- Nominator obviously is not concerned about copyright, but rather shocked to see this map of Vietnam+Laos+Camboja subsumed to a greater version of the former and under its flag design. - Guy, everybody with half a brain and basic geography skills knows this is not the map of Vietnam, but a coumpound of Vietnam+Laos+Cambodia, but so what? This is an illustration of the concept of a “Greater Vietnam”, a view that this country should in some way absorb these two neighbours. The fact that this map conveys neither the current political geography nor a serious claim by any relevant party or movement may be grounds to have this image deleted for irrelevancy (although that’s unlikely since Commons has developed a culture of lenience to this kind of fanciful imagery when it is not photographic or otherwise manipulated or mislieading), but your argumentation so far has been far from convincing.

- Strauss Group is a one of a big companies in Israel Ofra Strauss is the Chairwoman of Board. The company established by her father. So if you have letter from lower of Strauss Group that would be reasonable. Maybe, if you were maintain a proper relationship with fellow volunteers OTRS. Maybe, if you were maintain a proper relationship with your volunteers OTRS fellows, you could drop a question in their talk page instead of keeping your bad behavior after your mistake. In july I requested to Hanay that she would review her contributions on this point. Unfortunately she didn't. In the past months several messages about this specific mistake (not only made by Hanay) have passed the mailing list for OTRS volunteers. If I come across a mistake like this I will always inform the volunteer and if necessary check his/her contributions. Or would you argue that this copyright violation should remain at Wikimedia Commons, because nominator is supposed to have some kind of conflict with the uploader? There is no evidence or even explanation why Tom Lahat would no longer be the copyright holder. There is no permission from Tom Lahat in the ticket. - Keep There is no problem with this OTRS ticket. I think that Commons is in a big problem when administrator is using his admin permit to show to another user that dare to reverse his decision by asking for help in Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems. I am talking about Commons:Deletion requests/File:2012 07 05 Yael Abecassis.JPG that was delited by User:Yann. see also here.
- What happened is that Gil Messing Dir. External Communications & Government Relations Strauss Group sent a picture of File:Michael Strauss.jpg I saw it as opportunity and asked him for more pictures one of them was Ofra Strauss. If Jcb can read Hebrew like he claims, he can see that the pictures was sent in no. 6 item in the ticket. As I see it the only purpose of this deletion request is to punish me, not for the sake of Commons. I opened a new blog Hana Yariv's blog - Wikipedia Stories, The Fishes and Everything, thank you jcb for giving me the topic for my next post. The only one thing that I find in this deletion request that I found out that I forgot to add the Otrs ticket to Michael Strauss picture. - This is a clear case. The spoke person says (translated): "The rights are owned by Strauss company and are releases under cc-by-sa-3.0. The creator can be what EXIF says, but since Strauss hired him to take the photo it doesn't give him rights. matanya • talk 06:52, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

- The depicted person claims apparently to be the owner, but there is no evidence of that. Such evidence is necessary if we want to keep the document. - This is ridiculous. Do you expect to see the receipt from the photographer as well in the OTRS release mail? His tax refunding? The lawyer says he paid for it, he owns it. We have better things to do than open faulty deletion requests. I'm all for reviewing OTRS tickets, but not at all in favor of abusing the mechanism. Deleted - While I understand the motives behind uploading this image, I'm afraid it must be deleted. We do not accept media which is entirely promotional. I applaud your work, and I think it's a nicely designed book cover; but while the subject of your work (anti-violence campaigning) is within our project scope, the cover of a book about that subject that is not. Speedy Keep. It is still not a reason to delete. We very rarely delete images that have been on Commons more than a few weeks unless there is a good reason, even if they are not in use. This is a copyrighted public sculpture in the USA - which does not have Freedom of Panorama for artworks. If this is deleted there are two other very similar files in Category:Cupid's Span that should be too (File:Rincon Park and Cupid's Span.jpg and File:Rincon Park San Francisco 8286727742 o.jpg). I note that lawyers for the artist have successfully argued for the deletion of several other photos of his artworks[1] and equivalent images uploaded to Wikipedia of other sculptures by the same artist have consensus only for Fair Use. South Korean motages with non free content
[edit]The FOP in South Korea is limited only to non-commercial uses and is not compatible with COM:L. The following are photo montages containing components which are unfree, some obviously so as the parent file has now been deleted. I had hoped to rescue some of these by asking for the offending parts to be removed and replaced at Commons:Graphic_Lab/Photography_workshop#New_photo_montages_of_Seoul_needed but have had no takers. If these files can't be fixed then they must be deleted.
- The following were the first to be given a chance to be fixed, and have not, should go first

