File:Star Metro Edmonton Cover, April 10 2018.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

- Kelapstick: It still should be acceptable under a certain criteria.. The newspaper shown was published for free and it being used at the top of the english wikipedia article Star Metro to provide brand recognition. You probably know the commons criteria better than me, could you suggest a criteria I can use for this image? - Vanstrat (talk) 18:54, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
- That it is provided to readers for free is irrelevant (I picked up a free one in Calgary today). It cannot be hosted at Commons unless it is freely licenced (so Star Metro would have to release it, which they likely will not). As I said on your wikipedia talk page, you will have to upload a local version on the english wikipedia, and give a proper fair use rationale for it (which is possible, it's what is done for most newspapers). Example is en:File:Toronto Star frontpage.jpg, which is hosted on English Wikipedia, since Commons does not host copyright material. --Kelapstick (talk) 19:04, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
- I am in the process of updating the rationale. Please give me a minute, I am trying to update. - Vanstrat (talk) 19:05, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
- The point is, it cannot be on Wikimedia Commons. It will be deleted. Regardless of what rationale you put on it. You will have to upload it to English Wikipedia directly. Wikimedia Commons (this website) will not host copyright material, and this is copyright material. --Kelapstick (talk) 19:08, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
- Oh I see. Sorry. I will upload there with proper rationale. - Vanstrat (talk) 19:10, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
- No worries, once you upload it there, I will have a look at it to make sure the templates are filled out properly. --Kelapstick (talk) 19:11, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

I suggested renaming three categories you started. Geo Swan (talk) 11:28, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
