Kazimier Lachnovič (request for revoking filemover rights)

[edit]

Hello, user Kazimier Lachnovič was recently blocked for "Long-term abuse" (see: HERE) by an administrator @A.Savin: and was previously strictly warned due to malicious trolling by another administrator @Yann: (who later also supported stricter sanctions for Kazimier Lachnovič, see the same AN discussion). Nevertheless, user Kazimier Lachnovič still has filemover rights in Wikimedia Commons and I believe that such privilege should be reserved only for users with unquestionable reputation as it allows access to quite sensitive actions (both administrators A.Savin and Yann supported that his filemover rights should be revoked, see the same AN discussion). Consequently, I request to remove filemover rights for user Kazimier Lachnovič as he certainly is not an exemplary user who follows Commons:Policies and guidelines. There even were cases when he was unable to participate in a discussion politely and aggressively called Lithuanians as rubbish (see: 1, 2, 3). So this user is untrustworthy and is a long-term violator of rules. -- Pofka (talk) 20:39, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have contributed around 36.000 edits on Commons since 2008, including uploads of some 5.000 photographs. On Commons, I am predominantly active in media concerning Hamburg. I mostly put in renaming requests for my own files, but occasionally also for files of other users when I spot a mistake or want to achieve consistent naming across categories. I speak English and German. I believe that I have a good understanding of the six valid reasons for renaming, and would remain active on Hamburg-related files. PS: I have sysop rights on the German language Wikipedia, if that is at all relevant. --Minderbinder (talk) 16:37, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm a solid wikimedian with over 10k edits and now Wikimedian in Residence, I would like to request the mover rights for my new professional account as well. Wikimédian in residence's rules encouraged to not mix personal and professional accounts to edit professional projects. I also wish to conserve the willful anonymity of my volunteer account, and would strongly prefer if my professional and volunteer accounts are not connected publicly, neither in their actions, nor on this request. I can provide my volunteer username via email to let you verify I do have the experience requirements for such userright request. Hugo en résidence (talk) 15:36, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Hugo en résidence, is there any specific reason for not making your volunteer username public? I guess operating multiple accounts is something necessary to be disclosed? ─ The Aafī (talk) 17:15, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There are WMF employees who have both a professional account and a volunteer account, and they have disclosed this on at the least, their meta userpages. I'd be very glad if you do this. I do not really get it that how does the disclosure mix your two accounts? What am I missing? ─ The Aafī (talk) 17:17, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@User:TheAafi hello, I just sent you an email to explain why I want the strict minimal public linking between my anonymous volunteer account and my non-anonymous residence account. It also proves that I, the person behind those two accounts, is already entrusted by the community with the file mover tools. Let me know by email if you need further explanations. I also suggested alternative paths if necessary. Hugo en résidence (talk) 10:13, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I made this request previously but was not pinged in the replies so had no idea that a discussion was being had and had no opportunity to answer Mdaniels5757's opposition. My denied requests for renaming from March and April cited by Mdaniels5757 were all made for the same reason and the wrong decision was made each time. I have requested moves of tons identically mistitled files (i.e. FirstLast2022.jpg) under criterion 2 in the past and had those requests granted (see, e.g., File:Jackson Holliday 2022.jpg, File:Christian Roa 2022.jpg, File:Tyler Callihan 2022.jpg and File:Paul DeJong 2021.jpg). The recent denials from March and April cited by the admins as grounds for my denial of moving rights were all done in error. (It's also worth noting that one of those recent denials, File:Whitey Herzog - 1983 - standing.jpg, actually was renamed and given a title nearly identical to the one I requested.) --Denniscabrams (talk) 18:22, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
For convenience, the old discussion was at Special:Permalink/751022702#Denniscabrams (Apologies for not pinging you earlier.). I remain opposed: in my opinion, the grants of renaming were done in error, not the declines. See COM:FRNOT #1, which is almost identical to this situation. —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 18:29, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ugh, forgot to ping again. @Denniscabrams. —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 18:31, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Mdaniels5757: Those files needed to be moved. People search for photos of individuals by entering 'Firstname Lastname' in the search bar. If a file is uploaded as "FirstnameLastnameYEAR.jpg," it wouldn't turn up in the search results. This renders the filename meaningless, satisfying criterion 2. An argument could also be made that it falls under criterion 6, "Non-controversial maintenance and bug fixes" for the same reason. --Denniscabrams (talk) 19:29, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I am processing the images in Category:Singapore, initially as a passing interest, but it seems that I am on a roll, processing dozens of images each day: recategorising, filing renaming requests, requesting for deletions, etc. There are a lot of images to be renamed (primarily ambiguous or meaningless names like DSC123.jpg) in the main category, and possibly also in the subcategories. I wish not to flood the request queue when I am dealing with these files. I have submitted dozens of file renaming requests, and most of them were approved. I have read and understood the contents of COM:RENAME, and the table of criteria has been being consulted rigorously before making file renaming requests. Thank you. To rename images I have uploaded; to change meaningless or ambiguous names of files I and others have uploaded related to the Smithsonian American Art Museum; to harmonize names for the set of images from the Smithsonian American Art Museum that multiple users have uploaded. Over the years, Wikimedia volunteers and Smithsonian employees have uploaded open access images from the Smithsonian American Art Museum collection to Commons. As such, naming conventions have differed and evolved. Most of the images from this museum are now uploaded by SI employees, and we've settled on a naming scheme, which I'd like to apply to images from this museum already uploaded to Commons. Further, I'm happy to relinquish these permissions after one year and reapply/request if needed. Thank you. Sonoet2 (talk) 15:23, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, one question. I see on the COM:RENAME, the first bullet under "Criteria to decline" notes "Files should NOT be renamed only because the new name looks a bit better." One of the three reasons I'd like permission to rename is "to harmonize names for a set of images" from the Smithsonian American Art Museum. This may result in very minor changes that may seem to only be because it looks a bit better, but is really done in context of the larger set of images. Just want to make sure those edits are fine. Sonoet2 (talk) 15:41, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Sonoet2: ✓ Granted for a year, you may request again after expiration if needed. With reply to your question above, If a set of files are already in harmonized manner and aren't meaningless/non-descriptive then they shouldn't be renamed just for better look, but if there is inconsistency, then I think it would be okay as long as it doesn't turn into less/non descriptive, but you might want to ask others via COM:VP, Commons talk:File renaming, IRC, etc... better careful than sorry. Thanks! -- CptViraj (talk) 08:58, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