Hello. I am the creator of the montage on the Seoul page of the English Wikipedia File:Seoul montage 2013.jpg. I just found out that there seems to be a problem with it concerning copyright. Am I understanding correctly that the image of N Seoul Tower in the center is somehow in violation of copyright, even though I took the image myself? I am willing to replace that image with something else if necessary. But I am unclear as to how/why it infringes upon copyright. Any explanation would be appreciated. Thank you. - Comment@Mark Froelich. The thing is not your copyright of the photograph that's at issue, its the copyright for the structure, which belongs to the architect. It's not just this file that it affects, a fuller discussion of the issues at play is at Commons:Village_pump/Copyright#No_Commercial_reuse_FoP_in_South_Korea.2C_files_of_modern_buildings. Basically pictures of modern buildings in South Korea, will probably have to be considered off limits with regards to Commons. So it would be great if you can replace the N Seoul Tower image with something else, but that something else cannot be a modern building, we haven't really been able to come up with a clear year to apply to such cases, but as a, better to be safe then sorry, guideline any building for which the architect is still alive, or who hasn't been dead for at least 70 years, is probably off limits. Yes the current version is a derivative of the medieval version, but with enough originality to gain new copyright (similar to how Pride and Prejudice and Zombies gets new copyright even if it is a derivative Pride and Prejudice which is PD). For the case in hand we can simply compare one of the old version e.g.
to the nominated one and the previous version from 1922 File:Coat of arms of Stockholm.jpg (most likely also a copyvio) to see that there is plenty of room for originality when creating a new rendition of a coat of arms. - I doubt whether the reasoning is correct. The creative element in this building lies in the Vietnamees tradition, and is in the public domain, I asume. - What would you say about the two chair models in this court ruling? Photos of those two chair models were found to be infringing copyright. You can find pictures of them by searching for "LC2" and "LC4" on Google Images. In particular the LC2 seems to have very few artistic elements. Please delete these files, they are copyrighted. The first file is a scaled-up sprite of the 3-up moon power-up taken from Super Mario World. A copyrighted game which means it actualy isn't an own work. The second file is a cropped screenshot from a game called Shobon Action (also called "Syobon Action" and "Cat Mario"), A Japanese parody of the Mario games that deliberately uses cheap tricks to make the game difficult to complete. As far I know, Chiku (the person who made the game) is not Z19pghost (the person who uploaded the file) and did not authorize the upload. Because Chiku's website doesn't say anything about the game being open source, you should consider it copyrighted. The third and final file is a vectorized version of the logo of Super Mario World as appeared on the title screen. Despite the fact the page says it's ineligible for copyright, the design looks very unique and henceforth copyrightable. The font isn't plain looking like the Times New Roman font and seems to be a custom font that Nintendo would undoubtedly own the copyrights to. I know you use US copyright law here but you should also take Japanese copyright law into consideration when debating this as both the games where the files are taken were made in Japan. --109.78.230.71 01:00, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

This is important because the title screen contains most of the graphics from the cropped screenshot. - No need, I've deleted few of them. The significant difference is: theese are mostly original photos with EXIF info, while the deleted ones were low-resolution copies from other sites. My doubts concern File:Beihai station.jpg and File:Laibinbei station.jpg only. I suggest asking for COM:OTRS permission (with eg. original photos from camera) for theese two and keep the others. - As I understand they are 100% duplicates. Furthermore, it's the borders which is the main issue, those are not free images. Hence a lot of files were deleted - case in point, [3] (Lilic (talk) 22:25, 11 September 2014 (UTC)).
Deleted, these files were not duplicates. The colors were totally different and the .png had a legend, .gif had not. The border lines were in .gif narrower than in .png. Difficult decision and that's why nobody wanted to close the request. I choosed to delete, considering overall similarities between two maps and that the file is actually unsourced. - File:Papstbesuch Deutschland 2011 Olympiastadion.jpg This image I take was clearly permitted due the visit of the pope. Wheather it was taken inside or outside, at this special event, it was clearly allowed to take photos and to publish them in pubic domain. - Yes there is a copyright on the building, but the building is not the subject of the photo. (compare that to DE_URHG_§57) The photo clearly shows the event. That event with 61.000 people belongs to the interest of the public. So the photo is in the interest of the public and in that case it is clearly allowed to publish it. Also in the case of this event, as I said, the rights holder allowed to take photos inside. While it is true that for most of the photos (i.e. photos taken from inside of the stadium) that German FOP does not apply, many or even most of the pictures do not show copyright protected parts according to German UrhG (copyright law). Therefore, for every single photo has to be discussed individually whether the shown elements are protected. Maybe this is a problem when we mix up US and German law, but according to German law only I would keep most of the photos (I had a random look at a few and would keep them all). If you decide to delete them because the shown elements are protected under US law, please e-mail me the files that I can upload them locally on de.wp (my e-mail is *myusername*@wikipedia.de). It would be great if you could add any information (with sources) about this to COM:FOP#Germany or COM:TOO#Germany, as currently Commons is lacking information about TOO in German architecture. - It's more general and not at all easy for me to explain in English because there are many terms in German language that don't fit into English words as they are associated with the US copyright terms. However, the German copyright differentiates very resolutely between (protected) artwork on the one hand and trade (handwork) on the other. Especially when subjects have an intended use (such as a soccer stadium), many elements of this are already given in the imagination of such a thing. These elements are not copyrighted as long as they do not contain a very individual style. An often used example in literature is a chair: However a carpenter designs his chair, as long as the elements of this chair are not clearly above the average chair, it's no subject to copyright. Applied on soccer stadiums, this means that elements in the Olympiastadium you can find in many other stadiums as well cannot be copyrighted while individual elements can. A general view into the interior of the stadium shows many usual elements except of the very individual roof which I would assume might be copyrighted. Additionally, we have the De minimis rule that allows us to use photos that even depict parts of the roof as long as they don't make a central point of the photo. // To keep the long story short: This mass DR doesn't bring us forward. - Without any doubt, German FOP is not applicable for photos taken from the stadium's inside. As stated above, many of these photos don't contain protected parts that are not de minimis.
