Very poor quality and possibly a piss-take Guy 22:41, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- Note: For reference, file was previously up for deletion on the English Wikipedia; resulted in no consensus. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 01:31, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- Keep The "poor quality" has been debated at length on the talk page of the Bhutanese passport article, and the consensus has been to keep it as a part of the article. If editors voted to keep it a part of the article, deleting it wouldn't make much sense.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Et0048 (talk • contribs) 04:20, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
Its entirely possible its not intentionally trying to be weird, considering the speaker's native language is Dzongka, and it really does sound like this at times since it is a tonal language. Vowel intonation and length are incredibly important and its difficult for someone that learns non-tonal languages later on in life to completely ignore the urge. Though trying to explain this to most English speakers is sort of like trying to explain color to blind people, most of you simply won't get it.--Aionlux (talk) 05:50, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- Keep Sound file might be humorous, but the guy who reads it is literally the only native bhutanese audio file maker on the english wikipedia, as far as I can tell. Keep!--Shibbolethink (talk) 05:55, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- Keep I know that it sounds funny to English speakers, but it is not okay to take down this man's work on the basis that you find his accent funny. It is understandable, comprehensive and useful - we should not judge users by their accent. Keep!--LordManley (talk) 13:14, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- Keep There is no license issue on this file, and the decision on Wikipedia EN was to keep it. There is no reason to delete a file just because someone has a funny accent. Khoyobegenn (talk) 16:37, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
There's also a heavy autotune+reverb effect on his voice, which kind of reenforces the possibility of it being a joke, that's not something someone genuinely reading in their natural accent would do. Having said that, even if it is joke, if it's the only legit audio version of the page, then I guess it makes sense to keep--Manekdsilva (talk) 19:11, 20 March 2015 (UTC).
- Delete Too much autotune and reverb effect to be "natural". And even if it is the only audio version of the page, it is probably better to have no audio version at all, than a version the Internet is using since months to mock us (Imgur 1, 2, 3, and even Youtube). I'd like also to hear from the original uploader @KuchenZimjah: about his reading. Sannita - not just another it.wiki sysop 23:16, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- Keep I perceive it to be the case, judging by the sources provided by Sannita, that this sound-file not only provides an engaging and comprehensible audio version of the soundfile by a native Bhutanese citizen, but it's also provoked interest in Bhutan by many users of the internet. I therefore ask, doesn't that commend the file more than it condemns it? I do however echo Sannita's petition for a discussion with the original file uploader. He could provide some valuable context and insight on the matter. Kapitulasjon (talk) 09:24, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
- Keep It is a legitimate recording made with someone who has an accent. It would be nice if the creator didn't use voice-masking, but it is an understandable reading of the article. Removing the file because "it sounds funny" is childish and a bit racist.
—Kanegasi ☺C
00:24, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
- Keep It was already marked for deletion and survived the discussion, therefore it has already been "proven" to be legitimate. This file is the best thing we have for this article; and unless someone procures a reasonable replacement, I think it should stay. Hipufiamiumi (talk) 06:29, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
- Keep As explained above BabyJonas (talk) 06:49, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
- Keep Agreed with above. It has been nominated for deletion in the past, there's no reason to delete it now without a replacement. --Thayora (talk) 08:10, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
- Keep Seems like the uploader was having some fun with the audio, in his expressiveness. And some people are linking to this article online and having fun at his expense, but it remains a faithful reproduction of the article as it stood at the time of creation, and I see no reason for deletion. Bastique ☎ appelez-moi! 14:53, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
- Keep This is a good quality audio file, it should not be deleted. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 01:21, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- Delete Not because of the accent, but because of the quality of the recording. PlantRunner (talk) 02:37, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- Delete The speaker seems to have pronounced certain words in a comical manner intentionally, even if you take an accent into account. Now that a replacement is available below, this file can be replaced. Yogirox234 (talk) 12:03, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- Delete I can't believe people are sticking up for this. Don't say "oh it's his accent" because it's clearly a joke recording. He's probably reading all this and laughing at how much he's worked us all up. Please delete it, it's an embarrassment to have it on that page. And does such a small article even need a reading? Honestly. TravellerQLD (talk) 12:44, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

