First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper
Made a mistake?
  • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: {{bad name|Correct name}}
  • For more information read the full Deletion guidelines

Hello CeeGee, are you sure GizemGönültaş05.JPG depicts Gizem Gönültaş? Looks like Nr. 6, Songül Paksoy to me [1]. --Headlocker (talk) 19:01, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yes, you're right. İt's a my mistake. Pls change the file name to "SongülPaksoy06.JPG" if you can. Otherwise, let me know so that I can request the renaming. In the meantime, I'm gonna change the file description and cat. Herzlichen Dank. --CeeGee (talk) 20:47, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Emine Ülker Tarhan 1 (cropped).jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Selamlar, Fenerli1978 (talk) 11:16, 8 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I see. Is it then OK when we move all the existing images into a new category:Labour Day Turkey 2015, which would be a subcat of categğry:1 May International Workers' Day in Turkey? I suggest this for future use of images. Cheers. --CeeGee (talk) 14:02, 8 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello CeeGee. Since these two files have been deleted I cannot check my deletion rationale, but I seem to remember that these tickets included original artwork, photos or copyrighted logos. So photographing them and publishing the pictures would have required permission from the original designer. It's called a derivative work and unless the subject of your photographs is trivial or clearly not copyrighted I'm afraid you can't upload such photos. De728631 (talk) 18:44, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Selam. Şu anda Men of Turkey kategorisi ile uğraşıyorum. Ne kadar Arap varsa orada. Bu birşey değil, Category:Men of Turkey by occupation bomboş! Bakın ben Category:Women of Turkey by name diye birşey açtım, doldurulması gerek. "Men of Turkey by name" ise kıpkırmızı!!! Dediğim gibi, bunlar "ana" kategoriler. Please help! While you're around

[edit]

Selam. As I see you're around, may I ask you why you made the Category:Faculty by university or college in Turkey that has only one Category:Faculty of Middle East Technical University which has only one File:Uğur Ersoy.jpg in it? Is Mr Uğur Ersoy your father or something? Why did you make two categories for only one person? Please either categorize other Turkish academicians in the same way or let's delete those two cats. Waiting for your answer. Cheers. --E4024 (talk) 13:36, 28 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please be respectful! The answer is in your question. CeeGee (talk) 13:41, 28 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yellow buses / blond women

[edit]

Selam. I saw you making cats for buses in Turkey based on colour. Perhaps you forgot to complete the "yellow buses" cat. I could have completed it but I saw the "colours" thingy in the main cat with the colour samples and I couldn't find the "yellow" there. Therefore I was hesitant to step into something I did not know how to do. OTOH, I saw the ambulance pic you uploaded today and wanted to share something with you: The other day I saw an ambulance in Ankara with three beautiful blond "görevli"s in the front cabin and wanted to take a pic but it was already dark (at around 5 pm! :) and I thought it would not be nice to explode a flash on the faces of the three ladies, the doctor, the paramedic or nurse and the driver. I regret having missed that pic. You know why, even in many "European" (within commas) countries these first aid/ambulance teams -generally- include a male worker, even if only for security reasons. In Ankara, deep Turkey, even though it is the capital of the county, we did not have that concern... Now, in order not to make you think I'm speaking absurdities, the chain of "çağrışımlar": Yellow (sarı) - Blond (sarışın), Bus - Ambulance (minibus). Well, no idea how many of the three ladies were real blonds and how many tainted the hair, impossible to understand at that lack of light and distance. :) Commons has no reason to be a too serious place and a joke from time to time comes well. I guess. Sorry for the other day, even though I did not want -ever- to act disrespectfully. Hoşçakalın. --E4024 (talk) 13:10, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Women's association football players by club in Turkey

[edit]

Hi. This edit of yours is wrong, IMHO. Please look at Category:Serenay Aktaş. I added her to Category:Players of Beşiktaş J.K. (women's football) but did not remove Category:Women's association football players from Turkey; because playing in BJK does not imply that she is Turkish. Look at Category:Jacquette Ada. Jacquette Ada is from Cameroon but plays for BJK like Serenay Aktaş. If Category:Women's association football players by club in Turkey were a subcat of Category:Women's association football players from Turkey, Jacquette Ada would be Turkish. You know this area better than anybody because you make the most edits. (I first taught you were a player yourself, but later when I saw the moustached foto I said "he must be a coach". Whatever. :) I have seen you adding files of at least a couple of foreign female players in Turkish teams. (We also have at least two players who play/ed in German teams.) Please -it must be tedious, I imagine- try to categorize players individually as Turkish footballers. Sorry to ask you this big favour. Selamlar. --E4024 (talk) 16:00, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Vessels of the Coastal Safety of Turkey

[edit]

Hi. You have opened, in 2016, Category:Vessels of the Coastal Safety of Turkey while we had a Category:Coastal defence ships of Turkey since 2011. Most probably one of these cats must merge into the other one. Therefore please do as needed. Thanks and cheers. --E4024 (talk) 08:44, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! "Coastal Safety" vessels are different from "Coast Guard" vessels or coastal defense vessels. I see no relation between them at all. CeeGee (talk) 10:41, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
They are both vessels, and naval vessels; that's a good relation. :) --E4024 (talk) 11:49, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I think at first I did not understand correctly, but now I believe I was not well-understood later: Kıyı emniyeti is a department of the Turkish Ministry of Transportation (etc). Their ships are not "naval vessels". They belong to the Turkish public administration, but not to the Turkish Navy, or better said "Turkish Naval Forces". Therefore they are not correctly categorized. Regards. --E4024 (talk) 13:49, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Turkish association football

