I would like access to the Filemover right in order to quickly fix title mismatches between Commons and the English Wikipedia. I agree, but, in particular, I don't think what you suggest you would do is correct -- if a Commons file and a WP:EN file are identical, then the WP:EN file should be deleted, as WP:EN will then automatically look for the file here. Specifically, I was trying to fix two files that I uploaded from English Wikipedia to Commons, where Internet Explorer (I usually use Firefox, but could only use IE that moment) subtly changed the filename upon saving and I didn't notice since the file was uploaded. I need to keep the history tied between the deleted file on English Wikipedia (some of the files have en.wp-specific templates that need to be preserved) and the new file at Commons, and it would be far easier to fix the title at Commons rather than move the file at en.wp and then change all of the links to the new title. I was trying to gain access to fix these issues myself rather than bother other people with these minor issues. –Grondemar 23:53, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Aha -- I see. You want the deleted file name on WP:EN to match the new name on Commons -- that does make sense -- the addition of the word "deleted" makes all the difference. I'm afraid I still agree that you're light on Commons experience for a Filemover here. If {{tl|1=rename) doesn't get you quick results, you can always try a note on my talk page -- I'm usually on Commons on a daily basis.      Jim . . . . I am requesting the filemover right for my account, as I sometimes need to rename a file here. I am an admin on enwiki and spend the majority of my wiki time there, so my use of this right would be limited to a few times here and there within a year's time. I feel that I can be trusted with the tool, as admins on enwiki are automatically granted the tool. I've requested a rename twice within the past year (here and here). Thank you. Many of the images are misnamed, or have names which are meaningless, so I have been requesting that a number of them be renamed. This request is  declined as 250 edits is really not enough for now. Please use {{Rename}} for a while and re-apply later if you have enough experience. If one can apply for adminship with over 1000 edits, I think asking for 2000 edits for a filemover is a bit too much. Whats important is how much you have understood the policy and how you have displayed it. I was already granted filemover right but User:Trijnstel removed it because she thought I had renamed "files without following the policy". At first she removed my filemover right and then asked me for an explanation. I explained for her that I had renamed files according to the renaming policy, but she refused to give it back. This discussion shows you neglect the substantive argument about the galleries guidelines and only read what you want to read, ie some sysops wouldn't have suppressed your right.

Have you ever read the gallery guidelines? If so, you probably know that there was/is no arguments like "Please take a look at کرمانشاه where all descriptions are in English. This mix is, in my opinion, not helpful. Multiple galleries in different languages can happily co-exist to the same topic" so I was not aware of it, but when User:AFBorchert wrote this argument, I found it completely logical and I tried to follow his opinion in Iran and Hamid Karzai galleries (i.e. making them bilingual). If I "only had read what I wanted to read" as you say, I wouldn't make them bilingual at all.

Please consider the fact that moving galleries is completely irrelevant to the filemover right. Furthermore, I don't see any hostility or illogical reactions in the AN discussion or even this request on my part. If there is any, please let me know. Americophile 21:09, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

As I upload files to a wikipage I realize that the files are incorrectly named and therefore unusable (namin conventions do not allow spaces between words). Uploading new set of this time correctly named files proved unsuccesful as these files there is no distinct diference between these files. What I would like is:

- *deletion* of the files currently occupying space or - *renaming* these files. Example renaming "File - gif.gif" to "Filegif.gif" (i.e. removing dashe, removing space)

I'm a university professor running an ongoing project at the English Wikipedia with students to produce articles relating to Singapore constitutional and administrative law. However, I do upload content here from time to time for use in the project's articles, and it would be useful to be able to rename them when required. I'm surprised to see how my friend is wrongly portraying an issue: the discussion cited pertains to categorization - right or wrong - which is in each Commons user's domain. My categorization as "Biographies" was based on the description of the file "Biography of living persons". Since the category was disputed, I took the issue to User Problems Noticeboard. It was from here, the file was marked for deletion and later deleted. There is no dispute involved with renaming here - so the whole issue is needlessly overbloated and wrongly stated. The second case mentioned under [1] probably pertains to a rename request by a German lady - The original file name, as I remember, was in German and requested name was in English. I want to rename the files of the government gazettes I've uploaded. I want to choose a system of naming like it is used for example in Category:Deutsches Reichsgesetzblatt 1871. • I was the admin that removed the file mover rights from DragonflySixtyseven. The reason was that DragonflySixtyseven insisted on moving files to make the filenames more descriptive without following the established criteria on Commons:File renaming.

As I understand Sven Manguard then DragonflySixtyseven still does not agree when to move files with short file names. So what changed since February 2011? If DragonflySixtyseven on any time had posted on my talk page. "I'll promise to follow Commons:File renaming. Can I have my file mover right back?" Guess which user made me do it... (on a file that was deleted anyway). Yes you are right... ^ Also I did that once a year ago. DS will do it hundreds or thousands of times. He has the right to move files on en-wiki and he does not follow Wikipedia:File mover there so why should he do so here? (Not that Wikipedia and Commons is the same).

To closing admin/crat: DS has been on my back ever since I removed his file mover rights and I will waste no more time on this. I only have ~150 edits here as most of my activity happens at the English Wikipedia, but have encountered a few situations in the course of my recent contributions to Commons where it would have been helpful to be able to move (my own) uploads myself, rather than having to ask someone else to. I'm an admin over at en.wp, if that helps indicate my trustworthiness.
