We need a new illustration of a hook turn to replace the above one as we determined that commercial use of the original was prohibited. It will be deleted soon.

@Pizza1016: , I am unhiding your request. I've worked on it resulting in File:Hook_turn_bicycle.png and File:Hook_turn_car.png. But especially for the latter I'm not completely satisfied with it, because I used cars with a different perspective it's not really clear the "flashes" refer to the turn signals. I don't really feel driven (best pun ever..) to further work on this soon. If someone wants to improve it they can use File:Hook_turn_layered.xcf. W3ird N3rd (talk) 22:12, 1 January 2018 (UTC)

The CoA I guess you are referring to uses {{PD-Coa-Germany}}. Obviously that can't apply here.

Graphist opinion(s): Do not work with the png files linked above. Use File:Wikipedia-logo-v2-sd.svg and File:Wikipedia-logo-v2-ur.svg instead. This request is so hard because its text has been converted to paths, so you can't just change the font. The -ur logo is using "Nafees Web Naskh font" according to the description. You should clean up and ask for deletion of the ones that are wrong. I had to change the name as there already existed both Wikipedia-logo-v2-sd and Wikipedia-logo-sd. It is really a mess.

@مھتاب احمد: To my understanding the reason for your request was that the other Sindhi logos that exist on commons is not correct;

file:Wikipedia-logo-v2-sd.png, file:Wikipedia-logo-sd (2).png, file:Wikipedia-logo-v2-sd.svg, file:Wikipedia-logo-sd.svg and maybe even more files.

Here Commons:Deletion_requests#Starting_requests you can read about how to do. The first way doesn't work on all the files as they have some protection on them so you will probably use the second way Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually. The most important thing is that you check all the different logos, to have duplicates or wrong logos is really bad. --Goran tek-en (talk) 11:55, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

@InfattiVedeteCheViDice: @W3ird N3rd: This is the best I can do - the font is slightly off. The First M of Melania has different upper serifs and I can't quite match it - it could be a printing error. Also I oculdn't find any official pictures other than the three provided. @Egmason: nice work. The "e pluribus unum" text still has some issues when you zoom in, but it's relatively minor. The real problem would seem to be that this SVG is 2.34MB and the way this emblem is displayed is not a way in which it is officially displayed. That's fine, but I wouldn't recommend it for use in an article. We don't know why InfattiVedeteCheViDice made this request though.. - Alexis Jazz 02:51, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

The large file size was a simple oversight. The bitmap image, presumably used as a trace/position guide in a layer, had accidentally been left in the finished output with its element hidden (display:none). It's easy to forget to remove hidden layers like this when creating final output - I've done similarly more than once. I can't help you with the circles, but you should add something more to the licensing information. It might be PD-shape, or maybe for some other reason it is in the public domain. I don't know, but you can ask for help at the village pump. Probably a good idea to fix that before anyone puts more work into creating an svg for that logo. Your input it appreciated, but it's a shame if all the work ends up being deleted due to licensing trouble. The image probably can be on Wikipedia anyway under fair use, but that's not enough for Commons. W3ird N3rd (talk) 14:12, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the input. I've changed the license. This is my own work (I do have loads of fonts so I can reproduce logos easily), but I understand there are licenses that suit these items best and I tend to use {{PD-textlogo}} just in case. --Fer1997 (talk) 15:28, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

I'm not an admin, I've done it manually. There's a bot called CommonsDelinker which can do this kind of substitution but it's usually very slow and I don't know whether it is active yet.--Carnby (talk) 10:57, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

Sorry, but the SVG is currently not good enough for general replace. That is also the reason why CommonsDelinker in general don't replace with SVG, because casual people/beginner think autotrace is sufficient for superseding (that is also the reason for the curios Commons_talk:Superseded_images_policy). -- User: Perhelion 13:12, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