[edit]

Hello GeeGee, I noticed that you uploaded a lot of stuff about association football in Turkey. That's good, but please keep in mind some suggestions:

  • you'd better use the synthiax : Matches of [club] instead of [club] matches. This is the correct synthiax used in the categories (we are slowly adjusting it). See i.e. Matches of Beşiktaş J.K. (women's association football)
  • the child categories should mirror the topic of the mother category. I.e. if the mother cat is Beşiktaş J.K. you'd better name consistently Players of Beşiktaş J.K. and not Players of Beşiktaş JK
  • generally the schema for disambiguation is:
    • no need for disambiguation if the club plays one sport only and has only one gender
    • the disambiguation (women) is enough if the club plays one sport and have both men's and women's team
    • the disambiguation (women's association football) (and NOT women's football) is required if the club is a multisport

In any case remember that the correct naming of football is association football though Europeans tend to omit association. Regards, -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 15:37, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Jenny Gusyk Personalblatt UzK zoom ger.png.

Thank you.

  • @Ahmad252: I uploaded this file from a website of the University of Cologne. The file shows a historic document from 1919. I guess it must be in public use. As I am not familiar with the copyright options, I might have omitted the tag needed. Could you check it and add the appropiate copyright information by yourself please. Thank you. CeeGee (talk) 10:46, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. Can you please provide the link of the website? Thanks. Ahmadtalk 10:57, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Ahmad252: No, this the original matriculation document written by the University of Cologne, when Jenny Gusyk enrolled there in 1919. In 1944, when she died in the concentration camp, nobody would come to the idea in Nazi Germany to issue such a document. CeeGee (talk) 18:08, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category discussion warning

Category:City_buses has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Thanks for opening Category:Atatürk's Residence and Railway Museum. I saw the uncategorized file:Ankara railroad museum.jpg and without noticing this cat categorized it under a new Category:Ankara Railroad Museum. If this file belongs to the cat you opened, please correct my mistake, and let us turn the unnecessary cat into an RD. User:Gargarapalvin is from Ankara, they also may say something on this. Arıcılık

[edit]

Bu güzel haritayı yapmışsınız, sağolun. Ben de onu Category:Beekeeping in Turkey'ye yerleştirdim. Cheers. --E4024 (talk) 14:09, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

About Power Plants

[edit]

Dear @CeeGee,

It seems there is conflicting information on your uploads. The power plant you refer as "UnimarMarmaraEreğlisiPowerPlant" here, is actually the Tekirdağ Doğal Gaz Kombine Çevrim B Santrali (Tekirdağ Combined Cycle Power Plant B), as you can see the photos right here, from the EÜAŞ. The power plant you refer as Unimar is currently named as A santrali, and you may find the photos right here.

Long story short, you have to change the names and descriptions of these files. I kindly request this urgently. Your photos are awesome, but I can't use them right now because of this issue.

Please add photos from some Togg car concepts on Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi @User:CeeGee. Please can you add some photos from some Togg car concepts on Wikipedia on this link: https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:TOGG

I am asking you since you have edited Togg article on Wikipedia. These are the images I want to add and the sources:

https://cdnb.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/037/880/049/small/bahadir-ayti-cinematicrender6.jpg?1621545145 - Togg concept hatchback | Source: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/L3QrDl

I would be very happy if you will add these photos on Wikipedia since Turkish car manufacturer Togg doesn't have any photos of its concepts to inform Wikipedia users. I uploaded them but they were deleted by another Wikipedia user. I think you have more potential than me since I am new Wikipedia user and you are older Wikipedia user.

Category:Modern Glass Art Museum

[edit]

Hello CeeGee,

I hope you can help me in this matter. You not only created the Category:Modern Glass Art Museum, but published pictures there. I have many pictures also, but did not publish them because I expected them to be deleted for copyright reasons. The makers obviously have not been dead for 70 years, that sort of a thing. But I am beginning to think, as there are so many pictures here, that glass art is considered different from, for instance, painting, more like a craft and that publishing such works is allowed. What is your opinion or experience on this matter? Dosseman (talk) 12:58, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Dosseman: Thank you for asking my opinion. I understand your concern, however, I really have no idea about the fate of such art images in relation with the copyright issues. I am sure that experts in this topic are eager to judge. Have a nice day. CeeGee (talk) 19:33, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your answer. I took the risk of having eager judges on my trail, and published my contributions. Have a nice 2024. Dosseman (talk) 10:55, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome, Dear Patroller!

Counter Vandalism Unit

Hi CeeGee,

You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.

As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.

We could use your help at the Counter Vandalism Unit. For example by patrolling an Anonymous-edits checklist and checking a day-part.

If you have any questions please leave a message on the CVU talkpage or ask for help on IRC in #wikimedia-commons. Kadı Message 18:47, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
