This picture was a work for Wikigraphists of the French Graphics Lab. it was my proposition, but not the chosen one. there are other versions of this picture on commons. I found later that the uploader of the original picture was a well known copyvio maker, socks puppet master, banned from WP:fr, Wikinews, commons etc. I request it to be deleted cause i would like to avoid unexcessary risk, as this picture is said to be uploaded by me, and that it s not used. thx Lilyu (talk) 04:31, 4 August 2008 (UTC) Lilyu (talk) 04:31, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

It is a low quality version with changed metadata of http://veling-aviation.com/press-release.html (Article: Second ATR72-500 aircraft for Veling, 19 April 2007). sounds a bit strange, but it looks like it is photographed from the monitor with a low quality camera. Copyrught violation, the source page itself says it's copyrighted at the bottom. I believe the non-free version I uploaded at en.wikipedia w:Image:Coat of arms of South Africa.svg is the correct license. The claim he makes that "This image is ineligible for copyright and therefore in the public domain, because it consists entirely of information that is common property and contains no original authorship." is incorrect. In Japan films published after 1953 are copyrighted until 70 years later from its publication. 1955+70=2025 This film "Gero no Kubi" published in 1955 is copyrighted until 2025. --miya (talk) 12:34, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Delete, but the reason given by Miya-san is not appropriate. According to common belief of the Japanese Copyright Law, one cut of film is not treated as cinematographic work but as photographic work. Copyright protection for the photographic work published in 1955 is expired (see Template:PD-Japan-oldphoto). However, this image seems to be captured from TV program. Unauthorized reproduction of received TV program image infringes the neighboring rights of the broadcasting organization (Article 98). This problem is independent of its copyright status.--ZCU (talk) 14:40, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

- Well, all of the uploads had things such as "Dave Wilbur took picture Spokane Fairgrounds Speedway 1971. Not Copyrighted. Public domain. {{PD-self}}", so I can only assume that the images are scans (some, on Wikipedia at least, had white edges from bad cropping). Ian13 (talk) 12:38, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hello, These images are from en.wikipedia they have been released into public domain by it's author. Original uploader was User:Nellefson at en.wikipedia . These images were a candidate to be copied to Wikimedia commons so I just checked that they are in Public Domain copied the image information using CommonsHelper uploaded the image and went back to wikipedia and inserted the {{db-i8}} and {{subst:ncd}} tags to indicate that these images are now commons. That's all. To me the images look like a scan just like User:Ian13 said. OpinionPerson (talk) 13:50, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Indeed, and I wasn't intending to imply that you are at fault. I suspect, given the variety of picture authors however, that User:Nellefson does not hold the copyright to release them into the public domain (given the naivety shown by stating they are all 'Not copyrighted.' and providing no rationale for that). Ian13 (talk) 19:02, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hello, Yeah I know that you're not saying it was my fault. What would you say should we do know? Contact the original uploader, move the images back to wikipedia, or leave them on commons? OpinionPerson (talk) 20:52, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Well, the article that the images were used on has had the bulk of its content removed (including all the images) and the remaining stub is still up for deletion. All of the uploaded files which are still on en.Wikipedia are listed for deletion too. We can contact the original uploader, but really I doubt there is much to add as he isn't listed as the author of any images (I believe), so pd-self is obviously invalid. I think the files should just be deleted. Ian13 (talk) 21:25, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Additionally, at least one image which was identical was deleted previously as "Public Domain" wasn't sufficient for licensing. In fact, his talk page shows a trail of 9 deleted copyright issues of similar images. Ian13 (talk) 21:32, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah I agree, {{PD-SELF}} would be invalid, since he did not release the pictures into public domain, because the author did. We even don't know if the author released them into public domain, we've got no evidence. After I moved those Images to Commons I just tagged them for deletion and all of the images I tagged were deleted from Wikipedia. And because you said they are not used on any articles anymore then I think we should delete them. OpinionPerson (talk) 21:40, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Public domain. {{PD-self}}", so I can only assume that the images are scans (some, on Wikipedia at least, had white edges from bad cropping). Ian13 (talk) 12:38, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
Deleted. The original uploader did not react, so there still is no proof that the original authors released the images into PD. Cecil (talk) 12:11, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

