Deletion of PR-template
[edit]Hi Vlaam,
as you have removed the PR-template from some cyclist portraits, I wonder whether you know the rationale behind that template. (As many here and on the wikipedias don't know that, I apologize, if you do.) In many jurisdictions/countries, a person has the right to decide whether a picture is taken from them and whether a picture of them is published in any form. This right is somewhat "diminished" in so-called public figures, aka celebrities. However, they don't loose that right in full extent as several courts have confirmed at least in may country.
Coming back to the Wikimedia world: if an image gets PR-tagged that doesn't influence its usability in Wikipedia-articles, but it shall lower the risk of abusive re-use of such an image by third parties. As all images here are free in regard to copyright, re-users can easily be deceived to think they can do what they want with such an image. Though that is not the case, many don't know. If such an abuse happens, the original image can easily be tracked back to Commons or the local Wikipedia and, though we may not be liable by law, our image will suffer. That's what this template shall at least try to prevent. --Túrelio 07:49, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
- Okay. I feared the pictures could not be used as usual. Vlaam 10:00, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT (talk) 06:09, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

Bonjour.

[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Winter, lanceur de poids 1930.JPG. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. Autopatrol given
[edit]Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. Morning Sunshine (talk) 12:01, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Dear Vlaam, yesterday I started to put these photo into alphabetical order. I would like to rename some of these photos, which are called "Paris-Roubaix" or "Tour de France", and rename then with the name of the cyclist. What do you think of that? --Nicola (talk) 08:56, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
- Hello ! If the renaming facilitates the search through the categories, I agree. Vlaam (talk) 11:41, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
- This is my aim :) I just asked you because many of the photos are linked with your gallery. I will start tonight. --Nicola (talk) 11:43, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
- The name of the race should remain in the title, because more pictures of the cyclist could be uploaded in the future (for example : "Tour de France 2432 - Martin Dupuis.JPG" should become "Martin Dupuis-Tour de France 2432.JPG", and not simply "Martin Dupuis.JPG"). [edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:31-7-1910, arrivée du Tour de France, Azzini, Ernest Paul, Ménager à leur arrivée.JPG.
If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
