Sir Earnest Shackleton
[edit]Hello+ just a quick note regarding this -File:Shackleton Achievement.png- it’s actually wrong. File:Lucy Powell 2011.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

CropTool
[edit]In the future, I would appreciate it if you used CropTool to crop images. This tool allows users to crop images already on Commons without having to download the images. It also makes sure that, if necessary, the file has already passed license review. It also properly links the images to one another, in case an issue with them comes up later. Getting the License right to avoid deletions
[edit]Hi, with images like File:May & Sturgeon Downing Street 2017.jpg you would be better off using the correct license. When HMSO (which includes 10 Downing Street) releases an image it is not PD but OGL. The MOD boiler-plate restrictions (stated in the EXIF) are then moot, (moot in this legal sense means no longer relevant) thus making the image free to use on WC if it proclaims the before said OGL license. Use a template on WC such as Template:OGL. Ask for reinstatement of such images with the correct license. Also suggest that before you do, run this by User:Pigsonthewingas well. Got the impression that he too is pulling-his-hair-out with non UK nationals miss-interpreting UK copyright and simply deleting instead of helping you to fix them. Please use LicenseReview
[edit]Hi! Please append {{LicenseReview}} to a license tag when you upload a photo from external websites in future. For example, File:Philip May (Sitting) 2019.jpg could be one. It enables reviewers to confirm the license so it would not be questioned like your screenshots from UK Parliament's videos.--Roy17 (talk) 17:37, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
Copyright status: File:Cox Achievement.png
[edit]Copyright status: File:Cox Achievement.png
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Cox Achievement.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

File tagging File:Lord St John of Fawsley.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Lord St John of Fawsley.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Lord St John of Fawsley.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Theresa May in Skopje (Crop).jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Theresa May in Skopje (Crop).jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Members of the House of Lords images
[edit]Hi Robin, I saw that you have been adding the images of the members of the house of lords and house of commons to wikipedia articles, which I am so grateful for you doing. I saw that some of the images haven't been put onto the relevant wikipedia articles, so they still have older 2017 potraits, and I am not sure how to do it myself, so I was wondering if you might be able to add these images to their respective pages or would know someone who might be able to:

DrawShield software
[edit]Hello Robin. You may be aware of my efforts with the DrawShield software (Category:Valid SVG created with DrawShield). The system is still under development, but I think it is very promising.
Recently Karl Wilcox, developer of DrawShield, told me that he is bringing in two volunteers, one to work on the rendering engine, and the other on the parser. That leaves scope for someone to work over the SVG graphics.
You are certainly adept with heraldry software. If you'd like to learn more, mail me from my user page sidebar, or get directly to Karl on contact@drawshield.net.
I'm very interested in getting a fuller list of free SVG charges, and developing further the language for blazons, as a controlled vocabulary with annotations. It would be great to work on a reference collection for heraldry that was uniform. Charles Matthews (talk) 18:14, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

You did something similar with File:Coat of arms of James, Duke of Cambridge (1664-1667).png which you removed from Category:Coats of arms of James, Duke of Cambridge, again, seems like a perfect fit! Regards Lobsterthermidor (talk) 14:41, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
- Those two images you mentioned were the only files in the respective categories. et al are useful because there are lots of files which fit the description, but I think it's a bit cumbersome to have a separate category page that only contains one member file - so those are better placed directly into the next category up. Hello. Please do not overwrite existing files with substantially different content (see COM:OVERWRITE). The new full arms should have been uploaded as a separate file to keep the escutcheon-only version usable. If you don't mind I will split the upload history and create a new file like File:SirMichaelSydneyPerryFullArms.png. De728631 (talk) 00:19, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
I'd prefer you called it Sir Michael Sydney Perry Achievement.png.Robin S. Taylor (talk) 00:27, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
- No problem, I have moved it to File:Sir Michael Sydney Perry Achievement.png. De728631 (talk) 00:50, 6 November 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Baroness Evans of Bowes Park (Cap of Maintenance) 2022.png.
Thank you. |

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh's COA - GCStJ augmentation of honour - update
[edit]Hello Robin S. Taylor
Your COAs look fab, but seemingly you seem to be experiencing probs with licensing..? Shouldn't be so, unless you're uploading under the wrong licence?
Suffice to say that the laws of England and Wales are quite lenient/equitable incl. apropos the display of arms - in fact, much of the world follows its case law, which is why London remains such a centre of legal excellence. Chapter & verse could follow, but really can't be bothered (atm)!
Sodacan seems to have withdrawn his skills from Wikipedia so, in his absence, could you be so kind as to create an updated image of Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh then Countess of Wessex's armorial bearings (subsequently amended by Sodacan)? which should now display in chief the GCStJ augmentation of honour, viz. the arms of the Most Venerable Order of St John:
- - the Most Venerable Order of St John's arms are blazoned:
Gules on a Cross Argent in the first quarter a representation of the Royal Crest of England (upon a Royal Crown Proper a Lion statant guardant Or royally crowned Proper).
Qv. HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh's heraldic banner at the Priory Church of the Order of St John;
NB. - as a guide this is the SMOM augmentation in chief.
It would be fab if you could create an updated image of these accordingly; the GCVO insignia is optional (artist's licence), given that the Royal Victorian Order circlet surrounds the Shield.
Please advise - looking forward to hearing from you - many thanks.

Grampian Regional Council escutcheon
[edit]Greetings,
Would it be at all possible for you to redraw your Grampian Regional Council Escutcheon with the crown used in the Scottish Regional Council coats of arms?
This escutcheon: Grampian Regional Council escutcheon
combined with the crown from this coat of arms: Arms of Lothian Regional Council
In a similar style to this: Moray Council escutcheon
I would be a very happy person if you could do this, but I understand completely if you are not able to do this. SpeysideWikipedian (talk) 22:39, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
Hello, Please fix this
[edit]Hello @Robin S. Taylor, I would request you to fix the renaming request you have made at files File:Prime Minister Keir Starmer attends Remembrance Sunday (54129894844).jpg and File:Prime Minister Keir Starmer attends Remembrance Sunday (54129757868).jpg so that I could do it, otherwise you would have to wait for some admin to do it. The current targets already exist. ShaanSenguptaTalk 06:02, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- Done, also you could have informed me by pinging here that you have done it. Anyways. ShaanSenguptaTalk 08:09, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
