- @Aavindraa: if the sculpture are works of sculptors who are not yet dead for more than 50 years (Mauritian posthumous copyright duration), or worse still living, then probably. The enumeration under Part IV of the copyright law does not contain a provision that states it is allowed to use representations (like images) of works seen in public spaces, without infringing the authors' copyrights. Oppose I do not accept that these requests are being made in good faith. The end result of your actions seems to be erasing the cultural heritage of nations who aren't in accordance with poorly defined FOP legalese. This is a stain on the ethos of Commons. Aavindraa (talk) 19:50, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Aavindraa: Mauritius is not an exception to the no FOP rule. The only way to change that fact is to change their laws. But Mauritius appears to be a former British territory (until 1968), and sadly they didn't include British freedom of panorama in their law. Perhaps they though commercial exploitations of images of their recent architecture and sculptures (by living or recently-deceased artists or architects) as harming the country's heritage and to the exclusive interests of their artists and architects. If that is the fact, then all these files must be deleted. Per Commons:Licensing, files on Commons must be freely-reusable even for commercial purposes, in accordance with free CC/PD licensing. Export to other image repository?
[edit]As C2revenge wrote above, these texts are important references, they are often the only written source of information about a local event or place. I totally understand that they can't be kept on Commons unless the text is blurred. Ideally, how about copying these pictures to a more lenient repository (such as Flickr or other) before deleting? That would prevent the loss of information, as these boards often fall apart or get removed to make place for urban development. This would also allow the pictures to be re-imported into Commons once copyright expires. Cheers! Syced (talk) 01:26, 29 June 2021 (UTC)