Single line addition to existing SVG

Request: A fix is needed for this illustration: File:Hepatic structure2.svg and I don't have a way of doing it.; The diagram has (English) labels for several parts, with straight lines connecting them to the corresponding part. One of these labels is missing the line connecting it to the part. The label in question is "endothelial cell" and is located near the lower edge, just right of center. The cell body to which the indicator line should run is easily seen from a PLOS illustration from which this SVG is said to have been derived, which is located at http://journals.plos.org/plosbiology/article/figure?id=10.1371/journal.pbio.0030192.g011. Request: Add the text of the jpg-format-graphic in the svg-format-graphic with wikisyntax text.; I found out that text can be inserted into svg-graphics with the wikisyntax. I mean that the graphic stays the same and the text is written in wikisyntax. An example can be found on en:List_of_denominations_in_the_Latter_Day_Saint_movement#Categorizing_the_churches. Your example is not wikitext in the svg, it's a template (they've used one usually used for map labelling) which overlays the text on top of the graphic - en:Template:Mormon denomination tree. The graphic doesn't even have to be svg to do it the way they've done it, in fact in this particular case the template drops the text on top of the png which wikimedia renders from the svg. The graphic is just a "background". On my system the text is not particularly well aligned either. To emulate that example you'd need to create a similar template (and your vertically oriented/rotated text from the jpg is going to be a problem if you do it that way...) There is also en:Template:Annotated image which might give you a different way to approach it - see, in particular, the examples at: en:Template:Annotated image/doc/Samples. -- Begoon 17:28, 23 February 2018 (UTC)

Well, the second one is valid, but take, for instance, the third one, if you read [3] (or click the "invalid" link in the image tag) the error is "Line 17, Column 13: value of attribute "id" invalid: "1" cannot start a name", so if you change it to path id="a1" (or just omit the id as it's not used anywhere else) that will make it valid. I also used a customised optimisation script I have on the first 3 above, just to tidy them up, but that's not necessary just to get them to validate. (the first one here had 3 errors which were all listed at the W3C validation report) Note that I'm not touching the last one because if I fix it my preceding comments won't make sense - so that one is yours... -- Begoon 12:18, 17 March 2018 (UTC)

The author @BaseTurnComplete: also uploaded a PNG back in 2007, I've added it to the gallery. Using an old renderer but with antialias enabled, I've also created a new PNG. SVG is generally better suited for this kind of image though. W3ird N3rd (talk) 13:24, 17 January 2018 (UTC)

@Mliu92: There was no need to redraw it. I'm not saying you should do that, although it might help when creating an svg. Mostly by telling you it's not a standard font. Tracing it is probably a better way to go.

Well, if you can explain why somebody attempting (and probably failing, even if getting "very close") to accurately redraw a presumably trademarked logo of which we already have the owner's original version (that's the question I referred to) is necessary, desirable, or some kind of "improvement" I'd disagree. Amada44 pretty much got it right. The "ink" you speak of is a drop shadow in the pilot. The series 1 logo is different. You need to decide what exactly you want. The pilot logo (you already have it), the pilot logo with dropshadow and/or the series 1/series 2 logo. I duplicated the file and the info into File:Are You Being Served pilot logo black colour.svg. I do want black-coloured logos resembling the ones used for the series, including one with quotation marks for the whole series 1. I didn't vectorise it, because in my opinion you'd lose too much of the subtle weights of stroke and variations etc. Someone might want to try to do a good vectorisation of this, but I couldn't "improve" on the png. There is a version with a "plain" background in the file history of the png here: [4] which you can revert to if you like.
I do hope she didn't have to sign many documents on any given day - her poor hand would be aching... (joking apart, maybe there's a better term for this than "signature"? Ok, here's File:Tea Tsulukiani signature.svg, but you should really open new request(s) if you need any more. I'm actually not terribly keen on this trend we have of sticking people's signatures in their article as decorations, unless there's a particular significance to the signature itself, like there is with Mariam's, (and I don't really like vectorising them much because they are never 100% faithful that way). @Inops: As @Redrose64: said, just replace: d="m 1070,600 a 77.5,75 0 1 1 0,-10e-6" with d="m 1070,600 a 77.5,75 0 1 1 0,-10e-5". 10e-6 means: 10*10^(-6)=10^-5=0.00001, since most browser assumes it as zero it wont work, changing the value to 0.0001 helps. (As long as wiki renders it correctly everything is fine, the other way round is problematic.)