- Delete This was made for fun, it was obviously not read seriously. KungFuBeta (talk) 16:12, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- Delete Wikipedia, which is an international site and a proven standard platform to gather knowledge must have standard quality articles/files/images etc., in it's articles. This audio file which some may suggest as accent of the particular person is clearly an intention to make fun. Accent doesn't make the same word sound differently the second time! And people who can understand vocal English will probably understand written English. And one won't be in a deliberate state to understand this article just by hearing this funny audio. If an audio is to be included compulsorily in this article(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhutanese_passport) then there are many people who can speak good standard English! (If no one else is willing, I will) But please don't include this audio in the above article! And till a decision is taken on the fate of this audio, please don't include the audio... Jaaron95 (talk) 16:37, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- Keep. The file is of poor quality and I have argued against including it in the article on en.wp. Nevertheless, a significant number of editors on en.wp think that it should be included, and this demonstrates that it has educational value. —Mr. Granger (talk · contribs) 17:22, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- Delete This file's just bringing troll people, and it's getting viral, should be replaced for Macusercom's version. - MrcRjs (talk) 17:35, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- Delete This is autotune. Someone made fun of this. I've recorded an alternative in order to finally remove this sound file. Take a look: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Buthanese_Passport.ogg - Macusercom 21:24, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
- Keep The alternative version does not use the proper tones for Bhutanese words. Thus, the argument for replacing the original recording with the new one on the basis of the former's intonation sounding odd to speakers of Northern American and British varieties of English is self-defeating. - Heilige Krieger (talk) 13:37, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- Show me a Bhutanese person who speaks like that, and who has an autotuned voice naturally. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 17:42, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- Delete. No educational value. Unless somebody can tell how that is going to be used for educational purposes, I see no reason to keep it. For now, that has the only purpose of making fun of something.—Teles «Talk to me ˱C L @ S˲» 20:40, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- Delete - No educational value, the file is nowhere near an acceptable quality. It has no place on an encyclopedia whatsoever, and the arguments of pretty much every keep voter on enwp fell into "no other text-to-speech version exists" (obviously wrong), or even weaker rubbish. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 22:05, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- Delete Low quality recording due to echo. This was likely recorded using a low quality headset with the speakers on. This created an echo effect that makes the voice recording inaudible. Dillard421 (talk) 22:41, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- Keep although it's clearly a joke recording, but this is commons not wikipedia, the main purpose is: free content? or not. So if someone upload a funny image or sound file as own work, could we delete this file? of course not--Ibrahim.ID ♒ 03:26, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- Not exactly. Being free is not enough. Please, read "Commons:Project scope". Regards.—Teles «Talk to me ˱C L @ S˲» 03:32, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- Keep: Here's an educational purpose: it will educate others on how not to do a Spoken Wikipedia article. Plus we could probably find some place in the humor sections for it. ViperSnake151 (talk) 06:49, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- Redo it Could not a native speaker redo this recording and have this moved to humor section (which I was not aware of). Also, this is really not matter of the consensus - the recording is of poor quality, it should not remain. --RockyMM (talk) 11:46, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- Delete Such things should belong to JokePedia, WikiJoke or something like that. It does not have Educational Value nor does it show professionalism. Funkyspyspy (talk) 14:44, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- Strong Keep The way I see it, if this person has made this file as a legitimate contribution and not a joke, then deleting it would be unproductive as this could just be the way he talks, and we could be shooing away one of the few Bhutanese users among us. I don't think the user is trying to vandalise the project as the user page doesn't seem out of the ordinary (even if this is vandalism, it's not too bad as nothing was deleted, only added). Everyone's main problem is with the way the person speaks (which admittedly is somewhat strange), but the content is there, giving it an educational aspect. Hshook (talk) 05:08, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- Also, if it's bringing lots of people here from other sites, a lot of whom wouldn't know anything about the subject presumably, then it is educating them in some way about the topic. So that could be another educational reason to keep it Hshook (talk) 05:13, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

Weird, unlikely and contradictory claims and no evidence to support the PD rationale. 2013 is not prior to 1923. The depicted person was born in 1906, so would have been in his teens in 1923, but appears significantly older in the photo. The author field lists two names: the subject of the photo and a French translator; it's unlikely that either of them created this photo (which does not appear to be a selfie) and even more unlikely that they pressed the shutter release button together. It also seems unlikely that the United States is the country of origin. —LX (talk, contribs) 21:44, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

