reply, Image:Fort Wayne.jpg
[edit]I'm sorry to randomly bug you, but could you consider Image:Fort Wayne.jpg for a rename? (I picked you out of the trusted user list semi-randomly) I requested this two months ago, and it's not clear to me whether my request was made incorrectly or what. Andrew Jameson (talk) 19:05, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hehe you're not bugging me, quite the opposite, thanks for your request :-). I also bellive your code reqeuest was correct, but that it probably wasn't picked up yet (so thanks for noticing). I confirmed it now. Please contact me at any time if you need help with anything. Best regards. Yosh3000 (talk) 21:51, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 05:37, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Categories
[edit]Thank you for your nice photos of the Detroit area. However I would ask you to add more categories to the descriptions to make them easier to find and so more useful. I added some simple ones like Barns in Michigan and Churches in Michigan to some of your uploads recently. Anything that describes the content of the images in words aids in linking and searching. I recently put together the page for lake freighters and had to search dozens of categories to find them all. Some people categorized them only as boats, only as rivers, only as cities, etc. Please add many categories to each image. Rmhermen (talk) 16:32, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Re: File:LincolnPlant1923.jpg
[edit]Hi Andrew, I simply downloaded the PDF from the Google site, and used an image extraction program to pull the image. Took me about a dozen tries, because the program is so temperamental, but it came out alright. I then did some post-processing: straightened, darkened, and added contrast (the original was very light). I almost think the image is a bit too large, and at an over-inflated pixel count. What is your opinion? I can always shrink it by a bit for a more natural feel. — Huntster (t @ c) 17:50, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Help needed
[edit]Hello! Your File:OscarBMarxButton.jpg doesn't have a source. I bet you still remember (after 4 years) where you found this image? Could you please have a look? Thanks for your time! --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 16:59, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
File:Marshall MI Abner Pratt House.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

The nomination forms aren't necessarily PD, some, possibly most, are written by consultants or property owners, or state preservations offices. Likewise, the photos aren't necessarily taken by the NPS employee either. Looking at this particular nomination, there is no indication that a federal employee was involved, and therefore it isn't automatically PD. Adventure Publications Photo Permission
[edit]Hello, my name is Andrea Bong, and I work for Adventure Publications. We're producing a book about Michigan tourist sites and we came across your photo: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edsel_and_Eleanor_Ford_House#/media/File:EdselFordHouseSide.jpg
I noticed that the image we're interested in is licensed according to a Creative Commons 2.0 Attribution Sharealike license. I'm writing because we'd like to use this image in our book and we're planning on cropping the image. As we understand it, this might come into conflict with the Sharealike provision of the license, so we wanted to contact you ask for your formal permission to use your image in our book. If we do so, we'll of course credit the image pursuant to the license.
If you agree, can you let me know how you'd like your credit to read?
You can reach me at andrea@adventurepublications.net
Thanks for the fine work, and take care,

Detroit map
[edit]Hi Andrew Jameson,
Thank you for creating the map of Detroit (Detroitareamap.gif). I am curious, however, if the map is accurate. My understanding is that New Center and the North End are divided by Woodward, meaning that their dividing line runs north-south, not east-west, as the map depicts. Please let me know if you know otherwise, or if you would consider modifying the map you created to reflect this. Thanks!
