Questionable authorship claims based on the low resolution, missing metadata, and the uploader's history. The file appears at https://adventurousgopal.wordpress.com/2014/08/18/chhatrapati-shivaji-maharaj-vastu-sangrahalaya-mumbai-witnessing-the-true-indian-heritage/. That blog claims that the source of the image is Wikipedia without providing any more specific information. It could not be from this file given the date of publication, though. A very similar photo also appears at http://emmetammanna.blogspot.se/2011/06/harsha-pranathi-and-gauri-are-in-mumbai.html. It's not exactly the same photo, but given the similarity in the clouds, they must have been taken seconds apart. —LX (talk, contribs) 08:22, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

- Keep I have not found better versions of this file on the net, so I assume this can be a work by the uploader. Besides, there is a low-res version of this image at GBA website, which does not have copyright notices as well. - Fma12 (talk) 16:58, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- Comment A much higher-res version of the image can be found in this link: http://www.gba.gov.ar/images/autoridades/Daniel_Scioli2012Grande.jpg, that belongs to the Government of the Buenos Aires Province Official Web Portal (http://www.gba.gov.ar). Files in Category:Photographs by Daphne Borowski
[edit]All files in this category were taken by Daphne Borowski. EXIF data reads: Copyright holder: Daphne Borowski. She is a NYC based photographer, website www.borowskimullerphotographers.com. As seen in Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Photographs by David Plas (for files in Category:Files from Security & Defence Agenda Flickr stream) it is not uncommon to see organisations have an external photographer work events for them and allow that organisation to use those photos for PR needs whilst still holding copyright. In this instance, COM:PRP needs to be applied to these photos, or perhaps work on COM:OTRS being obtained. Unfortunately, many other photos in Category:Photographs by The Financial Times are the same and will be gone through.
After this DR, please delete the category as well if OTRS isn't obtained. Thanks Scott (Russavia)

copyrighted sculpture, no FoP in Italy Liliana-60 (talk) 13:14, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
Deleted: No FoP in Italy. Whether the sculptures can be uploaded or not, depends on the country where they are installed, see Commons:FOP for more details. Ymblanter (talk) 18:15, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

- Author of the photo, Piotr Fridberg, posted it as Public. See this link: Tamara Musakhanova, which under Creative Commons could be used for the public. Boxes12 (talk) 01:16, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- It is not the photo of artwok. It is the photo of artist, where I credited the author. I am sure, Piotr Fridberg, would be more than happy to find out that I used his work in the article about his aunt, Tamara Musakhanova. Boxes12 (talk) 01:35, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