I am nominating this for deletion based on the fact that the information supplied by the uploader is incorrect and that the image is now no longer used. I feel that the uploader, who has historally had problems using {{Self}} to avoid having to find proof that image are Public Domain, simply claimed that it was created by Heatherly McClellan and was public Domain. This isn't proof per Evidence Required. It took me 5 minutes to find the photo that he claimed was used to create this drawing, but he claimed was destroyed. (see File:Louis-Auguste Bertrand.jpg). Additionally, as the real photo of the guy is avaible, I feel that this image is not realistically useful for an educational purpose, being of such a low quality. Why would it ever be used? --ARTEST4ECHO talk 12:23, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Uploaded in good faith from flickr. This image depicts a sculpture on display at the en:Doha Corniche in Qatar and the flickr user that uploaded it is the official flickr account of a major Qatari sports magazine called "Doha Stadium Plus Qatar". Unfortunately, there is no freedom of panorama in Qatar and no indication that the magazine had the sculptor's permission for their derivative work, so we cannot use it as free content. Various images that are either low quality or lack sufficient context or explanation to render them useful in a manner compatible with Commons' educational purpose.
- File:Fig6-a.jpg - Apparently an assembly language debugger running under MS-DOS, but no context to make it more useful than that. We already have two similar in-use uploads of the same debugger by the same person, and this one doesn't add anything to them. Red box suggests that there was originally a specific purpose to this image, but there's no explanation here.
- File:Fig5-b.jpg - Same image without the red box; may be a good reason or context for it, but since uploader couldn't be bothered explaining that or providing a meaningful filename, that's irrelevant.
- File:Fig4-a.jpg - Looks like a diagram of a computer real-time clock, but no explanation given, so potential educational use limited.
- File:Fig2-b.jpg - Low-quality image of a BIOS setup screen. We already have similar better-quality images elsewhere, e.g. File:Award BIOS setup utility.png
- File:Fig1-b.jpg - Too low-resolution to read the writing on the chip beyond "Intel". Categorised by someone as a "BIOS chip", but no more info than that, and we have lots of better quality images of BIOS chips.
- File:Fig1.jpg - Ditto; "AWARD" only just legible, nothing else.

No evidence to support the claim that this was created by an officer or employee of the United States Federal Government. The source link does not work; presumably it's the same page that is now at http://www.southalabama.edu/mccallarchives/html/exhibit/crm/crmexhibit.htm. Dave Hamby, who is named as the author here, is named as the author of a different photo on that page (and there is no evidence that he is or was an officer or employee of the of the United States Federal Government). Likely false PD claims. Content on Flickr is user-generated and not authored by Flickr.com itself, as claimed by the uploader. Releasing photos into the public domain is not an option offered to regular Flickr users. The photo no longer exists on Flickr, but all other photos by the same Flickr user are marked "© All Rights Reserved". The permission field states that the file was "found on image search engine" – which is obviously not evidence of permission to release it into the public domain. —LX (talk, contribs) 21:58, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

- Not sure I expressed myself clearly enough : File:George_Charles_Beresford_-_Virginia_Woolf_in_1902.jpg and File:Virginia Woolf by George Charles Beresford (1902).jpg are two different pictures. Though File:George_Charles_Beresford_-_Virginia_Woolf_in_1902.jpg has a better resolution, it does not have the textural quality one would expect from a platinium print. File:Woolf by Beresford 2.jpg is more pictorialist and arguably more suggestive and File:Woolf by Beresford b.jpg has a higher resolution without artefacts hiding the platinium grain. Cheers, — Racconish 📥 07:36, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- There are actually a number of photographs Beresford took in the same session. The NPG website refers to "a sequence of four from this sitting owned by the National Portrait Gallery". The most famous, reproduced on a UK stamp, is File:Woolf by Beresford.jpg ; the most charming, IMO, File:Woolf by Beresford 2.jpg due to the 3/4 position of the model; and, still IMO, File:George_Charles_Beresford_-_Virginia_Woolf_in_1902.jpg is less "ethereal" (to use NPG's term) one, partly due to the treatment of the image and partly to the position of the model in the picture. In any case, to clarify the matter, see below a gallery of the 6 different shots existing on Commons.— Racconish 📥 09:45, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- Well, in any case, the one under discussion seems fairly low quality compared to Woolf by Beresford 2. I think all the remainder should be kept, though.