Request: FIFA have a slightly changed flag which they now use for Chinese Taipei, which can be seen here. It incorporates the rings from the Olympic flag, while the red and blue outside borders match FIFA's old flag. The size of the sun inside the blue circle has also been reduced. Cheers, S.A. @Mrmw: Thanks, though I don't think the Olympic flag should be overwritten, a seperate file is needed. I've now uploaded File:Flag of Chinese Taipei (FIFA).svg, however the width of the Olympic rings needs to be increased, could this be adjusted? Thanks, S.A. Julio (talk) 13:54, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

Looks much better, if you compare the file with FIFA's version there is just a very small difference with the size/location of the rings, as well as a minuscule alignment difference with the blue sun circle, not sure if this is able to be fixed. Thanks, S.A. Julio (talk) 08:33, 1 August 2018 (UTC)

in my opinion rings matches in svg almost perfect to png - in layers one above the other they fit apart a few pixels
you 'simplifyed' the file - why and how? you added a white background instead of transparency? you should not do this

I have to say I'm really sorry, some days ago I found File:Parabolic antenna types.svg and File:Parabolic antenna types2.svg, I really thought I had added a link to that to my request here, but I guess I forgot somehow. Those have all types in one image though and I prefer to have the dishes separate and facing 20-35 degrees upward (like a typical satellite dish in most places), so your work is a welcome addition. @Mrmw: I don't know. There are really many versions of the logo. This one looks similar to [6] this, but I think the video version that I requested is actually a flag version of the logo.[7]. But I cannot find the one that was put on the children's neck (like the pioneer in USSR). I am still finding that. If I found that, I would re-request the thing. Possible typo in a logo...?

The image [[:]] looks almost like the Canon, Inc. logo – but it has a superfluous 'n' both in the file name and in the contents.
Please verify if the company ever was using a logo with a doubled 'n' inside. If it is correct, please add some explanation in the file description, and if it's an obvious error either remove the additional character or the file (it's not used). --CiaPan (talk) 07:18, 5 July 2018 (UTC)

I don't know what the intentions of the uploader were (perhaps enabling or exposing counterfeiters like one of their other uploads File:Sanmeng Logo.svg in en:Counterfeit consumer goods and its translations), but I didn't see any products with the double 'n' in the little museum at Canon USA Corporate Headquarters when I visited it. I don't know. This emblem appeared three times in the card I received. This one, one medium size on a red background and one small size on a white background. Irish roads map

It might be possible to create a revised updated version of this commons image however some roads have been complete, such as the M11 on the east coast. Several others reasonably major roads are missing from this 2009 OpenStreetMap.

Request: Draw a new map showing the road system.; A current non-free image w:File:IrelandRoutes2016.png is up for deletion as it fails w:WP:NFCC#1 but a freely licenced image can be made based on the original image found at http://www.tii.ie/roads-tolling/our-road-network/ and does not require quite the same detail to convey the same idea. @Fourthords: Since librsvg 2.40.16 renders it more blurry than librsvg 2.40.2, this is not a scaling problem nor a resolution-problem, it is a problem, that the actual version of the renderer renders it too blurry. Since the file was uploaded before 2016 some resolution were rendered by the old library, but not-default-resolutions were rendered with the new renderer, therefore the difference dependent on the resolution. — Johannes Kalliauer - Talk | Contributions 22:43, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

The SVG doesn't look quite right, the edges are wrong. For the right shape you can refer to the logo from the video game cover or this screen from the intro of the series (edit: I just found out I could have simply linked it from w:File:DuckTales (Main title).jpg..). There are two major versions of the logo: one with light orange in the middle and darker towards the left and right (series) and one that goes from orange to yellow top to bottom (video game cover, albums). @TilmannR: thanks! They are great, much better than the old SVG! A few notes: I think the blue map should be removed. I don't think the blue map appears anywhere besides on the series intro. It may also push the logo over COM:TOO (I'm saving it on my computer though..). The color on File:DuckTales 80s logo.svg doesn't seem fully accurate. @Alexis Jazz: I'm glad you like them. I'm not sure about the ToO: I don't think a blue northern hemisphere is copyrightable. And putting two non-copyrightable things on top of each other isn't particularly creative either. I'm not a copyright expert though. @TilmannR: in general, we consider outlines of maps to be copyrightable. At least that's my experience. It doesn't really matter because the map is part of the title screen, not part of the logo as far as I know. They are super now, I will update some wikis.

