Thank You for the pictures on Guangdong Museum

[edit]

working on an small description of Guangdong Museum I found the many pictures you have made of the objects on display in this museum. It was a great joy for me to see, what is inside the museum, as during my short stay in Guangzhou I had no time to go inside. My fotos are mostly of objects on museums and of cultural buildings. It is great fun, in this way to be in contact with the culture of mankind. I wish you a lot of fun with your work. Greetings from Hamburg in Germany.--ArishG (talk) 09:09, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Guangfeng panorama.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-3.0 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Hello, Zhangzhugang!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

how was Danjiangkou_Reservoir.svg made?

Hello Doctoroftcm, one curious question: how was file:Danjiangkou_Reservoir.svg made? I just created a similar outline on OSM (ref: http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/relation/936544), then searched for the chinese name of the reservoir and found your svg file on commons... --katpatuka (talk) 16:11, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Thanks for uploading File:NATIONAL PARK OF CHINA.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:NATIONAL PARK OF CHINA.png) and the above demanded information in your request.

Category:Nanputuo temple has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

 1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
 2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
 3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

If you'd like to start editing relevant Wikipedia articles and share your knowledge with other people, please go to the Wikipedia Welcome page for more information, guidance, and help.

To make future contests even more successful than this year, we would like to invite you to share your experiences with us in a short survey. Please fill in this short survey in your own language, and help us learn what you liked and didn't like about Wiki Loves Monuments 2013.

Thanks for uploading File:Dali Chongsheng Si 2008.09.10 11-09-23.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

3 images are not Geranium umbelliforme

[edit]

The images you uploaded titled "Geranium umbelliforme - South China Botanical Garden 2013.11.02 14-17-11.jpg", and "Geranium umbelliforme - South China Botanical Garden 2013.11.02 14-17-27.jpg" do not show this species. "Geranium umbelliforme - South China Botanical Garden 2013.11.02 14-18-03.jpg", does show some Geranium leaves bottom right and (unsharp) a fruit and a flower. The plant in the middle is some species or cultivar of Gerbera. I suggest may want to rename these files and to change the descriptions. Inquiry of permission of re-using a figure in our book

[edit]

Dear Zhangzhugang,

This is Dr. Jia He. I'm sending this message to inquire your permission of re-using one of your photos as Figure 1.4(b) in our forthcoming book. The pohot is about Canton Tower, and the link to that photo is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Canton_Tower_2013.11.15_18-12-45.jpg

If you don't mind, could you please allow me to re-use this photo in our book of "Smart Civil Structures"? The source of this figure will be certainly cited in a proper way. Thanks very much for your kind help and support. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi, even if you can't be a finalist because your picture are not scientific enough if you live close to Hangzhou I can invite for the ceremony- conference of WSC2017 in China. I offer you the 2nd train ticket, so you can come in a day back and forth if each single travel is no more than 2 h I guess.--Alexmar983 (talk) 03:16, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Zigong Dinosaur Museum

[edit]

Yours are very nice pictures but due to the high number of them and the possibilities they will be one of the finalists I must be sure as soon as possible of their copyright status. Do you have the permission of Zigong Dinosaur Museum to publish them? I will ask some Chinese sysop juts to be 100% sure about the local laws. Sorry to bother you.--Alexmar983 (talk) 12:11, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, we could fix it. I have asked the sysops maybe you can write to the museum, maybe they are fine (because of the visibility they get). At least sending an email would be enough good faith to keep them. Of course if they are selected national finalists, i simply cannot give any prize to you. it's too risky. Sorry! So please if you want to win the national prize just upload some different images. Maybe you can't access good laboratory for a portrait or a picture of a instrument but for example a good image of an university building or campus is still fine.--Alexmar983 (talk) 12:20, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dear uploader of European Science Photo Competition 2015 and Wiki Science Competition 2017, we would like to remind you that Wiki Science Competition 2019 has started in the whole world. It is now completed in Russia (active in May), Ukraine and France (active during November), but it's still open in all the other countries.

If you want to take part where WSC2019 is still open, please consult this page. Only some national categories are associated to competitions with local prizes.

If you are an expert user, please consider that images uploaded within the deadline can be included in any case in their national category even if not uploaded with the main interface.

Please keep in mind that there is a new category this year, i.e. "nature and wildlife".

If you already took part in a country that has completed its upload phase, please consider improving the description in English of your files (click on the edit button), since such description is what the international jury will use to evaluate them. World finalists will be finalized after March 2020.

Sorry for bothering you and have a nice wiki.

Zhanjiang

[edit]

Hi! If you're still in China, is Zhanjiang convenient to get to? If so there's a museum that might make good photos for the Commons WhisperToMe (talk) 13:40, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File:Wuyuan Jiangwan 20120331-32.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