Copyright on the painting just expired in Europe, but in the US it is still copyrighted (that darned URAA again). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:55, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- I'm definitely not an expert, neither on the URAA issue nor on WMF policies on the subject. What do you do of m:Legal/Wikimedia Server Location and Free Knowledge and Commons:Massive restoration of deleted images by the URAA? --Eusebius (talk) 06:51, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- COM:URAA says that this should be evaluated carefully. Since the PD status of the painting in France didn't occur until the beginning of 2015, well after the URAA was instated in 1996, I doubt there's much doubt. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:03, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- Another element (not an argument though, I am definitely not competent here): Kandinsky died in 1944. The 70pma copyright duration was introduced in France only in 1997 (it was 50pma before that). Does it mean that from 1995 to 1997, Kandinsky's works were in the public domain in France, only to be protected again after that? I guess it is a classical, troll-prone issue and Kandinsky is not the only one impacted, but I have no idea about the interpretation in French law, let alone the impact on URAA. --Eusebius (talk) 15:52, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- D'oh! I didn't realize that. That makes this free in the US, as the URAA was only applied once, in 1996 for France. If in France this was PD in 1996, then the URAA would not have been applied. It would not have been applied after French copyright was extended, either. Consider this withdrawn (though we should still note the copyright of the underlying work). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:15, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- And I've added a note on the status of the painting. I am so happy to be wrong! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:23, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- It's not even that simple I'm afraid: this law was partly retroactive. It was published in 1997, but its effects started on July 1st 1995. It states that works already in the public domain on July 1st 1995 (Kandinsky's work included) don't get protected again, unless they were already protected, before that date, in any country of the European Community... Is there a country of the CEE which had a protection duration longer than 50pma in 1995? No idea. --Eusebius (talk) 16:25, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- I don't think that, from the US standpoint, the retroactive application of the 1997 law would have affected the URAA law. Either way, IMHO (and IANAL) there's not enough doubt that the image is free in the US to require deletion (the "significant doubt" part of COM:URAA). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:28, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- COM:URAA has "in some cases countries have extended their copyright terms after the relevant URAA date; the copyright term in effect on the URAA date is the one that matters for working out whether a work was in copyright on that date", which... is actually ambiguous in this case, though I still think the current notice is correct. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:33, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

This self-created map without any sources seems to be a fake. The principality had neither definite territory nor any borders. In literature there is no information about a concrete territory of this attempt of statehood. That’s why there also exist no map about the principality. -The boundaries of this "Pindus principality" never have precisely fixed, so all maps (as the original of 1942) are approximative;
-The "Pindus principality" was a revendication recognised by anyone, not a real state de facto or de jure. Regards, --Spiridon Ion Cepleanu (talk) 17:48, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

- Sorry, you are not a hoaxer, but the map is just fantasy. But some people thought it shows reality and put it in articles. --Otberg (talk) 18:28, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- If you think that the other wikis should remove the map from the articles, I suggest that you (or other like-minded editors who speak the wikis' respective languages) start a discussion on each wiki to remove it. But as long as it is used in at least one wiki, it is automatically within scope on Commons.
- By the way, I notice that the fr.wikipedia article that uses this image says "Cet 'état' n'a jamais eu d'existence réelle sur le terrain et ses frontières n'ont jamais été clairement définies." They certainly don't seem to be presenting these borders as reality—indeed, they seem to agree with your statement above that "the principality had neither definite territory nor any borders." —Mr. Granger (talk · contribs) 18:42, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- If you are concerned about Commons hosting an inaccurate map, rest assured that this would not be the only one. In fact, Commons has an entire category for inaccurate maps, including nine maps showing a single nonexistent river! —Mr. Granger (talk · contribs) 19:00, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- The idea that commons spreads disinformation is suprising for me. --Otberg (talk) 19:13, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- Not for me. A lot of pictures aren't authentic, made by persons not informed about the real context of a time or a domain, as [6] (unique source: Hancock's books, but in this time the roman script were not in use in Wallachia and the title is a calque from the english syntagma Gypsy slaves), or anachronic, as [7] (the border here showed in Bukovina as a 1918 claim of the WUPR were in the facts created June 28, 1940). And this pictures have a large utilisation, in many articles. This is for me an additional reason to be agree with the deletion, because even if my map isn't "just" fanatasy, it is approximative, and my duty isn't to add approximations in this "big building site" where we're working. --Spiridon Ion Cepleanu (talk) 09:02, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

