Delete Both files are uploaded almost the same time. File:Geograph-2647432-by-Julian-P-Guffogg.jpg have better filename, source tag and it is also used in en.wikip. -- Meisam (talk) 09:45, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
- I've never uploaded a file to Wikimedia Commons before, and it appears I may have uploaded it incorrectly. Since then an editor (ukexpat) revised the data (or perhaps uploaded the image a second time?), and later an editor at the WikiHelpDesk added the category Canterbury Cathedral. However when I looked through the Canterbury Cathedral images just now, I couldn't find the image. I located it by searching for 'Memorial to Sir James Hales', which is how I found the duplicate files, with one marked for deletion. I'd like to learn how to upload a file properly, and the first step is being able to find where the file went after it was uploaded, which I don't know how to do. Thanks for any help with this. 17:49, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Recent work in France. In most countries, all paintings, sculpture, architecture, text, and other creative works have copyrights which last for 70 years after the death of the creator. An image of a work that is still under copyright is a derivative work, and infringes on the copyright so that we cannot usually keep the image on Commons. In some countries, there is a special exception to the copyright law which allows such images under certain circumstances. We call that exception freedom of panorama (FOP). Unfortunately there is no applicable FOP exception in this case. . Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 12:52, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Delete -- Not enough information here. Photographs in Iran are PD 30 years after publication. This was taken in 1957. If it was published any time before 1982, it is PD, but we do not know when it was published. If a Farsi reader can find a publication date on the source site, that might allow us to keep it, but as it stands now, we must delete it. . Jim . . . . NO use, we have the Gadaffi-era Libyan flag in SVG as other files. Fry1989 eh? 03:14, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hi everyone! I, personally, do not mind, but ONLY if the colour of the flag is EXACTLY the same as the colour of the roundel. Sure, you are aware of many and frequent changes users are making to the files of the flags, but nobody thinking about how it will look like in the articles about the Air forces and the aircraft insignia. Simply to balance this unwanted changes was created this file and many others. But, if you find out how to manage this problem, you are free to delete all unwanted / unused files. User talk:Kwasura

This file was initially tagged by Jaqen as Copyvio (copyvio) and the most recent rationale was: Obviously not a work by the uploader. Unfree logo.
Seems pretty simple. Might not meet COM:TOO. INeverCry 17:56, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
- I should have started an ordinary DR and not asked for a speedy deletion, I'm sorry. Anyway, I fear that in Italy the threshold of originality is quite low. There is nothing about Italy in the Commons help page, but I have just found a decision of the Court of Cassation (n. 7077 of July 5th, 1990) states that:
- "For the protection ... it is sufficient for the the requisite of creativity to subsist even in modest measure. An individuality of representation is sufficient. It is sufficient that the author has organised in a new way elements already in the common cultural heritage."
- I cannot find a picture of the work (that was held to be original enough), but in the decision it is described as a
- "set of coloured squared scattered on a piece of cloth ... arranged according to a trend of lines and formes that, combinad also with chromatic variations, determine an original figure".
- (I'm sorry for the bad translation but I find it quite difficult to translate Italian legalese to English.) --Jaqen (talk) 18:59, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

- I noticed the link to ru:Электронная сигарета, but I dont see the image displayed anywhere in the article. I would also point out that these images were all added to that article by the uploader back in early 2011 and atleast the two pack images were removed by other users. I wouldn't be completely against keeping the second image if the logo on the box was blurred. File:Ecignewgen.jpg is a ready logo-free alternative to the other 2 images of packs. INeverCry 17:27, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
- I think the file pointed to by INC is very useful. We are here to host images that assist other projects in the main. A picture of an ecig is very useful however we do not need to offer one with a logo.

Yes, it is art. A vision for a participative art project, that I would like to donate to the world as a creative common. Yes, it is a bit exposed, directly in the page for participative art, but I would like to keep it on wikimedia, as it is a creative common. How could I archive it on wikimedia, according to the rules?
At least, I can't understand, why the article "participative art" is deleted. That is nothing I imagined, but a concept in the world of art, that trancends the passive role of the spectator into an active role of a participant in the process of producing a piece of art. So it would be nice to have an article for that. Shure, a profound article needs a bit of research, which I did not do yet... what are the reasons for deleting that page?
The two other files:
could be deleted, no problem. Sorry that I didn't do that, I fought with this thumbnais, too. And I didn't knew how to delet it myself. But the circularcanvas.small.png image, I would like to keep online.
Thanks for an answer and the support of our vision, Jim.

Comment Hi Jorinde, first, I appreciate your efforts to express an interesting and worthwhile idea. The main question here is whether or not the image fits into the scope of this site: COM:SCOPE. I wonder if your project might be better served by hosting the file on a site like Flickr.com, which does not require files to meet specific standards? It is possible that you could express your ideas on another Wikimedia site, like maybe Wikibooks.org or Wikiversity.org, in the form of instructions on how to do this participative art project; if so, that would be a good reason to host the file here, as a supporting illustration to one of the Wikimedia projects. But without that, it is unclear to me how this is an educational file of use to our audience. (Please note, I am not an active contributor to wikibooks or wikiversity, and am not very familiar with their standards -- this seems like an idea worth exploring, but it's possible you will find resistance there as well due to their own standards for inclusion.) -Pete F (talk) 00:00, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
