- Comment The concern voided by @A1Cafel seems to be over the sculpture. The nearby station was finished in 1872. Yet he or she listed images where the sculpture is very small, like File:Gara de Nord.JPG amd File:Gara de Nord, Bucuresti -c.jpg Geo Swan (talk) 01:11, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- File:Gara de Nord.JPG looks de minimis to me (File:Gara de Nord, Bucuresti -c.jpg is definitely not), but I thought I remembered reading that Romania doesn't recognize the concept of de minimis. I don't see any mention of that phrase in Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Romania, so I think someone must have posted an excerpt from a court decision in another deletion request thread, but there's no way on Earth that I would find it. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:49, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

- It's a little small, but you should say why it doesn't look like the uploader's own work to you, keeping in mind that small size and insufficient or absent EXIF are not per se deletion reasons per COM:DR. I'm wondering whether it's just a grainy photo or whether it's a scan from a printed publication. If it is, that would be a deletion reason. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:47, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

- Keep. Under some circumstances a file can be summarily deleted at the request of the uploader (COM:CSD#G7), but this doesn't appear to be such a case. This file is currently in use, it falls within COM:SCOPE, and (as far as I can tell) we don't have a better photo of this subject. Marbletan (talk) 18:29, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

- I feel like everyone is ignoring the bigger issue, which is that this user's uploads are of small photos that lack good metadata, and they never say whether they actually shot them, when asked. It's true that small file + problematic exif is an insufficient reason to delete per Com:dr, but how about that plus an uploader who's active refusing to ever state whether their "own work" claims are accurate? Questionable whether this is COM:TOO when https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Minecraft_Logo-en.svg considers a simpler version of this same 3D logo, without the fractures and shading effect, to be copyrighted. Belbury (talk) 12:00, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- I don't know whether either of them are above COM:TOO US or not. Have there been rulings by U.S. courts on shadows in logos? If shadows are OK, both logos are OK; if not, neither is OK. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:55, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- It's more than just "shadows" - I'd point in particular to the use of the "creeper face" in the middle of the "A", which takes the logo outside the realm of shaded text. Omphalographer (talk) 23:10, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- I think that would just be considered a type of lettering, but I could be wrong. Can you point to some similar examples that U.S. courts or the U.S. Copyright Office found to be copyrighted? -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:59, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- The "creeper face" is a specific creative element from Minecraft; it's not a standard typographical form of the letter. I'm not aware of any specific case law but I don't think this is a clear PD-text situation. Omphalographer (talk) 03:02, 28 November 2024 (UTC)

- Weak keep, imo this is just text, not above COM:TOO. I'm not sure if US or Swedish coypright rules should be applied here, based on the fact that the logo was created by a Swedish company, presumably in Sweden. Dmartin969 (talk) 02:44, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hold it, I didn't realize this was a Swedish product. Since COM:TOO Sweden states that "From the court cases below it can be concluded that the threshold of originality in Sweden is significantly higher then the ditto in the United Kingdom even though it might be considered low compared to the one in the United States," that introduces a greater degree of doubt that this is PD, though I'm still unsure, considering the second example on that page. But the case of this copyright that was sustained suggests to me that this one is a no-go, so Delete. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:01, 28 November 2024 (UTC)

If it's deleted, anyway, I think that would be an outrageous and highly presumptuous usurpation of the independent editorial policies of Wikipedians and a fundamental violation of the entire point of the INUSE policy, but the closing admin, if they delete, will claim that inaccuracy somehow trumps that policy, which is not at all what we should be considering to overrule dozens of Wikipedias on. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:01, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

The symbol on the right is not assumed to be just something similar to a star but to five trapezoidal figures with different colors, arrangements and shapes. At this point it is difficult to determine the degree of simplicity and it could be reaching the threshold of originality. I opt for consultation. Taichi (talk) 15:22, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Keep I see that the symbol of a star (right side) is part of a geometric means it is totally ineligible for copyright, it is below the threshold of originality (google translator). AbchyZa22 (talk) 16:05, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

