Wrong map information

You added deliberate wrong information about status of Crimea[1]. According to international recognition (An according to recognition from Germany) Crimea is not russian even if it is under its legislation. For such territories separate indication needed. @Pbsouthwood: I'm of the opinion that categories should only contain pictures, which primary show, what the category says. So Category:Exclusive economic zones should only contain EEZ maps and no bycatch of other maps, which primary depict something else (like bioregions). And Category:Ecology is garbaged with 480 files, which loosely deal with "Ecology".--Kopiersperre (talk) 09:55, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

As a general principle this has some merit, but there are many pictures which have secondary depictions which may be significant, as I would consider the case with this one, where the EEZ is the delimiter of the bioregions shown. This would distinguish between this map and another option showing the bioregions of the continental shelf, or of the ocean to a greater distance offshore. Your efforts to categorize more precisely I completely support, but there are cases where more than one major category may be appropriate. I assume you are decimating the "Men with wristwatches" type categories which were so prevalent at one stage.

Is there a policy indicating the consensus regarding limiting categorization to primary subjects? I am not aware of one and would like to review the scope of the decision if it exists. Cheers, · · · Peter (Southwood) ^(talk): 12:13, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

@Pbsouthwood: There is Commons:Overcat as a policy. But there is no maximum number of categories for a file or a "Less is better"-Rule. My decision was not policy-based (policy enforcement here is low) but on my personal good sense.--Kopiersperre (talk) 12:35, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Transparent Backgrounds

Thanks for contacting me letting me know that inkscape can be used to correct the maligned/miscued hydrogen atoms and N atoms that was a fault with chemdraw when saving files to .svg format.

Another thing I noticed was that when I save my files, the background color is white. However, I did notice that for the majority of users it is actually transparent and not white. See for example the diagram I drew on the perazine page or on the triptan page. If one user has background in white and one has it in transparent then it can appear less tidy.

I just wanted to check if you knew whether there was something I could do to change from the white default to transparent?

Raster graphics

Hi, you recently added the {{Bad SVG}} template to Generic turbofan airplane.svg. I had never heard of raster graphics and vector graphics before, but I've just read/studied a little bit about it. I originally drawed this image myself on LibreOffice Draw and saved as an ODG (which, now I know, is vector graphics), but converted it to PNG and later to SVG, hence this is the possible reason why the first uploaded SVG file contains raster graphics. But this time I exported the ODG directly as a SVG and uploaded this new SVG file as a new version of (replacement for) Generic turbofan airplane.svg. So I believe that now it's an actual SVG (I mean, with actual vector graphics instead of raster).

However, I don't know how to check if this new file actually contains vectors or raster graphics. Do you know how I can do it? I'm under Linux and used GIMP to check it out, but GIMP won't tell me if it's raster or vector: it just asks me if I want to import the vectors, I select yes and nothing happens, so I'm assuming that it does have vectors and that they were imported without any errors, although I can't be sure about it because there's no available infobox telling me if the file is raster or vector, I mean, I'm unable to find a direct method to verify it. If you can at least verify if the new uploaded Generic turbofan airplane.svg is an actual SVG (a "good SVG", made up only with vectors) that would be much appreciated. @Sampayu: You're right. Now it's a true SVG. You can easily test it by opening a SVG file with an text editor. When the content is all text, than it's a true SVG. When you see something like xlink:href="data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUh[...can be very long...] " there is an embedded, Base64-encoded raster file.

Very convenient is opening SVGs directly in Commons when you've added the line importScript("User:Rillke/SVGedit.js"); to your common.js. See User:Rillke/SVGedit.js for reference.--Kopiersperre (talk) 18:51, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Erst einmal stören sie mich nicht - aber üblicherweise kommt nach dem Setzen eines solchen Bausteines jemand, der die Bilder dann in den Artikeln umtauscht. Aber es verursacht zusätzlichen ([[Datei:Gegruendet.png]] vs. [[Datei:Schlaegel und Eisen nach DIN 21800.svg|16px]] -> umständlich + mehr Quelltext), unnötigen (sieht auch nicht viel anders aus) Aufwand. Could you correct this graphic that you made?

As the prime source of these data points has since acknowledged that his data with respect to nuclear related bird deaths in the US was based on faulty data/massive errors? Basically he found out that the incident he used as data for nuclear, actually happened at a copper mine and had next to nothing to do with nuclear fission electricity.

Thus making the paper he wrote that this data comes from, completely misleading with respect to nuclear power's impact on birds and therefore it should be listed as, if not zero, close to zero, ~0, instead of the now known as faulty 0.33 & 0.416 figures.

Here he is stating as such. "… the study already tells you the numbers are very rough estimates that need to be improved. I even explicitly state this, as well, in the conclusion: ‘the rudimentary numbers presented here are intended to provoke further research and discussion,’ in the abstract ‘this paper should be respected as a preliminary assessment,’ and in the title of the study, which has the word ‘preliminary’ in it...you are correct that errors 1 and 2 are true..." The picture is not blurry, it's not low resolution and is does show the subject (the city center of Harderwijk) very clear. IBTD on the last argument (showing the subject). On the left the city perimeter is cut, and the lower up to center part ist blurred, most likely because the window is curved. Ich hoffe, ihr seid jetzt zufrieden. Man kann auch mal einen Benutzer, die ein paar tausend Bilder hochgeladen hat...und den man persönlich kennt ...auch mal ansprechen. Das nicht jedes Bild ein QI ist, ist schon klar. Für dieses Ergebnis kann man Euch nur beglückwünschen. Damit wäre auch das Stolpersteinprojekt in Köln weitgehend gestorben, das hauptsächlich von Markus betreut wurde. Ich könnte gerade mal wieder alles hinschmeißen. Muss so etwas wirklich sein? was habe ich dir denn angetan? Ich hatte keinen Hintergedanken, sondern habe unbesehen deines Benutzernamens ein offensichtlich unscharfes Bild gekennzeichnet (siehe auch einen Abschnitt weiter oben auf dieser Diskussionseite).