The signs I made are not 100% accurate, because I couldn't find reliable sources. The specs on http://trafficsigns.ie ask for "the Transport Motorway alphabet", but the w:Motorway (typeface) has a rounded "3", so it's definitely not the correct one. I reduced the font size, so the word "wikipedia" doesn't exceed its rounded rectangle.

I also replaced the font "myriad roman" with a generic "sans-serif". Adobe Illustrator had put some kind of font data into the original file, but neither Commons' renderer nor common browsers know how to interpret it.

I just found out that many Wikipedias simply use the Russian version of this file, which is slightly better than the original version.

And now that I think about it, it seems unnecessary to translate this image, considering that the domain name is just an example and is basically language-independent.

@Mrmw: Hi. Before I make the other two variants I'd like to get some feedback. Is this sufficiently accurate? The blue in the original image is quite noisy. Are the exact colors specified somewhere? Is the file name okay? I've seen multiple naming conventions (e.g. abbreviating as "COA" or putting the name of the city first) and I'm not sure which one is currently preferred by the heraldry enthusiasts community. @TilmannR: Apparently, the last one from 1988 was an alternate version. There was a greater version of the COA from here. The holders and the base of the greater version of the COA can be seen here. This version dissapeared in 1990 after the Riga City Council of People's Deputies adopted an official description of the coat of arms. (Primarily the line thickness, the bottom of the harp and the letter "S" next to the unicorn's hoof.) Which version would you like to have hand-vectorized? @Jeromi Mikhael: Why? The text on the bottom has serifs. Using a sans serif font for the other text would be inconsistent. The text on Emblem of the Russian SFSR (1918-1920).svg has serifs, too. Since we didn't have a pic of the War of Resistance Victory Commemorative Medal ribbon with the metal device in the middle, I clipped one of the few I could find from the second pic, which is fortunately fairly high-res, if not somewhat over-exposed and not quite head-on. So, I produced my own SVG of the naked ribbon, using basic boilerplate code from others as a basis, but I don't have the skills to replicate the metal device. My tools are almost always Inkscape, SVGOMG, Notepad++, Checker & Validator. I currently don't have any tools for extracting SVGs from PDFs installed and considering the result of the original extraction, I didn't feel motivated to explore that option. [SVG-editing] service star build (Done)

As I mentioned, the file galleried above (file:bronze-service-star-3d-vector.svg), "When rendered smaller or larger, this SVG looks extraordinarily blurry". Mrmw (talk · contribs) explained that that fault is intrinsic to the file, and that I should instead request the creation of a new one w/o that deficiency.

Air Force Instruction 36-2803 describes a service star as "a bronze or silver five-pointed star, 3/16 inch in diameter worn on the suspension ribbon to denote subsequent awards." MilitaryClothing.com sells these devices, and images of then can be seen here, as well. I'm sure there're better resources out there.

