Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

Image Tagging Image:Cho_Man-sik.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Cho_Man-sik.jpg. This image is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or send an email with copy of a written permission to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org).
Unless the permission information is given, the image may be speedy deleted after seven days. Thank you. Samulili 11:35, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. Image Tagging Image:Nguyen Trai.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Nguyen Trai.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

File source is not properly indicated: File:Zhengde.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Zhengde.jpg, is missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted.
If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 17:15, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

Warning
[edit]Do not revert admin action, like you did at File:世宗大王像圖.jpg. Jcb (talk) 14:38, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose unblocking, at least for as long as you don't address what you did wrong (reverting admin action and continuing to do so after warning). Jcb (talk) 16:31, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
- Your decline didn't follow the notice: explain why on its talk page.--Zhxy 519 (talk) 16:34, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
- For your information, I am an administrator at this project. That means that I can take a decision on a deletion nomination. My decision was to decline the nomination and the decline reason was in the edit summary. Jcb (talk) 22:02, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
- Then show me any rule page telling us that admin can make such a decline without explain in talk page. Especially you seems not reading reasons by me and other editors at all and giving a previous discussion but has nothing to do with this time.—Zhxy 519 (talk) 22:15, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
- Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion does not say that I should document the decline reason at the file talk page. It does say however not to tag a file for speedy deletion if it has survived a regular DR. Basically you seem to confuse two things. As a non-admin, you can have an opinion on a nomination for speedy deletion, but you are not allowed to remove it. You can voice your opinion at the talk page, so that the administrator who takes a decision will take your opinion into account. This is why the tag refers to the talk page. An administrator is in a position to take a decision on the tagging. Basically an administrator has three options: granting, converting to regular DR or declining. If an administrator declines speedy deletion and you disagree with that deletion, your only option is to start a regular DR ('nominate for deletion' from the left menu). Speedy deletion is only for obvious cases. As soon as an administrator declines speedy deletion, that is by itself sufficient indication that it's not an obvious case. - @Elcobbola: Since both you and Jcb have showed me the policy pages, I can do nothing but to accept the block. However, I wish you have showed me "the only option" like COM:AN, COM:VPC from first, as you should know that most of the editors don't live on keeping policies in mind. I even may can't help to consider this as an intended provoke, since you can see Jcb is really making a mistake. I ask you sincerely for taking measures in advance, to prevent editors like me being blocked without enough options provided.--Zhxy 519 (talk) 23:04, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
- Zhxy 519, you have a tenure of more than 10 years. Surely you know that warring over a template is not appropriate; it's not really genuine to imply this is an issue of pedantry. If you can just acknowledge that that behaviour was disruptive--as a matter of common sense, not just policy--and that you won't do it again going forward, I will unblock you. File:Sujian.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |
