Blasons

[edit]
Bonjour. Bonne continuation. Expeditions in Antarctica map

[edit]

Hi! I translated and modified your nice map to create File:Expeditions in Antarctica before 1897.svg. In a discussion Apcbg focused my attention on the 1840-41 expedition of James Ross. In your map he sailed through the Ross Ice Shelf which is certainly impossible. In any case his route should not extend beyond about 78° S. If I understand correctly you used a book (Le grand défi des pôles) to draw the expedition routes. Is there a map in this book showing the routes or you drew them based on descriptions/coordinates? There is also [1] which shows somewhat different routes. Best regards. bamse (talk) 16:48, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Bourrichon!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Reproduction de carte d'histoire

[edit]

Bonjour,

Romain0 (talk) 22:58, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Chumwa (talk) 11:02, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

While translating your map of Liechtenstein some Swiss users identified some mistakes: it's Schaanwald, not Schaanwal; Saxerriet isn't a village, it's just a prison; Wartau is the name of a municipality, the name of the village you named Wartau is Trübbach; there is a tunnel between Triesenberg and Malbun; Castle of Vaduz lies more to the North; boundaries and railway looks different in map and legend. Topographic maps

[edit]

Hello! I used your map of the caucasus to create maps like this one. Now I am asked to make such maps about Siam, but I cannot find a topographic map I could use. Can you make a topographic map of south-east Asia, that I can use then? From Kunming in the north to Sumatra would be enought, maybe Borneo an Java too. La légende des couleurs...

[edit]

Salut Bourrichon,

I like the map a lot, especially the topographic background which I'd like to find out where you got it, for other local-mapping uses, but it has various problems. Primarily the location of "Columbia district" [sic] WAY too far north, and the absence of a label for Nouvelle-Caledonie, which should be in approximately the same place, or a bit north of that, actually (most of N-C was above 54-40). The usage "Columbia District" (there was an official French name "District de Columbia" btw) more properly should be on top of the Columbia basin, where most of the forts and trading activity; but because you've shown the main disputed areas on this map, there's no room to put it there; Oregon Country and Columbia District are alternative names for essentially the same region, and in HBC terms the dominant meaning was SOUTH of New Caledonia and the Thompson Country (Fort Thompson, for example, was part of the Columbia Department administration, but the Columbia District as a territory did not include the Thompson basin (see the M.S. Wade citation on the Thompson Country article in English Wikipedia); it was only in the "last days", so to speak, that New Caledonia was submerged into the Columbia District/Department administration; and from 1846 to 1858 the usage "New Caledonia" became extended to mean everything north of the 49th Parallel, i.e. on teh mainland, though originally it was the Nechako basin and other areas north of Fort Alexandria (and there were many more forts, though most north of 54-40). I also don't think it's necessary for a map on the Columbia District page to show the disputed area; that's an Oregon boundary dispute issue; I know, the English-language page has the same or similar map, but the disputed area as shown was really only "defined" in the 1840s and is inapplicable to a description of the fur district. For now, the main problem is where the Columbia District label is; better would be to have it at the same place as Oregon Country, maybe in the form Columbia District/Oregon Country w9th a line break, or Columbia District (Oregon Country), with a vice-versa on the Oregon Country page; the difference is the boundaries; the British usage did not include, originally, areas from Fort Thompson northwards, the US version was always all the way to 54-40. Also "Nouvelle Espagne" below the 42nd parallel should more properly be "Mexique", as the Columbia District wasn't really formed until 1821, and for most of 1821-1846 that region was Mexico, not New Spain.....Also is Terre de Rupert really the HBC's own French usage for Rupert's Land?Skookum1 (talk) 14:29, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Like tears in rain {-_-} 18:50, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Carte des Alpilles

[edit]

Bonjour Bourrichon,

File:Map of traditionnal provinces of Libye-en.svg

[edit]

hi Bourrichon,

thank you for editing this image here File:Map of traditionnal provinces of Libye-en.svg. Can you change the colours again back? Fezzan should be in this light red/pink that Cyrenaica has at the moment, and Cyrenaica should be in a light grey, in order to reflect the traditional colours of the regions correctly. User:Hellerick just changed the image, the added international borders are fine, but the colours should be corrected. Merci. Gryffindor (talk) 12:34, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Carte Guerre punique

[edit]

Hello,

I noticed that the scale (km/miles) in image File:Madeira topographic map-fr.svg is clearly wrong. The length of the island is about 57 km, but the scale says that it is much longer. Would it be difficult to fix the scale symbol? --Ryhanen (talk) 07:53, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Bonjour Bourrichon ! Cordialement, --Wikipedro (talk) 14:53, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

VMAP is unfortunately completely outdated. OSM's boundaries seem to be a quite imprecise compared to File:Zachodniopomorskie mapa administracyjna.png but at least it is the complete voivodeship. Gabon

[edit]

Hello, in doing work in rivers in Gabon I noticed a mistake in the otherwise excellent File:Bassin versant de l'Ogooué-fr.svg. The drainage boundary is omitting the drainage of the Aïna or Ayina river which runs along the Cameroon/Gabon border and then into the Ivindo (easily seen on File:Gabon_Map.jpg - the basin should extend into Cameroon. Maps template-fr.svg

[edit]

Bonjour,

[edit]

Hi! Thanks for this great map (which I am currently translating to English). I noticed one mistake: "Hachinone" (city) should be "Hachinohe". bamse (talk) 10:05, 28 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

One more thing. As far as I know there is no mountain called "Mount Koya" (Koya-san) in Japan. There is a temple town by that name, and I believe also the mountains around it are called "Koyasan", but there should not be a single mountain by that name. bamse (talk) 12:53, 28 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And another mountain. "Monts Daisetsu 2090 m" should have an altitude of 2,290 m, the height of Asahidake, the highest mountain in that range. bamse (talk) 13:43, 28 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Awashimaura (in the island layer) is the name of a village and should be replaced with Awashima, which is the name of that island. bamse (talk) 19:41, 28 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Udonejima -> Udone-shima
  • Niishima -> Nii-jima
  • Shikine -> Shikine-jima
  • Ōnohara -> Ōnohara-jima
  • Inanba -> Inamba-jima (unless it is spelled with "n" in French)
  • Kojima (the one next to Hachijōjima) -> Hachijō-Kojima
  • Îles Unji -> Îles Uji
  • Kubajima -> Kubashima
  • Miyagusuku -> Miyagi
  • Torishima (the one next to Amami Islands) -> Iwo Tori-shima
  • Amami -> Amami Ōshima
  • Kannone -> Kaminone-jima
  • Cap Shiriazaki -> Cap Shiriyazaki
  • Kure (Hiroshima Prefecture) and Sasebo (Nagasaki Prefecture are now, since 2016, core cities)

Rivages de la mer du Nord

[edit]

Super, merci.

Important message for file movers

[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A propos de l'image "Neuchâtel.svg"

[edit]

Bonjour,

Ellicrum {bablute [...]} 18:50, 16 May 2023 (UTC)

ymin="42.96" xmin="6.06" ymax="43.13" xmax="6.55"
ymin="6213403" xmin="949187" ymax="6230507" xmax="989038"
Bien à toi
Bourrichon (talk) 20:33, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
--Ellicrum {bablute [...]} 18:54, 17 May 2023 (UTC)
Tant mieux ! Bourrichon (talk) 20:11, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
--Ellicrum {bablute [...]} 14:39, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