No idea what this picture actually shows, which makes it hard to see any encyclopedic value. It is neither a caleidoscope (as the file name suggests) nor does it have any recognizeable connection to Mongolia (as the category and album name on flickr suggest). Apparently the whole album was blindly copied from flickr, without checking whether that actually makes sense for the specific image. Latebird (talk) 00:25, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- Weak Keep: Perhaps fix categorization. It appears to be some sort of Mosaic artwork, probably three-dimensional, perhaps it is the name of the work, who knows? But the image was in a set of 43 images, all apparently taken in Mongolia, so it probably was something that struck the photographer's fancy. I'd appreciate it if you'd follow policy and not say snarky things like "blindly copied from flickr", when 40 of the 43 images were fine, and of the three you challenged, there's only one that was obviously a painting, which I missed in the thumbnail view (over-saturated photoshopping can look pretty similar in thumbnail view) so mea culpa there, but the only thing "blind" is that my eyes are a half-century old, so be nice! Not sure the law on 3-D artwork in Mongolia for this item, FOP may or may not apply, so I'd be curious if you have a different rationale for deletion beyond "don't know what this is." Montanabw (talk) 04:04, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, it's possible that this is some kind of artwork. Which would then make the image another copyvio. Only looking at the thumbnails qualifies as "blindly" for me. It may not be a good idea to upload images without checking them at full resolution first. FOP in Mongolia only allows non-commercial use, which is not good enough for Commons. --Latebird (talk) 02:34, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- Well, that takes forever at the speed of DSL where I live; if there is nor FOP on the artwork, then I guess you gotta do what you gotta do, but it may also be a thousand-year old piece that would not be copyright anywhere, too. I will grant that we just don't know, but what harm is there in keeping it until it's figured out? Some of us have things like real life jobs and are volunteering to contribute to free knowledge in our spare time, so the occasional mistake should be given a "whoops", not a schoolmarmish scolding. My original sources were a mixture between data in the same article ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_diaspora ) where the map is, and in countries where the information is detailed enough are taking numbers from censuses from the Russian Wikipedia for all the provinces, oblasts, autonomous regions, etc(see below), censuses from the USA 2010 (numbers listed in http://www.census.gov/prod/cen2010/briefs/c2010br-05.pdf https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_American ), Australian 2011 census http://www.abs.gov.au/census , and Canada (numbers listed in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Canada ), and taking into account the number of non-European migrants in the countries of the EU https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_to_Europe .
Kazakhstan:
Each province was searched, I went to the russian article where ethnic compositions are given (in Russian). For example, the Akmola region:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regions_of_Kazakhstan https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%90%D0%BA%D0%BC%D0%BE%D0%BB%D0%B8%D0%BD%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B0%D1%8F_%D0%BE%D0%B1%D0%BB%D0%B0%D1%81%D1%82%D1%8C
Same with the rest (take all the provinces, look for them in the Russian wikipedia, etc): https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%90%D0%BA%D1%82%D1%8E%D0%B1%D0%B8%D0%BD%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B0%D1%8F_%D0%BE%D0%B1%D0%BB%D0%B0%D1%81%D1%82%D1%8C https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%90%D0%BB%D0%BC%D0%B0%D1%82%D0%B8%D0%BD%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B0%D1%8F_%D0%BE%D0%B1%D0%BB%D0%B0%D1%81%D1%82%D1%8C I continued with the rest.

Files in Category:Photographs by Thomas Oswald
[edit]All files in this category were taken by Thomas Oswald. EXIF data reads: © Thomas Oswald. Keep In this case "Drew Altizer photography" act as a photo agent, but not as an owner, since the character of the event depicted in the photograph. --Puramyun31 (talk) 07:47, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- Puramyun31, profressional photographers doing work for organisations is common, and they more often than not keep the copyright. You might like to contact Drew and ask if he is willing to CC-BY 2.0 licence the photos in this DR. With all credit/attribution going specifically to him. That's the only way to do this unfortunately. I've seen dozens upon dozens of such instances, sometimes the photographer agrees, sometimes they don't. I didn't realise that The Financial Times was a little sloppy with their Flickr until long after I uploaded them. :( 106.68.51.159 12:40, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- Keep The Financial Times is just asking that Drew Altizer be credited as the photographer. The FT would certainly know what their licenses mean and the request for Drew Altizer to be named as the photographer is a courtesy request. FT likely paid Drew to take the pictures--since he/she is a professional photographer--which means that FT owns the photos copyright, I would think. A mass DR seems premature. --Leoboudv (talk) 08:09, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
- Comment: If Drew denies he was paid by FT, then delete. --Leoboudv (talk) 08:11, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
- Leoboudv professional photographers generally do not transfer copyright for their works, particularly events photographers. A clearance from Drew Altizer will be required here. 60.228.92.42 17:52, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

- Keep I am inclined to keep these, but not enough so to actually close this without further discussion from colleagues. Since the Financial Times has posted these on Flickr with a CC license, if we delete these, we are saying that the Financial Times doesn't know what it is doing -- that it is CC licensing images to which it does not own the rights. While I am often on the other side of this argument with respect to small museums, I am inclined to believe that the FT does know what rights it actually has and that its CC license is OK. . - keep the intent seems clear to release to CC. without out an objection from photographer, or claim of copyright. EXIF data is not definitive, if concerning. photos not at his website [2] Slowking4♡Richard Arthur Norton's revenge 16:31, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Files in Category:Photographs by Marcel Giger
[edit]All files in this category were taken by Marcel Giger. EXIF data reads: Copyright holder: marcel giger / snow-world.ch promenade 14 CH - 7270 Davos Platz.

