Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.

The 1995 picture of poet Tapan Kumar Pradhan is an old picture. How can you again take 1995 picture in 2022? I am a publisher and the authors have submitted me their pictures for publication. Please note that Wikimedia Commons takes copyright rules and infringement very seriously. Files may only be uploaded and included if their copyright status meets the conditions stated in our licensing policy, and if their provenance is clearly documented. I am a publisher of books and magazines on art, literature and culture. The images uploaded by me have been published in our books and magazines with the consent of authors. I taken some of the pictures from our own publications. Some other pictures I have taken directly with my camera or smartphone. There is absolutely no copyright violation. Some of the pictures may appear similar to pictures already available on internet, only because they have been taken from the same source. Most of my pictures are 100% original, and they cannot be found anywhere on public domain. Some of the images I have painstakingly recreated from very old damaged photographs. NOTICE TO PUBLIC & WIKIPEDIA/WIKIMEDIA EDITORS

I am a publisher of books and journals on areas like literature, art, music and culture. This is the first time I am contributing to Wikimedia. I have thousands of images and videos on authors, artists and their works, which I would like to share freely on public domain for wider dissemination.

Many researchers have been approaching me for old photographs of writers, artists and art/literary events etc. I always provide them with all materials completely free of cost. I think people will benefit more if I share these material on public domain, so that they need not personally approach me for copies thereof.

Most of the images uploaded by me have been taken by me directly on my camera or smartphone. Some of the images have been taken from the books and magazines published by us. Some other images have been generated by painstaking restoration work on old, damaged photographs and artwork.

If anyone has any doubts about any of my uploads, kindly ask me for additional information or clarification. Kindly do not delete my uploads without first obtaining my inputs.

Please note that contacting you about files for deletion is only a courtesy, not a requirement. File deletion discussion

I put the same comment on all of your files so that they could be discussed in a single place, Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Subhrasingh. If you took all of those photos personally, then that's fine, you can say this on the request page, and unless anyone has a reason to doubt you, all of the files will be kept.

For the files that you're claiming to have restored on behalf of another photographer, you should name that photographer.

The fact that the files are a mix of your own photos and other people's, but that you chose to upload them all claimed as your own work, is the reason that this needs to be discussed and clarified. --Lord Belbury (talk) 18:30, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with book images?

I see possible copyright in all or nearly all the books edited by Tapan Kumar Pradhan that you have loaded to commons unless you ave authority to the artwork. As a book publisher if you have a link, COI etc to Tapan Kumar Pradhan that its an issue on commons but unless you actually created artwork for the books themselves it may be a copyright issue, for which if, assuming I am not mistaken, you have have copyright issues with that form of image before. Copyright violations Category:Hemangi Sharma Fraud Case and Category:Cyberabad Police

Hi. I am wondering why you have uploaded what looks to be copyright material to Commons in the two identified categories. Further, I see that there has been the deletion discussion Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_uploaded_by_Subhrasingh that deleted files, and I see that you have subsequently reuploaded those files. That is courting disaster and in breach of our policies and protocols. If you disagree with a consensus conversation and subsequent deletion by an administrator, then the process to follow is Commons:Undelete, NOT to just reupload. When you want to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category, best practice is to mark it with either:

{{SD|C2}} ("unuseful empty category") if it would be OK to re-create it in the future, given that appropriate content becomes available

{{SD|C1}} ("improperly named category") if it is an inappropriate category name that should not be reused (e.g. typos).

"C1" and "C2" come from Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion. You could also use of the following:

{{badname|current category name}}

{{speedy|empty, misspelled category name}}

The above templates (SD, speedy, Badname) expand to full speedy deletion requests.
In particular, this is better practice than just blanking the category page. Blanked categories end up on Special:UncategorizedCategories, which is largely handled by non-admins who cannot delete the categories in question.