Graphist opinion(s): I don't use Illustrator, so I don't know whether it has a setting for adding the type attribute to style nodes. You can fix these "broken" SVG files manually by opening them in a text editor (e.g. Notepad), searching for <style> (which tends to be near the beginning of the file), and replacing it with <style type="text/css">. Apparently (source: [14]) you can prevent Illustrator from using style nodes by choosing "Presentation Attributes" in the "Styling" drop-down menu in the "SVG Options" when using "File > Export > Export As...". @Ooswesthoesbes: I already tried that. The text has been converted to a path, so the actual font name isn't present. The style attribute says "font-family:Bitstream Vera Sans", but that is just an artifact from editing the file with Inkscape and certainly not correct. As far as I can tell it's none of the fonts officially supported by the SVG renderer [21]. I guess I could copy the "WIKIN S" from the official SVG and just make a 'U' and a 'J' by hand? @Jeff G.: I believe those browsers can't find the "Ubuntu Condensed" font. If it's replaced with any non-condensed font (e.g. regular "Ubuntu"), the width of each word increases, which causes the overlap. It's possible that the browser is confused by the space in the font's name. Changing it to "'Ubuntu Condensed'" (with quotes inside the quotes) might fix that. @TilmannR: I have the same issues with that file https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f9/MediaWiki_SVG_font_list_sans.svg on 3 browsers on my iPad (Safari, Puffin, and Chrome) and on 3 browsers on my Windows 10 laptop (Edge, Puffin, and Chrome). All those svg fonts display exactly the same for me. I have stayed away from Firefox for years because it won't let me display Adobe Flash content. @Patriccck and Bazi: I made a set of trophies, which can be distinguished by their bases: The metal bands represent binary numbers (thin band = 0, thick band = 1), which makes it trivial to add arbitrarily many levels of trophies in the future. I know, it's not perfect as she wrote a part of it on her dark hair. @Leoclerc: The size does matter when I create it. It's always better to be close to final/using size because thickness of lines, visibility of objects change a lot in different sizes. Librsvg (the program, which converts the uploaded SVGs into PNGs) renders text very inaccurately (example). If you want the text to look better, you can convert it to a path (Shift + Ctrl + C or Ctrl + K in Inkscape). More information: Help:SVG#Fonts_/_text. Note that your SVG still contains the original JPEG file. You should remove that before uploading. Tools like SVGOMG [27] can help you remove superfluous data. I'm sure you can do this!

Font-sizes below 20px should be avoided phab:T36947 (example)
this bug is already fixed by librsvg (phab:T36947#4078851), but Wikimedia did not update librsvg since 2016 phab:T193352
This file used font-family="Verdana", if you run Commons:Commons SVG Checker you will see that this font is not installed, and therefore has to be replaced with another font (Sans-fonts)

I am not a fan of path-text, also rendering might be more precise, but editing is more difficult. Therefore I like solutions such as: File:Essigsäuresynthesen.svg (You see the text-pathes on Wikipedia, the real text is moved 1000px to the right, and can easily be edited. You could also add display="none" to the text, but the real text should not be deleted, or both version (real-text and path-text) should be uploaded to easily update the SVGs.)

I deleted the JPEG file, but it can make sense to keep the source in the file, for retracing/corrections/filehistory/licensing/whatsoever.

@JoKalliauer: Thank you for clarifying. I wasn't aware that using a scaled down text with a large font-size fixes the kerning (hinting) issues.

The embedded JPEG contained slightly different text and a watermark consisting of a logo which might be copyrighted. I have no doubt that removing it was the right decision in this case. Exactly the same file is embedded in a later version of the same emblem, where the text matches precisely. It's also in an even later version of the emblem, where both the text and the colour match the JPEG version, which makes me believe that this was the original file, from which the other two were derived. Shouldn't User:Jam123 be listed as the author of all three files? TilmannR (talk) 18:54, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

I assume you mean f.e. the Version of 14. Okt. 2018 of Autodromo_Vallelunga_Vecchio.svg. If it is your local rendering of the file, than it is most likely becasue your operating system does not know font-family="Liberation Sans". You may ask why do we use "Liberation Sans" and not Arial: Since Wikipedia has to use fonts that are under free lizense. Liberation_(font and DejaVu are the most common free fonts. So how can you solve this issue: You can install the Liberation-Fonts from here. You find more infos on meta:SVG_fonts (available fonts, sources, Licenses, ...). If you want to tweak it for your personal PC you can change it to font-family="Liberation Sans,Arial,sans-serif", that means take first "Liberation Sans", but if not available it will take "Arial" and if both are not available it will take your default sans-serif-font.

I think it is imporatant that Wikimedia renders it correctly. And I personally can't support the usage of not-free fonts such as Arial, therfore I do rarely specify any fallback-fonts.

I have purged the cache and still encounter problems in all three files. I have installled on my system Liberation Sans, the "signature" now looks fixed, but the "Lunghezza del circuito maggiore/Lunghezza del vecchio circuito/Lunghezza del vecchio circuito + ch" and "200 m (656,16 ft)" render with a light condensed fallback fond that doesn't look like Liberation Sans at all, while "La larghezza della pista è proporzionale al circuito" renders in different ways on Autodromo Vallelunga.svg and Autodromo Vallelunga Vecchio.svg/Autodromo Vallelunga Vecchio + ch.svg (in these two file the font is bolder than the previous one). @Carnby: The "Lunghezza del circuito maggiore" text node has a transform="scale(.88577 1.129)" attribute. That might explain why it looks like "a light condensed fallback font".