Im Gegensatz zur manchmal nötigenden Bausteinschubserei in der Wikipedia ist der Baustein blurry auf Commons einfach nur zur Kategorisierung von (unscharfen) Bildern da.

Hallo Kopiersperre, auch ich entschuldige mich für meinen unfreundlichen Ton hier.

Ich bin mir bewusst kein guter Fotograf zu sein und werde es auch nicht werden... Auch bin ich mir bewusst mit meinen Bildern keine Preise gewinnen zu können und auch an Auszeichnungsverfahren wie Quality Images nehme ich nicht teil...

Wenn ich Bilder in Artikel einbaue habe ich auch nichts dagegen wenn diese durch bessere Bilder ersetzt werden aber ich hab etwas dagegen wenn sich Commons, wie zuletzt in den WLM und WLE Diskussionen, mehr und mehr an Profifotografen richtet. Von der Unart, auf de.Wikipedia, der Bausteinschubserei mal ganz abgesehen...

Sorry aber ich verliere die Lust und die Motivation wenn hier auf Commons technische Hürden aufgestellt werden oder die de.Wikipedia typischen Nörgeleien umsichgreifen.

Ich werd mir erst mal ne Nachtruhe gönnen....

I did notice it was a particularly bad transfer job, screwing up a lot of formatting. Summer was chosen because for much of the country peak electricity use is in the summer and if you have a seasonal resource, like hydropower, it does not make much sense to say what it could deliver if it can not do that when it is needed. They still use the term, but it is not very clear how it is calculated for wind and solar. Last year the US installed 7286 MW of photovoltaics but EIA says the net summer capacity only increased by 5131 MW. AWEA reports that 8.6 GW of wind was installed last year (8600 MW), but EIA says 8346 MW was added. Close enough, but technically CO2 only has three significant digits so the sum of trace items should also only be to three significant digits. I summed the values in the chart in a spreadsheet and got:

• N2 78.084%
• O2 20.946%
• Ar 0.9340%

• CO2 0.0407%
• Ne 0.001818%
• He 0.000524%
• CH4 0.00018%
• Kr 0.000114%
• H2 0.000055%
  • Sum=0.043391% (instead of 0.04338%, but to the accuracy available is 0.0434%)
  • Total=100.007% (100.007391%)

As CO2 goes up, N2, O2 and Ar go down to bring the total to 100.00%, so could be 78.078%, 20.944%, 0.9339%. --Delphi234 (talk) 14:31, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

Hier müssen zwei verschiedene Tools unterschieden werden (mit ein klein wenig unterschiedlichen Programmiersprachen) die leider vermeintlich fast den identischen Namen haben: COM:GR (JavaScript) und COM:GlobalReplace (Java) (ich verwende nur noch Ersteres). Hier geht es offensichtlich um Zweiteres, dessen Entwicklung und Quellcode nun (nach Fastilys Abgang) auf Github festgehalten werden, demnach sind 4 Beitragende eingetragen: Fastily, MarcoFalke, Rillke und Steinsplitter, wobei mindestens die Hälfte momentan inaktiv zu sein scheint. Demnach kann man auch direkt bei Github Vorschläge und Fehler melden.

Die JavaScript-Variante (welche ebenfalls nicht dieses Feature besitzt) gestaltet sich wohl auch nicht weniger schwierig, da hier ebenfalls auf Module (Library Help:AjaxQuickDelete ) zurückgegriffen wird, welches ebenfalls seit Jahren nur noch von Rillke und evtl. McZusatz (besagter MarcoFalke) verwaltet wurde. Dieses Modul, welches für einen Großteil der administrativen Commons-Vorgänge verantwortlich ist, müsste angepasst werden. Das heißt eine Änderung wäre sehr kritisch und ich müsste mich erstmal in den komplexen Code einarbeiten, wofür ich momentan ebenfalls nicht die Zeit habe. LG

In der Tat ist die vorhergehend verlinkte Seite nicht die direkte Seite des Tools und auch nicht die Bezeichnung. Diese Funktion ist keine offizielle , evtl. (aus gutem Grund versteckt) ist es auch besser dies nicht so zu propagieren (bisher allerdings habe ich fast bei jeder Gelegenheit dieses erwähnt). Da ich eine größere Aktion vorhabe, bei der einige hundert SVGs bisher genutzte Rastergrafiken ersetzen werden, hatte ich auf dieses Script gehofft. Mann kann es freilich auch in meiner /common.js auslesen (da ich weiß das du die Grundzüge von JS sehr wohl verstehst), da ich dort noch einige Features erweitert habe (prüfen ob Zieldatei existiert, automatisches Erkennen der Namen bei Superseded-Templates. Womit das ganze Einloggen, extra Starten, Quell-/Ziel-Dateinamen Kopieren, spezifischeren Kommentar ausfüllen entfällt) kann ich dies eher empfehlen (dazu der Autor auch nicht optimales JS verwendet). importScript('User:Perhelion/JustReplace+.js'); Allerdings ist noch etwas Vorsicht bei den "neuen" Features meinerseits geboten (kann auch gerne gemeldet werden). ↔ User: Perhelion 09:37, 31 July 2016 (UTC)

Solar activity

You may not be aware that solar activity is no longer measured by oure sun spots. Scientists are now using an integrated solar dataset comprising of sun spots and cosmic rays (approximated by some isotopes). The late 20th century now looks very different. Please update the solar activity curve accordingly:
