With your change to Template:PeopleCenturybyCountry, could you please also add to the examples in the "noinclude"? Thanks. - Jmabel ! talk 16:34, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Jmabel: Yes, I will. I also plan to make one or two other changes, and I will include examples of those as well. -- Auntof6 (talk) 16:38, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
Admin?
[edit]Have you ever considered becoming an admin? You certainly seem to have the right attitude, and at least the bulk of the skills. - Jmabel ! talk 19:23, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Jmabel: Is there much need for new admins? -- Auntof6 (talk) 22:49, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- I'd say so. There are backlogs all over the place for things that only admins can do. E.g. we are always months behind in closing DRs and CfDs.
- I would guess that pretty much every admin is maxed on the amount of admin work they are willing to do, or close to it, so really the only way we get more time on admin tasks is either (1) add new admins or (2) someone ends up doing more than they are happy doing (3) as a few have proposed, but it seems to be going nowhere, take certain tasks that have been exclusive to admins and create new categories of users that can do those particular tasks.
- You've seemed to me to be capable, consistently well-intentioned, even-tempered, even-handed, and respectful of existing consensus even when it might not be exactly what you personally would choose to do. Those are pretty much the characteristics we need in an admin. - Jmabel ! talk 23:48, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Jmabel: Well, there are some admin tasks I'd feel confident about, but quite a few that I wouldn't. If it would be acceptable for me to do the ones I understand, and learn others when I have the time and energy to do so, I'd be willing to be nominated.
- I should say, though, that I know of some users who might vehemently oppose my candidacy based on past interactions. I guess we'll see. -- Auntof6 (talk) 04:46, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- You would certainly have my support vote (and my co-nomination if you desired). Pi.1415926535 (talk) 06:03, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Pi.1415926535: Sure. If I'm nominated, I'd be glad to have your co-nom. Thanks! -- Auntof6 (talk) 11:14, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- Nomination started at Commons:Administrators/Requests/Auntof6. Next step is for you to accept the nomination. - Jmabel ! talk 19:36, 28 November 2024 (UTC)

Congratulations, Dear Administrator!
[edit]
Auntof6, congratulations! You now have administrator rights on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and its subpages), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care. Have a look at the list of Gadgets (on the bottom there are the ones specifically for admins – however, for example the UserMessages are very helpful too).
Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons webchat on irc.libera.chat. There is also a channel for Commons admins, which may be useful for more sensitive topics, or coordination among administrators: #wikimedia-commons-admin webchat.
You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading. You can find the admin backlog overview at COM:AB.
Please also check or add your entry to the List of administrators and the related lists by language and date it references.

- You'll probably want to add "admin" to your Babel box (and probably remove the things that are redundant to that). - Jmabel ! talk 23:22, 5 December 2024 (UTC)

Hello new Admin!
[edit]I just marked a child abuse file, please delete it. Thanks. 186.173.109.1 21:42, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Please undelete File talk:Correio Braziliense ou Armazem Literario. Vol. I.pdf
[edit]I've just renamed File:Correio Braziliense ou Armazem Literario Vol. I.pdf to File:Correio Braziliense ou Armazem Literario. Vol. I.pdf. But the talk page had been renamed already and you just deleted it as an orphan. I tried to explain the situation in the speedy deletion request for the stray file page, but apparently I wasn't clear enough. Please could you undelete the talk page at File talk:Correio Braziliense ou Armazem Literario. Vol. I.pdf? Sorry for the confusion! --bjh21 (talk) 23:00, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Bjh21: Done Sorry about that. -- Auntof6 (talk) 00:04, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
Can you please revert this undiscussed rename, for the second time now. Thanks. Andy Dingley (talk) 21:30, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
Removing speedy from Category:Enschede in 1900
[edit]Hello Auntof6, removing my speed deletion request from mentioned category seems quite ridiculous to me. All the other categories in Category:Enschede by year don't have this redirect. In comparison to other place and municipality by year categories of the Netherlands, it won't be probable that someone categorizes a file like that. What was your intention? Kind regards, Fantaglobe11 (talk) 13:21, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
- The convention for this kind of category name might be "<year> in <place>", but "<place> in <year>" also makes sense. Someone created it with this name, which means that people don't always know the convention. Leaving a redirect lets them find the category they're looking for even when they don't know the actual name. Therefore, I left the redirect.
- To me, it doesn't matter that the other categories don't have such a redirect. I'm not suggesting that other redirects need to be created, just that they be left where they already exist. -- Auntof6 (talk) 22:24, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
Question
[edit]Hi. Can you do me a favor and close Commons:Categories for discussion/2024/06/Category:History per Jmabel's and Infrogmation of New Orleans' last couple of comments? It doesn't seem like anyone is closing CfDs lately. Thanks. Adamant1 (talk) 22:29, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Adamant1: Yes, I will look at it later when I can do so without getting interrupted by IRL things here.
- I actually have closing CFDs on my list to pay attention to, so I hope to get to more of them. -- Auntof6 (talk) 01:33, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