The "La larghezza [...]" text is more interesting. It has a normal font weight in all images, when I view the SVGs directly, but it is bold in two of the rendered PNGs. In Autodromo Vallelunga.svg there's a font-weight="700" in the text node, but a font-weight="400" in the corresponding tspan node. In Autodromo Vallelunga Vecchio.svg and Autodromo Vallelunga Vecchio + ch.svg there's a font-weight="bold" in the text node, but a font-weight="normal" in the corresponding tspan node. It seems like the font-weight="normal" is ignored by the renderer. Maybe that's a bug. TilmannR (talk) 18:04, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

edit conflict @Carnby: Can you try this file (from File:Test.svg). The red uses transform="scale(.9 1.1)" (so shorter but higher) and the green is without deformation. I don't like text containing transform="scale(.9 1.1)", but the Author (@Gustavo Girardelli: ) seem to ensure have at specific height, but did not like to have such a long text. In my Opionon deformations are heterogeneous, ugly and bad to read. Therefore I would recomend to use Fonts like: "Arial Narrow" for Windows and "Ubuntu Condensed" for Wikimedia, therfore you might define: font-family="Ubuntu Condensed,Arial Narrow,Impact,Charcoal,sans-serif". I think librsvg is not misinterpeting, I think it is ignoring/removing this Attribute, which is in most cases correct (f.e.<svg><text><tspan font-weight="normal">TEXT</tspan></text></svg>). Thanks for the information. I added your group example to File:SVGTestBoldNormal.svg. If we are lucky, the bug might be in the font library rather than librsvg. It would be good if MediaWiki would start serving small SVG files directly rather than converting SVG to PNG. It would even shrink some SVG files because textPath would be available. Interestingly, it's like that in the pdf which you extracted it from, so technically we're altering the "official" version, but I'm guessing they didn't notice because they were working on a white background, so that seems ok. I added a white rectangle behind the logo elements and reduced the overall width by about 0.755px, which seemed the simplest 'fix' without fiddling with the paths of the other elements and maybe introducing unwanted other changes - see if that 'cures' the problem for you. -- Begoon 00:52, 1 December 2018 (UTC)

Request: Wikimedia Sverige (Sweden), UNESCO and the Wikimedia Foundation are working to collate a truly worldwide database of cultural heritage institutions (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) and their collections on Wikidata and other Wikimedia sites. The project will lay the groundwork for long term and sustainable collaboration between cultural organisations and the Wikimedia movement.

Please could you create a visually pleasing representation of the project FindingGLAMs with a CC0 license so that it easily can be used to promote the project. Preferably in .svg so that it easily can be scaled for various use. We are very happy to receive multiple options to choose from.

Some keywords that might help design the logo are; Database, Library, Archives, Global, Threatened, Mapping, Connecting, WebData, Institutions.

Would you prefer something more elaborate like Wpedia's puzzle globe? Or something more abstract like Wquote's or Wvoyage's logo? Invalid SVG

Done. The attribute "href" is in the namespace "xlink", so you have to use "xlink:href" for the embedded PNG data. (It would be preferable to use actual vector graphics instead of embedding a PNG.) TilmannR (talk) 11:12, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

This image is not a real SVG file and is just a wrapper containing one or more raster graphics without vector coding.
Using SVG as just a wrapper is undesirable.
Note: This template should be used if the SVG file contains only raster graphics. If the SVG file contains both vector and raster graphics, then use {{BadSVG}}.

Where did this “РЕСПУБЛИКАТА” come from? Shouldn’t it be “Өрөспүүбүлүкэтэ” as in the previously uploaded image? Thanks so much for that Tillman! I think it looks great in the French article. I'll see what they think. They didn't delete the english version like several of the other pics I uploaded for being too "pretty" and unencyclopedic, so I think it might be a stayer. Very helpful thankyou. No i was just asking if anyone would like to make a similar graphic. I do not have references for the percentages, any such reference would likely be dubious anyway.
