[edit]Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!
[edit]- ⧼Wikibase-terms/Orgio89⧽: Deutsch, Ελληνικά, English, français, magyar, italiano, македонски, 日本語, русский, svenska
Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Dear Orgio89,
The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).
- In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
- In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)
We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:
- 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
- In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
- In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

We also sincerely thank to all 4070 voters for participating and we hope you will return for next year's contest in early 2015. We invite you to continue to participate in the Commons community by sharing your work.
Thanks,
the Picture of the Year committee

Duplicate/empty categories and overcategorizing
[edit]Hello Orgio89, please read about categories and about how this project is run before you edit dozens of files. Specifically:
- Do not create categories that are vague in scope (e.g. Category:Green energy)
- Check whether the category you want already exists (e.g. Category:Solar-powered aircraft exists, no need to create Category:Solar plane)
- Do not overcategorize (Commons:OVERCAT). Categories are not tags. If one file belongs to a category that is a sub-category of Category:Solar-powered vehicles, that is already enough.
In case you have doubts, ask around. This will save a lot of work down the line. Thanks, Ariadacapo (talk) 07:31, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
- Please read Commons:Categories#Over-categorization and try to respect our rules. If you disagree with any of them it is better to discuss your doubts in Commons:Village pump with other users instead of enforcing your own point of view. Ankry (talk) 19:38, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
- In my opinion deleting the categories (Category:Solar cell, Category:Solar car, Category:Technological development, Category:Solar technology) was the right decission:
- They were not categorized and too specific to be top-level categories
- I see no significant differences between Category:Solar cell, Category:Solar cells; existence of both is misleading, merging leads to overcategorizing
- Category:Solar technology is limited to only few of your images; if it includes everything reletes to solar technologies -> overcategorizing
- Category:Technological development? no reason for this category with only these few images; shoud be disputed over obout whot it is intended to contain. But if very narrow, the name is misteading; if broad -> overcategorizing again.

- Info Regarding your question about file:Tree_blooming_in_Mongolia_2014.png: The seems to be a problem with the collage you made, as stated in the deletion request: Unknown origin/authors of the photos, and "for Wikipedia usage only" remark in the description implies an invalid license
- Use for Wikipedia is an unacceptable restriction on Commons. Further, the origin of the 6 photos used for the collage is not clear.
- The category Trees in Central Asia should be Trees in Asia. The category Trees in Mongolia is fine, as long as it is used. We don't keep empty categories. Please read Com:Cat and Com:Overcat --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 12:47, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
- If me making clearly botanical study image making montages is wrong then why these photos are acceptable can you explain this?! https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Anemone_hepatica_var._japonica_color_variation.JPG or https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Asahidake_and_the_flowers_in_Ashahidake_2000-7-30.jpg. - The Mongolian law can be read here You can take a picture of a city, in which modern buildings are COM:DM, etc, or pictures of buildings, sculptures, etc that are COM:PD. Otherwise pictures of modern buildings should be nominated for deletion, as I just did here: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Blue Sky Tower Ulan Bator.jpg. You might want to review COM:CB as well. As for categories, it looks like yours were deleted because they were empty. They weren't sabotaged. You also seem to be rererring to Commons:Deletion requests/File:Tree blooming in Mongolia 2014.png. This had an unacceptable Wikipedia-only clause in it's license. See COM:L for acceptable licenses.
Your continual attacking of Savin, seeming refusual to even review law/policy/answers, and your repeat post at COM:AN after being warned, have caused me to put in place a short block. Your behavior needs to change and you need to reviw the policies I've linked, COM:Overcat, and Mongoloin FOP laws, or you may end up being blocked indefinitely. File tagging File:InfiniumAtAirStrip.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading File:InfiniumAtAirStrip.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. - That doesn't explain or excuse your constant(!) behavior of blaming others for your mistakes, reverting admins, and accusing others of vandalism. You got blocked for exactly the same behavior on the English and the German wiki. All I see is that you repeat the same pattern here. We have better things to do than to listen to your accusations of vandalism and the poor little user from Mongolia being harassed everywhere. You are around long enough on wikis, you should know better. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 02:28, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
- Especially those of command line instructions are not well written for people who speak different language than english. Maybe europeans easily get one anothers points since they have closer culture. So after finding some examples later I found out about the differences. On other wiki cases those are different separate issues and my whole opinions are just simply ignored by admins. Orgio89 (talk) 02:51, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

- My guess is the whole Wikipedia system lacks about clear dispute judging procedures here and due to different cultures there are a lot misunderstandings are occurring. If you check some random article especially linked to Mongolian history in English Wikipedia. You will see even tons of arguments and disputes all over. Because Chinese editors are systematically vandalising Mongolian history related articles in Wikipedia well due to some weird historic things. Just commenting about the general atmosphere. [edit]Copyright status: File:Fine arts high school students works in Mongolia 3.jpg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Fine arts high school students works in Mongolia 3.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 23:49, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- Copyright can be rather complicated for any country and Mongolia is no exception. As far as I can see Mongolian copyright generally lasts for 50 years after the death of the artist per Commons:Copyright rules by territory#Mongolia and there does not appear to be any Freedom of panorama exception for creative works publicly displayed per Commons:Freedom of panorama#Mongolia. You uploaded several more images of artworks and display posters that all have essentially the same problem. By the very fact of taking photograph, copyright is established by the photographer but they may license that image as they wish but the copyright belongs to them. However, photos of other peoples artworks or photos are a different matter and the original works are copyright to the artists but some country's laws are different. So, every painting in your photos is copyright to the individual artist and require their permission as well as the permission of the photographer. The same goes for the large display posters. Unfortunately, you have not given an evidence that each of the copyright holders of the original works has given permission for you to use their work in a photo. You may possibly get the opera to verify their permission for the display posters but even they may not own the copyright of the photos they used; copyright is not necessarily transferred to the user unless by a contractual arrangement. Being on public display outdoors does not mean they are freely licensed. Just to let you know that the OTRS Team who deal with copyright permissions are quite backlogged about 60 days, so even if permission emails are sent by the copyright holders, do not expect a quick result. If an image is deleted before the permissions are verified, that image will be restored again when it is cleared. I hope this explains why your image are getting problem notices but we take copyright issues very seriously for everyones protection. Good luck. Ww2censor (talk) 09:46, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Offline Wikipedia Outreach in Mongolia poster.jpg.
The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Offline Wikipedia Outreach in Mongolia poster.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2022 voting is open!
[edit]Read this message in your language
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Naadam 2014.jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Naadam 2014.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |
