Hello, I'm just curious. I observe you do some recategorization which moves images out of some categories and into other. I'm wondering if there are any concensus on how to do the categorization as you are going to get some huge categories with that scheme and some nearly empty. I moved things around a bit myself but tried to maintain a balanced topic tree.

A single church in a category will make a nearly empty ctegory while moving images out of a municipality and into the county will create a huge category. Mediawiki has a limits on number of items in a category of 1000 items, moving the municipalities into the county sets a limit on the number of images in a municipality of about 50 images. That is very low.

Opphavsrett

[edit]

(For norsk rett se åndsverkloven § 43a.) Kommentarer? Tskoge 01:08, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brukerdiskusjon:Mortendreier#Bruk_av_gamle_bilder
Eg la til Lars Hertervig (1830-1902) i lista di over kunstnarar. Med helsing frå --Gunnernett 11:55, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Egedius

[edit]

Sier Knut Berg i Norsk biografisk leksikon. --Orland 13:59, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is my understanding that we can still upload Werenskiold's images since they are in the public domain in the US, having been published before 1909. I've uploaded Image:Sigrid_and_olaf.jpg. Haukurth 10:18, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
See here: [1] This falls under "Works published outside the U.S. before July 1, 1909". Of course some of Werenskiold's other works may still be under copyright in the US if they were published after that date but I'm confident we can use his Heimskringla illustrations. I've put two of them to use here: [2] Haukurth 17:55, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image deletion warning Image:Harald_Sohlberg_Fra_Akershusvollen,_aften_1926.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Images put up for deletion

[edit]

Hi Jorunn, I noticed you put up a whole range of images you uploaded because you say they are not in the PD as you thought - can you add why you think so? (I think the reason is on your talkpage, but my language skills are a bit rusty) Also, your images are all sitting in "Incomplete deletion requests" and will not be processed until the requests are completed, please read Help:Mass deletion request for more info. Kind regards, Deadstar 09:28, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am going to add them to a mass deletion request, but it is taking time because my internet connection is slow or lost at times. I've uploade the images, but I have not made them myself. At the time of the uploads they were thought to come under the PD-art licence, but now the infopage about this licence says that this is not the case for images made in Norway, Sweden and Finland where this images where made. --Jorunn 09:35, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK - No big rush, thanks for your help. Deadstar 10:17, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jorunn, I notified Kjetil and Chris that this mass deletion request is being prepared, I believe this needs some qualified assesment - it's would be quite dramatic if all these images have to be removed. But I guess the use of this license will be clarified when the deletion request is in place.
If you have a bad connection right now you may not need to tag every image right now before posting the request. The result of the deletion discussion will set precedence for all images with this lisence, and if the result should be keep it's not really necessesary to have tagged all images.Finn Rindahl 10:43, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
According to Help:Mass deletion request I am to first mark all the images for deletion. These images are not mine, and according to Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag#Nordic_countries they are copy violations. --Jorunn 10:53, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was just told about this, and I'm not sure about the interpretation. It is true that photographic images are protected, faithful reproductions of earlier works can also be seen as production of copies of those works. Throughout the Act, production of copies is defined as being independent of the method used, so a photo of a painting would be a derivative work and thus covered by the original copyright. PD-art covers only faithful reproductions, and such reproductions are always covered by the original copyright. Furthermore, what is protected by §43a is not the photo as a physical object, but the subject of the photo – it can't even be copied as a drawing. This means that as soon as someone takes a photo of a work of art, that work is protected for 50 years (and 15 years pma in Norway). This would be an absurd situation; it would mean that if I made a drawing based on an old painting, a photographer could sue me since he owns the rights to the subject. License

[edit]

Hi, I would like to ask you if you can release this image also under CC-by-sa 3.0 license or similar: File:Knoppar på Raud Torstein, bløming seint i mai 2005 i Oslo..jpg. I would like to use it in PEXESO, but with GFDL only it is not possible. Thx.--Juan de Vojníkov (talk) 20:38, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I added CC-SA, is that ok? No attribution is required by me. --Jorunn (talk) 16:13, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I added CC-by-sa 3.0 too, but I requier no attribution. --Jorunn (talk) 16:28, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much. Well if you dont want attribution, probably cc-by-sa 3.0 should be removed, as by means attribution. I will have a look on the licenses to tell you the truth later. Now I have so much work. Sorry.--Juan de Vojníkov (talk) 21:29, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I later found the posting on Administrators Noticboard, if you agree and someone gives me the info that it is indeed legaly correct we should undelete them. --Martin H. (talk) 13:32, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm very done with this. I don't know why you would need my consent. If it is correct then it is correct, and if it isn't it isn't, and you should act accordingly. But I think you will find that many of the images has no source information, and I can't give it now, because I do not remember from which publications the images were taken.
A file I remember thoug is (I can give you the image nage because the files were copied to en.wikipedia, and I found it again there). That was taken from the website of a Norwegian auction house. The painting was photographed with a three dementional frame on it (if a coin is three dementional then a frame is too, I guess?). I did a bad crop of the photo, so most of the frame isn't visible in the uploaded image, but the source image was of a 3D object the way I see it now. --Jorunn (talk) 14:46, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Youre right. My intention was to recreate the images after the policy changed, also the images are now on Wikipedia and they will come back sooner or later, so it might be the better idea to recreate them instead of transfering them with all the mess of transwiki trivia, bad categories, wrong licenses, some user only copy&pasting the 800px thumbnails, etc. I withdraw my request because noone responded and im neither able to validate the PD-Art policy on this nor to provide sources for the images without sources. I asked you, because it was a request on your own uploads. Maybe sometime in future you will ask for undeletion of all or some particular files. --Martin H. (talk) 21:04, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Jorunn!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Thanks for uploading File:Nynorsksalmebok.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

File:Roskilde kathedraal 3.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