- Well, I don't think that's the most helpful way to look at it. Examples of incorrect information, assuming they're labeled as such, can be educationally useful for illustrating common misconceptions, historical understandings, or unrealized proposals. I do think that incorrect maps and other inaccuracies should be clearly labeled, though, to avoid misleading the reader. So maybe some edits to clarify the description of this file would be a good idea. —Mr. Granger (talk · contribs) 19:35, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

fictitious and erroneous map
I fully appreciate the work and the logic of the person who created the map, however, it is fictitious, since there was never such a territory and can create confusion, as it shows the non-existent principality as if it were a fourth entity in the occupied Greece during the 2d world war. --FocalPoint (talk) 09:49, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

Moreover, it is labeled with {{Fictitious map}} to prevent confusion. —Mr. Granger (talk · contribs) 10:19, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
- This is not "fictitious and erroneous" but a copy since an original map of 1942 (background : the Aromanian areas in Balkans and added, the claims of Alcibiades Diamandis). But I'm agree with the deletion, because the boundaries of this "Pindus principality" never have precisely fixed, so all maps (as the original of 1942) are approximative, and the "Pindus principality" was a revendication recognised by anyone, not a real state de facto or de jure. Errors can happen, however I would expect the NPS to withdraw this document from the HAER if it were not public domain, in the same way as I have seen the Department of Defense do, which has resulted in us deleting some content from Commons (rarely). --Fæ (talk) 06:44, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Possible copyright violation. This diagram was excerpted from a pamphlet, but the complete pamphlet is not available to determine whether it was published with a copyright notice. Burden is on the uploader to verify PD status. — Ipoellet (talk) f.k.a. Werewombat 04:19, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Files uploaded by ANUSSA Event Planner (talk · contribs)
[edit]All images uploaded are logos for Cambodian event planning agencies. They are currently used in a gallery on en:Event Management In Cambodia. Given that the article lists all these companies as competitors, the uploader's claim that all of these logos are their own work seems highly suspect. It is likely that all are copyvios.

- Keep the images that are below the threshold of originality. In particular, File:Orange Logo.jpg, File:GetImage.aspx.jpg, and File:ANUSSA Logo.png are clearly {{PD-logo}}. —Mr. Granger (talk · contribs) 11:32, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- Comment The page on enwiki has been deleted as advertising. I wouldn't object to tagging the images that fall below the threshold of originality as {{PD-logo}} if they would still be considered as being within COM:SCOPE. Several of these logos, however, appear to be above that threshold and subject to copyright. Nick (talk) 00:38, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

I do not find any fresco of Samo. No source. Zoupan (talk) 05:14, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

- That is not a source. If this depicts Samo, it should be stated somewhere. If Samo is going to be further improved, there is a need of reliably sourced images; if this indeed is Samo, this image should be used in that article.--Zoupan (talk) 12:16, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

In most countries, all paintings, sculpture, architecture, text, and other creative works have copyrights which last for 70 years after the death of the creator. An image of a work that is still under copyright is a derivative work, and infringes on the copyright so that we cannot usually keep the image on Commons. In some countries, there is a special exception to the copyright law which allows such images under certain circumstances. We call that exception freedom of panorama (FOP). Unfortunately there is no applicable FOP exception in France. Therefore, unless the architect provides a free license, we cannot keep this image on Commons. . Jim . . . . - The e-mail was forwarded -- it did not come directly from the architect as we prefer, so there is the possibility that the e-mail from the architect is a forgery. I am inclined, however, to believe that the permission is real.
- However, it is not at all clear what the permission covers. The person who sent the request to the architect referred only to use of the image in the WP:EN article Centre_commercial_Beaugrenelle and nowhere else. As we all know, both Commons and WP:EN require that images be free for all use, anywhere, including commercial use. The permission here falls short of that, saying only:
- "Nous vous confirmons par la présente notre autorisation pour la publication d’une photo représentant le bâtiment Centre Commercial Beaugrenelle dont l’agence Valode & Pistre est l’architecte."