For quite some time I ignored the possibility of requesting this right simply because I thought I did not really need it that much. However, I have noticed that quite often I request the renaming of some files in such a way that I believe it would be reasonable to have this right in order not to take up so much time from well-intentioned volunteers. I hereby declare, for the necessary purposes, that I have thoroughly read the file renaming guideline and that I will strictly adhere to it. It should furthermore be noted that, out of my nearly thousand file renaming requests, very few (around five, at most, I suppose) have been denied, for reasons that I now understand very well, so similar errors are unlikely to occur. I have made 34 rename requests at the time of writing, and all of the files I've requested have been renamed as a result, albeit with a couple of minor errors. I am familiar with the renaming rules, and if I received this right, would help in Category:Media requiring renaming as well. Although I am not satisfied with 1,000 requests for file renaming, I hope you give me proper permission. Thank you. 이강철 (talk) 06:46, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Support Trusted user, I've seen him around Korean projects often. Has good knowledge of Korean geography so I'm sure he'll do well sorting unidentified locations in Korea. Takipoint123 (💬) 01:09, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
I'm asking for the permission to move files. This will help me a lot, make moving files of VRT / patrol much easier. I also hope to use it to help with move requests of others, in Hebrew and in general.
I am aware of the policy guidelines and have read them carefully.
Thank you for taking the time to review this request, · מקף Hyphen · 21:59, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, my job here is closely linked to my job in the pt.WP. Due to this, I've been requesting a fair number of renaming in the last few months. Therefore, I believe being able to move files would be helpful to me and would take work load from other users. I've read the concerning policies, and understand how they work. Thank you. Kacamata! Greetings, I'm Matrix. I find quite a few misnamed files while going through Category:All media needing categories as of 2017, as well as when I'm patrolling new files. I'm also license reviewer. Therefore I'd like to request filemover. Cheers, —Matrix(!) {user - talk? - useless contributions} 16:05, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request file mover rights as I often find mis-identified aircraft images that need renaming. I frequently rename categories by moving them to an updated title to match the WP:EN article (e.g. when an aviation museum has changed its name) with no complaints so far!. Thank you. I need this right because I am planning multiple photoupload events associated with different theme like Commons:Wiki Loves Muziris 2019,Commons:Wiki Loves Eclipse 2019, Commons:Wiki Loves Onam etc. These campaigns are organized by me and Wikimedians of Kerala User Group. Usually we give training to the participants about how to name the file and how to upload but some time there might be some files without proper name. Also I am trying to build a statistics tool based on the category and file names. Thank you. Ranjithsiji (talk) 07:26, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
