First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper

  • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: {{bad name|Correct name}}

Willst Du jetzt etwa alle Bilder, die 2004 fotografiert wurden, unter der „Categorie:2004“ einsortieren? Welchen Sinn hat das? Das Fotografierjahr ist doch für Bilder ohne Zeitbezug, wie z.B. tump völlig unerheblich. Gruß --Botaurus stellaris 14:10, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ich habe gedacht, das wäre so vorgesehen, da ich auch in den Jahreskategorien viele Bilder von Dingen ohne direkten Zeitbezug gesehen habe (nicht nur Gebäude, auch z.B. ein Auto, ein Hund oder ein Ausstellungsstück in einem Museum, aber ganz so weit würde ich nicht gehen, zumindest nicht, wenn nichts vom Zeitgeschehen drumherum zu sehen ist), die einfach nur in diesem Jahr fotografiert wurden. Kannst du mir sagen, wo ich die Richtlinien dazu finde, wie diese Kategorien genau zu behandeln sind? Konnte auf den Kategorieseiten leider nichts entdecken. Ist mir auch unbekannt ob/wie das geht - ich lade solche Bilder immer einfach neu hoch mit korrigiertem Name, Binde die Neue dort ein wo die Alten waren ("usage" überprüfen) und lösche dann in den alten Bilder die Beschreibung und kleb ein {{bad name}} rein ... wenn's auch einfacher kann dann bitte mal melden ;o)
Apropos, neu hochladen: Ist das Tier wirklich auf so einen lila Untergrund herum gekrochen, oder wäre es ein Idee doch nochmal an den Farben zu drehen befor Du die Bilder neu hochlädst?

The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.

Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Grandy02. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Grandy02~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.

Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