- Puramyun31, professional photographers doing work for organisations is common, and they more often than not keep the copyright. You might like to contact Kate and ask if she is willing to CC-BY 2.0 licence the photos in this DR. With all credit/attribution going specifically to her.

I tried to keep those, uploaded by others. Almost all deleted files were unused (I am not sure, maybe even all). Taivo (talk) 18:16, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Pleclown (talk) 21:49, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
- Just considering the auctioneer for a moment, there have been two rationales put forward for deletion:
- Lack of licence, as it's not the photographer's copyright. A good point according to European practice on 'work for hire', except that it's irrelevant. It is licensed at the Flickr account by the Financial Times (CC-by) who we do assume to be the rights holder.
- "Derivative work", when this is credibly de minimis.
- As such, I see no reason to delete.
- I would also note that Yann has pre-empted discussion of this DR and has already gone along with Russavia's viewpoint, in that he has unilaterally decided to crop the artwork off. Is this compatible with ToU in that he's furthering the aims of a banned user, in the absence of any DR decision regarding this. Is that now (per WMF's new absolute ruling on anyone aiding Russavia, which exceeds issues of copyright observance) a blocking offence? Andy Dingley (talk) 22:33, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
- Russavia doesn't mention any derivative work issues. But there are certainly such issues in the 4 files mentioned above. I think 2 of them are now OK. The other 2 have to be deleted. For the rest, these files are still on Flickr under a free license, so I doubt the the photographer didn't allow releasing them under a free license. Why not contacting the photographer if you have some doubt? Regards, Yann (talk) 08:19, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

No real source, found on the net before upload date. Google search 1999-2004
Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 07:10, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- Nomination here seems bogus, the only problem is poor formatting of the information and a search with impossible dates. Description text in Japanese says "Mubandが撮影。", which Google Translate tells me means "Muband shooting". As for the search, three out of the four results are impossible: gameonestore.com was registered in May 2014, and their "About Us" page says their company was founded in 2011. identi.li was registered in May 2011, and retrospelboxar.se in July 2012. vtemulation.net was registered early enough for the result to be potentially valid, but on the other hand the page was updated as recently as 2012 so I see no way to know when the image was added to it. Anomie (talk) 11:57, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- Why can't vtemulation.net be the source? The updates don't say anything about the first time the image was used. Inspecting the image closer, you find that it looks staged and very much in tune with other tech photos of that time. It doesn't seem to be made by a non-professional. Muband shooting doesn't help either. What on earth is a mumand? A name? Could be the uploader or the photographer, or something totally different. The main point is: We have no reliable source. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 03:58, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
- Considering the other three results are blatantly wrong, I see no reason to think that the vtemulation.net result is any more reliable as an original date. Muband is ja:User:Muband, which is blatantly obvious from just looking at the page. Muband has uploaded a large number of such images; are you accusing him/her of being a serial copyright violator, or are you just another overzealous deletionist now trying to justify your mistake? This file was initially tagged by Urquhartnite as Speedy (speedydelete) and the most recent rationale was: (3.) Derivative work of non-free content. (British, or, English (English or Welsh), Scottish or Northern Ireland birth, adoption, marriage and death certificates are protected in the United Kingdom by British Crown copyright. British Government works are not by default automatically released into the public domain free of copyright in the United Kingdom.) Yann (talk) 14:22, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
Keep: The legal advice I received before uploading this file is that British death certificates are not Public Domain but are nevertheless allowed on Wikipedia under the Open Government Licence (OGL) provided that the names of any living persons (e.g. informant) have been redacted. See the official policy of the UK National Archives/GRO: Reproduction of Birth, Death and Marriage certificates (May 2014) [3]. In particular the FAQ on pp. 5-7.
Q: I'm publishing my family tree on the internet - I want to publish images of the certificates I have.
A: As long as there are no details about living individuals there is no problem about publishing the images of the certificates on your family tree website. Any modern certificates would be subject to the Data Protection Act, and would need the permission of any living named person prior to publication.
Q: I want to publish some certificates in a book I’m writing. Can I do this and do I need to get anyone's permission before I publish?
A: The layout of all certificates are protected by Crown Copyright, so if you are publishing these in a book or online publication you should acknowledge Crown Copyright (you don’t need to do this if you’re just placing them on Facebook or similar). You do not need to approach GRO or The National Archives for permission.
But do bear in mind that if any of the certificates relate to living individuals you need to consider the Data Protection Act provisions above and make sure you have their permission to publish.
This has been confirmed by written advice from an officer of the UK National Archives.

