder... Someone else might do better. I haven't attempted to repair the smearing, because I didn't like the results I was getting. -- Begoon 08:34, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

I think that's a fair point - they should certainly be done as separate images if they are done - I assume KAVEBEAR wants to use them as portrait pics. At this point I can't get a decent result anyway without losing detail. I played with an FFT filter to try to remove some of the moire interference you get with, say, File:Princess Kaiulani, The Legends and Myths of Hawaii (1888) (cropped).jpg and the original, when viewing at 50% or full size. You can get something like File:Princess Kaiulani, The Legends and Myths of Hawaii (1888) (cropped and FFT).jpg without losing too much detail. I'm not an expert with Fourier transform filters and I didn't spend ages on it, so it might be possible to do that better. If that were greyscaled you'd lose most of the effect of the colour interference too: File:Princess Kaiulani, The Legends and Myths of Hawaii (1888) (cropped and FFT, greyscale).jpg. -- Begoon 09:21, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

Done the rest. I cleaned up all the images in that category (mostly coherent noise removal using FFT) and re-did the watermark removal a bit more thoroughly by recovering the watermark template. If there are any other images that need watermark removal, then you can find the template at [3] (plus another one). Try exporting it with no noise removal in the sky, or if that's not enough, with a tiny bit of noise added to the sky and with highest jpeg quality. This is not a realistic request, due to the large number of images. If you want to go through the images and add the {{Watermark}} template to the images with a watermark, that will add the images to the "Images with watermarks" maintenance category. If you want to make a request for a specific image you need for a article you're working on then you can make your request (ideally should be 1-3 images), but asking us to go through 300+ images, find the ones with watermarks and edit them all is not a realistic request. I clicked through a number of the images and many aren't being used in articles. Comment @Okki: What's wrong with just uploading one of the high resolution jpg versions, such as, https://cdn.loc.gov/service/pnp/pga/02700/02758v.jpg that looks like it does not need any work. Comment: essentially what you are referring to is an optical illusion. The photo is taken at an angle to the road and building, so you get the impression the building is tilted but it is not. Look at the trees and the perpendicular parts on the left of the building and you see they are vertical though perhaps there a very slight tilt showing on the left side, maybe it is a half degree off.
