Thanks for uploading File:Needle Galaxy 4565.jpeg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Needle Galaxy 4565
[edit]Hi, I processed the OTRS permissions for File:Needle Galaxy 4565.jpeg. However, it was pointed out to me that you uploaded a new version minutes before I processed the request, which means the email with the permission was send prior tot he file upload.
I think everything is fine, but can you shed some light (so to speak) on the situation?--Sphilbrick (talk) 14:45, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
- Then shall I request the author to sent one mote email?? Planet Herald (talk) 16:23, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
- That would be best, and the ideal situation is that the email would specifically list the file name. The first email referred to it generically, and I used AGF that it was the same image.
- If the subject line includes the OTRS ticket # 2013120110008158 it is help direct it to me.--Sphilbrick (talk) 16:45, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:Bird-eagle-flying-sky-wings-wallpaper.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Bird-eagle-flying-sky-wings-wallpaper.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
Yours sincerely, JuTa 20:35, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

File:La Couronne 16 Château Oisellerie tour&tourelle 2013.jpg
[edit]Hi ! You asked for a change concerning the title of "File:La Couronne 16 Château Oisellerie tour&tourelle 2013.jpg". I'm sorry, but this title is not "meaningless", as it is possible to notice by reading the description (in French and in English) underneath the picture . The only queer things are the number (16, which means "Charente" for French users), and the "&" linking to words without any space. I've been using numbers and "&" this way for almost two years on Commons. So do I have to suppress your request or would you be so kind as to suppress it yourself ? Thanks in advance. -- Sorry for my English. -- Cheers. --JLPC (talk) 14:05, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement
[edit]Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!
[edit]- ⧼Wikibase-terms/Benison⧽: Deutsch, Ελληνικά, English, français, magyar, italiano, македонски, 日本語, русский, svenska
Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]
Thanks,

File:1st Runner Up Miss Heritage.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Hi there. I deleted the image because the release statement said
- "Material featured on this Portal may be reproduced free of charge after taking proper permission by sending a mail to us. However, the material has to be reproduced accurately and not to be used in a derogatory manner or in a misleading context. Wherever the material is being published or issued to others, the source must be prominently acknowledged. However, the permission to reproduce this material shall not extend to any material which is identified as being copyright of a third party. Authorisation to reproduce such material must be obtained from the departments/copyright holders concerned." (my bolding)
That is, essentially, a no-derivatives license, which means that it's not considered freely licensed. Since Commons can only hold freely licensed works, we can't have that image here. Apologies, Sven Manguard Wha? 18:18, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker)IMO the above image could have gone to a deletion request rather than a no permission statement. However, the statement that no third party can lay claim to a derivative work is definitely a no-go in terms of copyright. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 18:50, 5 April 2014 (UTC)

Use of image on your user page
[edit]Hi Herald, you are currently using File:Comet-Hale-Bopp-29-03-1997 hires adj.jpg and it has the same problem as I have already described at your wikidata talk page. File:Modi at the 69th UN general assembly.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Barnard's Loop
[edit]Hello Herald,
The picture of Barnard's loop linked me back to your profile. Did you take the photo? If so, what focal length and f/ratio lens did you use?
Thanks, -Greg

[edit]Hello TH, regarding File:Lovejoy C 2014 Q2.jpg, I cannot locate any OTRS record for this file. Do you know the date of submission, any particular keywords I might look for? Can you confirm that an OTRS request has actually been submitted? Thanks for your help with this. — Huntster (t @ c) 18:48, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Huntster: Well, I have emailed him yesterday. He might be replying in a day or two. I added the template so as not to tag it for deletion. That's all. --The Herald 05:19, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
- Sure, thanks for the reply. — Huntster (t @ c) 08:42, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Herald. You may want to email the photographer again, as nothing has been received through OTRS that I can find. Make sure that he's sending the email to "permissions-commonswikimedia.org" and has linked the image file name somewhere in the email. This is a spectacular photograph and I would not like to see it deleted. — Huntster (t @ c) 17:18, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
- Huntster, Sorry to say that Rogelio is not ready for it now. May be some legal issues or the like. So have it CSD and may be later, he may do it and I'll upload it then. Plus, his other images for which I had mailed him, are featured in Wikipedia (en). Thanks. --The Herald 06:49, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
- Okay, if there are any other images besides the Comet Lovejoy image that need to be removed, list them here and I'll take care of the deletion. Let us hope it eventually works out. — Huntster (t @ c) 14:06, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
- No, only Lovejoy now. The others (three) are given CC-BY-SA-3.0 via OTRS by him. --The Herald 14:40, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

File:The Cambodian Tailorbird.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation.

- @LX I had already sent a mail to him three days before and am waiting for his reply. -The Herald the joy of the LORDmy strength 03:42, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
- If you hadn't received a reply, why did you claim that the copyright holder had released this under a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license? You need to obtain licensing permission before uploading. Unfortunately, this was non-free AFP photo, and the AFP does not release their content under a free license. The metadata clearly stated in all capital letters: "RESTRICTED TO EDITORIAL USE - MANDATORY CREDIT "AFP PHOTO / James Eaton / Birdtour Asia" NO MARKETING NO ADVERTISING CAMPAIGNS". —LX (talk, contribs) 05:49, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

File tagging File:Ken Crawford.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Ken Crawford.jpg.
The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Ken Crawford.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

[edit]You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2015 Picture of the Year contest.
Dear Benison,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2015 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the tenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2015) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
In Round 1, there were 1322 candidate images. There are 56 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category. In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 28 May 2016, 23:59:59 UTC.
Thanks,
-- Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 09:44, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

Rajpath
[edit]Hello, I noticed you have hosted to Wikipedia an image of the Rajpath designed by Edwin Lutyens. I am working with the Lutyens Trust for their comprehensive Gazetteer website of architect Sir Edwin Lutyens projects, and I would like to ask on the behalf of the Lutyens Trust to ask for permission to use the photograph of this Lutyens project for the Gazetteer website. If permissible, the photograph and you as photographer would be credited and this chain would serve as proof of agreement of image usage and permissions. And if so, what credit line would you like associated with your image? Thank you. VCannella3 (talk) 20:20, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
