Image Tagging Image:Soviet censorship with Stalin.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Soviet censorship with Stalin.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Wrong information in the map
[edit]The image http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Balkans_Animation_1800-2006.gif ist wrong. The principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia did always exist, though they were not independent, but vassal (like Montenegro). Both states have never been an ottoman villayet. --Olahus 17:16, 20 February 2008 (UTC) The image http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Balkans_Animation_1800-2006.gif is wrong. Your continental animations
[edit]Well done, well done. I had tried to do North America, but I think my error was trying to go too far back; clearly, yeah, sticking to "non-native control" was key. I'm not sure if I agree with including the states, provinces, etc., but on the whole you did a great job. :) Nice job on South America too, I also tried that and ran into trouble of figuring out where the borders were in the middle of the continent. --Golbez 20:11, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
The most wonderful thing I have seen in Wikipedia
[edit]Your maps are the most wonderful thing I have seen in Wikipedia. But I believe there is a small error in the Brasilian southern border. Indeed the Missiones Orientales were far south. I will find some maps to discuss with you. Another suggestion: the southern border of Argentina and Chile was indian territory in the 19th century. There was no clear definition of where started the indian territories and where finished Argentina. Why not to blurr the line to give the ideia that a defined border did not exist? Thanks for your great work.

Please don't forget to categorize your images. I am now categorizing your Poland-related maps, please ensure that all of your other images are properly categorized. Uncategorized images (maps in particular) lose much of their usefulness, as they are much more difficult to find by interested editors and users. Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 05:48, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

File tagging File:David_McMillan_1999_Athens_square.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:David_McMillan_1999_Athens_square.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:David_McMillan_1999_Athens_square.jpg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Hello , I've been checking your image since time ago, but I didn't notice that you forgot three things I know;
- 1823-1825: United Provinces of Central America (No colonies)
- 1825-1839: Federal Republic of Central America
- 1825 - British Honduras (U.K)
- 1825 - the line marked on the border of Nicaragua as part of U.K, it's wrong, it was part of the great Colombia not U.K
Thanks. --TownDown How's it going? 22:01, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
Report a problem
[edit]Hello. Your timeline map of ottomon empire has a big problem. Between 1683 and 1829, casacus regions are shown as part of ottomon empire, while in reality it was part of Persian empire that later due to Treaty of Gulistan and Treaty of Turkmencha were submitted to Russian empire. I'll be appreciably grateful if you correct it. Aliwiki (talk) 23:35, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
Swedish Pomerania missing
[edit]You did a great job with your maps. However, they display Swedish Pomerania as part of Brandenburg-Prussia. The problem occurs in the maps covering the mid- and late 1600s and the early 1700s, until 1721.
The border between Swedish Pomerania and Brandenburg ran some kilometers east of the Oder until 1679, from a point east of Cammin/Kammin/Kamien to a point south of Greifenhagen/Gryfino (?), with the latter being on the Swedish side and Stargard on the Brandenburgian side, from there it turned west. See en:Treaty of Stettin (1653).
From 1679 to 1720, the border was determined by the Oder and Dievenow/Dzwina (?), with Wollin/Wolin remaining with Sweden. See en:Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye (1679).
Since 1720, the border was determined by the Peene and Peenestrom rivers, so the part remaining with Sweden until 1815 is not depicted on your maps anymore. See en:Treaty of Stockholm (Great Northern War).
I guess you have some sort of a "master map" and would be grateful if you correct the erroneous maps. I tried for 1660. Best Skäpperöd (talk) 12:59, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Mistake on Ottoman Empire Map year 1923
[edit]Very nice maps... but as in the title mentioned there is a mistake on the last Image/gif of Ottoman Empire (1923).
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Territorial_changes_of_the_Ottoman_Empire_1923.jpg
Because here the province " Hatay " wasn't a part of Turkey in 1923. Hatay has been included to Turkey since 1938 but not before. It was something like a gouverment of France but due to an aggreement between Turkey and France it became again a turkish province.
So here is a link which shows where the province Hatay is and the text as a prove for it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatay_Province
Pls correct this. It has not to be counted as a turkish province in 1923 but the map can be extended further to 1938 where Hatay is and has to be counted as a province of Turkey. Thanks

South America map: Chiloé
[edit]Hi Esemono,
great work, really! I found just one thing missing, this is the island of Chiloé. This island had been under spanish rule since the conquest of 1567 and stayed spanish after 1598. During 17th and 18th century it was a very important Spanish exclave deep in South - and was spanish even in the first few years after chilean independence. Only in 1826 it came under chilean rule. I understand that your map cannot depict each and every small territory's change; but Chiloé seems to me very important as worth to be shown.
Another outpost was the enclave of Valdivia; however it's territory is probably too small for being shown in this map. Regards Wassermaus (talk) 09:29, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

land area of the US and New Spain / Mexico since ~1760
[edit]Hello:
Do you have data on land area of New Spain / Mexico since ~1760?
www.u-s-history.com/pages/h986.html provides numbers for the US population and land area for each decennial census 1790-2000.
I'm working developing an essay on Wikiversity on v:Nuclear weapons and effective defense, and I'd like to include a plot showing how the US has grown while Mexico has shrunk. The data above gives me something to plot for the US, but I could use numbers for Mexico.
If you do not have such a table handy, can you give me shapefiles used to create the maps? I'm relatively facile with R (programming language), and can probably compute it if I have the shapefiles used to create your marvelous series of plots.

Question on "Territorial evolution of North America since 1763"
[edit]I absolutely love your map that you've created for the territorial evolution of North America. It fits perfectly in my teaching curriculum, and it will be a great visual for my students. However, it goes too fast to study the maps that I want to analyze with my students. I was wondering if there is any way to allow the user to decide when to transition to the next map. I'm not sure how you created this map, but it would be great if I could study specific years and do a comparison. It would be great to allow the user to move forward and backwards. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.44.224.249 (talk) 16:51, 1 September 2019 (UTC)

Excellent Balkanization map!
[edit]I just stumbled upon your map illustrating the changing political geography in SE Europe. It rocks! Well done! Especially the work put into the description. The timeline is fantastic and wonderfully succinct. Good show!Gamle Kvitrafn (talk) 20:34, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
