Would you please....

[edit]

Would you please stop ignoring the fact that many of the items which you are moving from "X in New York" categories actually belong in "X in New York City" categories and not in "X in New York (state)" categories. The old "X in New York" categories are ambiguous, as "New York" could refer to either the state or the city, so they collected items that were relevant to both, but New York Ciiy has half the population of the state, and the majority of the notable buildings. Your moving everything in "X in New York" to "X in New York (state)" is just making work for other editors, work which you, as he instigator of the move, should be dealin weith yourself, instad of simply mechanically" categories moving all the contents of the "New York" categories to the "New York {state}" categories. Please do the right thing and separate the contents into those that should be in "New York (state)" and those that should be in "New York zcity"/ If you are unaware of the differences, then please stop making these changes. Thanks, Beyond My Ken (talk) 12:40, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

So, you're going to simply ignore this complaint and go ahead with what you were doing? Not very collegaial behavior. Beyond My Ken (talk) 02:07, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, I was just trying to help with the conversion. I appreciate the diligent work done by editors and definitely do not want to make extra work for others. I will consult the item's corresponding Wikipedia article to determine whether it belongs in the state or city category before performing any further moves. However, I have not made any edits since you posted your first comment; my last one was at approximately 04:49 1 March 2018 UTC, about 7 hours before your first post. Waz8 (talk) 03:48, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks for that, and I'm sorry if I got the timeline wrong. You usually don't need to check the Wikipedia articles, there's usually enough info on an image or category page to indicate whether it's in NYC or not. Just keep in mind that the NYC cats have a category structure which is equivalent to the NY state structure, just one step down. Beyond My Ken (talk) 06:49, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good -- I will place each item in either the state or equivalent city category. Waz8 (talk) 02:47, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much, I really appreciate your cooperation. Beyond My Ken (talk) 03:50, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion

[edit]
Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.JPG. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.JPG]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

@Explicit: I have no evidence of permission for this image, since I merely transferred it to Commons based on the Wikipedia uploader claiming to be the owner and publishing it under a suitable license. I am sorry for any inconvenience I may have caused and do not object to it being deleted. Waz8 (talk) 02:04, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
2022 Picture of the Year: Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo), Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) and Gadwall (Mareca strepera) in Nepal.

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2023 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2023) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.