- @Ikan Kekek: Comment you right there’s no guidance about the COM:TOO Venezuela, but i see that the logo (right side) is a star (part of geometry shapes peer {{PD-shape}}) is not copyrighted, in Venezuela there are complex logos than this (peer admin Bedivere in this DR says:There are other Venezuelan logos much complex than this.). (google translator) AbchyZa22 (talk) 14:39, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- Can you point to any court decisions? The COM:Precautionary principle dictates that when Commons is ignorant or unclear about the law, files are deleted (hidden). Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:00, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- Delete. I put this logo right at TOO-US, so I do not need to go to TOO Venezuela. It is not the typical 5-pointed star. When I look at the 5 trapezoids, they suggest a man, and that man could be on an airport apron directing a pilot to steer the airplane a particular way (en:Aircraft marshalling). The man is also not a typical stick figure. Glrx (talk) 17:48, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Glrx:A man ,but trapezoid is a geometry (a geometry is not copyrighted)? AbchyZa22 (talk) 18:25, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- Simple geometric shapes (circles, lines, triangle, squares, pentagons, etc.) are not copyrightable. Simple combinations of geometric shapes are also not copyrightable. However, at some point a combination of simple shapes is copyrightable. For me, that is when the combination shows something original and interesting. It is not just a collection of trapezoids, but trapezoids that suggest both a star and a person. The person is also related to aviation. Glrx (talk) 18:41, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Glrx: Delete Ah you right ,a person it's a complex ,I changed to a deleted but I can upload to Wikimedia without a man so below too. (google translator) AbchyZa22 (talk) 18:53, 28 November 2024 (UTC)

The arrangement surrounding the letters is debatably simple, with irregular cuts and two color gradients. It is also unclear, as it is a logo for a country with little information about COM:TOO like Lebanon. Taichi (talk) 15:29, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

- @Taichi:Look COM:Lebanon (Lebanon is a part of state of France before the independence) (google translator) AbchyZa22 (talk) 16:25, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Keep. Looks to be below TOO-US. The logo is text with two trimmed ellipses. Ellipses have been used in logos before.[7] The ellipses do not suggest some other object such as a bird or airplane. Also seems to be below TOO-Lebanon because I do not see a personality aspect. Glrx (talk) 20:23, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- If Lebanese TOO is really the same as French TOO, this should probably be deleted, but is it really the case that the law of an independent country is colonial law by default? -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:07, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

- Delete not in scope. Iwaqarhashmi (talk) 17:44, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- I don't see a scope issue here. Advertising is not inherently out of scope, and a rural community advertising to get a doctor to move there seems to me to be historically interesting. The image might be a problem (though I don't know why we are presuming that the community in question did not clear the rights before licensing the ad; usually we assume government bodies got that right); if it is, we can certainly cover it with a Gaussian blur or a description of what it showed without significantly diminishing the educational/historic value of the file. Let me know if someone wants that done, and which approach (Gaussian blur or description) is preferred. This, of course, assumes the license came from the copyright-holder of the text in the ad, not the historical society that is reproducing it. - Jmabel ! talk 19:37, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

Several non-trivial logos claimed to be PD because of inegibility (File:AzPFL_logo.jpg), claims that files are released under CC without evidence (File:Isa Gambar (1).jpg), files supposed to be in PD because of age but undated (File:Pənahəli xan.jpg) or created long after the limit for copyright expiry (File:Səməd Vurğun (Pekin, 1955).jpg). In at least one case, the claim of authorship seems to be simply false (File:Cəmil Həsənli (21.09.2013).jpg).

Two drawings sourced to news sites that simply include the picture at the top of a story with no credit or discussion of it. The uploader says on their talk page that they believe these drawings to have been "taken around the 19th century", but I don't see a reason to dismiss the possibility that - where the author and original source are unknown - they are modern paintings in a particular style.

- Keep these came from the Flickr account of a local historical society. Unless we think there is a copyright issue, I'm inclined to keep such things. We never know who might be researching the place in question at some time in the future and find these useful. They are certainly at least as likely to be of interest to some future historian than our innumerable images of comparable WMF-related meetings and events. - Jmabel ! talk 18:55, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- Your comment is not aligned with Commons' scope. Commons is not a simple mirror of local community archives, so we don't have the same inclusion criteria. As for research, these images will continue to be available at the source (where researchers would go first anyway), but within the scope of Commons, images of totally non-notable persons at some minor local event have little to no value here (this is obviously subjective but precedents here on Commons have set the bar much higher than these people). --P 1 9 9 ✉ 14:29, 29 November 2024 (UTC)

- Keep I'm trying to understand why you think these are deletion reasons. This is a usable photo of an important person in his role as NASA Administrator, and while it's important that the NASA pin be visible, the details on it are de minimis.