Thank you for your email enquiry dated April 2nd, 2015. You will need to be aware that the publication of the details of living individuals is prevented under the Data Protection Act, publishing the completed certificate you should be aware of this and obtain permission from any living person named. The certificates are protected by Crown copyright so any re-use in terms of adding the image to an online biography is permitted under the terms of the Open Government Licence (OGL), provided that the Data Protection issue has been addressed. [emphasis added]
The OGL is a free licence developed to enable freer use of government information and public sector information without the need for formal agreements or any registration transaction, This licence takes the form of a simple set of terms and conditions for re-use and can be viewed at www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/doc/open-government-licence/version/3/
I hope this information helps, but if you do have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with me again.

- Keep I agree that the guidance would seem to confirm the OGL license. The nomination reason is not quite correct -- there was no claim the file was public domain, but rather freely-licensed Crown Copyright (via the Open Government License). That does appear to be the case. I did restore the original license on the file page. Carl Lindberg (talk) 15:50, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- Keep Per Muzilon's explanation - the OGL seems valid, no claim of public domain. Gestumblindi (talk) 19:01, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- Comment There is further discussion, plus a response from the nominator, on File talk:Death Certificate of Evelyn Beatrice Hall.jpg. He does mention that it is not the National Archives but the GRO which issues certificates, but I think they are still subject to the OGL (and the guidance response specifically mentions permission is not needed from the GRO either). The OGL does not cover material which would violate the UK Data Protection Act 1998, which is about personal data, but generally only about living people -- it looks like mentions of living people have accordingly be redacted here, so I don't think that's an issue either. Carl Lindberg (talk) 14:43, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- Comment The nominator ("Urquhartnite") did not appear to accept the email dated 15 April 2015 from the National Archives' Information Policy Adviser (see box above). I have accordingly referred "Urquhartnite" to the National Archives' official policy document [4] which is clearly subtitled General Register Office [GRO] approved guidance. As this death certificate was originally published nearly 60 years ago it is very likely that the Informant, Certifying Physician, and Registrar are now also deceased. However, as I am unable to verify this I redacted the names of these three parties before uploading the scan. If required, I have additional written assurances from the National Archives that such redaction does comply with the UK Data Protection Act. Muzilon (talk) 18:10, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

Deleted, this is not a trusted user, I'll delete all of them. If camera data exist, then camera is usually different. There are also some collages, where source of every single image is not given or where some source files are deleted. Taivo (talk) 16:16, 3 September 2015 (UTC)

[edit]The previous mass DR from 07.2015 (closed today by @Taivo: ) kept uncontested by uploader who is continuing his uploads as if nothing had happened and... well, as I already said above: "Obs.: This is just the tip of the iceberg. There might more critical files." ---> after today identifying again uploads as copyvio (details at user talk) it´s difficult to believe that these remaining files would be own work: IMHO untrusted user uploading a bunch of copyrighted material (small/inconsistent resolutions, missing/inconsitent exif/multiple digicams) so these ones (per COM:PRP) can't be believed either.
And Flickrwashing per User talk:Tonyxy1992#File:沈抚生命之环.png is an absolute NO-GO.
Ignoring some uploads uploaded very shotly after taken date. In the nominated files around 10 different digicams were used (besides the no exif-files, mostly - if not all - in low res). All these critical files were uploaded in 2013.

- Not exactly. The original works of Jireček, Petrović, Popp, Pușcariu and Rosetti are reproduced by Mircea Cociu into Spațiul etnic românesc, ed. Militară, Bucharest 1993, ISBN 973-32-0367-X, but this original works are PD-old because authors died since more of 70 years. My drawing is different from each one of them and different from Cociu : it's a synthesis. Thank you for understanding, --Spiridon Ion Cepleanu (talk) 14:33, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
