You nominated a free image for deletion, maybe by mistake
You must have checked https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Screenshots before nominating a screenshot file for deletion.
If software is under a free license, even a non licensed screenshot is a free image. The uploaders maynot always be checking their talk page, and now commons has lost a free image.
Kindly such details before nominating further files for deletion. Deadrat (talk) 09:23, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Deadrat: Thanks for catching this, I and the deleting admin must have both missed the fact that the software was under a free licence. Which file was this? Belbury (talk) 09:58, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
Delete the request
Hello, @Belbury. After some thoughts, I've uploaded the original versions of the photos finally. Now you can delete the request Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:News presenters from Vietnam that you've made before.
Thank you so much. Mickey Đại Phát (talk) 12:08, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, I've withdrawn the nomination. Belbury (talk) 12:23, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
Bro?
I made them and the article would not make sense without them especially the laws in wales acts one. What should I do? Editor account 2222 (talk) 19:13, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Editor account 2222: All I've flagged up is File:Area transferred at some point.png which was a Google Earth screenshot (which is copyrighted to Google so we can't use it here), and another file that you said was "useless now".
- What's the "laws in wales acts one"? Belbury (talk) 19:26, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- oh ok cool. laws in wales acts is the one that's flagged should I give up on it? Editor account 2222 (talk) 19:28, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- wait sorry Editor account 2222 (talk) 19:31, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- I don't know which file you're talking about. Belbury (talk) 19:31, 12 June 2024 (UTC)

File:Rachel Reeves July 5 2024.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Hugo files
Why did you delete the files? As of Danish Copyright Law: "Der er ingen krav om, at man skal registrere sin ophavsret, og der eksisterer derfor ikke et offentligt register over indehavere af ophavsrettigheder." I don't see why they were to be deleted as some of the images were official releases of Hugo games and posters. I even credited the right sources, and the company (ITE) that owned Hugo no longer exists. Tobee1406 (talk) 15:57, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Tobee1406 Hi, I flagged the video game and album cover art as derivatives of copyrighted work, and marked File:Skærmtrolden Hugo.jpg as lacking evidence of permission. The deletions were performed by administrators, and it looks like other Commons users flagged your other uploads.
- I'm not sure what your Danish text is saying, but it would be news to me if all video game and album artwork (and music and books and television and everything?) would be considered public domain in Denmark because copyright is never registered there.
- You can request that the images be restored at Commons:Undeletion requests, or - probably more usefully - ask about Danish copyright at Commons:Village pump/Copyright. Belbury (talk) 16:04, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- I understand. But how is the English version of Hugo allowed to have the video game covers on that page? Tobee1406 (talk) 18:01, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Tobee1406 If you're referring to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hugo_characters.png, that image is hosted on the English Wikipedia (not on Commons) and has a detailed copyright template saying how the image is recognised as copyrighted by Wikipedia but they argue that their usage of it "qualifies as fair use".
- I'm afraid the Danish-language Wikipedia decided not to adopt a fair use policy - so where the English Wikipedia has a picture for en:Homer Simpson, there is no such image at da:Homer Simpson. Belbury (talk) 18:06, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- I was actually referring to this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hugo_2_Cover.jpg. So if I just fill it out as they have, it should be allowed to use? Tobee1406 (talk) 18:13, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Tobee1406 If you want to add it to a page on the English Wikipedia, yes. Just go to the en:Wikipedia:File upload wizard and click the Upload a non-free file button to upload a file, answering all the questions truthfully: that it's a copyrighted video game cover but you believe it is fair use for the English Wikipedia.
- If you want to add it to a page on the Danish Wikipedia, I'm afraid this isn't possible. Belbury (talk) 18:18, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- Alright, thank you for the guidance and wisdom. Tobee1406 (talk) 18:22, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- No problem, sorry I couldn't give you a useful route onwards! Belbury (talk) 18:29, 23 July 2024 (UTC)

Dear Balbury, You've recently deleted two images that we own and don't have any copyright issue. We need them for our films' Wikipedia articles. Please add them back. Best regards, Ben Mayor and Farag Studios. 1benmayorfarag (talk) 12:22, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
