Hi ErfgoedBot. There is a big problem with your Bot. It add the generic category at all files of the subcategories. This is really boring because it's a big lost of time to open each file to recognize which is overcategorized and which not, and then to free up the mother category from the hundreds of files already properly subcategorized. Please avoid your bot to work in this way, because there is already too much work to be done anywhere, that I want to have to make even more. Thank you very much. Hi DenghiùComm, thank you for posting.

You may see my answers above to Sailko and Superchilum for detailed explanations. Long story cut short, one of the bot job is to ventilate Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Italy, which as you can see has a very serious over-population and over-categorisation problems.

I have investigated making the bot smarter, but it is a tough nut to crack. I do appreciate your concerns and will try to address them eventually.

Bot is not working on nlwiki

Hi Jean-Frédéric,

Lately I've noticed that ErfgoedBot hasn't been working for about a week now. On nlwiki there are three pages that should be updated about daily. These are: unused photos of Rijksmonuments, unused photos of gemeentelijke monumenten and unused photos of provincial monuments. The last one hasn't been updated since April, even thoug I'm pretty sure I've uploaded one or two photo's without placing them after April. Do you know what has happend? Bot for Italian monuments

Hi Erfgoed. I noticed that this bot adds categories on WLM files. Thanks, but there is a problem. For example, I removed the Category:San Michele Arcangelo (Busto Arsizio) and added Category:San Michele Arcangelo (Busto Arsizio) - Church tower for this file: File:Campanile di san michele.jpg. This because in the picture there is just an element of the monument (the church tower), and it has its own category on Commons. The same thing happens for many other monuments in Busto Arsizio (I'm working for articles and images for this Italian city). Is it possible to tell your bot "don't add a monument category if there is already a subcategory about it"? Thanks. --Yiyi (Dimmi!) 10:38, 28 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi Yiyi, good to hear someone is working on sorting out these files! The categorization bot only works on the root category of the tree. For Italy that's Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Italy. The bot replaces the root category with a more specific category (example). You should remove the root category. This root category should generally be empty or only contain newly uploaded files. For Italy I see over 4500 files in there, do you think you can work on sorting that out a bit? Putting things in categories for landmarks

You probably didn't know, but consensus was reached recently to eliminate the various generic landmark categories, such as Category:Landmarks, Category:Landmarks by country, etc. The discussion is at Commons:Categories for discussion/2011/08/Category:Landmarks by country. This bot recently added some files to Category:Landmarks. The changes I saw are [1], [2], [3], and [4]. The categorisation model of the bot is outlined in Commons:Monuments_database/Categorization.

The problem would come from the Wikipedia in Arabic. I have added a CommonsCat template to alleviate that, but that may not work. I will keep an eye on it. I filed it as phab:T144800

STOP this BOT!! And Revert your wrong edits!!

Hi, I am uploading thosusands of pictures of wikiloves monuments and all the years I put in the proper category and then there is a f* stupid bot that adds the main category again. For instance it took me a whole afternoon to divide properly the images into subcategories of Category:Gallerie_dell'Accademia_(Venice) and now you added the fucking main category again!! Is it so hard to understand that an image could already be in a sub-category of the main one? Why don't you skip when the images are already there??? Also in Italian version fo WLM we have authomatic categorizization during the upload, what is the need of you bot? Mess everything again? Please revert all the edits on my images or I will do all I can do in order to report you as a problematic user, and make them remove the flag for the bot --Sailko (talk) 09:02, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

As bystander I think the Bot moves images from Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Italy to a better category. You allready added an even better category. How to prevent this: You should upload to your sub-category, BUT don't add the Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Italy! Maybe this seems odd to you, but Category:Ancient Roman jewellery in the Museo archeologico (Aquileia) is a sub-sub-sub category of Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Italy. Right, this is phab:T145627. We have investigated this before but have not found the cause − it might with the pywikibot framework itself.