- Motivations
I'm the uploader of all these pictures, and the author of the vast majority of them. I thought (since I'm the uploader) there wouldn't have been problems with a speedy deletion, but some users state the best way is a normal request of deletion because the images are no longer mine. When I uploaded the pictures I didn't know this policy, I thought I could require the removal whenever I wanted.
I want all those pictures to be deleted because they're low-quality and unuseful (some of my drawings are horrible). Some of them are not mine, they're from Photobucket, where the autor wrote they were free. Unfortunately the account on Photobucket no longer exists, and I can't proof there was a free license. Since I don't want to have problems, please delete also this set of pictures. --Nyo (talk) 11:04, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Comment I am reluctant to rule on all of these as a group. I might not have any particular objection to deletion of your original artworks if they are not used in any Wikimedia project, nor the third party images with difficult sourcing, but this group also includes photos of buildings (eg Image:Jikko church 3.PNG, Image:Jikko church 1.PNG) that seem well within project scope and potentially useful. -- Infrogmation (talk) 12:25, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Discussion
[edit]- Keep. As mentioned above many are used, many other are useful and some in the list wasn't even made by you and some wasn't even uploaded by you. I don't think such a blanket request is unsuitable. It would be better to take it in more manageable chunks or on a case by case basis. // Liftarn (talk)
- Delete Only a few pictures among the 300+ listed are used. You can keep those used an delete all the others. --Nyo (talk) 15:02, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- If they are within scope, not copyvios and not dupes or superseded then they should be kept. // Liftarn (talk) 15:32, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Some are not within scope, others (those from Photobucket) can be considered copyvios because the account is now down (and I suspect the photos of people are actual copyvios). --Nyo (talk) 15:37, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Delete Delete the most. Maybe keep only this ones which are used and aren't copyvios.--Avron (talk) 16:49, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Keep Proposed deletion is far too broad, and includes many images in use in multiple Wikimedia projects that I see no valid reason for deletion. (Some individual images or subsets within this group may or may not qualify for deletion, but this broad set as a whole certainly does not. I would suggest closure as keep; individual images or subsets may be relisted seperately as appropriate.) -- Infrogmation (talk) 22:12, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
Delete photobucket images Keep the rest (for now). The photobucket ones absolutely have to go, because the license on photobucket is not free enough (it terminates once the pictures are removed from the site). As for the rest, there are too many to consider at once. Nominate them in smaller chunks. 206.170.102.210 22:23, 4 August 2008 (UTC)- Some of the photobucked images have an OTRS permission as well so those should be kept. // Liftarn (talk) 20:06, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
Delete all, many of them are obviously copyvios. --87.9.84.58 15:41, 6 August 2008 (UTC)- Keep all, for now at least. Nyo asked me to view this discussion and delete these images but I can't feel comfortable doing. This request is far too broad. I've had a quick look through the comments here and a random pick of the images and it seems there is quite a variety of circumstances here. Some are used, some are not used but within project scope, some are from Photobucket with no evidence of the licensing status, and some appear to be from Photobucket with OTRS tickets although I've not reviewed these. There may well be some copyright violations within this bunch and I'll quite happily see those go but I think deleting all of the above images will go beyond addressing this issue. I'd therefore strongly suggest that these are kept for now and would encourage the nominator to create a new deletion request for smaller batches with similar issues. Adambro (talk) 19:53, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Delete Delete. --87.8.82.153 07:55, 14 August 2008 (UTC)- Why? The administrator closing this discussion will consider the arguments made in relation to the project's policies, simple votes have only limited merit. I note that this vote is this user's only contribution. Adambro (talk) 17:15, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- Keep until resubmitted in smaller bites... per the reasons above and my comment below. // FrankB 22:37, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- Comment I suggest the user resubmit in smaller groups. Someone has already done a lot of digging indicating which images have been used, so submit listings in smaller groups of thirty or so all those you'd rather change the licensing for is within reason. Aside from that, once one releases something, there really shouldn't be any going back. Technically, you've entered a binding contract, I would guess. As an institution, I would prefer to honor your wishes provided there is no opposition... but obviously when something is used, there is some and the foregoing has a lot of others. // FrankB 22:37, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- Many of those look very shaky on copyright grounds. Image:Priestess Seshen 1.PNG says "The upload of this picture is permitted by the Lycian Sanctuary" but if you follow the link you get "All material in this web site is copyrighted either by the author or the Lycian Sanctuary and may not be used, in any manner, without permission of the copyright holder." It's not used anyway, by all means delete it.
- Even where there are OTRS submissions I'm not necessarily convinced. Image:Spider Goddess 1.PNG is an artwork by Susan Boulet (1941-1997) and not the "Erkadio" claimed on the image description page. We should delete all the Erkadio images, there are so many different styles of images purportedly by Erkadio that it's clear that they can't all be by the same author. Frankly, I'd be inclined to just go with the uploader's request and Delete all the images - I doubt any licensing information here can be trusted. Haukurth (talk) 22:06, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- Another purported author with a vanished Photobucket collection is "Paganeen". Images include Image:Ukkousk goddess Ilmatar.PNG, Image:God Odin gray.PNG, Image:Cosmic union of the God and the Goddess.PNG, Image:Yggdrasil axis mundi 1.PNG. This is clearly just another collection of someone's favorite pictures, they're not works of the same artist. We should just go ahead and delete. Haukurth (talk) 22:13, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- I went ahead and deleted all the Paganeen images for starters. Image:God Odin gray.PNG is actually a 1984 work by Alan Lee. The other artworks were in different styles and very unlikely to be by the same person. None of the photographs had metadata. The Photobucket profile has vanished and the only witness, Nyo, wants the images deleted. I think the level of proof that these were free images was far below what we accept. Haukurth (talk) 19:15, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- Image:CeltismSymbol.PNG and Image:CeltismSymbolWhite.PNG are derivative of public domain images created by me from scratch, so there's no copyright problem, and they're part of matched icon sets, and so could be useful in that respect. So vote to Keep those two... AnonMoos (talk) 20:44, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
- Commons:Deletion requests/China images clinches it - time to delete all of them. Haukurth (talk) 09:44, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
Deleted. The vast majority of these images have been deleted already. I am deleting the rest based on the arguments by Haukurth. MichaelMaggs (talk) 18:01, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Probably faulty and misleading data. A user on de.WP emailed me about several problems with this map I created, most of them with the trustworthiness of the data source I used, but also systematic errors I made when allocating city districts from the source to the map. So this work of mine is like to be faulty and misleading, and I'd prefer to have it deleted. 790 (talk) 14:34, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
